dve eva pramāṇe pratyakṣamanumānaṁ cetyuktam| tatra pratyakṣaṁ vyutpāditam|
samprati prāptāvasaramanumānaṁ vyutpādayitumāha- anumānaṁ dvidhetyā-
di| svārtham  yena svayaṁ pratyeti| parārtham yena yarān pratyāya-
yati||

nanu parārthasya lakṣaṇa pṛthagavācyameva| gamakalakṣaṇavidhānenaiva hi
pratipipādayiṣorvacanānukramo darśita eva anyathābhidhāne gamakadha-
rmādyotanāt| na hi ye yathā yamarthaṁ vidanti vacanajñāḥ te tatprati-
pādane punarupadeśāntaramapekṣante||

satyametat| tathāpi bālavyutpādanārtho'yamārambhaḥ| yathāvastu
pratipādyamānā api hyanyathā nigadanto dṛṣṭāḥ upayogino'pyavi-
nābhāvasyāvacanādanupayogināmapi ca sādhyopanayanigamanānāṁ prayo-
gāt||

trirūpāditi hetau pañcamī abhighātāc chabda iti yathā| atha va
lyablope yathā prāsādamāruhya prekṣate prāsādāt prekṣate| tathā trirūpaṁ
liṅgaṁ dṛṣṭvārthadarśanam- trirūpāl liṅgato'rthadṛgiti||

nanu trirūpagrahaṇamanarthakam atrirūpasyāliṅgatvāt| kiṁ ca lī-
no'rtho liṅgyate'neneti liṅgam| tac ca trairūpyaṁ vinā na sambhavati|
ato'pi gatārthatvāt trirūpāditi na vācyam||

naiṣa doṣaḥ| atrirūpamapi kecil liṅgamicchanti| atas tadvipra-
tipattinivṛttaye trirūpagrahaṇam||

tatrāhrīka āha-

anyathānupapannatvaṁ yasyāsau heturiṣyate|
ekalakṣaṇakaḥ so'rthaś caturlakṣaṇako na vā|

iti| anyatheti sādhyena vinetyarthaḥ| anupapannatvamaklṛptirasambhavaḥ|
nanu cāvinābhāvitvamevedaṁ syāt| netyahrīkaḥ| avinābhāvitvaṁ hi sā-
dhyād bahiriṣyate anyathānupapannatvaṁ tu dharmiṇyeva sādhya eveti|
ślokamapyāha-

vinā sādhyādadṛṣṭasya dṛṣṭānte hetuteṣyate|
parairmayā punardharmiṇyasambhūṣṇorvināmunā||

iti| etac caikameva rūpam| sati va trairūpye'nyathānupapannatvaṁ caturthaṁ
rūpameṣṭavyam| trairūpyamātre hi sa deśāntaragataḥ śyāmaḥ caitraputra-
tvādityasyāpi hetutvaṁ syād iti||

tatra yaduktam- avinābhāvitvaṁ hi paraiḥ sādhyādbahiriṣyata iti
eṣo'dhyāropaḥ| sarvopasaṁhāreṇa hi yatra yatra sādhanadharmaḥ tatra tatra
sādhyadharma ityaṣā vyāptiravinābhāvitvam| ataḥ sādhye'pi tadiṣyata
eva| yadi ca sādhyadharmiṇyeva yaḥ sādhyadharmeṇāvinābhāvī sa heturi-
ṣyate evaṁ sati yasya bahirapi sādhyenāvinābhāvas tasya hetutvaṁ na
syāt| vyabhicāryapi ca hetuḥ syāt tasyāpi dharmiṇyanyathānupapanna-
tvasya sambhavāt| tasmādayuktametat| ata evāsyāyuktatvān na catu-
rlakṣaṇo heturupapadyate||

yat punaruktam- trairūpyamātre hi sa syāmaḥ caitraputratvāditya-
syāpi hetutvaṁ syāditi tadayuktam| svabhāvakāryānupalambhaviśe-

ṣāṇāmeva hi trairūpyamupapadyate nānyeṣām| na cāyaṁ teṣvantarbhavati|
tata kutaḥ sa prasaṅgaḥ||

anyas tu dvirūpo heturiti darśayannāha-

ajñāto dharmiṇo dharmo dharme sanneva yatra hi|
jñāyate jñāpyate caiṣa heturvidhiniṣedhavān||

iti| ajñāto dharmo jijñāsito'nityatvādir dharmiṇaḥ śabdāderyatra
jñāyate kṛtakatvādau dharme| jñātatvaṁ sāmarthyalabhyam| sanneveti pramātrā
ghaṭādiṣu svayaṁ smaryate paro va smāryate parārthānumāne| sanneva nāsa-
nnityetau vidhiniṣedhau yasya staḥ sa vidhiniṣedhavānhetuḥ| etena
dharmidharmatvaṁ satsādhyadharmatvaṁ cetyetad dvairūpyamuktam||

atra sādhyadharmo yatra sanneva nāsanniti bruvatā tadevānvayavyatire-
kavattvamuktaṁ bhavati yasmādevaṁ sa tatra sanneva bhavati yadi tadabhāve
heturna bhavatyeva| tataś ca trairupyamevākārāntareṇoktamiti na dvirūpo
hetuḥ||

ṣaḍlakṣaṇo heturityaparaḥ| trīṇi caitāni- abādhitaviṣayatvaṁ viva-
kṣitaikasaṅkhyatvaṁ jñātatvaṁ ceti| tatrābādhitaviṣayatvaṁ tāvan na rūpānta-
ram bādhāvinābhāvayorvirodhāt| avinābhāvo hi hetoḥ sādhyadharme
satyeva bhāvaḥ| kathaṁ ca sa tallakṣaṇo dharmiṇi hetuḥ syāt na cātra
sādhyadharmo bhavet| ten na bādhāvinābhāvayoḥ sahabhāvaḥ| tena nābā-
dhitaviṣayatvaṁ rūpāntaram||

vyavacchedyābhāvād vivakṣitaikasaṅkhyatvamapi na lakṣaṇāntaratvena vā-
cyam| tad viruddhāvyabhicāriṇo hetutvaprasaṅganivṛttyarthamucyate| sva-
lakṣaṇayuktayoś ca hetvorekatra virodhinorupanipāte viruddhāvyabhi-
cāritvaṁ bhavati| na ca yathoktalakṣaṇānāṁ kāryasvabhāvānupalambhānāṁ
pratyanīko hetuḥ sambhavati| kathaṁ hi nāma ekaḥ svasādhyabhāva eva
bhāvāt tenāvyabhicārī tatraiva cānyo'pi tadbādhakasya bhāva eva
bhāvād viruddhas tena sambhavet| api ca sa heturyadi svabhāvata eva
taddharmabhāvī tadārthāntaropanipāte'pi kathamanyathā syāt| na hi

vastūnāṁ svabhāvānyathābhāvasya viruddhasvabhāvadvayasya ca sambhavaḥ|
atha svabhāvato'taddharmabhāvī evaṁ satyanyadāpi na sādhanaṁ kasyacit|
tasmāt svabhāvata eva svasādhyāvinābhāvino yathoktalakṣaṇasya
hetos tallakṣaṇaḥ pratiheturna sambhavatītyalakṣaṇamekasaṅkhyāvivakṣā|
viruddhāvyabhicāryavacanaprasaṅga iti cet vastubalapravṛttaṁ liṅgaṁ pratīṣṭa-
tvādadoṣaḥ| viṣayaś cāsya parastān nivedayiṣyate||

jñānaṁ punaraliṅgadharmaḥ| kathaṁ liṅgasya lakṣaṇaṁ syāt| kiṁrūpāl
liṅgādarthaḥ pratipattavya iti cintāyāṁ pratipatturavisaṁvādakasya rūpamu-
cyate yaddarśanādayaṁ sādhanāsādhane pravivecya tasyeṣṭārthasādhanapratyayāt
pravartate| tatra yadasya liṅgasyātmarūpam tal lakṣaṇam na pararūpa-
m pratipattijanmanyupayogamātrāt tallakṣaṇatve'tiprasaṅgāt| evaṁ hi
prameyapuruṣādīnāmapi tallakṣaṇatvaṁ syāt| na hi teṣvapyasatsu liṅgini

jñānaṁ bhavati| tasmāj jñānamapi na liṅgalakṣaṇameṣṭavyamiti sthitame-
tat- trirūpa eva heturiti||

pūrvavat phalamiti| yathā pratyakṣe dvidhā phalamuktaṁ viṣayasaṁvittiḥ
svasaṁvittiś ca tathehāpi pratyakṣavadavyatiriktamanumānasyādhigamā-
tmakaṁ phalamiti bruvatānumānamapyadhigamasvabhāvamityuktaṁ bhavati||

ataḥ pṛcchati- yadi dvayamapītyādi| arthas tu rūpaṁ cātulya-
metayoriti| tuśabdo'vadhāraṇārthaḥ- etadeva dvayamatulyam adhiga-
marūpatā tu tulyeti| nanu cādhigamas tayo rūpam| tac cedabhinnam
tat kimanyadrūpam yaducyate- rūpaṁ cātulyametayoriti| yat
tadviṣayasārūpyaṁ pramāṇaṁ vyavasthāpitam tadatulyamityuktam| tathā
hi- tat pratyakṣasya spaṣṭam aspaṣṭaṁ tvanumānasya||

viṣayo hītyādi| viṣayaśabdenātrālambanaṁ vivakṣitam na tu prā-
māṇyasya viṣayaḥ| anumānasyāpi hyavisaṁvādalakṣaṇaṁ prāmāṇyaṁ vastu-
viṣayameva| tasmādālambanabhedāt pramāṇayorviṣayabhedamāha| kathaṁ puna-
rālambanabhedaḥ| pratibhāsasya bhinnatvāt| na hi tāvekasya vilakṣaṇā-
vākārau yujyete| bhinna iti cābhinnapratiṣedha eva draṣṭavyaḥ na tu nā-

nāviṣayatā anumānavikalpasya nirviṣayatvāt| tac ca anumāna-
sya sammato yo viṣayaḥ tasya tattvato'pariniṣpannatvāt||

tadākāraviśeṣāc ceti| taditi pratyakṣānumānayorviṣayaḥ
parāmṛśyate| tasyākāraḥ svabhāvaḥ ākriyate paricchidyata iti
kṛtvā| tadākārasya viśeṣo bheda ityarthaḥ| viśeṣagrahaṇaṁ cāviśeṣapra-
tiṣedhapratipādanaparaṁ veditavyam| na tu nānāsvabhāvatānena pratipadyate
sāmānyasya vikalpitatvenāsattvāt| tadetat sūcitaṁ bhavati- yasmāt
pratyakṣasya bahirviṣayo'sti yatas tasya spaṣṭo viṣayapratibhāso
bhavati na tvanumānasya yas tu tasyāsphuṭo viṣayākāraḥ sa sva-
bījabalādeva jāyate tasmāt pratyakṣānumānayoryathoktaṁ svarūpaṁ bhinna-
miti| atha vā pratyakṣasya svalakṣaṇaṁ sākṣāt spaṣṭasvākārajanakaṁ
prameyaṁ svarūpeṇa anumānasya tu tadeva pāramparyeṇāsphuṭaviṣayā-
kārajanakaṁ pararūpeṇa prameyam| pratyakṣasyāpi pararūpeṇetyapare| tadevaṁ
yataḥ pratyakṣānumānayorbhinno viṣayaḥ atas tatsvabhāvaviśeṣāt
spaṣṭāspaṣṭaviṣayākāratayā svarūpamapi bhinnamiti||

atha kasmāditi| kiṁ kāraṇaṁ svārthaparārthabhedenānumānameva dvidhā
bhidyate na tu pratyakṣamityavadhāraṇena darśayati| etaduktaṁ bhavati-
svayaṁ pratyakṣīkṛtasyārthasya parāvabodhanāya yad vacanam tat parārthaṁ
pratyakṣaṁ dvitīyaṁ kasmān neṣyata iti||

yasmādityādi| anumānasya hi sāmānyaṁ viṣayaḥ| tatra ca yādṛ-
śamanumānamātmanaḥ tādṛśameva parasantāne vācā kriyata iti yuktaṁ
tasya dvaividhyam| pratyakṣasya tu svalakṣaṇaṁ viṣayaḥ| na ca tatra yādṛśa-
mātmanaḥ pratyakṣajñānam tādṛk śabdena santānāntare janayituṁ śa-
kyate tasyānirdeśyatvāt| anyathāndhādīnāmapi śabdāt tathāvigha-
meva sphuṭapratibhāsi jñānaṁ syāt| kasmāt tadanirdeśyamityāha-
grāhyabhedāditi| pratyakṣasya hyasādhāraṇaṁ grāhyam| na ca tac chakyate
nirdeṣṭum tasya pūrvamadṛṣṭatvāt| anumānasya tu tadviparītam| tasmāt
tasyaiva grāhyaṁ nirdeśyam na pratyakṣasya||

svātmavadityanenaitat sūcayati- pratyakṣānumānayoḥ svarūpaṁ
bhinnam| pratyātmavedyametat sarvasya| na cābhinnaviṣayatve svaviṣayā-
kāramanukurvatos tadupapadyate| tasmād yathā tayoḥ svarūpaṁ bhinnam

tathā viṣayabhedo'pi draṣṭavyaḥ| tato nānumānavat pratyakṣasya viṣayo
nirdeśya iti||

anye tvāhuḥ - vṛttabhaṅgabhayādatra yat paścād vaktavyam tat pūrvamu-
ktam| tasmādevamatha grantho vijñeyaḥ- kasmādanumānameva dvidhā bhi-
dyate na pratyakṣamiti pṛṣṭe kāraṇamāha- grāhyabhedādityādi| yadi
grāhyabhedādanumānaṁ dvighā bhidyate evaṁ sati pratyakṣamapi dvidhā bhidye-
tetyāha- svalakṣaṇamanirdeśyamiti| etaduktaṁ bhavati- īdṛśamidaṁ
pratyakṣānumānayorgrāhyamiṣyate yatraikaṁ nirdeśyamanyadanirdeśyamiti|
tasmādanumānameva dvidhā bhidyate yasya viṣayo vācā parasmai pratipā-
dayituṁ śakyate na tu pratyakṣamiti||

nanu cārthas tu rūpaṁ cātulyametayorityanena prāgeva pramāṇayorviṣa-
yabhedaḥ pratipāditas tadbhedāc ca svarūpabhedaḥ| tat kimidamupanya-
stam- bhinnaṁ hi pratyakṣānumānayoḥ svātmavad grāhyamityādi|
pūrvamanyārtho'yamartha uktaḥ idānīmanyārtha ityadoṣaḥ||

yadi cetyādinā svalakṣaṇasyānirdeśyatvaṁ pratipādayati| sa tenaiva
śabdenānumeyaḥ syāditi sa eva pratyakṣagrāhyo'rthas tataḥ śabdāt

pratīyetetyarthaḥ| na caivam| mā bhūdandhāderapi pratyakṣeṇaiva tasyārthasya
darśanamiti| paras tu jāḍyādimaṁ doṣamanavagacchan svayamabhyupagata-
pramāṇaikaviṣayatvasya dṛṣṭānuvidhāyitāṁ darśayanniṣṭamevaṁ me taditi nanu
cetyādinā sūcayati| sparśo hi pratyakṣasyārthaḥ| sa eva ca rūpeṇānu-
mīyata iti manyate| kadāciditi yadā sparśa indriyeṇa na spṛśyate
tadetyarthaḥ| na tu yathā pratyakṣamiti| pratyakṣaṁ hi bhedāntaravimarśavi-
vekena pratiṣṭhitenaiva rūpeṇa sparśaṁ paricchinatti anumānaṁ tu smārtā-
kṛṣṭapūrvānusandhānataḥ- so'yaṁ mayā pūrvamanena rūpeṇa saha prāgupala-
bdha iti sparśasāmānyamasparśavyāvṛttam| tad yatheti pūrvadṛṣṭānusa-
ndhāne dṛṣṭāntamāha| yathā rūpaṁ na pratyakṣato gṛhyata ityeva svalakṣaṇā-
kāreṇa liṅgaṁ bhavati viśeṣasyānanvayāt api tu sāmānyākāreṇaiva
pūrvadṛṣṭānusaṁhitena tathā na sparśaḥ pūrvapratyakṣeṇa gṛhīta ityeva svala-
kṣaṇato'numeyaḥ kiṁ tu sāmānyākāreṇaivānumānayogyeneti
darśayati||

kathaṁ dṛṣṭādivyavahāra iti| yadi yathānubhūtamācakṣate evaṁvyava-
hārā āryā yujyante| tvanmatena tu svalakṣaṇamupalabhyānyadeva kathayatāṁ
vyavahārā anāryāḥ syuḥ| tataś cābhyupetabādhā||

dṛṣṭamityādinaitat kathayati - darśanādikriyānimittā dṛṣṭādiśa-
bdāḥ| te ca sati svasminnimitte āryaiḥ prayujyante nāsatītyāryā
vyavahārā abhyupeyante na tu svalakṣaṇābhidhānāditi nābhyupetabādhe-
ti||

yat tarhītyādi| śāstravirodhamāha| nanu ca naiva cakṣurvijñānā-
nubhūta eva kṣaṇo manovijñānenānubhūyate| kiṁ tarhi| kṣaṇāntaramityuktaṁ
prāk| tat kathamevamuktam| naiṣa doṣaḥ| cakṣurvijñānānubhūtamevārtham
iti svalakṣaṇopalakṣaṇaparametat svalakṣaṇameveti yāvat| tulyajā-
tīyatvāc ca pūrvottarayoḥ kṣaṇayorabhedavivakṣayaivamabhihitaṁ syāt| atha
vānuśabdo'yaṁ sahārthe vartate bhūtaśabdo'pyutpanne| tataś ca cakṣurvi-
jñānena sahotpannamevārthaṁ vijānātītyayamatrārtha ityadoṣaḥ| yadi yat

tanmanovijñānānubhūtaṁ svalakṣaṇam tadanirdeśyam kathaṁ mano nīlaṁ
ca vijānāti nīlamiti cāviṣṭābhilāpaṁ tadeva| tatrāpīti śāstre|

ākārāntaravirdeśyanāmajñatvādityādi| svalakṣaṇākārādākā-
rāntaraṁ sāmānyākāraḥ| tena nirdeśyam na svalakṣaṇena| tasya nāma
nīlamitīyaṁ sañjñā| tac ca vijānāti na kevalaṁ svalakṣaṇam|
tasmād dvidhā śāstre mana iṣyate||

anīlavyudāseneti tamākārāntaraṁ darśayati| vyavahartṝṇāmabhiprā-
yānurodhādanīlavyudāsenetyuktam| te hi tattvādhyavasāyena vyavahara-
ntītyuktametat| anyathā parasparavyāhatametat syāt| tathā hi-
yadyākārāntareṇa mano nirdiśati na tarhi tena cakṣurvijñānānubhūtameva
nirdiṣṭaṁ bhavati| atha tadeva svalakṣaṇaṁ nirdiśati na nāmākārāntare-
ṇeti||

asāmānye'pīti| apiśabdāt sāmānye'pyanityatvādau||
vāyvādisvabhāva iti| ādiśabdenākāśādayo'pratyakṣā
gṛhyante| yathāheti| kaṇādaḥ| asya sūtrasya sambandhaḥ- kṣitija-

lānanavadagrahaṇāt sparśamātraṁ vāyuriti pareṇākte tatparihārāyāha-
adṛṣṭasyāpi liṅgataḥ samadhigamaṁ kariṣyāmaḥ| kiṁ punas tasya
liṅgamiti| taducyate- sparśaś ca| na ca dṛṣṭānāṁ sparśa ityadṛṣṭa-
liṅgo vāyuriti| sparśaś ca samupalabhyate śītoṣṇatvaviśeṣarahitaḥ|
caśabdāc chabdadhṛtikampāś ca| nirvṛkṣakṣupe deśe śukaśukāśabdaḥ
samupalabhyate tṛṇādināṁ ca dhṛtiḥ| teṣāṁ dravyāntareṇāsati pratibandhe
gurutvāt pātaḥ syāt| sthitiś ca viyati lakṣyate| latādīnāṁ ca
kampaḥ| na cāyaṁ dṛṣṭānāṁ kṣityādīnām| caśabdān na cādṛṣṭānāmā-
kāśādināma| ato dṛṣṭādṛṣṭeṣvadṛṣṭatvāt sparśaviśeṣo'dṛṣṭaḥ| so'sya
liṅgamityadṛṣṭaliṅgo vāyuḥ| na cāsau pūrvaṁ dṛṣṭaḥ tatprathamataḥ sparśavi-
śeṣeṇa grahaṇādityasāmānyaviṣayamanumānam||

na tatsāmānyasūcanāditi| tacchabdena sparśa eva sambadhyate
 na tu vāyuḥ||

ata evāha- na hi tad vāyvādiṣvityādi| sparśasya sāmā-
nyamāśritatvaṁ guṇotvena sūcyate| yo guṇaḥ sa āśritaḥ gandhavat|
guṇaśa ca sparśaḥ| svabhāvaḥ||

atha vā tacchabdena vāyureva sambadhyata iti darśayannāha- na vā
vāyvādisvabhāveṣvityādi| asyārthaḥ- yo guṇaḥ sa dravyāśritaḥ
gandhavat| guṇaś ca sparśa iti svabhāvaḥ| sparśasya guṇatvād dravyā-
śritatve'numite dravyatvamātramarthataḥ sidhyati| tad yathā cakṣurādīnāṁ
pārārthye siddhe paro'pyarthataḥ sidhyatītyabhiprāyaḥ||

pariśeṣāditi| pariśeṣasiddhiranumānameva liṅgajatvāditi manya-
te| yathāhetyādi| nāyaṁ sparśaḥ pṛthivyāḥ gandhādyasahacāritvāt|
nāptejasoḥ anuṣṇāśītatvāt| nāpyākāśādīnāmadṛṣṭānām| teṣāṁ
hi sparśavattvād ghaṭādīnāṁ tatra pratighātaḥ syāt| na manasaḥ anume-
yaguṇatvāt| aṇutvamekatvaṁ cāsyānumeyau guṇau| ayaṁ tu pratyakṣaḥ| na
ca nirāśrayo guṇaḥ samasti| tasmāt pariśeṣād vāyorevāyaṁ sparśa
ityeṣā pariśeṣasiddhiḥ||

na tatsattvāsiddheriti| tacchabdena vāyuḥ sambadhyate| yasmād-
nyeṣāṁ yasyāsambhavaḥ tatra siddhasattāke tasyāstitvaṁ sambhāvyate|
yasya tu sattvamevāsiddham kathaṁ tatra pariśeṣāt so'stīti sambhā-
vyate| na hi- yadānyena tatra sannihitena puruṣeṇedaṁ kāryaṁ na kṛtamiti
sambhāvyate tadā vandhyāsutena pariśeṣāt kṛtametaditi yuktaṁ sambhā-
vayitum| teṣveva tu kenedaṁ kṛtamiti saṁśayo bhavati||

pratiṣedhatulyatvāc ceti| siddhe'pi tasya sattve pratiṣedhasya tu-
lyatvān na yuktamanumānam| yathaivāyaṁ sparśaḥ pṛthivyādiṣu na dṛṣṭacara
iti teṣāṁ na bhavati tathā vāyāvapi prāṅna dṛṣṭa iti tasyāpi mā bhūt|
kathaṁ tarhi vāyoḥ pariśeṣasiddhirityāha- siddhe hītyādi| yathotpa-
ttimatāṁ ghaṭādīnāṁ sattvaṁ siddham tathā yadi vāyvādīnāṁ jijñāsitā-
nāṁ sattvaṁ siddhaṁ bhavati evaṁ sati hetoḥ siddhatvaṁ labhyate nānyathā|
pratiṣedhāsambhave citi| siddhe'pi teṣāṁ sattve yadi sa dharmaḥ pramāṇena
bādhyate'gnāviva śaityam evamapyasiddha eva hetuḥ syāt viparyayāt
tu siddha ityevaṁ yathā hetoḥ siddhatvaṁ janyate tathā darśitam| guṇavi-
śeṣasambandhāditi| guṇaviśeṣo dharmaviśeṣo hetutvenābhimataḥ| tasya

ṣayatvaṁ niṣiddham| viśeṣagrahaṇaṁ tu pṛthivyādidravyanirāsārtham| tatrāyaṁ
prayogaḥ- yo yataḥ siddhasattākādanyeṣāṁ na sambhāvyate vastudharmas
tatra ca pramāṇenābādhitaḥ sa tasya bhavati| tad yathotpattimadbhyaḥ
siddhasattākebhyo'nyeṣāmasambhāvyamānamanityatvaṁ vastudharmas tatra pra-
māṇenābādhitaṁ bhavati| vāyoḥ siddhasattākādanyeṣāṁ na sambhāvya-
te'nuṣṇāśītasparśo vastudharmas tatra ca pramāṇenābādhita iti sva-
bhāvaḥ| evaṁ sparśasya pariśeṣād vāyusambandhitve siddhe vāyuḥ kvacid
deśaviśeṣe kālaviśeṣe vā sidhyati| tvanmatena tveṣāṁ pariśeṣasiddhirna
bhavatīti darśayannāha- sattvaṁ tvasiddhamityādi| yasmāt sattvama-
siddhaṁ tulyaś ca pṛthivyādibhiḥ pratiṣedhaḥ tasmādguṇaviśeṣābhā-
vaḥ trairūpyavato dharmasyābhāva ityarthaḥ| tato guṇaviśeṣābhāvāt tatra

yukta eva pratiṣedhaḥ| na yuktaḥ dṛśyatatsvabhāvamātrāpratiṣedhāt|
pṛthivyādisāmānyaṁ gṛhītvā bhavān pratiṣedhamāha| tatra ca tūlopalapa-
llavādiṣu tadbhāve'pi sparśabhedadarśanāt kvacid viśeṣasyāpi
sambhavāc chaṅkayā bhāvyamiti sarvatrādarśanamātreṇāyuktaḥ pratiṣedhaḥ||

adṛṣṭebhyo'pi na yukta iti darśannāha- na hyadṛṣṭebhya ityādi|
hiśabdaḥ samuccaya'vadhāraṇe vā| amurtimatāmanabhighātāditi|
abhighātasya vāyaṁ pratiṣedhaḥ syāt tadviparītasya vā vastuno vidhiḥ|
yadi pratiṣedhaḥ abhighātasparśaviśeṣayoḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvo vyāpya-
vyāpakabhāvo vā vācyaḥ yato hetuvyāpakāveva nivartamānau svaprati-
baddhe kāryavyāpye nivartayataḥ anyathātiprasaṅgāt| kāryakāraṇavyā-
pyavyāpakabhāvau ca na sidhyataḥ vināpyabhighātena sparśaviśeṣasya
bhāvādarthāntaratvāc ca| athāmūrtimatāmanabhighātādityanenānabhi-

gamyate api tu vyatirekādapi| sa ceha nāsti nityatvāt sarvagata-
tvāc ca vyomādināṁ tadabhāve tadabhāvāsambhavāt| tadevamanabhighātā-
khyamākāśādisambandhi vastveva na sidhyati||

kutaḥ punas tasya sparśaviśeṣeṇa virodhaḥ| tathā hi- ātapādiṣu
ghaṭādināmanabhighāto'sti| atha ca te sparśavantaḥ| tasmān na tataḥ
pratiṣedhaḥ sidhyati||

guṇānumeyatvāc ceti| tatpuruṣo'yam| manasi ca guṇopajani-
tavyatirekanibandhanā ṣaṣṭhī nānumeyāpekṣā| manaso guṇānāmanumeya-
tvāditi vākyārthaḥ| guṇasya guṇāpekṣāyā nityatvāt  sāmarthyābhāvado-
ṣo'pi nāsti| ayamapyahetuḥ avirodhāt| tathā hi- yathātmano

naiṣa doṣaḥ| dṛṣṭeṣu tāvat sparśasāmānyaṁ sambhavadviśeṣaṁ dṛṣṭam|
adṛṣṭeṣu tu tasyāpi darśanaṁ nāsti| yo yatra dṛṣṭasāmānyaḥ sa tatra
sambhavati| yathāmalakeṣu madhuro rasaḥ| dṛṣṭasāmānyaś ca dṛṣṭeṣu
sparśaviśeṣaḥ| atha vā yo yatra dṛṣṭaḥ sa tatra sambhavadviśeṣaḥ|
yathāmalakeṣu rasaḥ| dṛṣṭaś ca sparśo dṛṣṭeṣviti svabhāvau| ubhayatra
cābādhake satīti viśeṣaṇaṁ draṣṭavyam| vāyvādau tu sadvyavahāra-
pratiṣedhāyānupalambho vācyaḥ| yadyevaṁ niścayena bhavitavyam- atrai-
vāyaṁ sambhavatīti| saṁśayas tu dṛṣṭaḥ| tasmānnāyaṁ dṛṣṭeṣu sambhavatī-
tyata āha- teṣāṁ cetyādi| anekatvāt saṁśayaḥ na tu tatrāsambha-

tairapi vāyorānumānikatvaṁ nirastamiti darśayannāha- āptasañjñā-
vidhānenetyādi| na vāyorānumānikatvamityatrādhyāhāryam| dravyasā-
mānyānumāne satīti| sparśena guṇena dravyāśritenāsti kimapi

dravyam yadayamāśrita iti dravyamātrānumānam  tat parityajya|
āptasañjñāprāmāṇyāditi| yasmāt kṣīṇadoṣairnavaiva dravyasañjñā

vāyusañjñaivāvaśiṣyate na cānyad dravyamasti daśamam tasmād
yasyāyaṁ sparśaḥ sa vāyurityevaṁ pṛthivyādibhyo'nyasya daśamāder dra-
vyasya pṛthivyādeś cānyasya pratiṣedhena vāyusattvamavagacchati||

na bhedasyāpi sambhavāditi| śābdasya pramāṇāntaratvanirākara-
ṇāya pramāṇāntaravādī tāvaduttaraṁ dāyikaḥ svayaṁ tūttaratra dāsyati|
prasiddhivaśeneti| sapakṣavipakṣayoḥ sadasattve śrotuḥ siddhe iti dṛṣṭā-
ntānabhidhānam| dṛṣṭāntagrahaṇamavayavopalakṣaṇārtham avayavānāmanu-
padeśāditi yāvat| tadetaduktaṁ bhavati- yadanupadiṣṭāvayavam
tadanumānād bhinnam pratyakṣavat| tathā ca śābdamiti svabhāvaḥ||

evamapīti| vyabhicāramāha| dṛṣṭāntasyaikasyeti| śeṣāvayavāpe-
kṣayā dṛṣṭāntasyaikatvam na tu dṛṣṭāntāpekṣayā| tataś cāyamarthaḥ-
yadṝṣṭāntasyaivānabhidhānamiti| dvayorveti| vāśabdaś cārthe vartamāno-
'nuktasamuccayaṁ karoti trayāṇāṁ caturṇāṁ pañcānāṁ cetyarthaḥ| tena

pratyāyayati na tvevaṁ dhūmādayaḥ| na hi dhūmādagniṁ pratiyan pratyāyaya-
nvā dhūmarūpeṇa pratyeti pratyāyayati vā| kathamarthe'numānamiti|
arthasyānekarūpatvāt| tatra kiṁ svarūpeṇa so'rtho gamyata uta sāmā-
nyarūpeṇa| sarvathaivānupapattiṁ manyate| tathā hi- yadi vṛkṣādayaḥ
śabdāḥ sattvādibhiḥ sāmānyākārairvṛkṣādikamarthaṁ pratipādayeyuḥ
sarvaśabdānāmekārthatā prasajyeta sāmānyākārāṇāmanekārthasādhā-
raṇatvāt| atha viśeṣarūpeṇa tadayuktam asādhāraṇasya rūpasya
pratipādayitumaśakyatvāditi sarvathā śabdārthatvābhāvaḥ| vṛkṣaśabdābhi-
dheyo'nyo'rthe na bhavatīti| yathaiva tava śabdārtho'nyāpoḍhaḥ sāmā-

bdārtho yaḥ sa śabdāntarasyārtho na bhavati| paryāyaśabdānāmekārthatve-
nānanyatvamevetyabhiprāyaḥ| atrāpi vṛkṣaśabdārthasya śabdāntarānabhidhe-
yatāṁ darśayatā śabdāntarārthavyāvṛttyupalakṣitaṁ vṛkṣatvamātraṁ vṛkṣaśabda-
syārtha ityuktaṁ bhavatīti sa evārthaḥ||

nanu ca dravyaśabdenāpi śākhādimānarthaḥ pratyāyyate| na cāsau
tadrūpaḥ| tataś cāsārupye'pyabhidheyatvadarśanān na śabdasārūpyeṇā-
rthapratyāyanamityata āha- yadyapītyādi| apiśabdena dravyaśabdo
dravyabhedānāṁ vyabhicārādavācaka eva| abhyupetya tūttaramucyata ityartha-
māviṣkaroti| rūpāntaramākārāntaram tasyaiva vastunaḥ kaścid
bhāgaḥ| tena ca saha dravyaśabdasya sārupyamastyevetyabhiprāyaḥ| tat

nāpi| tathā hi- sāmānādhikaraṇyaṁ dṛśyate- dravyaṁ vṛkṣa iti| na hi
bhinnārthayos tadupapadyate| na ca tena saha tasya sārūpyamiṣyate| tataḥ
sa eva doṣaḥ asārūpye'pi śabdārthatvadarśanāt| nābhidhānasya sā-
rūpyeṇārthābhidhānamityabhiprāyaḥ||

arthāt na śabdāditi| vṛkṣaśabdārthādevādravyanivṛttyavinābhā-
vinaḥ sā pratīyate| mūḍhas tu śabdādeva gamyata iti manyate| sāmā-
nādhikaraṇyaṁ tu viśeṣasahitasya viśeṣe vartamānatvāt| na tu vṛkṣa-
śabdenādravyanivṛttirabhidhīyate| yadi vṛkṣādipadānyevetyādi| suba-
ntānyeva padāni yadi śabdanibandhane pramāṇa ucyeran na syād
doṣaḥ| tathā hi- teṣāṁ pariniṣpannarūpo'rtha idaṁ taditi pratyavamarśa-
yogyo buddhau sanniviśata iti tena sahābhedopacāraḥ sambhavati
śabdasya| na tu nāmapadānyeva pariniṣpannārthābhidhāyīnyucyante| kiṁ

hītasya buddyā śakyo'bhedopacāraḥ kartum| nāpi pariniṣpannarūpaḥ

yeṣāṁ ca vākyameva śabda iti| tenārthasya śabdanāt| yadi vākya-
meva śabdaḥ padānāmupādānaṁ kimarthamityāha- tadadhigamopāyaś
cetyādi| tatsamudāyātmakatvāt yathā varṇāḥ padānāmiti manyate|
teṣāṁ nāstītyādi| vākyārtho hi bāhyo vā syāt sādhyasādhanasamba-
ndhātmā sādhanaśaktiniveśāanugṛhītā niravayavā kriyā vā ānta-
ro va pratibhālakṣaṇaḥ||

trayamapi caitadasattvabhūtamidaṁ taditi pratyavamarśātikrāntam| na ca
tathābhūtenārthena so'yamityabhedopacāraḥ śakyaḥ kartumiti||

viśeṣaleśamiti| dṛṣṭāntānabhidhānaṁ śabdena cābhedopacāro viśe-
ṣaleśaḥ||

bdaminirmuktaṁ liṅgamabhisandhāyeti| śabdenāgamākhyena tyaktametal
liṅgaṁ sparśākhyam| tannirapekṣa eva sa yasmād vāyoḥ sattāṁ
sādhayati| tadevaṁ tvadabhyupagataśāstravaśādakiñcitkaraṁ liṅgamabhipretya
tajjamanumānaṁ mayedamasvalakṣaṇaviṣayamuktam na punaḥ svayamāgami-
katvaṁ vāyvādīnāmicchatetyacodyam| evaṁ tarhi śābdamapi yathā svala-
kṣaṇaviṣayaṁ na bhavati pratipādyatāmityataḥ pratipādayitumāha- śābda-
mapi tvityādi| sambandhābhāva iti saṅketakāle| śabdārthasambandhā-

kalpamātramiti| na hi svargādiśabdāḥ svargādīnāṁ saṅketakāle'nya-
dā vā svalakṣaṇaṁ buddhāvarpayanti anatīndriyatvaprasaṅgāt| kevalaṁ
tatpratipādanābhiprāyaiḥ prayuktāḥ śrotaryapratibhāsamānatatsvabhāvamartha-
bimbamarpayantyasti kaścit surādhivāsaviśeṣa ityevamādikam| na
caivaṁ svalakṣaṇaṁ pratipannaṁ bhavati pratipāditaṁ vā svargādiśravaṇe tada-

śabdānāṁ vivakṣālakṣaṇaṁ yadarthamātraṁ tadvacanādevānumānatvam na tu bā-
hyasyārthasyābhidhānāt tathāptaprayuktānāmapi syādityata āha- na
hītyādi| evaṁ manyate- nāptavacaso vivakṣāmātre prāmāṇyameṣṭavyam
api tu bāhye'pyarthe| anyathā kas tasyānāptavacanād viśeṣaḥ
syāt| tasmānnāptaprayuktaiḥ svargādiśabdairarthamātramucyate| kiṁ tarhi|
laukikaśabdāsādhāraṇo bāhyo'pyartha iti||

na svalakṣaṇavacanādāgamānāmanumānatvam| kiṁ tarhi| tathāvidham
arthavikalpamātramupajanayatāṁ sāmānyākāreṇārthaprakāśanāt tatra cā-

ca| tat sati pravartitavye varamevaṁ pravṛttiriti| ataḥ parīkṣayā
prāmāṇyamāha| tatra puruṣārthasya śakyasya ca tadupāyasya yat pratipā-
danasamartham tac chāstraṁ parīkṣārhamiti tadeva parīkṣyeta anyatrāva-
dhānasyaivāyuktatvāt| tad yadi na visaṁvādabhāgbhavati pravartamānaḥ

atha vānyathāptavacanasyāvisaṁvādād anumānatvamucyate- heyo-
pādeyatadupāyānāṁ tadupadiṣṭānāmavaiparītyamavisaṁvādaḥ| tathāsya puru-
ṣārthopayogino'nuṣṭhānārhasyāvisaṁvādād viṣayāntare'pi tathātvopaga-
mo na vipralambhāya anuparodhān niṣprayojanavitathābhidhānavaiphalyāc
ca vaktuḥ||

tadetadagatyobhayathāpyanumānatvamāgamasyopavarṇitam- varamāgamāt
pravṛttāvevaṁ pravṛttīriti| na khalvevamanumānamanapāyam anāntarīya-

bdaś cātra liṅge vartate anumīyate'neneti kṛtvānumitikāraṇatvād
vā| avisaṁvādaḥ punarāptavacaso'rthakāryatvāt| tat punaḥ pratipattura-
bhiprāyānurodhāt na tu vastuvaśāt||

tathā hyāhetyanena svamataṁ śāstrāntareṇa saṁsyandayati| āptāḥ
pratyakṣataḥ svargādīnāṁ svabhāvaṁ gṛhītvā sañjñāṁ praṇayanti| upalakṣaṇa-
mātraṁ ca sañjñākarma veditavyam| sarvameva hi te'rthadarśanapūrvakeveva
vyāharanti| anyathāptā eva na syuḥ| tasmāt teṣāṁ sarvameva vaco
'visaṁvādi| ataś cānumānamiti||

anayā diśeti| pradhānādibhiradṛṣṭasambandhatvāt talliṅgānāmāga-
mikā eva pradhānādaya iti pūrvānusāreṇa vācyam||

anumeye'tha tattulya iti| athaśabdaḥ samuccayārthaḥ tattulye ce-
tyarthaḥ| upalakṣaṇaṁ cānvayasya tattulye saddhāvo veditavyaḥ| yathā
kākād dadhi rakṣyatāmityatra kākaḥ sarvasya śvāderupaghātakasya|
etaduktaṁ bhavati- anvayaś ca dvitīyaṁ rūpamiti| evaṁ ca śrāvaṇatva-
syāpyanityatve hetos trairūpyaṁ pratipāditaṁ bhavati na tvanyathā| na hi
tasya tattulye saddhāvo'sti| anvayas tu vidyate| anvayo hi nāma
liṅge liṅgino bhāva eva| sa cāsti śrāvaṇatvasya| tathā hi- yatra
śrāvaṇatvam tatrānityatvaṁ bhavatyeva| anyathā śrāvaṇatvameva nopapadyata
iti pratipādayiṣyāmaḥ||

nāstitāsatītyatrāsacchabdena na kevalaṁ tattulyābhāva ucyate
api tu tato'nyas tadviruddhaś ca tadākāravivekāditi veditavyam|
vyatirekopalakṣaṇaṁ vāsati nāstitvaṁ draṣṭavyam| vyatirekaś ca tṛtīyaṁ
rūpamiti vākyārthaḥ|

iha kevalayordharmadharmiṇoḥ siddhatvādanumeyatvaṁ nopapadyate| samudā-
yo'pi yāvaddharmo na sidhyati tāvan na sambhavatyeva| na hyasannivi-
ṣṭena buddhau dharmaṇa viśiṣṭo dharmī yujyate| siddhe tu dharmiṇi paścāt
samudāyo jāyate| tadā cāsya sādhyatvaṁ nivartate siddhatvāt| tasmā-
danumeye hetoḥ sattvaṁ na sambhavatyeveti kasyacic codyamāśaṅkyāha-
anumeyo hītyādi| atra yadyapi dharmaśabdaḥ sāmānyavācī tathāpi
sādhanādhikārād yadarthaṁ sādhanamanviṣyate pratyāsattes tatraiva vartate|
kaḥ punarasau| jijñāsito viśeṣalakṣaṇo dharmaḥ| na hyajijñāsite
dharmiṇo dharme kaścit prakṣāvān sādhanaṁ pratyāhriyate| tasmāt siddhisa-
ttāke dharmiṇi yatrākṛṣṭaṁ sādhanam sa eva jijñāsito dharmo dharmaśa-
bdena pratyāyyate| tena viśiṣṭo'rthāntarād vyavacchinna ityarthaḥ| tata-
ś cāyamevārtho bhavati- jijñāsitaviśeṣo dharmī iti| tathā hi-
yo yena jijñāsitena viśiṣṭo bhavati tasyāsau jijñāsito viśeṣo
bhavati| samudāyaḥ sādhya ityapi vacanaṁ jijñāsitadharmāpekṣayaiva
veditavyam||

uttarakālasiddhibhājā dharmeṇa pratinirdiśyate dharmaviśiṣṭo
dharmīti| na tu liṅgadarśanakāle dharmaviśiṣṭatvamasti asaṁviditatvā-
ddharmasyetyapare| jñāpakasya hetoradhikārāj jñānamarthākṣiptamiti
niścityāha- tatra darśanamityādi| tatretyanumeye| pratyakṣata iti
dhūmādeḥ| sadhūmaṁ hi pradeśamarthāntaraviviktarūpamasādhāraṇātmanā
dṛṣṭavataḥ pratyakṣeṇa tadbalenaiva yathādṛṣṭabhedaviṣayaṁ niścitaṁ sa evāyamiti
smārtaṁ liṅgajñānamuttarakālamutpadyate| na ca tat pramāṇam anadhi-
gatārthakriyāyogyavastvanadhigamāt| ādyameva tu pramāṇam ato
viparyayāt etallakṣaṇatvāt pramāṇasya| kuta etat| vastvadhiṣṭhānatvāt
pramāṇavyavasthāyāḥ| etadapi kutaḥ| arthakriyāyogyaviṣayatvāda-
rthipravṛtteḥ| etena dharmidharmādivikalpasyāprāmāṇyaṁ veditavyam| tataś
ca ye codayanti- liṅgādijñānasya pratyakṣānumānānantarbhāvāt
pramāṇāntaratvaṁ prāpnotīti te jāḍyamevātmanaḥ khyāpayanti||

anumānato veti kṛtakatvādeḥ kādācitkatvādinā liṅgenānumī-
yamānatvāt| uttarakālamiti pratyekamabhisambadhyate- pratyakṣata
uttarakālamanumānato vottarakālamiti| anumānaśabdaś cātra li-
ṅgajñāne vartate| yathoktam- tadetat sākṣāt pāramparyeṇa vānumitikā-

raṇatvādubhayamapyanumānaṁ karaṇaṁ kārakaṁ kṛtveti| dharmasya sāmānyarū-
peṇeti| sāmānyarūpagrahaṇamasādhāraṇarūpanirāsārtham tenānumā-
nāsambhavāt| na ca tat pratyakṣādipṛṣṭhabhāvinā viṣayīkartuṁ śakyate
jñānena tasya savikalpakatvād vikalpānāṁ ca sāmānyaviṣayatvāt||

tajjātīye ceti| atrāpi sāmānyarūpeṇeti sambandhanīyam| nanu
dharmiviśiṣṭasyānyatra vṛttivirodho'viśeṣaṇe vā nānumeyadharmatā
syāt| na ayogavyavacchedena viśeṣaṇāt yathā caitro dhanurdhara
iti| yadi tarhi sādhanadharmasya viśeṣo'numānānumeyavyavahāraṁ pratya-
nupayogīti sāmānyameva liṅgaṁ parigṛhyate sādhyadharmasyāpi tadeva
grāhyam| na hi tasyāpi viśeṣas tatropayujyate|  sāmānyasādhane ca
siddhasādhyatā syāt| naiṣa doṣaḥ| sāmānyameva sādhyamayogavyavacche-
dena| na ca siddhasādhanam ayogavyavacchedasyāsiddheḥ||

ekadeśagrahaṇena sapakṣāvyāpino'pi hetutvaṁ darśayati| kuta
etaditi| anumeyatattulyayos tulye sadbhāvavacana ekatra sarvatra
sadbhāvo'nyatraikadeśe'pītyetat kuto hetorlabhyata iti pṛcchati|

vyavacchedaphalatvād vākyānāmiṣṭataś cāvadhāraṇādetal labhyata
ityāha- tattulya evetyādi| anenānyayogavyavacchedenātrāvadhāra-
ṇamāśritam yathā pārtho dhanurdhara iti darśayati| yadyevaṁ sādhyadharmi-
ṇyavṛttiriti cet na anyaniṣedhārthatvāt| tatra vṛttau labdhāyāṁ
samuccīyamānāvadhāraṇamanyad vyavacchinatti

naraṁ ca nārāyaṇameva cādau svataḥ sutau dvau janayāṁ babhūva
iti yathā||

na tarhi vaktavyamiti| ata evāvadhāraṇāt tadarthasya gatatvāditi
manyate| etat punarityādi| niyamyate'neneti niyamaḥ| sādharmya-
vān vaidharmyavāṁś ca prayoga ucyate| prayogavākyena hi pramāṇaṁ
prakāśayatā kimayaṁ nitya uta neti pareṣāṁ saṁśayadolārūḍhā buddhira-
nitya evāyamityarthāntarād vyavacchidyānitya eva vyavasthāpyate|
tasmāt prayogo niyamaḥ| tadarthaṁ tṛtīyaṁ rūpaṁ vaktavyam| anvayavya-
tirekayorniścitavyāptikamekamapi rūpaṁ prayuktamarthād dvitīyaṁ gamayatī-
tyekasyāpi prayogaḥ syāditi| dvirūpaṁ tarhi liṅgaṁ prāptam| na anva-

yavyatirekayoḥ pṛthagrūpatvāt| te tvekenāpi vākyena śakye darśayitu-
miti prayogasamāsa ucyate na rūpasamāsaḥ| tathā hyuktam- arthā-

syādetat- asati nāstitā nopapadyata eva asato'dhikaraṇa-
tvādyayogāt| śaktiprabhāvitāni hi kārakāṇi asataś ca sarvasā-
marthyavirahādityata āha- asatveva nāstiteti| nipāto bhinna-
kramaḥ| asati nāstitaivetyevaṁ draṣṭavyaḥ| atha vā yathānyāsamevāstu||

nanvevaṁ sati sattāvati nāstitā na prāpnoti| naiṣa doṣaḥ iha nā-
stitāsatīti lakṣaṇavākye'sati nāstitaivetyavadhāraṇasyeṣṭatvāt|
niyamavatī nāstitoktā| tatas tāmadhikṛtyaivamuktam| tadasyāyama-
rthaḥ- asati nāstitaiva vastupratiṣedharūpā bhavati na tvastitāvidhi-
rūpā vidherasatyayogāt| etat pramāṇaphalam| nānyatreti|
anantaramasataḥ prakṛtatvāt tadapekṣayātrānyārtho draṣṭavyaḥ| asato
'nyatra sattāvati na nāstitaiva bhavati tatra vidherapi sambhavāt|
anena niyamavatyā nāstitāyāḥ sati pratiṣedhaṁ kurvanniyamarahitā
nāstitāstītyamumarthaṁ gamayati| viśiṣṭapratiṣedhena hi tadviparītapra-
tītirbhavati nāstīha phalitaḥ palāśa iti yathā| eṣa dṛṣṭāntaḥ
parasya siddhatvāt| asati hi paro nāstitāṁ necchati na tu sati||

viruddha iti| itikaraṇo hetau| etad darśayati- yadyasati kaścid
vastudharmo vidhīyeta syād doṣaḥ vastudharmasyāsatyasambhavāt| na
cātra kiñcid vidhīyate| kiṁ tarhi| pratiṣedhamātraṁ kriyate| na cāsan
vandhyāsutādirnāstitāyā viruddhaḥ| tasmāt sā tatra sambhavatīti|
yo nāstitāyā na viruddhaḥ tatrāsau sambhavati| tad yathāsati|
aviruddhaś cāsanvastudharmapratiṣedhalakṣaṇāyā nāstitāyāḥ| svabhā-
vaḥ| adhikaraṇādivyavahāras tu na vastunibandhana eva| pareṇāpyetad
abhyupetaṁ nāsati nāstiteti bruvāṇenetyabhiprāyaḥ||

jñānagrahaṇamityādi| jñānaṁ gṛhyate yena taj jñānagrahaṇam
yatnāntaram| etaduktaṁ bhavati- tathā yatnāntaraṁ kartavyam yathā liṅga-
viṣayajñānaṁ labhyate| anyathājñātādapi dhūmāderuddiṣṭadeśaviśeṣe
vahnyādāvanumitiḥ syāditi||

jñānamapyāttamityādinā sāmarthyākṣiptatvāj jñānasya na tad
yatnāntarapratipādyamiti darśayati||

ekaikadvidvirūpaś cetyādi| ekaikaṁ dvedve ca rūpe yasya sa
tathoktaḥ| arthasambandhādatra puṁliṅganirdeśaḥ| arthata iti| vināpi
śabdenārthalabdhatāmasyārthasya darśayati||

yadi tarhyarthalabdha evāyamarthaḥ kimarthamākhyāyate| arthato'yamartho
mayā pratipādito vināpi śabdenetyevamākhyāyamānenāpyākhyāto
bhavati| na cārthalabdhasya punarvacanena pratipādanaṁ phalavat||

satyametat tathāpi mandabuddhivyutpādanārthamayamarthalabdho'pyartha
ākhyāyate na tūddhaṭitajñāpekṣayeti| atra codyam- tattulya eva
sadbhāva ityanenānvayaḥ pratipādyate| sa ca na vyatirekamantareṇa|
nāstitāsatītyanenāpi vyatirekaḥ| so'pi na vinānvayena| tat
kathamevamuktam- tattulye'sti nāpi tadabhāve nāsti| tadabhāve
nāsti na tattulye'stītyādi| naiṣa doṣaḥ| na hyetadanvayalakṣaṇaṁ
vyatirekalakṣaṇaṁ ca prakṛtarūpamadhikṛtyoktam| kiṁ tarhi| sapakṣe
sadbhāvamātraṁ vipakṣe ca nāstitvamātraṁ niyamarahitam| chandato'pi vā-
cāṁ pravṛttiḥ arthas tu parīkṣyaḥ| ayaṁ cātrārtho vivakṣitaḥ- yasyā-
nvayavyatirekau na staḥ sa satyapi pakṣadharmatve na hetuḥ| yasya ca

pakṣadharmatvaṁ nāsti so'pi satyapyanvayavyatirekavattve na heturiti| sa
cānenāpi prakāreṇa śakyata eva pratipādayitumiti||

anāsthāvacanaṁ prati mūrtatvānnityaḥ śabda iti vaiśeṣikamatena
nityamūrtaparamāṇuvyapekṣayaikarūpaḥ| evaṁ nityaḥ śabdaḥ aprame-
yatvāditi vipakṣād vyāvṛtterekarūpaḥ| nityaḥ śabdaḥ amūrta-
tvāditi dvirūpaḥ sādhāraṇaḥ| nityaḥ śabdaḥ śrāvaṇatvādityasā-
dhāraṇo'yaṁ dvirūpaḥ yadi śabdatvaṁ nityaṁ nābhyupeyate| anityaḥ
śabdaḥ cākṣuṣatvāditi dvirūpo'yamasiddhaḥ yadi jātayaś cakṣurgrā-
hyā neṣyante||

arūpo'pyasti| tad yathā nityaḥ śabdaḥ cākṣuṣatvādityevamā-
dikaḥ| sa tvanayaiva diśā gamyata iti vṛttau noktaḥ| sūtre tv
ekaikadvidvirūpaś cetyatra caśabdas tatsamuccayārtho draṣṭavyaḥ| anye
tvāhuḥ - arūpo nopanyastaḥ liṅgābhāsatvābhāvāt| yatra hi kaści-
drūpaikadeśo 'sti sa tadvadābhāsamāno buddhiṁ viparyāsayatīti sa
evātrocyata iti||

anumeyo hi dharmaviśiṣṭo dharmī ityuktam| ye tvanyathecchanti
tanmataṁ nirākartumupanyasyati- atra tvityādi| avyabhicārata iti
hetuḥ| yena yasyāvyabhicāro na kathyate na tat tasya sādhyam| tad
yathā dhūmasya jalam| na ca sādhyadharmeṇa hetoravyabhicāro na kathyata
iti vyatirekiṇaṁ svabhāvaṁ manyante||

siddhatvāditi| yat siddham na tat sādhyam uṣṇo 'gniriti
yathā| siddhau ca kevalau dharmadharmiṇāviti svabhāvaviruddhamāha||

liṅgaṁ dharme tu siddhaṁ cediti| yo hi kevalaṁ dharmaṁ sādhyamicchati
tenāvaśyaṁ tatraiva liṅgaṁ draṣṭavyam| anyathā taṁ na pratyāyayet| na hyanya-
tra viditaṁ liṅgamanyaṁ pratyāyayati mā bhūdatiprasaṅga iti| tataś ca
liṅgagrahaṇakāla eva liṅgino gatatvāt kimaparamanumīyeta yadarthaṁ
sambandhaḥ smaryeta||

athāgnisambaddhe deśa iti sambaddhagrahaṇamatiprasaṅgaparihārāya| sa
eva deśo'gnimattvena kiṁ neṣyata ityevaśrutiḥ kevalasya dharmasya

sādhyatvavyavacchedāya| evaṁ kevalo dharmaḥ sādhyatvena yujyate yadi
dharmī nāsyadhāratveneṣyate| anyathā yatra dharmiṇi liṅgamupalabhyate
tatrādhāra āśrīyamāṇe samudāya eva sādhyaḥ syāt| tataḥ sa evai-
ṣṭavyaḥ| niyogataś caitadevamabhyupeyam| dharmamātre hi sādhye sattāsya
sādhyā syāt| tac cāyuktam tasyāḥ siddhitvāt yadāha- na hya-
gnisattā na pratīteti| tadanena- yat siddhim na tat sādhyamityā-
dikaṁ pūrvoktaṁ svabhāvaviruddhamāha||

sambandhe'pi dvayaṁ nāstīti| dvayaṁ sādhyadharmaḥ sādhanadharmaś ca|
na hyagneḥ pradeśasya ca saṁyogalakṣaṇe sambandhe vahnidhūmau vidyete| yadi
tatra dvayaṁ nāsti kimiti tasya sādhyatvaṁ na bhavatītyāha- evaṁ ca
kriyata ityādi| anumānakāle hi yatratatraśabdābhyāmanumeyaparāma-
rśibhyāmanumānaṁ kriyate| atra yadi pradeśaḥ sādhyaḥ syāt yujyeta
tābhyāṁ tasya pratyavamarśaḥ| anyathāgnidhūmau svaśabdena nirdiṣṭau prade-
śo'pi nānumeyaḥ| sambandhe'pi dvayaṁ nāstīti nirviṣayau tau
syātām| tadanena- yatrāgnidhūmau na staḥ na sa dhūmenānumeyaḥ ja-
lavat- na staś cāgnidhūmau sambandha iti viruddhavyāptamāha||

ṣaṣṭhī śrūyeteti| sambandhavivakṣāyāṁ hyagniśabdaḥ ṣaṣṭhyantaḥ syāt
yathāgneruṣṇaḥ sparśa ityatra| prathamāntas tu śrūyate'gniratreti| tato
ganyate- nātra sambandho vivakṣita iti| nanu ca svārthānumānādhikā-
ro'yam| tatra kaḥ prasaṅgaḥ ṣaṣṭhyāḥ| naiṣa doṣaḥ| ṣaṣṭhīśravaṇābhāvena
parārthānumāne sphuṭamupalabhya sambandhābhāvaṁ svārthānumāne'pi pratipā-
dayati| tadetaduktaṁ bhavati- yatrāgniśabdaḥ prathāmāntaḥ na tatra sambandhasya pratiyogino vivakṣā| tad yathā sambandhāvivakṣāyāṁ prayu-
kte'gniśabde| prathamāntaś cāgniratretyatrāgniśabda iti kāryaviruddhaḥ||

syādetat- abhikaraṇavibhaktyaiva sambandha uktaḥ| tat kutaḥ ṣaṣṭhī-
prasaṅga iti| yadā tarhyanityaḥ śabda iti prathamāntayoreva dharmadharmiṇoḥ
prayogaḥ tadā kā kalpanā| na cāgniratretyukte ādhārādheyabhāvaḥ
sādhyatvena pratīyate| kiṁ tarhi| agnireva| tasyāpi ca sambaddhasya
pradeśe sādhyamānatvāt sa eva samudāyaḥ sādhya ityāpannam||

avācyaḥ svadharmeṇeti sambandhanaṁ hi sambandha iti bhāvarūpeṇa
sambandhaśabdenābhidhānāt| bhāvaś cānyena sambandhinā yujyata iti

sambandhyantarākāṅkṣā jāyate- kasya sambandha iti| tataś ca samba-
ndhyeva sa bhavatīti na svarūpeṇa sambandho'bhidhīyate| na caivamanumeya
ityabhyupetabādhāmāha| pakṣavacanasya hi sādhanatvamicchatābhyupetamanu-
meyasya vācyatvam| tat sambandhānumeyatve hīyate||

yadi śabdavācyo na bhavati kathaṁ tarhi pratīyata ityāha- arthagṛ-
hītaḥ syāditi| agniratretyagnyadhikaraṇabhāvena pradeśaḥ śabdena
pratyāyyate| sati cāgnisaṁyogitve pradeśasyādhikaraṇasaktiḥ| ataḥ
saiva pratīyamānā nāntarīyakatvāt saṁyogaṁ gamayatītyarthagṛhīta ityu-
cyate adhikaraṇaśaktisvakāryonnīyamānatvāt||

nanvevamanumeya eva syāt| dhūmādiliṅgasādhyātātivṛttis tasya
vivakṣitā nāśeṣaliṅgisādhyatātivṛttirityavirodhaḥ| yadapyuktam-
kāryānumeyaḥ sambandha iti tadapi svakāryānumeyatvāduktam na tu
dhūmādiliṅgānumeyatvāt| etaduktaṁ bhavati- yadi nāma sambandho'sti
svakāryeṇaivānumīyate na tvanyena dhūmādineti| yadāha- na tu dhūme-
nānumīyata iti| pūrvebhyo hetubhya iti| sambandhe'pi dvayaṁ nāsti
ṣaṣṭhī śrūyeta tadvati avācya ityetebhyaḥ||

na cāsau liṅgasaṅgata iti nāvinābhāvalakṣaṇena sambandhena
liṅgena sambaddha ityarthaḥ| yasya yenāvinābhāvitvaṁ na pradarśyate na sa
tenānumīyate yathā dhūmena jalam| na pradarśyate ca sambandhena dhūma-
syāvinābhāvitvam| viruddhavyāptaḥ| apradarśanaṁ tu arthāntarasya
tadakāryatvenāvinābhāvasyāsattvāt| naiṣa ityādinānekāntamāha||

anyatreti sāmānyena sarvatra mahānasādau| sa kimarthaṁ pradarśyate|
yatra pradeśādāvagnyādiḥ sādhayitumiṣṭaḥ tatra prasiddhaṁ dhūmādiliṅgaṁ yena
dharmeṇa tadavinābhūtamanalādinā tatsambaddhaṁ pradeśādikaṁ dharmiṇaṁ gama-
yiṣyatītyevamartham||

yas tvanyatreti dhūmavatpradeśasāmānye| so'nyatretyādi| ayama-
nyatraśabdo dharmiṇi sādhye pradeśādau vartate| dhūmamātradarśane 'pīti|
mātraśabdo'gnidarśanavyavacchedārthaḥ agnāvadṛṣṭe'pītyarthaḥ| atha vā
mātraśabdenedaṁ darśayati- vināpi dharmiṇānugamadarśaneneti||

eṣa samāsārthaḥ- dharmaviśiṣṭasya dharmiṇo'numeyatve'pi yo'gninā
dhūmasyāvinābhāvo mahānasādau pradarśyate sa upāya eva pradeśasyā-
gnimattvaprasādhanāyeti kṛtvā| tathā hi- yatra dhūmaḥ tatrāgniriti
niścayādanyatra dhūmamātraṁ dṛṣṭvā deśamagnimantaṁ pratipadyate| tato dharmeṇā-
vinābhāvitvamavaśyaṁ pradarśayitavyamiti| dharmiṇā tu viśeṣeṇa vāvi-

nābhāvaḥ pradarśyeta sāmānyena vā| tatra na tāvad viśeṣeṇa pradarśa-
yitavyaḥ anyatra tasyābhāvitvenāśakyatvāt yadāha- anyathā
hītyādi| dharmisāmānyena tu sambhavatyavinābhāvaḥ sa ca tena prada-
rśitaḥ yadāha- ādhārasāmānyena tvityādi| ādheyenāvinā-
bhāvitve darśyamāna ādhāreṇāpi darśitaṁ bhavati ādheyatantratvādādhāra-
sya||

atha vā yatra dhūmaḥ tatrāgniriti nānena dhūmasyāgnimātreṇāvinā-
bhāvitvaṁ kathyate| kiṁ tarhi| ādhārasāmānyaviśiṣṭena| tasmādādhāra-
sāmānyenāpi tad darśitameva| sambandhena tu sarvathāvinābhāvitvasyā-
darśanamevetīdamuktam- viṣama upanyāsa iti| tadevaṁ sāmānyenāpya-

na tāvadagnitvamastīti| yadi vyakteranyat sāmānyaṁ syāt
bhedena buddhau pratibhāseta na ca pratibhāsate| tasmāt svabhāvānupala-
mbhatiraskṛtasattākaṁ nāstyeva tat| athānanyat evamapi vyaktivat

ṇamāha- tatpūrvakamityādi| tadanantaraṁ prakṛtaṁ pratyakṣaṁ pūrvaṁ yasya tat
tathoktam| pūrvaṁ yasya pratyakṣeṇa liṅgaliṅginau prasiddhau tatsambandho vā
sa evottarakālaṁ liṅgamātradarśanāl liṅginamanumimīta iti pratyakṣa-
pūrvaṁ tad bhavati||

pūrveṇa tulyaṁ pūrvavat| yathā sambandhakāle pratyakṣeṇādhigataṁ vastu
tathaivottarakālaṁ liṅgadarśanādapi tatra jñānamupajāyate| tasmāt tat
pūrvavat| śeṣeṇa pratyakṣeṇa tulyaṁ śeṣavadvastu| tadviṣayamapi jñānaṁ
śeṣavat| yathā phalamekaṁ rasataḥ pratyakṣīkṛtya śeṣāṇyapyevaṁrasāni
pratyakṣarasena tulyatvāt tadvaditi rasānumānam| nanu ca pratyakṣāditarac
cheṣaṁ bhavati na tu śeṣavat| atas tadviṣayaṁ jñānaṁ kathaṁ śeṣavadviṣayaṁ
bhavati| parasparāpekṣaṁ śeṣatvamiti pratyakṣamapītarāpekṣayā śeṣaṁ tena
cetarasyāpi tulyatvāc cheṣavattvamityadoṣaḥ||

atha vā pūrvaṁ kāraṇam| tadasyāstīti pūrvavat kāryam| tadviṣaya-
mapi jñānaṁ pūrvavat yat kāraṇāt kāryānumānam| śeṣaṁ kāryam|
tadasyāstīti śeṣavat kāraṇam| tadviṣayamapi jñānaṁ śeṣavat yat
kāryāt kāraṇānumānam||

sāmānyato dṛṣṭam yadanyasādṛśyādanyatrātyantaparokṣe jñānam|
yathā caitrasya gatipūrvikāṁ deśāntaraprāptimupalabhya tatsāmānyena ravera-
pi gatipūrvikāstagiriprāptiranumīyate| nirdeśādeva tritve siddhe trivi-
dhagrahaṇamekasya pūrvavadanumānasya trikālaviṣayatvena trividhyajñāpanā-
rtham| tatra nadīpūrād vṛṣṭo deva ityatīte'numānam| pipīlikāṇḍasa-
ñcārād varṣiṣyatītyanāgate| kekāyitādatra mayūra iti vartamāne| atra
matupā pūrvavattvaṁ na sambhavatīti vatinā yojayitavyam||

sambandho nendriyagrāhya iti| bhūtaguṇavat sambandhibhyo bhedenāpra-
tibhāsanāditi manyate| ya indriyajñāne na pratibhāsate nāsāvindri-
yagrāhyaḥ indriyavat| tathā ca sambandhaḥ| vyāpakābhāvaḥ||

nāpi sarvatreti cakṣurvijñānendriyādīnāmindriyeṇa grahaṇāsambha-
vāt| sarvatragrahaṇam agnidhūmādīnāṁ pratyakṣagrahaṇasambhavāt|
anenāvyāpitāmāha| atha vā sarvatraiva sambandhināvapratyakṣāvityayama-

matup tarhyayamastu| na ca yathoktadoṣāpattiḥ| na hi sarvamanumānaṁ
kāraṇāt kāryaviṣayaṁ bhavati| sambandho'pi cātra nirdiṣṭa eva kārya-
kāraṇabhāvapradarśanādityata āha - na matup vyabhicāritvāditi|
kāryakāraṇabhāvena hi kāryasyaivāvinābhāvo bhavati na kāraṇasya|
tathā hi- satyapi kāraṇe sahakārivaikalyāt kāryaṁ na bhavati|
yathā satyapi meghe kṛṣīvalānāṁ dharmābhāvād vṛṣṭiḥ| satyapi ca kāra-
ṇāntarasamādhāne  viruddhenādharmādinā pratibandhāt||

nanu viśiṣṭāvasthāprāptasyaiva bījadermukhyaṁ kāraṇatvam| na ca tasya
pratibandhaḥ śakyate kartum| tat kuto vyabhicāritvam| na| taddarśanāt
sambandhasmṛtyapekṣādanumeyapratipattāviṣyamāṇāyāṁ sambandhasmṛteḥ prāk
kāryamevotpannaṁ pratyakṣībhavati| na cāpratyakṣe kārye tathāvidhakāraṇāva-
gatiḥ yataḥ kāraṇāt tat pratīyeta| tasmān na kāraṇāt kārya-
siddhiḥ||

śeṣavatyapi ced vatirityādinātrāpyanantaroktameva doṣamāha| na
hyavaśyamityādi| nāyaṁ niyogaḥ - tulyarūpādinā tulyarasena bhā-
vyam| etāvat tu syāt- evaṁsvabhāvānyetatsamānahetūni caivaṁrasā-
nīti| na tu rūpasāmyamātrādanumānam vyabhicārāt||

matup cedagatau na syādityādi| agatirapratītiḥ| kasya|
kāryatāyāḥ yasmāt kāryādidaṁ kāraṇānumānam| ataḥ kāryarūpe-
ṇāpratītau satyāṁ liṅgasyānumeye kāraṇe'vinābhāvi-
tvagrahaṇādavagatirna syāt| sā ca dṛṣṭā||

nanu cārthāntarasya kāryakāraṇabhāvasiddherevāvinābhāvaniścayaḥ| ta-
t kathaṁ kāryatāmagṛhītvāvinābhāvitvaṁ śakyate niścetum| śāstradṛṣṭakā-
ryatāgrahaṇātikramo'tra vivakṣitaḥ na tu lokaprasiddhakāryatāgrahaṇā-
tikrama ityadoṣaḥ| śāstre hi jaladhārāvayavinaḥ sajātīyairevāpyaiḥ pa-
ramāṇubhirārabhyante| jaladās tu paramāṇvākarṣaṇaṁ prati nimittatvamupa-
yanto vṛṣṭikāraṇavyapadeśabhājo bhavantīti vyavasthā| na caivaṁvidhaṁ kā-
ryakāraṇabhāvaṁ lokaḥ pratyeti| kiṁ tarhi| jaladeṣu satsu vṛṣṭidarśanāt
tadabhāve cādarśanādeva sākṣādeva vṛṣṭer jalādā eva kāraṇamityevaṁ darśa-
nādarśanābhyāṁ kāryakāraṇabhāvamavasyati| śāstradṛṣṭas tu kāryakāra-
ṇabhāvo nopapadyata eva nityānāṁ paramāṇūnāmasiddheḥ siddhāvapyavi-
kāritvādākraṣṭumaśakyatvāt ākṛṣṭānāmapi kramayaugapadyābhyāṁ kāryā-
rambhāyogāt avayavikāryasya ca vastusato dhīmadbhir vistare-
ṇānyatra niṣiddhatvādityalamatiprasaṅgena||

tathā yat kṛtakatvādibhiriti| matuppakṣasyāvyāpitāmāha| na
hi kṛtakatvādīnāmanityatvādibhiḥ kāryakāraṇabhāvo'sti||

anyeṣāṁ darśanam - ekasyāvayavinaḥ śarīrāderekasmādavayavāduda-
rādeḥ pratyakṣādhigatād yo'nyo'vayavaḥ pṛṣṭhādiḥ sa śeṣaḥ| tadviṣayaṁ

jñānaṁ śeṣavat| tac ca na vyabhicarati| na hi kadācidapi kukṣiḥ pṛ-
ṣṭhādinā vinopalabdhapūrva iti| atrāpi sarvasambhava eva| sarvatraiva hyanu-
māne pratyakṣārthavyatirikta evārtha sampratipattiḥ| na hyagṛhītāl li-
ṅgāt kvacidapyanumānamupajāyate| vyabhicāro'pi cāstyeva śṛṅgādya-
vayavasambhave'pi lāṅgūlādyavayavābhāvāt||

pūrvavatyapi ceti| pūrvavadityatra vatipakṣe viṣāṇādiliṅgena gavā-
rthānumāne samavāyaḥ sambandhaḥ| sa cehabuddhiliṅgāvaseyo varṇyate| iha-
buddheś ca tena sambandhāsiddheḥ pratibandhābhāvāc cāliṅgayoga iti na
tataḥ sa sidhyati| tataś ca sāsnāder liṅgād gavārthānumānaṁ na
syāt| tac ca dṛṣṭam| tathā hi- ekasāmagyradhīnasāsnādyavayavā-
tmako gauriti yuktyā vimṛśanto'vinābhāvaṁ niścitya sāsnāder li-
ṅgād gavārthe'numānaṁ kurvanti| dhūmādagnyanumāne saṁyogaḥ sambandhaḥ|
tasyāpyagrahaṇe pratītir na syāt| sā ca dṛṣṭā| tathā hi- dhūmamātraṁ
dṛṣṭvāgniravinābhāvaniścayapūrvakamanumīyate| na ca tadāgṛhītasakalāśra-
yo'nekārthasādhāraṇatvād dvitvādivat saṁyogaḥ paricchidyate||

matuppakṣe tu meghādīnāṁ kāryakāraṇabhāvo vṛṣṭyādibhiḥ saha samba-
ndhaḥ||

śeṣavatyapi ced vatiriti vatipakṣe rūpasya rasenaikārthasamavāya
ityete yathoktāḥ| ante'padiṣṭatvāditi| śeṣavati matuppakṣo vicā-
rasyāntas tatrāpadiṣṭatvādasya||

kāraṇatvādīnāṁ ca sambandhitva iti| kāraṇatvādīnāṁ kāryatvādi-
bhiḥ saha liṅgaliṅgabhāvena sambandha iṣyamāṇe kāraṇatvādeḥ kāryatvādi-
mātrāpekṣatvāt tato liṅgini kāryatvādyākārameva jñānaṁ syāt na vṛ-
ṣṭyādyākāram| kiṁ kāraṇamityāha- sambandhamātradvāreṇetyādi| na
hi sambandhamantareṇa liṅgāl liṅgijñānam utpadyate| liṅgaṁ ca yathā
yena saha sambaddham tathā tameva gamayati nānyamanyathā mā bhūdati-
prasaṅga iti| kāraṇatvādinā ca meghādayaḥ kāryatvādinā vṛṣṭyādīnāṁ sa-
mbaddhā iti tanmātragatiḥ syāt||

syādetat- sarvātmanā teṣāṁ kāryakāraṇabhāvādayaḥ sambandhāḥ
nāṁśena| tato'yamaprasaṅgaḥ viśeṣāṇāmapi sambandhitvādityāha- sa-
rvākāragrahaṇaṁ cetyādi| sthūlabindukā vṛṣṭiraśanimatītyādyapi grahaṇaṁ
syāt evamādibhirapyākāraiḥ saha kāraṇakāryādibhāvāt| asmākaṁ
tu yadyapi sarvathā janyajanakabhāvaḥ tathāpi nāyaṁ prasaṅgaḥ tathā ni-
ścetumaśakyatvāt| parasya ca niścayātmakaṁ pratyakṣamiṣṭaṁ tadviṣayaś cā-
navayavaḥ| tato yadi tad gṛhṇāti sarvathā tena sa grāhyo na vā katha-
ñcidityuktam| atas tasyaivāyaṁ doṣaḥ||

pūrvatra ye'bhihitā doṣāḥ- sambandhāntarato gatiḥ kāryamātrādyanu-
mānaṁ sarvākāragrahaṇaṁ cetyādayaḥ tān sāmānyato dṛṣṭe'pyatideṣṭumā-
ha- sāmānyadṛṣṭamapyevamiti||

kathamityāha- tadapi hītyādi| kas tarhi pūrvābhyāṁ tasya viśeṣa
ityāha- atyantaparokṣa iti||

sarvatra ceti pūrvavadādiṣu triṣvapi| pūrvavac cheṣavaditi bruvatānume-
yajñānaṁ pramāṇamuktam| tadeva cārthādhigamaḥ| na cānyat phalamasti|

tataśa cābhyupetahānam| syādetat- hānopādānāpekṣābuddhayaḥ phala-
miti| naitadasti tāsāṁ hitāhitasmaraṇahetukatvāt| na hi tadevedaṁ
hitamahitaṁ cetyādyasmaratas tāḥ kasyacit samupajāyante| syādetat
- phalameva nābhyupetamityāha- na cetyādi| yat karaṇam tat ka-
rmaṇi kriyāphalam paraśuvat| tathā cānumānam| svabhāvaḥ||

siddhasādhyatāmāśaṅkyāha- liṅgajñānamityādi||

vyapadeśo na sidhyatīti yasmādanumeyameva mukhyaṁ pūrvavaccheṣava-
t jñānaṁ tūpacāreṇa| tadviṣayatvāt tathā vyapadiśyata iti varṇitam|
na ca liṅgajñānaṁ tadviṣayam yatas tathā vyapadeśo'sya syāt liṅga-
sya pūrvavaccheṣavattvenāsaṁvarṇitatvāc chāstra ityabhyupetahāniḥ||

yac cetyādināpyabhyupetahānimevāha| tathā hi- tatraivoktam-
ekaikasya vā traividhyajñāpanārthamuktaṁ trividhamiti| ko hetuḥ| ayameva
- traikālyagrahaṇād iti| idamapi matuppakṣe naivopapadyate kāraṇāda-

nāgatasyaiva kāryasya grahaṇāt| nāpi śeṣavataḥ anāgatānumānāsa-

ttiḥ śeṣavaditi| atrāpi sambandhānirdeśādanumānatvameva tasya durla-
bham kutaḥ punas traividhyam| pratipāditaṁ prapañcena śabdaguṇatvasyā-
pyāgamikatvam āptasañjñāvidhānenetyādinā| tato na śabde guṇatva-
pratipattiranumānaṁ||

na ca tatra vatāviti| pūrvavatyanumāne sambandhanirdeśa eva nāsti|
atas tasyānumānatvamanirdiṣṭameveti kuto'sya traividhyam| na hi pūrve-
ṇa tulyamityākāramātranirdeśān nirdiṣṭaṁ bhavati smṛtyādiṣvapi pū-
rvadad grahaṇāt| tathā śeṣeṇa pratyakṣeṇa tulyamityatrāpi naiva samba-
ndho nirdiṣṭa iti|

vaiśeṣikāṇāmapītyādi| asya sambandhaḥ- yogiṇāṁ pratyakṣajñānavi-
dhiruktaḥ| laiṅgikamidānīṁ vakṣyāmaḥ| āha- kimidaṁ laiṅgikaṁ nāme-
ti| ucyate- ālocitādhyavasānamālocitānyānugamanaṁ ca| tatra
yat sākṣādālocanamarthānāṁ yathā gaurevāyamaśca evāyamiti tat pra-
tyakṣam| yat tvanyadālocyānyasyānugamanam tan no laiṅgikam| ta-
sya tvatiprasajyamānasya liṅgaliṅginiyamāya sāmayiko lakṣaṇanirdeśaḥ
kriyate| samaye bhavaḥ sāmayikaḥ samayakṛta ityarthaḥ| tad yathā-
asyedamityādi| asyeti liṅgamāha idamityanumeyam| yadā kha-
lvasyedaṁ prasiddhamasandigghaṁ ca bhavati- asya kāraṇasya jñāpane bhā-
vane va samarthasyedaṁ vyaṅgyamabhinirvartyaṁ vā kāryamiti athāsya kāra-
ṇālocanādagṛhyamāṇe'pi kārye'nuvyavasāyo bhavati yathā dinakaro-
dayadarśanād ghaṭābhivyaktau| tantūn vātānavitānāvasthitāṁs tantu-
vāyādhiṣṭhātān dṛṣṭvā bhāvini paṭe||

evam- yadāsyedaṁ prasiddhamasandigdhaṁ ca bhavati- asya kāryasya
vyaṅgyasya nirvartyasya vedaṁ kāraṇamiti athāsya kāryālocanādi-
tyādi yathāyogaṁ vācyam||

sambandhi dvividham- saṁyogi ca yathā dhūmo'gneḥ samavāyi
ca yathā viṣāṇaṁ goḥ||

ekārthasamavāyyapi dvividham- kāryaṁ kāryāntarasya kāraṇaṁ
kāraṇāntarasya| tatra kāraṇasyaikārthasamavāya ekasthārtheṣu samavā-
yaḥ kāryasya punarekasminnarthānāṁ samavāya iti vigrahabhedāt| tatra
kāryāt kāryāntare'numānam tad yathā rūpāt sparśe kāraṇāt
kāraṇāntare tad yathā pādāt pāṇau||

virodhi caturvidham- abhūtaṁ bhutasya tad yathāvidyamānaṁ va-
rṣakarma sato vāyvabhrasaṁyogasya tasmin sati varṣakarmābhāvāt| bhūta-
mabhūtasya tadeva varṣakarma vidyamānaṁ tasyaiva vāyvabhrasaṁyogasyātivṛtta-
tāṁ pravṛttyabhāvaṁ gamayati| bhūtaṁ bhūtasya dravatvaṁ setubandhasya| dravatva-
kāryeṇa syandanena virodhād dravatvena virodho darśitaḥ| abhūtamabhūta-

kāryakāraṇe nānumitihetū ityuktamiti parābhimate ityabhiprā-

vyañjakalakṣaṇe| naiṣa doṣaḥ| vyaṅgyavyañjakabhāvo hi janyajanakabhāva e-
va| tathā hi- sahakāriṇiḥ prakāśādupādānāpekṣāj jñānajananayo-

ntaratve ghaṭādyanupakāraprasaṅgāt| sāmarthyāc ca jñānotpatter nityaṁ gha-
ṭādīnāmagrahaṇaprasaṅgaḥ syāt| na hyakāraṇaṁ viṣaya upapadyate| tasyā-
pi tatra sāmarthyamiti cet kevalo'pi janayet| sahakāriṇamapekṣa

janayati na kevala iti cet keyamanupakāryasyāpekṣā| jñānamabhi-
vyaktiriti cet nityaṁ ghaṭāderagrahaṇaprasaṅga ityādi sarvaṁ punarāvartate|
tan na paraparikalpitābhivyaktirupapadyate| tato na tasya liṅgaliṅgi-
bhāvaḥ||

nāpi tantvādibhyo'vayavebhyo'nyadevayavidravyaṁ paṭādikamavadhāryate|
tataḥ svabhāvānupalambhatiraskṛtasattākaṁ nāstyeva tat| tat kutas
tais tasya tena vā teṣāmanumānam| sattve'pi tasya na kāraṇādanumi-
tir yuktā vyabhicārādityuktam||

syādetat- samagreṇa kāraṇena kāryasya sambhavo'numīyata ityayu-
ktametat niścayātmakasya pratyakṣasyābhyupagamāt| kāraṇaṁ hi jana-
kameva vā syādasambhavatpratibandham ajanakameva vā niryatpratibandha-
m| pūrvakalpe tat tena rūpeṇa pratyakṣeṇa niścitamiti tato viśiṣṭakā-
ryotpādānumānameva syāt| na ca bhavati| yathā hi kāraṇāt kāryaṁ pa-
ricchidya tadarthaṁ pravartamānā vipralabhyamānā dṛśyante| dvitīye tu pakṣe
kāraṇameva tan na bhavatīti niścaye sati kutas tataḥ kāryasambhavānu-

kathaṁ punas tadagatau siddhirityāha- dṛṣṭo hītyādi| saṁyogasya
hi dviṣṭhatvād dvitvavat sarvāśrayadarśanapūrvakameva grahaṇaṁ bhavati| anu-
mānakāle cāśrayasya sarvasyādarśanāt saṁyogasya grahaṇaṁ na sambhavatye-
va| atha cāvinābhāvitvasmaraṇādagnir dhūmenānumīyate| syādetat
- avidita evāsāvanumitihetur bhaviṣyatītyāha- jñānakāraṇatve-
naivetyādi svaviṣayajñānahetutvenetyarthaḥ| sarva eva hi jñāpakaḥ svavi-
ṣayaṁ jñānamupajanayan jñāpyamarthaṁ jñāpayati pradīpavat| anyathā'gṛ-
hītādapi dhūmādagnau pratītiḥ syāt||

saṁyogasya cetyādi| yaḥ saṁyogāśrayaḥ sa dvitīye pratiyogini
pratītihetuḥ| tad yathā dhūmaḥ| tathā cāgniriti svabhāvaṁ prasaṅgamāha|

syādetat - iṣyata evaitadityāha- dṛṣṭaś cetyādi| nanu ca dhūma-
syāpi vāsagṛhādiṣvanagner bhāvo dṛṣṭa eva| tat ko'nayor viśeṣaḥ
yenaikatrābhivyañjakatvaprasaṅgaś codyate netaratra| evaṁ manyate- dhūmasya
saṁyogitvaṁ yadyapi vartamānaṁ nāsti bhūtapūrvaṁ tu vidyata eva naimitti-
kasya nimittāvyabhicārāt| utpadyamāna eva dhūmo'gninā saṁyujyate|
agnis tu nimittaṁ tasya| na cāvaśyaṁ nimittāani naimittikavanti bha-
vanti| atas tasya kasyāñcidavasthāyāṁ bhūtapūrvamapi saṁyogitvaṁ na sa-
mbhavatīti| tadevam- yataḥ kadācidagnir dhūmasya nimittaṁ kadācid-
nimittam tasmād vyabhicāritvān na tasya dhūmaṁ pratyabhivyañjakatva-
m| saṁyoge tvanumitihetāviṣyamāṇe tat prāpnotīti codyate||

apavādādityādi| sandigdhaśrutyānaikāntikamāha sandehahetu-

- sāmānyataḥ khalvapi pratyakṣaṁ cānavadhāritaṁ ceti| saiva viśeṣya
vaktavyeti yathārthā śrotrādivṛttiḥ pratyakṣamiti| yathānyatreti nyāya-
sūkṣme| evaṁ hyucyamāne pratyakṣalakṣaṇaṁ cādoṣaṁ bhavatīha ca viśeṣaṇaṁ na

atra kecidāhuḥ - yadyapi svārthālocanamātratvaṁ pratyakṣasya tathāpi

viśeṣayoḥ sarvathaiva śabdāderindriyaviṣayatvāditi| tadayuktam svavi-

pratyakṣaphalaṁ pratyakṣamiti| yaduktam- evaṁ ceṣyamāṇa ityādi
tasyāyaṁ parihāraḥ vikalpikatvān manovṛtteḥ sāmānyaviśeṣaviṣaya-
tvāt| tadapyayuktamiti| pratyakṣaphalatvaṁ yadi manovṛtteḥ syāt syāt
tathāvyapadeśaḥ| tac ca nāsti bhinnaviṣayatvāt| etac ca prāgevo-
ktam| tasmādayuktaṁ pratyakṣaśabdavyapadeśyatvam| tad darśayati- na
cānyasyetyādi pratyakṣāt tatphalād vānyasya viṣayopacārahetvabhā-
vāt||

atha vā kecidevaṁ vyācakṣate - ekasmāt pratyakṣāditi pratyakṣaśa-
bdo'yaṁ prasiddhatvamupalakṣayati| pratyakṣāt prasiddhādityarthaḥ| tena pratya-
kṣāt pratyakṣaphalāc cānyasyāpi jñānasya viṣaye liṅge pratyakṣavyapade-
śo bhaviṣyatīti| ata āha- na cānyasyetyādi| evaṁ manyate-
prasiddhatvaṁ hi pramāṇena syāt pratyakṣādinā| tatra pratyakṣeṇa tāvat tan
nopapadyate yathoktād vidhānāt| anumānenāpi naiva anavasthāpra-
saṅgāt| yena hi liṅgena dhūmo'numīyate tatsādhanāyāparaṁ liṅgamanve-
ṣyam| tatsiddhaye'pyaparamityanavasthāprasaṅgaḥ| āgamo'pi naiva sadā
liṅgagrahaṇe vyāpriyate| na hi siddhāntasamayānāśritā liṅgamāgamena
paricchindanti| kaścidarthaḥ kasyacidindriyasya pratyakṣo bhavatīti
bhāṣyavacanāc cāyuktametaditi||

bhavatu nāma kathañcit pratyakṣavyapadeśa ityabhyupagamya doṣāntarābhi-
dhitsayāha- idaṁ ca vaktavyamityādi| svādeḥ sambandhinaḥ svatvādi-
rūpeṇaiva vā grahaṇaṁ syād rūpāntareṇa vā| yadi svatvādirūpeṇa sva-
mityevaṁ gṛhyate evaṁ sati svāmisambandhitvāt svasya svāminamanta-
reṇa svatvānupapatter niyataṁ svāmyapekṣatvāl liṅgadarśanāt pūrvameva
svāmipratipattyā bhāvyam| na hyanyathāsyedaṁ svamityevaṁ grahaṇaṁ bhavati|

tataś cottarakālaṁ sambandhasmaraṇamanarthakaṁ syāt svāminaḥ pūrvame-

athānyathākārāntareṇa grahaṇamiṣṭam tan noktamityasampūrṇatā
lakṣaṇasya| liṅgagrahaṇe tulyamiti| yadyavinābhāvitvena liṅgagrahaṇa-
m avinābhāvitvaṁ ca pratiyogyantarāpekṣameveti prāgeva liṅgagrahaṇāt
sādhyapratītyā bhāvyam evaṁ ca sādhye pratiyogini siddhe sambandhasma-
raṇānarthakyam| athānyathā tan noktamiti samānam| na ta-
syetyādi| anumeye sadbhāva iti vacanād dharmiṇi dhūmādeḥ sadbhāva-

terityarthaḥ| kathaṁ punas tadgatirityāha - dṛṣṭo hītyādi| kāryakāraṇa-
bhāve tu sambandhe yathā śāstre vibhajyate kāryakāraṇabhāvaḥ sambandhaḥ
tathaivāvyutpannatvamatra vivakṣitam na tu sarvatheti veditavyam| śāstre
hyekasyaiva vastunaḥ svarūpamavijahataḥ pariṇāmena kāryakāraṇabhāvo
vyavasthāpyate| ye'pi ca tathā kāryakāraṇabhāvasambandhaṁ na pratipadya-
nte te'pi prakārāntareṇa taṁ pratipadyāvinābhāvitvamātropalambhā-
danumeyaṁ niścinvanti||

kāraṇayoridaṁ kāryamidaṁ kāraṇamityetadeva na syāt| athāsti tayoḥ

hi bhedavyavasthāyāḥ svabhāvabheda eva nibandhanam| satyapi kāryakāra-
ṇatvena bhede traiguṇyajātyabhedādaikyamiti cet| na kāryakāraṇavyatire-
keṇa traiguṇyasyānupalakṣaṇāt| na ca nityasya krameṇa yogapadyena vā
pariṇāmaḥ sambhavati tat kutas tannibandhanā kāryakāraṇavyavasthe-

syādetat - agṛhīte eva so'numitikāraṇamityāha - na

na cāvaśyamityādi| nanu svāmyapekṣyaiva svasya rūpaniṣpattiḥ|

gṛhītaṁ liṅgaṁ pratiyoginaṁ gamayet prāg vā sambandhagrahaṇakāle tathā

sambhavāditi| evamanyatrāpi yathāsambhavaṁ vyabhicāro'bhyūhyaḥ||

syādetat - na sarvaṁ svasvāmibhāvādinā sambaddhaṁ gamakam| kiṁ ta-
rhi| yadavyabhicārīti| ata āha- na hyupalabdhasambandhasyet yādi|
yadi yathokte sambandhe gṛhīte'pi liṅgasya punar vyabhicārya-
vyabhicāritvamakṣyate tato'vinā bhāvitvamevānumitihetuḥ syā-
t na svasvāmibhāvādayaḥ sambandhāḥ||

syādetat - avinābhāvo'numitihetuḥ| sa tu yathokte sambandhe
sati bhavati| atas tannirdeśa iti| tadayuktam tadbhāve'pi tadabhā-

sambandhasyāviśiṣṭatvāditi| dviṣṭo hi nimittanaimittikasamba-
ndhaḥ| sa caikatra yathā dvitīye'pītyubhayatra gamyagamakabhāvaḥ syāt||

vadhyavadhakabhāvas tvasambandha eveti liṅgaliṅginorityabhiprāyaḥ|
ata evāha - na hi tau liṅgaliṅgināviti| itare sambandhāḥ parābhi-
prāyeṇa liṅgaliṅginoḥ sambhavanti| vadhyavadhakabhāvas tu paramatenāpi
na sambhavati| ahinakulayor hi vadhyavadhakabhāvaḥ na ca tau liṅga-
liṅgināviṣyete vyabhicārāt api tvahijayanakulaparājayau| na
ca tayor vadhyavadhakabhāvaḥ| evamanyatrāpīti kākolūkādiṣu||

yat punaravadhāritamityādinā lakṣaṇāvyāpitāmāha pradhānapuru-
ṣasamprayogapratipattihetoranumānasyāsaṅgrahāt| anvayādibhiriti|
ādiśabdena parimāṇakāryakāraṇabhāvaśaktipravṛttivaiścarūpyāṇi gṛhya-
nte| pradānāstitvādyadhigama ityatrāpyādigrahaṇenaivatvārthavattvapārā-
rthyādayaś cūlikārthāḥ| tadā katara iti saptasveko'pi na sambhava-
tīti pṛcchati| cintyamiti dvaividhyasambhavāt||

na pṛthagvācya iti| asti pradhānam bhedānāṁ darśanādityevaṁ vaktavya-
m na tu bhedānāmanvayadarśanād iti||
bhedā eva hi naimittikā iti utpādyatvāt| nimittaṁ pradhāna-
miti utpādakatvāt||

ananyatvāditi| anvayo'pi bhedānāmātmabhūtaḥ taddharmatvād dha-
rmadharmiṇoś cānanyatvāt| ato bhedavat tasyāpi naimittikatvamupapa-
nnam| evaṁ parimāṇādīnāmapi veditavyam||

na pañcadheti| bhedātmabhūtatvādanvayādīnāṁ bhedā evaiko vītaḥ syā-

dayaḥ tasmān nāyaṁ nimittanaimittikabhāvaḥ pradhānāstitvādyadhi-

yavāḥ santyeva| tadvyatiriktāvayavābhāvān niravayavatvamityadoṣaḥ|

astitvamekatvamathārthavattvaṁ pārārthyamanyatvamakartṛbhāvaḥ|
yogo viyogo bahavaḥ pumāṁsaḥ sthitiḥ śarīrasya ca śeṣavṛttyā||

ityete veditavyāḥ| tasmād yo'trānurūpa iti yogyaḥ| sa cāvinā-
bhāva eva||

nanu nimittanaimittibhāvena so'pyākṣipta eva naimittikasya ni-
mittāvinābhāvitvāt| satyam ākṣiptaḥ| pareṇa tu nimittanaimitti-

kabhāvena sambaddhaṁ liṅgaṁ gamakamicchatā nimittasyāpi gamakatvamaṅgīkṛ-

mittanaimittikabhāvena yasyāvinābhāvas tad gamakamityabhyupeyāt

tathetyādinetareṣvapi sambandheṣu yathoktaṁ doṣamatidiśati| bhāge-
naiveti kenacidākāreṇetyarthaḥ| asambandhatvamākhyātamiti| a-
sambandhatvamiti paryudāso'yam anumeyādhigamahetoḥ sambandhasya
yat sambandhatvam tasmādanyat sambandhatvamākhyātamityartho vedita-
vyaḥ| anyathā sambandhānāmasambandhatvānupapatter virodhaḥ syāt||

nanu ca svasvāmibhāvādayaḥ sambandhāḥ prakāśakāḥ| tatas taddvāreṇa
liṅgaṁ prakāśayat svasambandhānurūpyāt kenacideva bhāgena prakāśaya-
tīti yuktam| tat kutaḥ sarvathā gamyagamakabhāva ityāha - svasvā-
myāditvamātreṇetyādi| svadarśanād rājādau svāmitvākāreṇaiva pratī-
tiḥ syāt na śrīharṣādiviśeṣarūpeṇa| kuta ityāha- anyathā jñā-
na ityādi| yadi svasambandhānurūpyavyatirekeṇa grahaṇaśaktiriṣyate
sa eva sarvathā gamyagamakabhāvaḥ syāt||

vyaṅgyavyañjakabhāveneti| yadi vyaṅgyavyañjakabhāvena nimittanaimitti-
kabhāva iṣyate| tato na nimittanaimittikabhāva evaiko vyañjako vakta-
vyaḥ| kuta ityāha - sa saptadheti||

gamyagamakabhāvo hi vyaṅgyavyañjakabhāvaḥ| saptabhirapi ca sambandhaira-
numeyaṁ gamyate| tataḥ sa eva saptadhetyabhyupeyam| anyathānyeṣāmavya-
ñjakatvaṁ syāt| tato bhinnatvāditi nimittanaimittikabhāvādanyatvāt|

dhyate| atrāpi sādhyasya yoṁ'śo gamyaḥ tan naimittikatvam| ka-
smāt punar naimittikatvaṁ na vyañjakamityāha - vyaṅgyatvāditi sā-
dhyatvādityarthaḥ| siddhasya hi gamakatvaṁ bhavati na sādhyasya| tasmān
nimittabhāva ityeva vaktavyam na tu nimittanaimittikabhāva iti||

syādetat - naivaṁ vijñāyate - nimittanaimittikayor bhāvo nimitta-
naimittikabhāva iti| evaṁ hi vijñāyamāne naimittikagrahaṇamanarthakaṁ
syāt nimittabhāvasyaiva gamakatvāt| kathaṁ tarhi nimittasya naimitti-
kena bhāva iti| sa punaravinābhāvo bhavati| asmāt sādhyasiddhini-

nyūnaṁ dṛṣṭvā bhaviṣyattvaṁ kāryasya pratipadyate| tad yathā meghodayaṁ dṛṣṭvā bha-
viṣyattvaṁ vṛṣṭeḥ| śeṣavat yadā kāryanirvṛttiṁ dṛṣṭvā bhūtatvaṁ kāraṇasya pra-
tipadyate| tad yathā navavṛddhajalāṁ nadīṁ dṛṣṭvā bhūtatvaṁ meghasya| tatra pūrva-
vadanumānaṁ vyabhicāri śeṣavat savicāramavyabhicāri| teṣāṁ yadeta-
t sāmānyato dṛṣṭamanumānaṁ śeṣavat eṣa heturatīndriyāṇāṁ bhāvā-

tatprathamagrahaṇam punaḥ punaranumāne viśeṣadṛṣṭasambhavāt| kasmāt
sāmānyato dṛṣṭābhāva ityāha- na hyeṣu kāryakāraṇabhāvo'stīti|
kāryakāraṇabhāvāc ca sāmānyato dṛṣṭamiṣṭam| kathaṁ viśeṣadṛṣṭābhāva
ityāha- na viśeṣagrahaṇamiti| dvitīyādiṣu kṣaṇeṣu viśeṣagrahaṇaṁ sa-

radarśanāt| vadhyavadhakabhāvo'pyahijayanakulaparājayayoḥ kāryakāra-

vidhyapratipādanameva vākyasya phalaṁ syāt| kimatrārthāntaravyavacchedena

yataṁ tat kāryaṁ janayiṣyatītyadhyavasyati tasya kāraṇāt kāryajñānaṁ
bhavati| kadāciditi vacanān na bhavatyapi| yasmād bhavati ta-
smādanumānakāraṇatvādanumānamucyate| yasmāt kadācin na bhavati
tasmād vyabhicārītyucyate| evamanumānatvaṁ vyabhicāritvaṁ coktami-

tan na tadā tasyākāraṇatvāditi| tadāpi naivānumānopacāro
yuktaḥ anumānakāraṇatvābhāvāt| naiva hi sa tadānumānamiti

pamapekṣyata ityarthaḥ| svarūpamityetat kutaḥ| yato'vinābhāvitvasya
nānyāvyabhicāritāsti tasyāvyabhicāritārūpatvāt||

sarvānumāneṣvityādinā punarvacanānarthakyamāha| atha niyamārthaṁ
tad vacanam evamapi - sāmānyataḥ khalvapītyāderānarthakyaṁ syā-

ṣādastitvādayo bhinā athāpyabhinnāḥ sarvathānavagama ityabhyupeta-

tsāmānyākāreṇātīndriyārthādhigatiḥ| ādiśabdena pūrvavadādayo nai-

vāyyādīnāṁ samavāyasamavāyyādirūpeṇāpratyakṣatvābhyupagamāt parama-

nmatena tviti| tanmatagrahaṇam svamatena saṁyogasaṁyoginorapyapra-

na heturanumāyāś ceti| caśabdo bhinnakramo'vadhāraṇārthaś ca

rvyādayaḥ sādhanaviśeṣā gṛhyante dvitīyena codakopasaṁhārādayo vyā-
pāraviśeṣāḥ| arthagṛhītatvaṁ tu pākasya tata utpatteḥ| na hi tair vi-
nā pākaniṣpattir bhavati| tato'nyathānupapattyā tat sarvamarthagṛhīta-
meva| kathaṁ punaranumānam yāvatā trirūpāl liṅgato'rthadṛg anu-
mānamuktamityāha- pacatiliṅgādeva gamyata iti| pāka eva hi
sthālyādīnāmavinābhāvatvāl liṅgam| avinābhāvas tu tata utpa-

śyata ityanyathā nopapadyata ityucyate evaṁ sati bahirbhāvāavinābhūta-
mapi tan na dṛṣṭamiti tathāpi nopapadyate| atha jīvato devadattasya gṛ-
hādarśanaṁ bahirbhāva eva sati dṛṣṭaṁ tadabhāve ca na dṛṣṭamityanyathā nopapa-
dyata ityabhidhīyate tadā tadbhāvabhāvitvamevānyathānupapannatvamuktaṁ syā-
t| tac cānvayavyatirekiṇyevārthe bhavatīti nārthāpattiranumānād
bhidyate| prayogas tu- upalabdhilakṣaṇaprāpto gṛhe na dṛśyate jīvati
ca sa bahir bhavati| yathā yathoktaprakāro bahirupalabhyamāno yajñada-
ttaḥ| yathoktadharmakaś ca śabdāvagatasattāko devadatta iti svabhāvaḥ||

bahirbhāvapratītir bhavati anyathā śaśaviṣāṇasyāpi syāt| geha-
śabdas tu tatra vākye prayuktas tasya bahirbhāvaṁ gamayati||

gehaśabdasya prayoge hi vākyametan niyamavantamabhāvaṁ khyāpayati
tathāvidhārthavivakṣāyāmevaivaṁvidhavākyaprayogāt| yadāha- yadi tu gehe
bahiś ca na syāt nāstītyevocyeteti| tasmād vākyametadubha-
yamākṣipati gehābhāvaṁ ca bahirbhāvaṁ ca ekasyāpi niyamayogakhyāpa-
kasya dvitīyākṣepanāntarīyakatvāt| na tu kevalo'bhāvo bahirbhāvamā-
kṣipati niyamavāṁś ca na kevalaḥ niyamasyobhayarūpatvāt| tasmān
nāsti gehe caitra iti nābhava evocyate api tu bahiś ca bhāvaḥ|
tasmādarthāpattirevābhāva iti| yathā hi sthālyādikamantareṇa pāka-
sya niṣpattir na bhavatīti nāntarīyakatvāt sā tadākṣipati evaṁ pra-
tiṣedhaniyamavivakṣāyāṁ gṛhaśabdasya prayogo bahirbhāvamantareṇa na bhava-
tīti nāntarīyakatvāt sa tamākṣipati| tataś ca yathā pacatiḥ sthā-
lyāder liṅgam evamevaṁvidhavākyasamavāyī gehaśabdo'pi bahirbhāva-
syeti tata eva tadgatiḥ||

śabaras tvāha - abhāvo'pi pramāṇābhāvo nāstītyarthasyāsannikṛ-
ṣṭasyeti| pratyakṣādipramāṇapañcakābhāva indriyeṇāsannikṛṣṭasyārthasya
nāstītyabhāve niścayahetur bhavati| tasmādabhāvaḥ pramāṇamiti vā-
kyārthaḥ||

tamevānye'nupalabdhiśabdena vyapadiśantaḥ pramāṇāntaravādina ā-
huḥ-

upalabdhyā yayā yo'rtho jñāyate tadabhāvataḥ|
nāstitvaṁ jñāyate tasyānupalabdhiriyaṁ matā||

iti| atrāpi pramāṇābhāvo'gṛhīto vastvabhāvagrahaṇakāraṇaṁ na bhavati|
atha grahaṇāpekṣaḥ sa vastvabhāvagrahaṇe vyāpriyate anavasthā syāt|
yathā hi ghaṭābhāvaḥ pramāṇābhāvena gṛhyate tathā pramāṇābhāvo'pyapare-
ṇa so'pyapareṇetyanavasthitiḥ| ekasyāpi cāgrahaṇe sarveṣāmagrahaṇa-
miti kutas tasya prāmāṇyam| agṛhītasyāpīndriyavad grahaṇakāra-
ṇatvaṁ syāditi cet na abhāvasya sarvasāmarthyavirahalakṣaṇatvāt|

anyathā bhāva eva syāt arthakriyāsāmarthyalakṣaṇatvād bhāvasyeti
nābhāvaḥ pramāṇam||

tavāpi tarhyanupalabdhir na syāt pramāṇaṁ yathoktādeva doṣāt| naita-
dasti na hi mayaivaṁvidhānupalabdhiriṣyate api tu upalabdhilakṣaṇa-
prāptasyānupalabdhiḥ| upalabdhilakṣaṇaprāptirupalambhapratyayāntarasāka-
lyaṁ svabhāvaviśeṣaś ca  yaḥ svabhāvaḥ satsvanyeṣūpalambhapratyayeṣu san
pratyakṣa eva bhavati| tatropalabdhiḥ kartṛsthā vā kriyā syāt karmasthā
vā| pūrvakalpa upalabhamānasya dharmo jñānamupalabdhiḥ| tato'nyopala-
bdhiranupalabdhiḥ vivakṣitopalabdheranyatvādabhakṣyāsparśanīyavat| yadā
tu karmasthā kriyopalabdhiśabdenocyate tadopalabhyamānasyaiva dharmaḥ
svaviṣayajñānajananayogyatālakṣaṇa upalabdhir viṣayasvabhāva eva
yogyatāyā bhāvarūpatvāt| tasmādanya upalambhayogya eva tadekajñā-
nasaṁsṛṣṭasvabhāvo'nupalabdhiḥ| sa cāyaṁ yathopavarṇito dviprakāro'pya-
nupalambhaḥ pratyakṣeṇaiva sidhyatīti nāsmākaṁ yathoktadoṣasambhavaḥ||

bhavatu nāmaivaṁvidhānupalabdhiḥ pramāṇam| sā punaḥ kathamanumānam|
kathaṁ ca na syāt| dṛṣṭāntānapekṣaṇāt| na hyasyāṁ kaścid dṛṣṭānto
'sti| pramāṇasiddho hi dṛṣṭānto bhavati| anyathā yadyanupalabdhisiddha
eva dṛṣṭāntaḥ syāt evaṁ sati yathā ghaṭābhāvo dṛṣṭāntena sādhyate
tathā dṛṣṭānto'pi nirupākhyaṁ vyomakusumādyapareṇa dṛṣṭāntena sādhyeta|
so'pyapareṇetyanavasthā prasajyeta| atha dṛṣṭānto dṛṣṭāntena vināpi
sidhyati ghaṭābhāvo'pi sidhyet| tataś ca pramāṇāntaramevānupala-
bdhiḥ syāt dṛṣṭāntānapekṣaṇāditi||

naiṣa doṣaḥ| na hyapalambhenābhāvaḥ sādhyate| kiṁ tarhi| abhāvavya-
vahāraḥ| nimittaṁ hyasadvyavahārasyopalabhyānupalabdhiḥ| sā svasannidhā-
nāt svanimittamenaṁ sādhayatīti svanimittasāmagrībhāvī sarve'tra dṛ-
ṣṭāntaḥ| sadvyavahārapratiṣedhe'pi sādhye dṛśyānupalabdhyetarayā ca ni-
mittavaikalyābhāvino'ṅkurādayo'pi dṛṣṭāntaḥ na kevalaṁ nirupākhya-
meveti na pramāṇāntaratvaprasaṅgaḥ||

kiṁ punaḥ kāraṇamabhāva eva na sādhyate| bhedābhāvāt| tathā hi-
upalabdhireva dṛśyātmanāṁ sattā anupalabdhiś cāsattā| kathaṁ kṛtvā|

yadā tāvad yathoktā svaviṣayajñānajananayogyatopalabdhiḥ tadā yo-
gyatāyāḥ svabhāvabhūtatvādupalabdhiḥ satteti siddhametat| yadāpi kartṛ-
dharmo jñānamupalabdhiḥ tadāpi sā dṛśyasyārthasya sattānibandhanatvāt
tadvyāptyavyatirekābhyāṁ tatsvabhāvāviśiṣṭeti sattāvadupacārāt sattaiva|
tadevamubhayathāpyupalabdhiḥ sattā| tadabhāvaś cāsattā paryudāsavṛttyā
pūrvavat| saiva cānupalabdhiriti nāsti sādhyasādhanayor bhedaḥ| ten
nābhāvo'nupalabdhyā sādhyate| tasmān nimittopadarśanena nāstītya-
nupalabdherasadvyavahāraḥ sādhyate muḍhaṁ prati jananakhyātyā pitṛtvavat|
adṛśyānupalambhenāpi nimittābhāvād vyavahārapratiṣedha ajanana-
khyātyāpitṛtvavaditi||

yātra parapakṣapratiṣedhenetyādi| yaduktaṁ bhāṣyakāreṇa - parapakṣapra-
tiṣedhena svapakṣasiddhiriti tatpratiṣedhaḥ sāṅkhyīyāvītapratiṣedhādeva
kṛto veditavyaḥ ayamapyāvītaprayoga eveti kṛtveti||
