saddharmasmṛtyupasthānasūtra

(Second Chapter)


<1.1> punar api yogācāra ādhyātmike dharme dharmānupaśyī

viharati: katham anukrameṇāsravān prajahamānasya bhiksoḥ pratha-

mam akuśalān dharmān prajahāti, kuśalāṁś ca dharmān bhāvayati

sampaśyati saṁvicinoti manasā bhāvayati pratiṣṭhāpayati? sa paśyati śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā:


<1.2> sa bhikṣur ādita eva yair viṣayair indriyaiḥ parasparahetu-

pratyayabhūtaiḥ kṛtsnaṁ jagad anādikālapravṛttaṁ saṁsāre bhra-

mati, tam enaṁ janmanidānabhūtaṁ viṣayasamudram avalokayati:

"bāhyādhyātmikair viṣayair idaṁ jagad bhrāmyate|"


<1.3> sa ādita eva tāvad vivekābhirāmatām abhyasyati| vivikteṣv

araṇyavanāntarārāmapalāvapuñjavṛkṣamūlaśmaśāneṣu cittamarkaṭa-

bandhanārtham abhyasyati| vivekābhiratasya cittaṁ prasīdati| sa

grāmeṣu hasitaluḍitakrīḍiteṣu nābhiramate| na strīdarśanatatparo

bhavati, na saṅgaṇikābhiratir bhavati| dve gaṇike maye brahmaca-

ryasya: gaṇikā saṅgaṇikā ca| sa dve gaṇike prajahāty ādau, asyai-

kāgrataraṁ manaḥ prasīdati|


<1.4.1> sa sampratarkayati: "katham ādita eva śakyate cittaṁ saṅ-

kṣeptuṁ dhārayitum?" sa ādita eva paśyati: "aṣṭādaśair mano-

vyabhicārair manaḥ pratisarati kuśalākuśalāvyākṛtam|"


<1.4.2> katamair aṣṭādaśabhiḥ? tadyathā: cakṣuṣā rūpāṇi dṛṣṭvā, saumanasyasthānīyaṁ bhavati,  sāṅkleśikaṁ akuśalavipākaṁ bha-

vati, prativedayati sampratarkayate| daurmanasyasthānīyaṁ bhavati, 

virāgayati| tad asya kuśalavipākam| upekṣāsthānīyaṁ bhavati, 

avyākṛtavipākaṁ bhavati|

<1.4.3> evaṁ śrotreṇa śabdaṁ śrutvā, saumanasyasthānīyaṁ bhavati, sāṅkleśikam akuśalavipākam| dauramanasyasthānīyaṁ bhavati, vyavadānālambanaṁ kuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| upekṣāsthānīyaṁ bhavati, avyākṛtavipākaṁ bhavati|


<1.4.4> evaṁ ghrāṇena gandhān ghrātvā, saumanasyasthānīyaṁ

bhavati, sāṅkleśikam akuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| daurmanasyasthā-

nīyaṁ bhavati, vyavadānikaṁ kuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| upekṣāsthā-

nīyaṁ bhavati, avyākṛtavipākaṁ bhavati|


<1.4.5> evaṁ jihvayā rasān āsvādayitvā, saumanasyasthānīyaṁ

bhavati, sāṅkleśikam akuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| daurmanasyasthā-

nīyaṁ bhavati, vyavadānikaṁ kuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| upekṣāsthā-

nīyaṁ bhavati, avyākṛtavipākaṁ bhavati|


<1.4.6> evaṁ kāyena spraṣṭavyaṁ spṛṣṭvā, saumanasyasthānīyaṁ

bhavati, sāṅkleśikam akuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| daurmanasyasthā-

nīyaṁ bhavati, vyavadānikaṁ kuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| upekṣāsthā-

nīyaṁ bhavati, avyākṛtavipākaṁ bhavati|

<1.4.7> evaṁ manasā dharmāṅ jñātvā, saumanasyasthānīyaṁ

bhavati, sāṅkleśikam akuśalakarmavipākaṁ bhavati| daurmanasyasthā-

nīyaṁ bhavati, vyavadānikaṁ kuśalavipākaṁ bhavati| upekṣāsthānīyaṁ bhavati, avyākṛtavipākaṁ bhavati|

<1.4.8> evam aṣṭādaśamanovyabhicārais trivipākaiḥ saṁsāre cyutyupapattir bhavati|


<1.5.1> sa yadā bhikṣur aṣṭādaśamanovyabhicārān paśyati, tadāna-

nditatarā antarīkṣacarā yakṣā bhaumānāṁ yakṣānām abhiniveda-

yanti| bhaumāś cāntarīkṣacarā yakṣāś caturṇām mahārajñāṁ pra-

muditamanaso'bhinivedayanti| te catvāro mahārājānaś cāturmahā-

rājakāyikānāṁ devānāṁ nivedayanti: "yo'sau jambūdvīpāt kula-

putro amuṣmād grāmād amuṣmān nigramād amuṣmād viṣayād

amuṣmāt kulāt keśaśmāśrūṇy avatārya kāṣāyāṇi vāsāṁsy ācchādya,

śraddhayā āgārād anagārikāṁ pravrajitaḥ, so'ṣṭādaśamanovya-

bhicārān pratarkayati sākṣīkurute vivekābhirata ekāntacārī|"


<1.5.2> tac chrutvā caturṇāṁ mahārājñāṁ sakāśāt, ānanditatarā bhavanti

devāś cāturmahārājakāyikāḥ: "hīyate mārapakṣaḥ| abhyudd-

hriyate saddharmapakṣaḥ|"


<1.5.3> te devāś cāturmahārājakāyikās tridaśeśvarāya śakrāyābhini-

vedayanti: "yo'sau, deva, jambudvīpāt kulaputro .... yāvat....

amukāt kulāt keśaśmaśrūṇy avatārya kāṣāyāṇi vāsāṁsy ācchādya,

śraddhayā agārād anagārikāṁ pravrajitaḥ, sa viviktābhirato bhavati

.... yāvat ..... śmāśāṇiko'ṣṭādaśamanovyabhicārān pratarkayati,

sākṣīkṛtvopasampadya viharati|" tac ca śrutvā cāturmahārājakā-

yikānāṁ devānāṁ sakāśāt, prītataramanā bhavati devaḥ kauśikas 

tridaśeśvaraḥ|



<2.1> punar api yogācāra ādhyātmike dharme dharmānupaśyī viharati: sa bhikṣur aṣṭādaśamanovyabhicārān prapaśya kām anyāṁ

bhūmiṁ sākṣātkurute? sa paśyati śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā:


<2.2> catvāry adhiṣṭhānāni paśyati| tadyathā: prajñādhiṣṭhānaṁ

satyādhiṣṭhānaṁ tyāgādhiṣṭhānaṁ upaśamādhiṣṭhānam|


<2.3> kathaṁ bhikṣuḥ prajñādhiṣṭhānaṁ pratipadyate? iha bhikṣuḥ

svayam eva kā yaṁ yathāsthānaṁ saddharmatayā paśyati| taṁ

prajānīte, pravibhajya pratyavekṣate: "santy asmin kāye pṛthivī-

dhātur abdhātus tejodhātur vāyudhātur ākāśadhātur vijñānadhātuś ca|"


<2.4.1> tatra katamaḥ pṛthivīdhātuḥ? pṛthivīdhātur dvividhaḥ| asty ādhyātmiko'sti bāhyaḥ|


<2.4.2> tatrādhyātmikaḥ katamaḥ? yat kiñcid asmin kāye adhyā-

tmaṁ pratyātmam upagatam upāttaṁ tatropagataṁ tvaṅmāṁsādi-

samudayam upāttaṁ keśadantanakharomasamudayaṁ khakkha-

ṭaṁ kharagatam upagatam upādattam tat punaḥ katamam? yaduta:

" keśaromā nakhadantā rajas tvaṅmāṁsāsthi sirā snāyur hṛda-

yaṁ plīhā klomakaṁ vṛkkā yakṛt kheṭa āmāśayapakvāśayā antrāṇy

antraguṇā udaram udīrayakaṁ mastakaluṅgaṁ ceti|" yad vānyad

apy asmin kāye adhyātmaṁ pratyātmaṁ khakkhaṭaṁ kharagatam

upagatam upādattam; ayam ucyate ādhyātmikaḥ pṛthivīdhātuḥ|


<2.4.3> tatra kataro bahirdhaḥ pṛthivīdhātuḥ? yat kiñcid bahi-

rdhaṁ kakkhaṭatvaṁ kharagatam anupagatam anupādattam;

ayam ucyate bahirdhaḥ pṛthivīdhātuḥ|


<2.4.4> tatra yaś cādhyātmikaḥ pṛthivīdhātuḥ, yaś ca bahirdhaḥ, tad

ekadhyam abhisaṅkṣipya, " dhātur eṣa dhātumātram," na vedakā-

dhiṣṭhitam, na yādṛcchikaṁ pṛthivīdhātuṁ paśyati: " na nityam, na

sukham, na śucim, na sātmakaṁ vā paśyāmi|" sa bhikṣuḥ prajñā- 

dhiṣṭhānādhimuktiḥ: "sarvaṁ naitan me| naiṣo'ham asmi| naitan

mamātmeti|" evam etad yathābhūtaṁ samyakprajñayā dṛṣṭvā, pṛthi-

vīdhātutaś cittaṁ virajyate| evaṁ bhikṣuḥ prajñādhiṣṭhānādhi-

mukto bhavati|


<2.5.1> tatra kataro'bdhātuḥ? abdhātur api dvividhaḥ| asty

ādhyātmiko'sti bahirdho dhātuḥ|


<2.5.2> tatrādhyātmiko yat kiñcid asmin kāye āpo'bgataṁ bhavati

upapannalakṣaṇam abdhātuḥ kledasvābhāvyaṁ śarīre: "svedaḥ

kheṭaḥ siṅghāṇakaṁ mastakaṁ śoṇitaṁ vasā lasikā medo majjā

pittaṁ prasrāvaṁ mastakaluṅgaṁ ceti|" yad vā punar anyad asmin

kāye kiñcid asty adhyātmaṁ pratyā tmam āpo'bgatam

upagatam upādattam; ayam ucyate ādhyātmiko'bdhātuḥ|


<2.5.3> bahirdhaḥ katamaḥ? yat kiñcid bahirdham āpo'bgataṁ

snehaḥ snehagatam anupagatam anupādattam; ayam ucyate

bahirdho'bdhātuḥ|


<2.5.4> tatra yaś cādhyātmiko'bdhātuḥ, yaś ca bahirdhaḥ, tad

aikadhyam abhisaṅkṣipya," dhātur eṣa dhātumātram| sarvaṁ nai-

tan me| naiṣo'ham asmi| naitan mamātmeti," samyakprajñayā

dṛṣṭvā, abdhātutaś cittaṁ virajyate| evaṁ sa bhikṣuḥ prajñā-

dhiṣṭhānam ārohate|


<2.6.1> tatra kataras tejodhātuḥ? tejodhātur api dvividhaḥ| asty

ādhyātmiko'sti bahirdhaḥ|


<2.6.2> tatrādhyātmikas tejodhātur yat kiñcid asmin kāye adhyā-

tmaṁ pratyātmaṁ tejas tejogatam upagatam upādattam| sa punaḥ

kataraḥ? tadyathā: yena santapyate, yena ca paridahyate, yena ca

jvarīyate, yena cāśitapītakhāditāsvāditāni samyaksukhena pari-

ṇāmaṁ gacchanti| yad vā punar anyad apy asmin kāye adhyā-

tmaṁ pratyātmaṁ tejas tejogatam upagatam upādattam; ayam

ucyate ādhyātmikas tejodhātuḥ|


<2.6.3> tatra katamo bahirdhas tejodhātuḥ? yat kiñcid bahirdhaṁ

tejas tejogatam uṣṇam uṣṇagatam upagatam upādattam; ayam

ucyate bahirdhas tejodhātuḥ|


<2.6.4> tatra yaś cādhyātmikas tejodhātuḥ, yaś ca bahirdhaḥ, tad

ekadhyam abhisaṅkṣipya, " dhātur eṣa dhātumātram| sarvaṁ nai-

tan mama| naiṣo'ham asmi| naitan mamātmeti," evam etad yathā-

bhūtaṁ samyakprajñayā dṛṣṭvā, tejodhātutaś cittaṁ virajyate:

"nedaṁ kārakādhiṣṭhitam, na vedakādhiṣṭhitaṁ pravartate tejo-

dhātuḥ|"


<2.7.1> tatra kataro vāyudhātuḥ? vāyudhātur api dvividhaḥ| asty

ādhyātmiko'sti bahirdhaḥ|


<2.7.2> tatrādhyātmikaḥ kataraḥ? yat kiñcid asmin kāye adhyātmaṁ

pratyātmaṁ vāyur vāyugataṁ laghulaghusamudīraṇatvam upagatam

upādattam| tat punaḥ kataraḥ? ūrdhvagato vāyur adhogato vāyuḥ pā-

rśvagato vāyuḥ kukṣigato vāyus tathā pippalakāḥ sūcakāḥ śastrakā

vāyavo vātāṣṭhīlo vāyur aśītir vā vāyavaḥ saha krimisaṁvārair

aśītir aṅgamaṅgānusāriṇo vāyavaḥ| yad vā punar anyad apy asmin 

kāye adhyātmaṁ pratyātmaṁ vāyur vāyugataṁ laghusamudīra-

ṇatvam upagatam upādattam; ayam ucyate ādhyātmiko vāyudhātuḥ|

<2.7.3> tatra katamo bahirdho vāyudhātuḥ? yat kiñcid bahirdhaṁ

vāyur vāyugataṁ laghulaghusamudīraṇam anupagatam anupā-

dattam; ayam ucyate bahirdho vāyudhātuḥ|


<2.7.4> tatra yaś cādhyātmiko vāyudhātuḥ, yaś ca bahirdhaḥ, sarvam

abhisaṅkṣipya, "dhātur eṣa dhātumātram| sarvaṁ naitan mama|

naiṣo'ham asmi| naitan mamātmeti," na kārakādhiṣṭhitam, na

vedakādhiṣṭhitam etad yathābhūtaṁ samyakprajñayā dṛṣtvā, vāyu-

dhātutaś cittaṁ virāgayate| evaṁ prajñādhiṣṭhānaṁ sākṣībhavati

bhikṣuḥ|


<2.8.1> tatra katara ākāśadhātuḥ? ākāśadhātur api dvividhaḥ| asty ādhyātmiko'sti bāhyaḥ|


<2.8.2> tatrādhyātmiko yat kiñcid asmin kāye adhyātmaṁ praty-

ātmam ākāśa ākāśagatam upagatam upādattam asphuṭam aspha-

raṇīyarūpagatam, yenāśitapītakhādi tāsvāditāny avakāśenāntar-

gacchanti| yad vā punaḥ kaṇṭhaśuṣiram eva śrotraśuṣiraṁ cakṣu-

śuṣiraṁ ghrāṇaśuṣiraṁ jihvāśuṣiraṁ āhārasyāntargataṁ jihvāva-

kāśadātṛ; ayam ucyate adhyātmika ākāśadhātuḥ|


<2.8.3> tatra kataro bahirdha ākāśadhātuḥ? yat kiñcid ākāśagatam

anupagatam anupādattam asphuṭam aspharaṇīyam| tadyathā: vṛkṣa-

śākhāntaraśuṣirāṇi parvatāntarāśuṣirāṇi kandaraguhānadīśuṣirāṇi yad

vā bāhiraṁ śuṣiram asti; ayam ucyate bahirdha ākāśadhātuḥ|

<2.8.4> tatra yaś cādhyātmikarūpagata ākāśadhātuḥ, yaś ca bahi-

rdhaḥ, tad aikadhyam abhisaṅkṣipya, "dhātur eṣa dhātumātram|

sarvaṁ naitan mama| naiṣo'ham asmi| naitan mamātmeti," evam

etad yathābhūtaṁ samyakprajñayā dṛṣṭvā ākāśadhātutaś cittaṁ

virajyate| evaṁ dṛṣṭvā, na prapadyate| "'sarvaṁ naitan mama|

naiṣo'ham asmi| naitan mamātmeti|' na kārakādhiṣṭhitam, na

vedakādhiṣṭhitam," ākāśadhātutaś cittaṁ virajyate|


<2.9> tatra kataro manodhātuḥ? manodhātur dvādaśabhir āya-

tanair saṁyuktaḥ| cakṣurvijñānānubhūtam arthaṁ manovijñā-

nenānubhavati| evaṁ śrotraghrāṇajihvākāyamanovijñānāni manovi-

jñānadhātuprabhavāni manomūlāni|

manaḥpūrvaṅgamā dharmā manaḥśreṣṭhā manojavāḥ|

manasā suprasannena bhāṣate vā karoti vā|

nirdhūtapāpakalmāṣaś cyutyupapattivijānakaḥ|

karmaṇām phalatattvajñaḥ prāpnoti padam acyutam|| <2.10.1>


sarvendriyavidhātā yaḥ sarvabhūtahite rataḥ|

śānto dāntendriyaḥ svastho bhikṣur bhavati tādṛśaḥ|| <2.10.2>

ṣaḍindriyarathārūḍho rāgaśatrunivartakaḥ|

prājño dhīraḥ kriyāvān yaḥ sa śāntaṁ padam āpnute|| <2.10.3>


araṇyavāsī santuṣṭo bhūmiśāyī samāhitaḥ|

dhunoti pāpakān dharmān vāyur meghān ivāmbare|| <2.10.4>


śubhavāgdehakarmāntaḥ śubhacaryāsu saṁrataḥ|

tattvadṛṣṭiḥ kriyādakṣo nāśayen mārasādanam|| <2.10.5>


rāgādayo na bādhante śubhacittam alolupam|

maitryākāruṇyabahulaṁ bhikṣur nairyāṇike sthitaḥ|| <2.10.6>


yasya rūpā dayo neṣṭā viṣayā bandhahetavaḥ|

sa yāti paramāṁ śāntiṁ yatra gatvā na śocate|| <2.10.7>

<3.1> punar api yogācāra ādhyātmike dharme dharmānupaśyī

viharati: kim asau bhikṣuḥ prathamam aṣṭādaśamanovyabhicāra-

bhūmyantarāt prathamād dvitīyaṁ bhūmyāntaram ārūḍhaḥ ṣaḍ-

dhātutattvajñabhūmim idānīṁ kindharmānusmṛtibhūmin ākramet?

sa paśyati śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā:

<3.2>  tṛtīyaṁ bhūmyantaram ākrāmati sa bhikṣuḥ tattvadarśī|

kataraṁ bhūmyantraram? cittapuraḥṣa rabhūmyantaram| sa

sukham utpadyamānaṁ vijānāti| duḥkham utpadyamānaṁ vijānāti|

saumanasyaṁ jānāti| daurmanasyaṁ jānāti| upekṣāṁ vijānāti|


<3.3.1> kiṁ sukhaṁ vijānāti? sukhavedanīyaṁ sparśaṁ pratītyo-

tpadyate sukhā vedanā| asau sukhāṁ vedanāṁ vedayamānaḥ, "sukhavedanāṁ vindāmīti" yathābhūtaṁ prajānāti| atha tasya sukha-

vedanīyasya sparśasya nirodhadhātuḥ| sukhavedanīyaṁ sparśaṁ

pratītyotpannāṁ vedanāṁ vedayamānaḥ, "sukhā me vedanā

staṅgatā," astaṅgatāṁ vedanāṁ pratyabhijānīte| "vyupaśāntā me

sukhā vedanā| duḥkhā me vedanā utpannā," pratītyasamutpannāṁ

tāṁ duḥkhavedanāṁ pratyabhijānīte|


<3.3.2> " utpannā me sukhā vedanā" pratyabhijānīte sadbhūto vista-

reṇa yathaiva sukhavedanīyaḥ sparśo vihitaḥ, tathaiva duḥkha-

vedanīye'pi vācyaḥ|


<3.3.3> kiṁ saumanasyaṁ vijānāti? "saumanasyasthānīyaṁ

sparśaṁ pratītyotpannaṁ saumanasyam|" kathaṁ daurmanasyaṁ

pratyabhijānīte? "daurmanasyasthānīyaṁ sparśaṁ pratītyotpa-

nnaṁ daurmanasyam|" atha tasyaiva saumanasyasthānīyāṁ veda-

nāṁ yathāvad anupaśyataḥ, saumanasyasthānīyaṁ nirodhaṁ dṛṣṭvā,

saumanasyād virajyate: "yā sā me saumanasyavedanā prāg utpannā,

sā naṣṭā śāntā vyupagatā|" tato'sya vairāgyam utpadyate, yathā- bhūtaṁ prativedayati|


<3.3.4-5> evaṁ dauramanasye'pi vācayam| upekṣāyām apy evaṁ vācyam|


<3.4> tasyāsya tṛtīyaṁ bhūmyantaram ākramato nanditatarā bhaumā

yakṣā antarī kṣacarāṇāṁ yakṣāṇām abhinivedayanti| te'pi catu-

rṇāṁ mahārājñām abhinivedayanti| te'pi cāturmahārājikānāṁ

devānāṁ abhinivedayanti| te'pi kauśikaśakrasya devānām indra-

syābhinivedayanti: "yo'sau jambūdvīpād amuṣmād viṣayād

amuṣmād grāmād amuṣmāt kulād amuko nā ma kulaputraḥ keśa-

śmaśrūṇy avatārya kāṣāyāṇi vāsāṁsy ācchādya, śraddhayā āgārād

anagārikāṁ pravrajitaḥ, sa tṛtīyabhūmyantaram ārūḍha icchati

māreṇa saha yoddhum| hīyate mārapakṣaḥ| abhyuddhriyate sad-

dharmapakṣaḥ|"

<3.5> tac ca śrutvā, prītataramanāḥ kauśikaḥ śakro devānām indra

airāvaṇam āruhya, maharddhikapramukhaṁ devagaṇaṁ gṛhya,

yāmānāṁ devānāṁ nivedayati: "jambudvīpāt kulaputro... vista-

reṇa yāvat .... tṛtīyaṁ bhūmyantaram ārūḍha icchati māreṇa

saha yoddhum| hīyate mārapakṣaḥ| abhyuccīyate saddharmapakṣaḥ|"


<3.6> tac ca śrutvā sākrasya devānām indrasya sakāśāt, prītatara-

manaso yāmā devā bhavanti|

<4.1.1> punar api yogācāra ādhyātmike dharme dharmānupaśyī

viharati: kathaṁ sa bhikṣus tṛtīyabhūmayantarāc caturthaṁ ca

bhūmyantaram avagāhati? sa paśyati śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā:


<4.1.2> sa caturthabhūmyantram ākrāmati: " sparśapratyayā me sukhā vedanotpannā sukhahetukā sukhanidānā sukhāpra-

tyayā| sā niruddhā vyupaśāntāntarhitā| tasyāḥ samanantaraṁ me duḥkhā vedanā utpannā duḥsparśā duḥkhanidānā duḥkhasamudayā

duḥkhā eva duḥkhapratyayā|"


<4.1.3> evaṁ sparśapratyayāṁ vedanāṁ pratyabhijānīte: kṣaṇe

kṣaṇe mamotpadyate vedanā sparśasahāyā sparśaprabhavā|" sa

sukhāyāṁ vedanāyāṁ na hṛṣyate na saṁrajyate| tāṁ vedanāṁ

nābhinandati na bahulīkurute nāsvādayati| evaṁ duḥkhāyām api

vedanāyāṁ na pīḍya te na viheṭhyate nāvilīkriyate|


<4.1.4> upekṣakaḥ sa viharati smṛtimān samprajānakaḥ| imābhis

tisṛbhir vedanābhir yadātyantikaṁ cittaṁ viraktaṁ bhavati, atha

param upekṣaṇaivāvaśiṣṭā bhavati, supariśuddhā bhavati supary-

vāsī vā suparikarmakṛtaṁ jātarūpaṁ viditvā, yatrākāṅkṣate'piba-

yadi vā keyūrāya yadi vā cakṣuṣi śobhāyai yadi vā pustakaśo-

bhāyai yadi vā hastaśobhāyai yadi vāṅguliśobhāyai yadi vāṅgu-

leyakamudrāyai yadi vā jātarūpamālāyai yadi vā mukuṭālaṅkā-

rāya- yatra yatropanāmayati, tatra tatraiva karmaṇyaṁ bhavati|

boddhavyā| na nityālambanā, ākāśānantyātanālambanā vijñānāna-

ntyāyatanālambanā ākiñcanyāyatanālambanā naivasañjñānāsañjñā-

yatanālambanā| upekṣāvyañjitam etat, śivam etat, upekṣāhitam

<4.1.8.3> śrotrasaṁsparśajāyāṁ vedanāyāṁ tasyāṁ niruddhāyāṁ

ghrāṇālambanā vedanā utpadyate| sa tāṁ ghrāṇasamutthāṁ veda-

nāṁ prativedayati: "utpannā me ghrāṇasaṁsparśajā vedanā,

nirudhyamānām| yathā pradīpaprabhādityaprabhayā viruddhā, ity evaṁ vedanādvayaṁ nirudhyate|


<4.2.4> punar api vedanāṁ kuśalākuśalām puṣyamāṇāṁ prati-

vedayate| tadyathā dīpaprabhā dvitīyāṁ dīpaprabhāṁ puṣṇāti|


<4.2.5> punar api vedanāṁ pravicinoti: "kā vedanānyayā saha veda-

nayātyantaviruddhā?" sa paśyati: "kuśalā vedanākuśalayā vedanayā

sahātyantaviruddhā| tadyathā dīpaprabhā nakṣatraprabhayā saha vi-

ruddhā|"


<4.2.6> punar api sa bhikṣuḥ pravibhajati: " kā vedanānyāṁ

vedanām atyantam eva hanti? sa paśyati: " anāsravālambanā

vedanā sāsravālambanāṁ vedanāṁ atyantam eva hanti| tadyathā-

gniprabhayā himaprabhā hanyate|"

<4.2.7> "kā vedanā kayā vedanayābhibhūtā punar evāpyāyate?" sa

paśyati: "akuśalā vedanā yadā kuśalāṁ vedanām abhibhavati, sā 

punar evāpyāyate| yathādityena divā candraprabhābhibhūtā bhavati,

sā candraprabhā rātrāv āpyāyate|"


<4.2.8> punar api sa bhikṣur vedanāṁ pravibhajati vedanaikāgra-

smṛtiḥ: "kā bahvyo vedanāḥ sampṛktāḥ kayā ekayā vedanayā

saha viruddhābhibhūyante?" sa paśyati: "bahvyo vedanā laukika-

kriyā lokottarayānāsravayā vedanayābhibhūyante| tadyathā rātrau

bahvyo nakṣatragrahatārāṇāṁ prabhā ekayā candraprabhayābhi-

bhūyante|"


<4.2.9> punar api sa bhikṣur vedanānupaśyī kṣayavyayānupaśyī

vedanāṁ sūkṣmataram avalokayati: " kā bahvyo vedanāś cakṣuḥ-

śrotraghrāṇajihvā kāyasamutthāḥ sāsravāḥ kiṁ kuśalam āra-

bhante? sa paśyati: " laukikāḥ sāsravā vedanā bahvyo'pi

nānāsravālokanasamarthā bhavanti| yathā rātrau nakṣatragraha-

tārāṇāṁ prabhāś candravirahān nālokanasamarthā bhavanti|"

vasthāyinyo mama vedanāḥ?" sa paśyati: "utpādavyayakṣaṇāva-

<4.2.11> punar api sa bhikṣur evaṁ pravitarkayati: " kiṁ cakṣur-

vedanā ghrāṇavedanāyāḥ pratyaṁśaṁ prayacchati?" sa paśyati: "budbudakālādibhinnendriyālambanā vedanā sarveṣām indri-

yāṇām| tadyathā gauraśvoṣṭrakharamahiṣāṇāṁ bhinnajātīyānāṁ

naikapratyayo bhavati, evam eva pañcendriyasamutthānām anādi-

viracitānāṁ naikālambanaṁ bhavati| viṣayabhedena bhinnaviṣa-

yānīndriyāṇi, yathā gauraśvoṣṭrakharamahiṣavarāhāḥ|"


<4.2.12> tasyaivaṁ vedanānupaśyino bhikṣoḥ sūkṣmataraṁ jñānam

utpadyate| sa taṁ jñānam āsevate bhāvayate bahulīkaroti|


<4.2.13> tasyāsevamānasya vedanānupaśyinaḥ kṣayavyayānupaśyina

evaṁ bhavati: "cakṣuḥśrotraghrāṇajihvākāyamanaḥsamutthā me ve-

danāḥ kuto'bhyāgacchamānā āgacchanti? nirudhyamānā vā kutra 

sannicayaṁ gacchanti ?"

<4.2.14> tasya bhikṣor vedanākṣayavyayānupaśyinaḥ pracintayato

mārgagatasyaivaṁ bhavati: "nāpi cakṣurvedanā kutaścid utpa-

iti cakṣurvedanā abhūtvā bhavati| bhūtvā ca prativigacchati| nāka-

<4.2.15> "tadyathā kuśalaḥ kumbhakāraḥ kumbhakārāntevāsī vā

cakraṁ ca pratītya, mṛtpiṇḍaṁ ca pratītya, vyāyāmaṁ ca pratītya, 

udakaṁ ca pratītya, mṛtpiṇḍahetuko ghaṭa utpadyate| tatra

sa ghaṭo na kutaścid āgacchati ākarāt| na nirudhyamānaḥ kvacit

sannicayaṁ gacchati| iti ghaṭo hetupratyayasamutpannaḥ| evaṁ me

cakṣuḥ pratītya, rūpaṁ pratītyālokaṁ pratītyākāśaṁ pratītya, mana-

aduḥkhāsukhā| yathā ghaṭasya yadi śobhanā hetupratyayā bhavanti,

tac chobhanasyaiva ghaṭasyotpādo bhavati| athāśobhanāḥ, tadā-

śobhano ghaṭo bhavati| evam eva yadi śobhanā hetupratyayāla-

sadharmasahīyāḥ kuśalāḥ, anukrameṇa nirvāṇagāminyaḥ| yathā-

<4.2.16> sarvakarmaphalakuśalānubaddhacetano bhikṣuḥ vedanām

anveṣamāṇaḥ, naikāśritāṁ vedanāṁ paśyati, na kārakādhiṣṭhitām,

nāpi hetusamutthām, na yādṛcchikām, na kūṭasthām, na nityām, na dhruvām, na śāśvatām, nāvipariṇāmadharmiṇīm| tasya sā veda-

nāskandhadarśinas tṛṣṇā paunarbhavikī parihīyate, nandīrāgasaha-

<4.2.17> sarvasaṁskārasyānityā nupaśyī sa bhikṣur mārgam

āsevate bhāvayati bahulīkurute| tasyaivaṁ bhāvayataḥ, saṁyojanāni prahīyante, anuśayā vāntībhavanti|


<4.2.18> katamāni saṁyojanāni? tadyathā: anunayasaṁyojanaṁ

pratighasaṁyojanaṁ mānasaṁyojanam avidyāsaṁyojanaṁ dṛṣṭisaṁ-

vaparivartakās tribhūmisañcāriṇas tridoṣaparivartakās trikālānu-

<4.2.20> punar api sa yogācāra ādhyātmike dharme dharmānupaśyī

viharati: kathaṁ sa bhikṣuś cakṣuṣa evaṁ sahetupratyayam ava-

budhyate? kimpratyayaṁ cakṣuḥ, kiṁhetujaṁ kinnidānaṁ avalo-

kayati? sa paśyati śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā:


<4.2.21> karmahetujaṁ cakṣuḥ| karmaṇā janmābhinivartyate| yathā

vaṭakaṇikayā vṛkṣo bhavati| vṛkṣāt punar vaṭakaṇikā yā  hetu-

pratyayaiḥ saṁvardhate| evam evājñānāt karmābhinivartyate|

karmaṇāpi janmābhinivartyate| sati janmani jarāmaraṇaśokapari-

devaduḥkhadauramanasyopāyāsā utpadyante| tadevam ayaṁ karma-

hetutṛṣṇāpāśabaddhaḥ sarvabālapṛthagjanasamudro bhavati| cakravat

paribhramate| tad etat kāraṇam, ayaṁ pratyayaḥ, sarvāsāṁ vedanānāṁ

<4.2.23> tadyathā jātarūpakāro jātarūpam upādāya, karmaṇyaṁ 

karmakṣamaṁ ca tac ca jātarūpam ādāya, śobhanam alaṅkāra-

jātam abhinivartayati| evam eva jātarūpakārasamo yogācāraḥ| sa

jātarūpasadṛśam ālambanam ādāya, yadi śobhanam ālambanaṁ

bhavati, tac chobhanaṁ karmābhinivartayati nirvāṇagāmikam|

dharmāyatanatattvadarśī dharmāyatanam avalokayati? sa paśyati
śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā:

<7.4> svakarmadharmavipākaṁ yathāvat paśyan sa bhikṣuḥ
vitarkayan, parebhyaḥ śṛṇvan, māraviṣayagatānāṁ sattvānāṁ carya-
yāsamaṁ carati| nirvāṇaparyavasāyinyā caryayā carati nirvedikayā
kalyāṇayā satatodyuktayā saṁsāraparyavasānayuktayā'nugrahatayā
pareṣām, yathā: "ātmānaṁ cāhaṁ tārayeyaṁ saṁsārāt, dā-
yakān dānapatīṁś ca|"

<7.5> sa karmadharmavipākajño bhikṣur narakapretatiryagdeva-
manuṣyāṇāṁ karmadharmavipākaṁ tarkayati vigaṇayati| tadyathā
svacchasya prasannasya vaidūryamaṇer antarā sūtrikā, nīlā vā
haridrā vā māñjiṣṭā vā śuklā vā, yathā sadbhūtā vā dṛśyate| evam
eva karmamaṇer vipākasūtrikā madhyagatā yā, tām asau bhikṣuḥ
paśyati śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā viśuddhena|

<7.6.1> punar api sa bhikṣuḥ śrutamayena jñānena sa paśyati maṇivat
karmadharmavipākam: "tadyathā hi kaścin maṇir bhavati śuklo
'vadātaḥ samantataḥ prasanno nirvraṇaḥ svaccho vedhanakṣamaḥ
karmaṇyaḥ samantato dvārabhūtaḥ sarvajanaprāśaṁsyo dhanyo
rājārhaḥ| tam evaṁvidhaguṇayuktaṁ maṇiṁ rājā vā rāja mātro
vāsyāṁ guṇābhijñaḥ samūlyābhijño bhūtvā, svālaṅkārāyāvabadh-
nīyāt|"

<7.6.2> evam eva sa bhikṣuḥ: "śuklapakṣe daśakuśalakarmapatham
imaṁ maṇim, samantato avadātaṁ suprasannaṁ nirvraṇaṁ nira-
vadyaṁ svaccham; vedhanakṣamaṁ dharmapakṣapratipakṣākṣepa-
praśnapratipraśnadharmaśalākānāṁ vedhanakṣamam; karma-

rasya yogyaḥ, pratipannānāṁ vā| iti vaidūryamaṇeś ca sarvaguṇopa-
pannasya saddharmamaṇeś caitatsādharmyam upalabhata" iti|

<7.7.1> punar api sa bhikṣuḥ karmadharmavipākaṁ samanupaśyati
maṇivad eva: "tadyathānyo maṇiḥ savraṇo bhavati, na sarvāccho
na sarvadvāriko na śuklo na vedhanakṣamo na karmaṇyo na 
sarvajanaprāśaṁsyo na yogyo rājño vā rājamātrasya vā|

bhikṣuḥ: "maṇisadṛśā maṇayo bhavanti| tadyathā vaidūryasadṛśaṁ
kāñcanamaṇiṁ dṛṣṭvā, 'vaidūryam' iti manyate bālapṛthag-
janaḥ|"

<7.8>  sa bhikṣur dharmādharmaparīkṣātattvajñaḥ saptamaṁ bhūmy-
antaram ārohati| tam ārūḍhaṁ vratinaṁ dṛṣṭvā, hṛṣṭā bhaumā yakṣā
antarīkṣacarāṇāṁ devānām abhinivedayanti| te'pi caturṇāṁ mahā-
rājñām, te'pi cāturmahārājakāyikānāṁ devānām, te'pi trida-
śānām, te'pi śakrasya, śakro yāmānām, yāmās tuṣitānām, tuṣitā api
maitreyasya, maitreyo'pi devānāṁ nirmāṇaratīnām, nirmāṇa-
ratayo'pi paranirmitavaśavartinām: "amukaḥ kulaputro jambū-

ṅgāsthīni śarīram, ahaṁ vā| na mukhagatāny asthīni śarīram, ahaṁ
vā| na kapālagatāny asthīni śarīram, ahaṁ vā," sampravibhajya,
bhikṣur arthāntarabhūtaṁ śarīraṁ na paśyati, nāpy ekaikena śarī-
raṁ paśyati, nāpi vibhaktaṁ śarīraṁ paśyati| na cakṣuḥśrotra-
ghrāṇajihvākāyamanāṁsi śarīraṁ ātmanaḥ, nāpy adhyā-
tmānaṁ teṣu| pṛthakparamāṇuśaḥ śarīraṁ pravibhajati, sa-
rṣapamātraṁ cūrṇasadṛśam ātmanaḥ śarīraṁ paśyati| sa mahā-

bhūtāni vibhajati: "ko'ham? kiṁ pṛthivīdhātur aham, abdhātur
aham, tejodhātur aham, vāyudhātur aham? sa nātmānaṁ dhātum

paśyati paramārthataḥ: "tadyathānekavṛkṣasa mudāyaṁ vanaṁ
paśyati| naikena vṛkṣeṇa vanam asti| na paramārthato vanaṁ nāma|
vṛkṣavinirmuktaṁ na vanam asti| vṛkṣo'pi tvaṅmūla-

pāṇyādisamudayamātreyaṁ sañjñā| saṁvṛtitaḥ śarīraṁ idam|" sa
traccharīradharmatattvajñaḥ śarīrād virajyate, śarīrapratyaṅgebhyo
'pi virajyate, sarvendriyavedanādhātubhyo'pi virajyate|
viraktasya cittasya nandīrāgasahagatā tṛṣṇā paunarbhavikī na
bādhate| evaṁ rāgapratipakṣe prayatate|

<7.21.3> kathaṁ dveṣasya pratipakṣe prayatate? sa maitrīpraty-
upasthito bhavati: "kṛcchraṁ vateme sattvāḥ, yaduta: yannāma
jāyante mriyante'pi cyavante'py upapadyante pañcasu gatiṣu

pañcabhayāpannāḥ!" tān pratimṛtakopamān mātṛvat kāruṇyam
utpadyate: "kathaṁ evaṁduḥkhitānāṁ sattvānāṁ punaḥ kṣate kṣāra-
nibhaṁ krodhaṁ kuryāt prakṛtiduḥkhiteṣu sattveṣu?" sa dvi
tīyaṁ mahākleśaṁ vadhan prativadhan viharati|

<7.21.4> punar api sa bhikṣuḥ kathaṁ tṛtīyamahākleśapratipakṣe pra-
yatate?" "mohenāvṛtāḥ sattvāḥ kāyaduścaritaṁ caranti, vāgdu-
caritaṁ caranti, manoduścaritaṁ caranti| kāyasya bhedād apāya-
vinipāte narakeṣūpapadyante| yadā tu moharahitā bhavanti sam-
yagdṛṣṭipuraḥsarāḥ, tadā kāyasucaritaṁ vāksucaritaṁ manaḥsu-
caritaṁ caranti, dharmādharmatattvajñā bhavanti| yadā caiṣāṁ dha-
rmādharmatattvajñānavijñānaṁ bhavati, tadā mahākleśasya tṛtī-
yasyābhāvo bhavati|"

<7.22> sa bhikṣuḥ: "evaṁ trayāṇāṁ kleśānāṁ trayaḥ pratipakṣā
bhavanti| tannāśāt sarvakleśopakleśasaṁyojanānuśayapratyava-

sthānāṁ nāśo bhavati| yathā vṛkṣasya mūlanāśāt tvaṅmūlapa-

rasāsvādenāpahṛtaḥ| sa tasmād vṛkṣāt, aprāpya tāni phalāni, prapatet| sa jīvitaṁ jahyāt| atha kenacid anyenopāyena prā-
kṛtena vā karmaṇā na prapatena, sākalyena rasarāgena baddho
bālabuddhir bahutaram ādīnavaṁ na paśyati|"

<9.3>  evam eva sa bhikṣuḥ paśyati: "vanāntaravivarasamāni pañca-
gativivarāṇi sarvakleśasamāni mahacchvabhrāṇi| 'kharjūrīvṛkṣa'
iti kāmavṛkṣasyaitad adhivacanam| anekāsamaśatāni pratyeka-
kleśaśatasahasrāṇām etatparyeṣaṇāduḥkhānām etad adhivacanam|
'vṛkṣaprānte sthitāni phalānīti' sarvakāmaviṣaktabuddhīnām
iṣṭaśabdasparśarasarūpagandhānām etad adhivacanam| 'duṣprā-
pyāṇīti' duṣprāpyāṇi bhavanti kāmaphalāni, tadyathā: samudra-
praveśena śastrasambhrameṇa rājasevācauryavāṇijyādikleśair
cāpyante| kāmaphalopamāni 'bahudoṣānīti' rāgadveṣamohā-
nām etad adhivacanam| 'śvabhraprapatana' iti naraka triyakpre-
taśvabhrānām etad adhivacanam| 'jīvitasaṁśayo bhavati'
dharmajīvitasyaitad adhivacanam| 'koṭaradoṣa' iti śūnyasya ṛkta-
kasya tucchakasyāsārakasyaitad adhivacanam| 'puruṣa āgacchen

mūḍha'ti bālasya mithyādṛṣṭikasyaitad adhivacanam|" tasmād aneka-
doṣabhūyiṣṭhapahalopamān kāmān alpasvādān dṛṣṭvā, sa bhikṣuḥ 
sarvakāmān na saṅkalpayati|

<9.4> punar api sa bhikṣur agniśikhopamān kāmān paśyati:
"yathā hi dīpe dṛṣṭiramaṇīye paramatīkṣṇasparśe| pataṅgo mūḍhaḥ
paśyed ramaṇīyaṁ pradīpam| sa tasmin pradīpe prapatet, sa
vināśam āpnuyāt| evam eva rāgadveṣamohāvṛtāḥ pataṅgā bāla-
pṛthagjanāḥ sarvakāmaramaṇīyāni paśyanti pradīpasadṛśāni| iti
yadi tasmin kāmapradīpe prapatanti, te pataṅgasadṛśā dahyante
narakapretatiryakṣu|" tasmād "alam kāmair!" iti sa bhikṣur
virajyate kāmebhyaḥ|

<9.5> punar api sa bhikṣu ādhyātmike dharme dharmānupaśyī viha-
rati: "kair bandhanair baddhāḥ sattvāḥ sandhāvanti saṁsaranti
saṁsāre?"

<9.6.1> sa paśyati śrutamayena jñānena divyena vā cakṣuṣā: "dvā-
bhyāṁ bandhanābhyāṁ baddho'yaṁ lokaḥ: āhārabandhanena
sparśabandhanena ca|

<9.6.2> "tatrāhārabandhanena caturvidhena: kabaḍikāhāreṇa manaḥ-
sañcetanāhāreṇa dhyānāhāreṇa sparśāhāreṇa ca|

<9.6.3> "kabaḍikāhārāḥ katamāḥ? yaduta: catvāraḥ puruṣāvāsāḥ,
ṣaṭ kāmāvacarā devāḥ, aṣṭau mahānarakāḥ, ekatyā api ca pretās
tiryañcaḥ|

<9.6.4> "manaḥsañcetanāhārā matsyās tadvidhāḥ|

<9.6.5> "dhyānāhārā rūpāvacarā devāḥ|

<9.6.6> "sparśāhārāḥ pakṣiṇaḥ, cakṣuḥśravāḥ, cānye tadvidhāḥ
sparśamaithunavipralabdhāḥ|

<9.6.7> "sarva eva bālapṛthagjanāḥ kāmadhātau manuṣyapretatiryaṅ-
narakeyā yo'yaṁ kāmasevanāt kāmadhātur bhavati|

<9.6.8> "ārūpyās tu samāpattisamālambanāhārāḥ|

<9.6.9> "tadevam ayaṁ dvābhyāṁ baddho lokaḥ| so virāgān na mucyate sarvasaṁyojanānuśa yabhandhenebhyaḥ|"

<9.7.1> asau anyena prakāreṇa cakṣur yathābhūtaṁ paśyati cakṣur-
vijñeyāṇy api rūpāṇi| yad api tac cakṣusaṁsparśanād utpadyate
sukhasthānīyaṁ sukhālambanam asukhavipākaṁ karma, tad api
yathābhūtaṁ prajānāti| evaṁ daurmanasyasthānīyaṁ cakṣurvi-
jñeyaṁ yad api tac cakṣuḥsaṁsparśajam utpadyate duḥkhā-
lambanaṁ sukhavipākaṁ karma, tad api yathābhūtaṁ prajānāti|
katarat tac cakṣurvijñeyaṁ rūpaṁ sukhālambanam asukhavipākam?
ihadharme dharmānupaśyī, ādhyātmikeṣu dharmeṣu, cakṣuṣā
rūpam ayoniśomanaskāry ālambanaṁ paśyati nidhyāpayaty āsvā-

dayati| "sukham" iti prajānite| pariṇāmena duḥkhavipākaṁ nara-
kapretatiryakṣaṁvartanīyam bhavati| katarat tat karma pratyut-
pannāsukhavipāki vipariṇāmena sukhavipāki? iha cakṣurvi-
jñeyāni rūpāni dṛṣṭvā, cakṣuḥsaṁsparśajayoniśomanaskārābhimu-
khacitto na tatra saṁrajyate, na mano vidadhāti| tad asya pratyut-
pannaduḥkhavipākaṁ bhavati, pariṇāmasukhaṁ devamanuṣyo-
papattaye nirvāṇaparyavasānaṁ ca bhavati|

<10.1> punar api yogācāra ādhyātmike dharme dharmānupaśyī
viharati: kathaṁ sa bhikṣuś cakṣurvijñeyeṣu rūpeṣu upekṣako
viharati? iha bhikṣuś cakṣuṣā rūpāni dṛṣṭvā, na saṁrajyate na
virajyate na vilokayati na nindati na spṛhayati na manasikurute|
nāyoniśomanasikāreṇāvṛto bhavati| upekṣako bhavati| sa upekṣā-
sthānīyaṁ sthānaṁ upalabhate, na duḥkhasukhasthānīyam|

<10.2> punar api sa bhikṣur daśamaṁ bhūmyantaram ākrāmati
ṣaḍbhūmivikārabhūtam, tadyathānāgamyaprathamadhyānabhūmya-
ntaraṁ catvāri dhyānāni| saḍbhūmivikāram ākrāmati| sa paśyati
dharmāṇām udayavyayam, dharmāṇām udayavyayaṁ jānāti|
nirodhagāminīpratipadāryāṣṭāṅgena mārgeṇa nirvāṇadvāram avaga-
ntuṁ samprāptaye ca prayatati|

<10.3> tasyaivaṁ prayatamānasya mārabandhanāni bhūyiṣṭhaji-
hmāni dṛṣṭvā, hṛṣṭā bhaumā yakṣā antarīkṣacarāṇāṁ yakṣāṇām
abhinivedayanti| te'pi caturṇṇāṁ mahārājñāṁ abhinivedayanti| te
'pi cāturmahārājakāyikānāṁ devānām abhinivedayanti| cātur-
mahārājakāyikā api tridaśāṇāṁ, tridaśā api yāmānām, yāmā api
tuṣitānām, tuṣitā api nirmāṇaratīnām, nirmāṇaratayaḥ paranirmita-
vaśavartināṁ, paranirmitavaśavartino brahmakāyikānām abhini-
vedayanti yathā: "jambhūdvīpāt kulaputro ....... vistareṇa pūrva-
vad yāvat ..... aṣṭamaṁ bhūmyantaram ārūḍhaḥ, antargataś ca ṣaḍ
bhūmayaḥ, tāṁ cārūḍhaḥ|"

<10.4> tataś ca śrutvā, paramahṛṣṭā brahmakāyikā devā hitvā 
dhyānasukhavihāram, tadā bhūtaṁ śrutvā, hṛṣṭatarā bhavanti|

śubhānām aśubhānāṁ ca karmaṇāṁ phalaniścayaḥ|
bhujyate svakṛtaṁ sarvaṁ karmabaddhā hi dehinaḥ|| <10.5.1>

tasmāj jñānaṁ paraṁ brahma ratnatrayavidarśakam|| <10.5.4>

ye jñānagocararatās te śānte vartmani sthitāḥ|
kleśoragais tu ye daṣṭās te sarve vilayaṁ gatāḥ|| <10.5.5>

parāparajñā ye dhīrāḥ sādhavas tattvadarśinaḥ|
te yānti paramaṁ sthānaṁ jarāmaraṇavarjitaṁ|| <10.5.6>

saṁsārābhiratā ye tu ramante kleśaśatrubhiḥ|
nityabandhanabaddhās te bhramanti bhavasaṅkaṭe|| <10.5.7>

yasya nairyāṇikī buddhir yasya caryā śivā sadā|
tasya devanikā yasya brahmaloko vidhīyate|| <10.5.8>

yasya rāgādayo dveṣyāḥ pūjyā buddhādayaḥ sadā|
sa nāśayati saṁsāraṁ śuṣkendhanam ivānalaḥ|| <10.5.9>

yo na cittasya vaśagaś cittaṁ yasyānugaṁ sadā|
sa nirnāśayati kleśāṁs tamaḥ sūryodaye yathā|| <10.5.10>

cittaśatruḥ paraṁ śatrur na śatrur aparaḥ smṛtaḥ|
cittadagdhāḥ sadā sattvāh kāladagdhā yathā nagāḥ|| <10.5.11>

yaś cittavaśam āpanno bālo mūḍho'jitendriyaḥ|
tasya duḥkhaśamo nāsti nirvāṇaṁ tasya dūrataḥ|| <10.5.12>

duḥkhaṁ duḥkhavipākaṁ ca duḥkhahetuṁ vijānataḥ|
naśyanti bandhanāḥ sarve kleśavṛndāḥ samantataḥ|| <10.5.13>

ālokānāṁ paraṁ jñānaṁ tamasāṁ moha ucyate|
tasmād ālokanirato yaḥ sa paṇḍita ucyate|| <10.5.14>

mohaṁ vivarjayed dhīmān sarvānarthakaro hi yaḥ|
yo mohavaśam āpannas tasya śāntir na vidyate||  <10.5.15>

saṁspṛśeta varaṁ vahniṁ saṁvāsed uragair varam|

kleśaparvatadagdhasya sukhaṁ padam avasthitam|| <10.5.18>

andhās tamasi majjante puruṣā mandamedhasaḥ|

teṣāṁ hi saphalaṁ janma yeṣāṁ buddhir avañcitā|
te ca pūjyāḥ sadā sadbhir yeṣāṁ dharme sadā matiḥ|| <10.5.20>

<10.6> iti sa bhikṣur evaṁ dharmādharmavidhijñaḥ sadbhūtvā
viharati| tasyaivaṁ sunirmalacetasaḥ: "anekāni janmaśatasahasrāṇi
śikharāṇi saṁsāraparvatād viśīryante vāntībhavanti naśyanti,
apunar bhavatīti|" naśyanti cāsya kleśaśatravaḥ, antike cāsya 
bhavati nirvāṇam|
