prathamaḥ pādaḥ|

[72] dvāviṃśatiprakārasya kṛtsnasyendriyaparvaṇaḥ|
saṃkṣepeṇābhidhāsyante dharmā ṇi(ni)rvacanādayaḥ||

cakṣurādīnyājñātavatadi(ājñātāvī)ndriyaparyantāni khalvindriyāni(ṇi) etāvānindriyagrāmo na bhūyānnālpīyān|

uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“dvāviṃśatirindriyāni(ṇi) katamāni dvāviṃśatiḥ ? cakṣurindriyaṃ śrotrendriyaṃ [yāvadājñātāvī]ndriyam” iti|

tasyendriyarāśernirvacanānukramadhātubhūmyādiprakārabhedāḥ saṃkṣepeṇābhidhāyiṣyanta iti||

kiṃ puṇa (na)rdravyato dvāviṃśatirindriyāṇyatha nāmataḥ ? tadidamākhyāyate-

[73] nāmnā dvāviṃśatistāni dravyato daśa sapta ca|
yasmānnānyaddvayaṃ kāryā(yā)tsukhādinavakatrayam||

kāyendriyapradeśa eva hi kaścitstrīpuruṣendriyākhyaṃ labhate, viśiṣṭakliṣṭavijñānasaṃnniśrayabhūtatvāt| śraddhādīnāṃ ca navānāṃ samudāyeṣu triṣvanājñātamājñāsyāmīndriyāditrayākhyāḥ||

anye puṇaḥ(naḥ) paśyanti-

[74] nāmasallakṣaṇābhāvāttannāmnaḥ sārthakatvataḥ|
trayānāṃ(ṇāṃ) vargavṛttitve'pyarthamabhyeṣyate paraiḥ||

yatkhalu saṃvṛtisatyasya lakṣaṇaṃ tatteṣāṃ nāsti kriyāpauruṣyadvāreṇa tacchabdapravṛtteḥ, laukikāgradharmavat| sārthakatvāttannāmno'rthavattatkhalvetannāmneti||

strīpuruṣendriyasyāpi-

[75] viśiṣṭabuddhihetutvādādhipatyaviśeṣataḥ|
kāyendriyādviśiṣṭatvaṃ dvayorṇe(rne)trendriyādivat||

yathaiva hi cakṣurādīni kāyendriyaviśiṣṭāṇi(ni) viśiṣṭabuddhijanakatvādādhipatyaviśeṣācca, tadvadanayorapīti||

kaḥ punarindriyārthastadārabhyate-

[76] aiśvaryārtho vipaścidbhirindriyārtho'bhidhīyate|

keṣu puṇa(na)rartheṣu keṣāmīśitvam ? vayaṃ tāvatpaśyāmaḥ-

svārthavyaktiṣu pañcānāṃ

cakṣurādīnāṃ pañcānāṃ svārthaprakāśanakriyāyāmādhipatyaṃ samaviṣamamārgālocanādityarthaḥ|

caturṇāṃ tvarthayordvayoḥ||

jīvitamanastrīpuruṣendriyānāṃ(ṇāṃ) pratyekamarthadvaye| tatra tāvajjīvitendriyasya nikāyasabhāgasaṃbandhasandhāraṇayoḥ| manaindriyasyāpi saṃkleśavyavadānayoḥ| yathoktam-“cittasaṃkleśāt sattvāḥ saṃkliśyante cittavyavadānahetorviśuddhyante” iti| puṇa(na)rbhavasaṃbandhavaśibhāvānuvartanayorvā| punarbhavasaṃbandhe tāvadyathoktam-“gandharvasya tasmiṃ(smin) samaye dvayościttayoraṇya(nya)taratsaṃmukhībhūtaṃ bhavatyanunayasahagataṃ vā pratighasahagataṃ vā|” tathā “vijñānaṃ cedānanda mātuḥ kukṣiṃ nāvakrāmet” iti| vaśibhāvānuvartane yathoktam-“cittenāyaṃ loko nīyate” iti vistaraḥ|

strīpurūṣendriyayorapi sattvotpattivikalpanayorādhipatyam| sattvotpattau tāvat, prāyastadadhīnatvāttadutpatteḥ| sattvavikalpe'pi tadvaśāt| prāthamakalpikānāṃ ca sattvānāṃ ceṣṭā strīpuruṣasvarācārādivikalpabhedāt|

[77] svagocaropalabdhyādāvīṣi(śi)tvamapare viduḥ|

paurāṇāḥ punarācāryāḥ kathayanti-“cakṣurādīnāṃ pañcānāṃ pratyekaṃ caturṣvartheṣvādhipatyam| cakṣuḥśrotrayostāvadātmabhāvaśobhāyāmandhabadhirayorakāntarūpatvāt| ātmabhāvaparikarṣaṇe, dṛṣṭvā śrutvā ca viṣayavivarjaṇā(nā)t| cakṣuḥśrotravijñānayoḥ sasaṃprayogayorūtpattau| rūpadarśaṇa(na)śabdaśravaṇayoścāsādhāraṇakāraṇatve| ghrāṇajihvākāyānāṃ tvātmabhāvaśobhāyāṃ pūrvavat| ātmabhāvaparikarṣaṇe, taiḥ kabaḍīkārāhāraparibhogāt| anyat prāgvat|

caturṇāṃ puṇaḥ (naḥ) strīpuruṣajīvitamanaindriyāṇāṃ dvayorarthayoḥ| strīpuruṣendriyayostāvat-sattvabhedasattvavikalpayoḥ| sattvabhedaḥ strīpuruṣa iti| vikalpabhedo'pi saṃsthānavacanagamanādi prāgvat| saṃkleśavyavadānayorvā| tadviyutavikalā(lpā)nāṃ saṃvarāsaṃvarādīni na bhavanti| tadvatāṃ tu saṃvaraphalaprāptiḥ|

jīvitendriyamanaindriyayorapyarthadvaye pūrvavat||

svārthavijñāna evānya āhuḥ paṇḍitamāninaḥ||

kośakārādayaḥ punarāhuḥ-"svārthopalabdhāveva cakṣurādīnāṃ pañcānāmādhipatya[m]|“ tadetadvaibhāṣikīyameva kiñcidgṛhītam| nātra kiñcit kośakārakasya svakarṣa[svakaṃ darśa]ṇa(na)m| vaibhāṣaireva svārthopalabdhirukteti||

dārṣṭāntikasya hi sarvamapratyakṣam| pañcānāṃ vijñānakāyānāmatītaviṣayatvādyadā khalu cakṣūrūpe vidyete tadā vijñānamasat| yadā vijñānaṃ sat, cakṣūrūpe tadāsatī, vijñānakṣaṇasthityabhāve svārthopalabdhyanupapatteśca||

[78] kleśotpattau sukhādīnāṃ śraddhādīnāṃ guṇāptiṣu|

sukhādīnāmapi pañcānāmindriyāṇāṃ rāgādikleśotpattāvādhipatyam| yathoktam-“vedanāpratyayā tṛṣṇā” iti| “sukhāyāṃ vedanāyāṃ rāgo'nuśete” iti vistaraḥ| śraddhādīnāṃ puṇa(na)raṣṭānāṃ sarvaguṇotpattau prabhutvamiti|

vaibhāṣāḥ puṇa(na)rāhuḥ “saṃkleśavedanābhiḥ”| tathā hyuktam-“sukhāyāṃ vedanāyāṃ rāgo'nuśete” iti vistaraḥ|

vyavadāne śraddhādīnāṃ pañcānāṃ taiḥ kleśān viṣkambhya mārgotpādanāt| yathoktam-“śraddheṣīkāsaṃpanno baladhairyasmṛtidauvārikasaṃpannaḥ samāhitacitto vimucyate prajñāśastreṇāryaśrāvakaḥ sarvāṇi saṃyojanāni saṃchinatti” ityādi|

anājñātamājñāsyāmīndriyādīnāṃ tu trayānā(ṇā)muttarottarāṅgabhāve ṇi(ni)rvāṇe cādhipatyamiti||

kaḥ puṇa(na)reṣāmindriyāṇāmanukramaḥ ? brūmaḥ-

phalasaṃkleśasaṃbhāraviśuddhitvādanukramaḥ||

prākkarma phalaṃ tāvadaṣṭau vipākajatvāttasmāttāni pūrvamuktāni| tasmin vipāke sati saṃkleśasukhādibhiḥ| pañcabhirmārgasaṃbhāraśraddhādibhiḥ| viśuddhiraṇā(nā)sravaistribhiḥ||

kasmāt punardvāviṃśatireva yathā parikīrtitānyuktāni na bhūyāṃsi nālpīyāṃsīti ? tadapadiśyate-

[79] sattvākhyā sattvavaicitrya(tryaṃ)dhṛti(tiḥ) kleśodbhavaśca yaiḥ|
mārgopāyaḥ phalaprāptisteṣāmindriyatā matā||

sattvākhyā khalu pravartate cakṣurādiṣu manaḥparyanteṣu ṣaṭsu| etaddhi maulasattvadravyam| sattvavaicitryaṃ dvābhyāṃ strīpuruṣendriyābhyām| dhṛtirjīvitendriyena(ṇa)| kleśodbhavaḥ pañcabhirvedanābhiḥ| mārgopāyaḥ śraddhādibhiḥ| phalaprāptistribhirantyaiḥ| ityetasmādeṣāmindriyatā matā||

[80] sparśāśrayodbhavādhārasaṃbhogatvāccaturdaśa|
svargāpavargahetutvāt tadanyadvendriyāṣṭakam||

tatra sparśāśrayaścakṣurādīni ṣaḍindriyāni(ṇi)| prādurbhāvaḥ strīpuruṣendriyāmyām| ādhāro jīvitendriyeṇa| saṃbhogo vedanābhiḥ pañcabhiḥ| atastāvaccaturdaśoktāṇi(ni)| svargopapattinimittāni śraddhādīni pañca| apavargakāraṇāni [trīṇyanājñātamājñāsyāmīndriyādīni ata etāvantyeva||]

yadyādhipatyārtha indriyārthaḥ kasmācchandasparśamanaskārasaṃjñācetanāmahābhaumānāṃ satyādhipatye nendriyatvam ? uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“chandamūlakāḥ sarvadharmāḥ sparśajātīyāḥ manaskāraprabhāvāḥ|” saṃjñācetanayośca saṃkleśavyavadānayorādhipatyamuktameva kuśala[cetanāyāśca| evaṃ] kleśānāmapi saṃsārahetupravartaṇa(ne) ā[dhipatyam]| nirvāṇasya ca dharmāgryatve kasmānnendriyatvam ? tadidamucyate-
[81] chandaṃ vīryāṅgabhūtatvāt sparśo vittyanubṛṃhaṇāt|
saṃjñā prajñābhibhūtatvānnendriyaṃ munirabhyadhāt||

chando hi karttukāmatā sā ca vīryāṅgabhūtā| vīryaṃ tu sākṣāt kriyayā'bhisaṃbadhyate| tadevendriyamuktam| sparśo'pi “sparśapratyayā vedanā” iti tadutpattau parikṣīṇaśaktiḥ| saṃjñāpi prāyo'pi(prāyo) lokavyavahārapatitā| sā prajñayā paramārthaikarasayā'bhibhūteti nendriyamuktā||

[82] śraddhādīnāṃ vidāṃ caiva doṣaḥ śuddhau malodaye|
pradhānatvānmanaskāro nendriyaṃ samudāhṛtam||

yoniśo manasikāraḥ khalu śraddhādīnāṃ saṅgībhavati| ayoniśo manasikāro'pi vedanādīnāṃ rāgādisaṃprayuktānāmiti so'pi nendriyam||

[83] saṃbhāvanānukūlatvādadhimokṣo'pi nendriyam|

adhimokṣo'pi śraddhopakārīti nendriyam||

kālāntaraphalotpādasaṃdehābhyāṃ na cetanā||

cetanāyāḥ khalvapi kālāntareṇa phalamiti tasya nāsati phale śaktirāvirbhavati| lokopi tasyāḥ phalasattvāvināśaṃ dṛṣṭvā vipratipannaḥ| kaścid brūte nirhetukaṃ phalamiti kaścidīśvarakṛtaṃ kaścidadṛṣṭādihetukamiti| cetanāyāḥ phalamanabhivyaktamiti| īśitvaṃ bhagavatā jānānenāpyatastasyāstrailokyakāraṇatve'pi sati cetanā nendriyeṣu vyavasthāpitā||

kuśalamahābhaumebhyo'pi

[84] nāpramādo'pyasau vīryāt, na hrīḥ prāgalbhanigrahāt|
nopekṣā nāpi cālobho vīryaśraddhābhibhūtitaḥ||

apramādastāvadvīryasya bhāṇḍāgārikasthānīyaḥ| vīryaṃ kuśalān dharmānupājeyati satān rakṣati| hrīrapi vaiśāradyasapatnabhūtā navavadhūrivāpragalbhā| tasyāḥ kuta ādhipatyam ? upekṣāpi śraddhābhibhūtā| alobhaśva vīryavirodhīti nendriyam||

[85] na prasrabdhirvidautkaṭyādvinindyatvācca nāsravāḥ|

prasrabdhiḥ khalu vedanāyāḥ vṛttiprādhānyenābhibhūtā| sāpi nendriyam| akuśalānāmapi dharmāṇāṃ vinindyatvāttu nāsravāścaṇḍālarājavat||

viprayuktānāmapi

jātyādayo na pārārthyāt

paratantrā hi jātyādayo dharmāḥ paricārakavat teṣāṃ kutaḥ prabhutvam ?

niṣkriyatvānna nirvṛtiḥ||

nirvāṇamapi niṣkriyamasatphalaṃ satkriyāśca dharmāḥ phalavanta ādhipatyayuktā iti bhagavatā nirvāṇaṃ nendriyaṃ vyavasthāpitamiti| nātra kiñcidupasaṃkhyeyaṃ ṇā(nā)pyapaneyamiti||

lakṣaṇamidānīmindriyāṇāṃ vaktavyam| tatra cakṣurādīnāmuktam| jīvitaśraddhādīnāṃ saṃprayuktaviprayukteṣūcyamāneṣu vakṣyate| duḥkhādīnāṃ tvadhunocyate|

[86] kāyasya bādhanaṃ duḥkhaṃ daurmanasyaṃ tu cetasaḥ|

bādhana[miti vartate]||

sukhaṃ ca sumanastā ca sātaṃ śārīramānasam||

sātamiti prahlādanāparyāyaḥ|

[87ab] vaiśiṣṭyānmānasaṃ sātaṃ sukhaṃ kvacidudāhṛtam|

tṛtīye dhyāne mānasaṃ sātaṃ sukhamityudāhṛtaṃ bhagavatā pañcendriyasukhātiśayatvāt| saumanasyaṃ tu prītisvabhāvaṃ sā ca tṛtīyadhyāne nāstīti sukhaṃ ca tatroktamiti |..........

.........bhaumam tadapadiśyate-

[88] ṣaṭsu bhūmiṣu vijñeyaṃ nīrajaskādyamindriyam|

anājñātamājñāsyāmīndriyaṃ ṣaṭṣu bhūmiṣu, caturṣu dhyāneṣvanāgame(mye) dhyānāntarikāyāṃ ca|

tadanye nirmale tvakṣe draṣṭavye navabhūmike||

ājñendriyamājñātavata(ajñātāvi)indriyaṃ ca navasu bhamiṣu-āsveva ṣaṭṣu triṣu cādyāsvārūpyabhūmiṣu||

atha kāni dvāviṃśatirindriyāni(ṇi) kāni rki prahātavyāni ? dudāhriyate-

[89] daurmaṇa(na)syaṃ dvihātavyaṃ

darśanabhāvanāprahātavyam|

manovittitrayaṃ tridhā|

manaindriyaṃ sukhasaumanasyopekṣāśca darśaṇa(na)bhāvanāheyāścāheyāśca|

navābhyāsapraheyāni(ṇi)

cakṣurādīni jīvitāvasānānyaṣṭau duḥkhendriyaṃ ca|

dvidhā [pañca]

śraddhādīni bhāvanāheyānyaheyāni ca| sāsravānāsravāt|

na tu trayam||

trīṇyanāsravāṇyapraheyānyeva nirdoṃṣatvāt||

yadi tarhi śraddhādīni sāsravānāsravatvātpraheyāni cāpraheyāni ca dvidhā bhavanti, trayamevānāsravam| idaṃ tarhi sūtraṃ kathaṃ nīyate ? yaduktaṃ bhagavatā-“tasyaitāni (yasyemāni) pañcendriyāni(ṇi) sarveṇa sarvaṃ na santi tamahaṃ bāhyaṃ pṛthagjanapakṣāvasthitaṃ vadāmi” iti ?

anāsravādhikārādajñāpakametat| anāsravāṇi khalvadhikṛtyaitaduktam| yasmādāryapudgalavyavasthānaṃ kṛtvā “yasyemāni” iti bhagavānavocat| pṛthagjano vā dvividhaḥ| ābhyantaraścāsamucchinnakuśalamūlaḥ, bāhyaśca samucchinnakuśalamūlaḥ| tamadhikṛtyoktam-“bāhyaṃ pṛthagjanapakṣāvasthitaṃ vadāmi” i[ti]| “sarveṇa sarvāni(ṇi)” iti vacanādvā ‘yasya laukikānyapi na santi’ ityākūtam| bāhyamityaśākyaputrīyaṃ pṛthagjanapakṣāvasthitamityāryadharmavipakṣāvasthitam| anyathā hyevamavakṣyat-‘yasyemāni pañcendriyā(ṇi) na santi tamahaṃ pṛthagjanapakṣāvasthitaṃ vadāmi’ iti| uktaṃ hi- “santrasanti sattvā loke jātā loke vṛddhāstīkṣṇendriyā api madhyendriyā api mṛdvindriyā api” ityapravartita eva dharmacakre| punaścoktam-“yāvaccāhameṣāṃ pañcānāmindriyānāṃ(ṇāṃ) samudayaṃ cāstaṅgamaṃ cāsvādaṃ cādīnavaṃ ca niḥsaraṇaṃ ca yathābhūtaṃ nāpyajñāsiṣaṃ na tāvadahamasmātsadevakāllokāt” iti vistaraḥ| na cāyamanāsravānāṃ(ṇāṃ) dharmāṇāṃ parīkṣāprakāraḥ|

vayaṃ tvatremamāgamaṃ brūmaḥ-“trīṇīmāni śrāddhasya śrā(śra)ddhāliṅgāṇi(ni)” iti vistaraḥ| kathaṃ kṛtvā jñāpakam ? śraddhāyāṃ hyasatyāmāryāṇāṃ darśaṇa(na)kāmatā na bhavet| saddharmaśrotukāmatā ca, vigatamātsaryeṇa cetasā agāramadhyavastukāmatā [ca]| yasya ca pṛthagjanasyaitānīndriyāṇi na santi sa sarva[thā bāhyapṛthagjano] bhavati kuśaladharmopaṇi(ni)ṣaddhetuvaikalyāt| tasmātsāstravāṇīti siddham||

uktaḥ prakārabhedaḥ| lābha idānīṃ vaktavyaḥ| katīndriyāni(ṇi) kasmin dhātau vipākaḥ prathamato labhyate ? tadidamārabhyate|

[90] pūrvaṃ kramodbhavaiḥ kāme vipāko [labhya]te dvayam|

kāmadhātau kra[modbhavaiḥ -aṇḍajajarāyujasaṃsvedajaiḥ pūrvaṃ] indriyadvayaṃ labhyate| kāyendriyaṃ jīvitendriyaṃ ca| etaddhi dvayaṃ tasmin śukraśoṇitabindau prathamaṃ vipākajaṃ bhavati| kliṣṭatvāttu na manaupekṣendriye vipākaḥ|

anyaiḥ ṣaṭ sapta vā'ṣṭau vā

aupapādukaiḥ punaḥ ṣaṭ| cakṣu rādīni pañca jīvitendriyaṃ ca| [yadyavyañjanā bhavanti yathā prāthama]kalpikaḥ| sapta puṇa(na)ryadyekavyañjanā yathā devādiṣu| aṣṭau vā yadyubhayavyañjanā bhavanti yathā'pāyeṣu| evaṃ tāvat kāmadhātau|

ṣaḍ rūpe

rūpadhātau punaḥ ṣaḍindriyāṇi vi[pāka]ḥ prathamato labhyante| cakṣurādīni pañca jīvitendriyaṃ ca|

antye tu jīvitam||

[ārūpye jīvitendriyaṃ] vipāko labhyate| ukto lābhaḥ||
tyāgo vaktavyaḥ| so'yamāviṣkriyate-

[91] mriyamāṇai(rni)rodhyante trīṇyante

jīvitam, manaḥ, upekṣā ceti|

aṣṭau tu madhyame|

rūpadhātau mriyamāṇairaṣṭau nirudhyante| tāni ca trīṇi, cakṣurādīni ca pañca|

daśāṣṭau nava catvāri kāme pañca śubhāni vā||

ubhayavyañjanairdaśa nirodhyante| tāni cāṣṭau strīpuruṣendriye ca| ekavyañjanairṇa(rna)va| avyañjanairaṣṭau| sakṛnmaraṇe khalveṣa nyāyaḥ| kramena(ṇa) tu mriyamānai(ṇai)ścatvāri ṇi(ni)rodhyante kāyajīvitamanaupekṣendriyāni(ṇi)| na hyeṣāṃ pṛthaṅnirodhaḥ| epa ca vidhiḥ kliṣṭāvyākṛtacittasya maraṇe draṣṭavyaḥ| kuśale tu citte sarvatra śraddhādīni pañcādhikāni| evamārūpyeṣvaṣṭau, rūpeṣu trayodaśa| ityevaṃ vistareṇa gaṇayitavyāni||

abhidharmadīpe vibhāṣāprabhāyāṃ vṛttau dvitīyasyādhyāyasya prathamaḥ pādaḥ||

dvitīyapādaḥ|

indriyaprastāve sarva indriyadharmā vicāryanta ityataḥ pṛcchati| athaiṣāṃ kuśalānāmindriyānāṃ(ṇāṃ) katareṇendriyena(ṇa) kataracchrāmanya(ṇya)phalaṃ prāpyata iti ? tadidaṃ prastūyate-

[92] ādyantalābho navabhiḥ saptāṣṭābhiśca madhyayoḥ|

yā khalveṣā catuṣphalamayī mālā tasyāḥ prathamaṃ strotaāpattiphalamantyamarhattvaṃ madhye sakṛdāgāmyanāgāmiphale| tatrādyāntayoḥ phalayorṇa(rna)vabhirindriyairlābhaḥ| strotaāpattiphalasya tāvat-śraddhādibhiḥ pañcabhirājñāsyāmīndriyājñendriyābhyāmekamanayorānantaryamārgād, dvitīyaṃ vimuktimārgādveditavyam| prathamena kleśaprāpticchedo dvitīyena visaṃyogaprāptyākarṣaṇam| manaupekṣendriyābhyāṃ ceti| arhattvasya punaḥ śraddhādibhirājñāsyāmīndriyavarjjaiḥ, manaindriyena(ṇa) sukhasaumanasyopekṣendriyānāṃ(ṇāṃ) cānyatamena|

‘saptāṣṭābhiśca madhyayoḥ |’ sakṛdāgāmyanāgāmiphalayoḥ punaḥ saptabhiraṣṭābhirṇa(rna)vabhiśceti ‘ca’śabdāt| tatra sakṛdāgāmiphalaṃ tāvadyadyānupūrviko labhate, sa ca laukikena mārgena(ṇa) tasya saptabhirlābhaḥ| pañcabhiḥ śraddhādibhiḥ, manaupekṣendribhyāṃ ca| atha lokottareṇa mārgeṇa tasyāṣṭābhiḥ, ājñendriyamaṣṭamaṃ bhavati| atha [bhūyo]vītarāgaḥ prāpnoti, tasya navabhiryaireva strotaāpattiphalasya| anāgāmiphalaṃ yadyānupūrvīkaḥ prāpnoti, sa ca laukikena mārgeṇa, tasya saptabhiryathā sakṛdāgāmiphalasya|

atha lokottareṇa, tasyāṣṭābhistathaiva| atha vītarāgaḥ prāpnoti, tasya navabhiryathā strotaāpattiphalasya| tasya tu niśrayaviśeṣāt sukhasaumanasyopekṣendriyāṇāmanyatamadbhavati| yadāpyayamānupūrviko navame vimuktimārge dhyānaṃ praviśati laukikena mārgeṇa, tadāpyaṣṭābhirindriyairaṇā(nā)gāmiphalaṃ labhate| tasya navame vimuktimārge saumanasyamaṣṭamaṃ bhavati, ānantaryamārge tūpekṣendriyameva| nityamubhābhyāṃ hi tasya prāptiḥ| atha lokottareṇa praviśati, tasya navabhirājñendriyaṃ navamaṃ bhavati||

yattarhyabhidharme paṭhyate-“arhatphalasyaikādaśabhiḥ” iti| tatkathamucyate ‘navabhistasya prāptiḥ’ iti ? naiva doṣaḥ| yasmāt-

ekādaśabhirāptistu phalasyāntya[sya] hānitaḥ||

parihāya parihāyā'yaṃ samayavimukto'rhanniśrayaviśeṣātpunarlabhate| kadācit tṛtīyaṃ dhyānaṃ niśritya| kadācid dvitīyaṃ prathamaṃ vā| kadāciccaturthamanāgamyaṃ vā| ityatastisṛṇāṃ vedanānāṃ saṃbhavādekādaśabhiruktam||

athaiṣāṃ trayānāṃ(ṇāṃ) kāmarūpārūpyadhātūnāṃ kataradhātubhūmyālambanena mārgeṇa katarasya dhātoḥ parijñānaṃ bhavatīti ? tadāvirbhāvyate|

[93 ab.] svasya dhātoḥ parijñānaṃ svavipakṣadṛśā pathā|

svavipakṣadṛśā ca mārgaṇe(mārgeṇā)nāsraveṇa parijñānaṃ bhavati| tatra svadhātudṛśā tāvad duḥkhasamudayālambanena, svavipakṣadṛśā nirodhamārgālambanena traidhātukaparijñānaṃ bhavati| sāsraveṇa tvānantaryamārgeṇa saṃgṛhītena sannikṛṣṭā'dhobhūmiviṣayeṇordhvasannikṛṣṭabhūmyālambanena ca vimuktimārgasaṃgṛhītenādhobhūmiparijñānaṃ bhavati| āna[nta]ryamārgāṇāmadhobhūmiviṣayatvādvimuktyākhyānāmūrdhvabhūmyālambanatvācca| anāsravānāṃ(ṇāṃ) tūbhayeṣāmekabhūmigocaratvāditi|

atha katibhi(bhī)rindriyaiḥ kāmadhātuparijñānaṃ katibhi(bhī) rūpārūpyadhātuparijñānamiti ? tadidaṃ pratāyate-

[94] kāmadhātuparijñānaṃ prāyaḥ saptabhiriṣyate|
samalairnirmalaistvarthairaṣṭābhirabhidhīyate||

kāmadhātostāvat-sāsravaiḥ saptabhiḥ parijñānaṃ bhavati prahāṇamityarthaḥ| pañcabhiḥ śraddhādibhiḥ manaupekṣendriyābhyāṃ ca| prāyograhaṇātsaumanasyendriyenā(ṇā)pi kasyacitsamāpattyabhiprāyasya yogino maulabhūmipraveśāt| anāsravaistvindriyairaṣṭābhiḥ| ebhireva saptabhirājñedriyeṇa ca| prāyo vacanātsaumanasyendriyena(ṇa) ca navamena||

[95] rūpadhātuparijñānamiṣṭaṃ daśabhirindriyaiḥ|

pañcabhiḥ śraddhādibhiḥ, mana indriyena(ṇa), tisṛbhirvedanābhiḥ, niśrayaviśeṣādājñendriyena(ṇa) ca||

antyadhātuparijñānamekādaśabhirucyate||

yathoktairdaśabhirājñātavadindriyena(ṇa) ca| ubhābhyāṃ tasya parijñānamekaṃ vajropamasamādhisahacaram, dvitīyaṃ kṣayajñānasahagatamiti||

idamidānīṃ vaktavyam-kaḥ katibhirindriyaiḥ samanvāgata iti ? tatra tāvadayaṃ niyamaḥ-

[96] sarvasattvāstridhātusthā upekṣāyurmaṇo(no)'nvitāḥ|

ebhistribhiḥ sarvasattvāḥ samanvāgatāḥ|
tvakstrītvavyañjanaiḥ kāme

kāmāvacarāḥ sattvāḥ kāyapuruṣastrīndriyairebhiḥ pūrvāktaśca|

rūpiṇaścakṣurādibhiḥ||

rūpiṇaḥ khalu sattvāścakṣurādibhistribhiścopekṣāyurmanobhiḥ||

[97] kāminaḥ khalu duḥkhena tadrāgī durmaṇa(na)stayā|

avītarāgaḥ kāmadhātau duḥkhadaurmaṇa(na)syābhyāṃ samanvāgataḥ|

ūrdhvajastu sukhenāryaḥ śubhāhvādharajau tathā||

ūrdhvajo rūpārūpyadhātuja āryaḥ sukhena samanvāgataḥ| anāsraveṇa śubhakṛ[tsnaparīttaśubhāpramāṇaśubhāḥ] kliṣṭākliṣṭena||

ābhāsvareṣūpapannastadadharajaśca prītyā samanvāgataḥ|

śubhaiḥ sa śubhamūlakaḥ|

śraddhādibhiḥ pañcabhiḥ kuśalairaṇu(nu)cchinnakuśalamūlaḥ sarvatra samanvāgataḥ|

śaikṣābhyāṃ mokṣamārgasthau

dvā bhyāṃ śaikṣābhyāṃ [indriyābhyāṃ darśanabhāvanāmārgasthau]||

[aśaikṣo'rhan] svamārgagaḥ||

atha niyamena kaḥ katibhirindriyaiḥ samanvāgata iti ? tadidamupadarśyate-

[99] upekṣāyurmaṇo(no)yukto'vaśyaṃ trayasamanvitaḥ|

[e]bhireva tribhiḥ| na hyeṣāmanyonyena vinā samanvāgataḥ| śeṣairaṇi(ni)yamaḥ|

tatra tāvaccakṣurādibhiḥ saptabhirārūpyopapanno na samanvāgataḥ| kāmadhātau ca yenāpratilabdhavihīnāni| sukhendriyeṇa caturthadhyānādyupapannāḥ pṛthagjanāḥ, saumanasyena tri(tṛ)tīyādyupapannāḥ pṛthagjanāḥ, sukhendriyena(ṇa) rūpārūpyopapannāḥ, daurmaṇa(na)syena kāmavītarāgaḥ, śraddhādibhirniḥśubhaḥ, anāsravaestribhiḥ pṛthagjanā na samanvāgatāḥ|

caturbhiḥ kāyasukhavān

yaḥ kāyendriyeṇa so'vaśyaṃ caturbhistaiśca tribhiḥ kāyendriyena(ṇa) ca| yo'pi sukhandriyeṇa sa caturbhiḥ-taiśca tribhirupekṣādibhiḥ sukhendriyena(ṇa) ca|

cakṣuṣmānapi pañcabhiḥ||

‘api’śabdācchotraghrāṇajihvendriyairveditavyam| yaścakṣurindriyeṇa so'vaśyaṃ pañcabhiḥ-upekṣājīvitamanorūpendriyaiścakṣuṣā ca||

[100] strīndriyādyanvito'ṣṭābhiḥ

taiśca saptabhiḥ strīṃndriyeṇa(ṇa) ca| ‘ādi’grahaṇāt puruṣendriyadaurmaṇa (na)syaśraddhādīnāṃ grahaṇaṃ veditavyam| tadvānapi pratyekamaṣṭābhiḥ-taiśca saptabhiḥ puruṣendriyena(ṇa) cāṣṭamena| ebhiśca kāyajīvitamanobhiścatasṛbhirvedanābhiḥ, daurmaṇa(na)syendriyeṇa ca| śraddhā di[bhi]staiśca pañcabhirupekṣājīvitamanobhiśca|

duḥkhī yuktastu saptabhiḥ|

yo duḥkhena sa saptabhiḥ-kāyajītimanobhiścatasṛbhirvedanendriyairdaurmaṇa(na)syaṃ hitvā, tadvītarāgasya nāstīti|

ekādaśabhirantyābhyāṃ

dvābhyāmantyābhyāṃ yukto'vaśyamekādaśabhiḥ, pratyekaṃ sukhasaumanasyopekṣājīvitamanaḥśraddhādibhirājñendriyeṇa ca| evamājñātavadindriyeṇa tena taiśceti|

sapta ṣaḍbhistadādyavān||

prathamena tvanāsraveṇa yaḥ samanvāgataḥ so'vaśyaṃ trayodaśabhirmanojīvitakāyendriyaiścatasṛbhirvedanābhiḥ śraddhādibhistena ceti||

atha sarvabahubhiḥ kiyadbhiḥ samanvāgatāḥ ? taducyate-

[101] tridvīpanarakotpannā mithyātvaniyatā api|
[bahubhiḥ] hyekānnaviṃśatyā svalpairaṣṭābhiranvitāḥ||

[102] antarābhavikapretatiryakśraddhānusāriṇa [:]|
tryadhikairdaśabhiryuktā daśabhirvā navādhikaiḥ||

svalpaistrayodaśabhī rūpabhiḥ pañcabhiḥ śraddhādibhiśca jīvitamanaupekṣābhiśca| ṇā(nā)rakasya tūcchinnaśubhabījasya cakṣurādīni pañcaikaṃ vyañjanaṃ vedanāśca pañca jīvitaṃ manaśca| tiraścāṃ nāstyucchedaḥ| ya ihocchinatti so'vaśyamavīciṃ gacchati| tena natra narake śraddhādyā na santi| pañca cakṣurādīni pañca ca vedā, ekaṃ vyañjanaṃ jīvitaṃ manaśceti trayodaśa bhavanti| syurbahubhiścāntarābhavikādyāḥ pṛthagjanāstrīṇyamalāni hitvaikānnaviṃśatibhiḥ, āryāstu śraddhānusāriṇo dve amale hitvaikaṃ ca vyañjanamityekānnaviṃśatibhireva samanvāgatāḥ||

[103] samyaktvaniyatā ye tu ye ca śraddhādhimuktikāḥ|
ta ekādaśabhiryuktā daśabhirvā navādhikaiḥ||

tatra samyaktvaniyatā āryā ityarthaḥ| te pañcabhiḥ śraddhādibhirmanojīvitābhyāṃ ca tisṛbhirvedanābhirekena cānāsravena(ṇa)| sarvaprabhūtaiḥ punarekānnaviṃśatibhirekaliṅgadvyamalavarjitaiḥ||

[104] prajñāvimuktanāmārhat kāyasākṣyubhayāhvayāḥ|
akṣaikādaśakopetā yadi vā'ṣṭādaśānvitāḥ||

sarvālpairekādaśabhiḥ śraddhādibhiḥ sukhasaumanasyopekṣājīvitamanobhirekena cānāsraveṇa| bahubhistvaṣṭāda[śa]bhiḥ, dve anāsrave daurmaṇa(na)syamekaṃ ca vyañjanaṃ hitvā||

[105] kāmadevā mṛtāḥ svalpairdaśabhiḥ saptakādhikaiḥ|

anāsravatrayaṃ hitvā daurmaṇa(na)syaṃ ca| tatratyaḥ pṛthagjano yadi vairāgyaṃ gacchati sa devarṣirbhavati| ekaṃ ca vyañjanaṃ hitvā pariśiṣṭaiḥ saptadaśabhiḥ samanvāgataḥ|

ta evaikonaviṃśatyā yuktā bahubhirindriyaiḥ||

dve anāsrave hitvaikaṃ ca vyañjanam| atrāpi hi satyāni dṛśyante||

[106] [dvirdhyāna] jāstu sarvālpairdaśabhiḥ pañcakādhikaiḥ|

prathamadvitīyadhyānopapannānāṃ pṛthagjanānāṃ duḥkhadaurmaṇa(na)sye hitvā dve ca vyañjane trīṇi cāmalāni, pañcadaśabhiḥ samanvāgamaḥ|

daśabhiḥ sacatuṣkaistu śubhakṛtsnāḥ samanvitāḥ||

śubhakṛtsneṣu pṛthagjanasya saumanasyaṃ ca hitvā caturdaśabhiḥ samanvāgamaḥ|

[107] bṛhatphalā hi atyalpaistrayodaśabhiranvitāḥ|

bṛhatphaleṣu pṛthagjanasya sukhaṃ ca hitvā duḥkhādīni pūrvoktāni trayodaśa bhavanti|

yuktāḥ ṣoḍaṣa(śa)bhistvete sarvabhūribhindriyaiḥ||

yadyāryā bhavanti teṣāṃ sukhasaumanasyābhyāmanāsravābhyāṃ samanvāgama iti ṣoḍaśa bhavanti||

[108] aṣṭābhirdaśabhiḥ saikairārūpyāḥ svalpabhūribhiḥ|

svalpairaṣṭābhiḥ| pṛthagjanasyāṣṭā [:] svalpāni bhavanti| pañca śrā(śra)ddhāddhī(dī)ni, jīvitaṃ manaupekṣā ca| bahubhirekādaśabhirāryasya samanvāgamaḥ| pañcabhiḥ śraddhādibhiḥ, dvābhyāṃ sukhasaumanasyābhyāmanāsravābhyām, jīvitamanaupekṣendriyaiścaturbhiraṇā(nā)sraveṇa caikena|

sadevakauravāḥ sattvāstrayodaśabhiranvitāḥ||

pañcabhiḥ śraddhādibhiḥ pañcabhiḥ sukhādibhiḥ, kāyamanojīvitaiśca tribhiḥ||

[109] aṣṭābhirniḥśubho yukto daśabhirvā trayādhikaiḥ|

ucchinnaśubhamūlo niḥśubhaḥ sarvālpairaṣṭābhiḥ samanvāgataḥ| sukhādibhiḥ pañcabhiḥ kāyajīvitamanobhiśca| sarvaprabhūtaistu trayodaśabhiryathoktairaṣṭābhiścakṣurādibhiścaturbhirekena ca vyañjanena|

dviliṅgāḥ paścimaiḥ svalpairviśatyāpyekayā param||

ubhayavyañjanastrayodaśabhiḥ svalpaiḥ sukhādibhiḥ kāyajīvitamanobhiḥ śraddhādibhiśca pañcabhiḥ| cakṣurādīnāmalabdhavihīnatvādaniyamaḥ| sarvabahubhistvekonaviṃśatibhistrīṇyamalānyapāsya| samāpto'yaṃ matsyakagranthasamudraḥ|

vyākhyāta indriyānāṃ(ṇāṃ) dhātugatiprabhedapradarśanāgatānāṃ vistareṇa prabhedaḥ| adhunā tu momāṃsyate| kimete saṃskṛtā dharmā yathā bhinnasvabhāvāḥ, evaṃ bhinnotpādā atha niyatasahotpādā api kecidvidyanta iti ? vidyanta ityāha|

tatra saṃkṣepeṇa pañcemā dharmajātayaḥ-rūpaṃ cittaṃ caitasikāścittaviprayuktā asaṃskṛtaṃ ca|

tatrāsaṃskṛtaṃ nodeti na ca vyeti|
rūpiṇāṃ tu dharmāṇāmayaṃ niyamaḥ-

[110] saptadravyāvinirbhāgī paramāṇurbahirgataḥ|
kāmeṣvekādhikaḥ kāye dvyadhikaścakṣurādiṣu||

sarvasūkṣmaḥ khalu rūpasaṃskāropādānasaṃcayabhedaparyantaḥ paramāṇuriti prajñāpyate| sa tu saptadravyāvinirbhāgī caturbhirbhūtaistribhiścopādāyarūpaistribhistribhirvā bhūtaiścaturbhiścopādāyarūpairavinirbhāgavartyasāvaṣṭama iti|

kośakārastvāha-“sarvasūkṣmo rūpasaṃghātaḥ paramānuḥ(ṇuḥ)” iti| tena saṃghātavyatiriktaṃ rūpamanyadvaktavyam| yadi nāsti saṃghāto'pi nāsti| ataḥ siddhaṃ ‘sarvasūkṣmaṃ rūpaparamānuḥ(ṇuḥ)’ iti||

kāyedriyasahagastvaṣṭābhiścakṣurādisahitā(to) navabhiḥ||

[111] evaṃ rūpe'pi vijñeyo hitvā gandharasadvayam|

rūpadhātau bahirgataḥ pañcadravyāvinirbhāgī gandharasau hitvā| kāyasahagatastu ṣaḍbhiścakṣurādiṣu saptabhiravinirbhāgibhiḥ| yadā punassaśabdakaḥ sa saṃdhāto jāyate, tadā sarvatra yathokteṣu śabdo'dhiko gaṇayitavyaḥ|

atra punarmahābhūtāni sarvopādāyarūpāśrayabhāvaprādhānyāccatasro dravyajātayo vivakṣyante| upādāyarūpadhātucatuṣṭayaṃ tu ghaṭādidravyaprajñaptinimittatvādāyatanagaṇanayā gaṇyata iti vivakṣitāparijñānānnāsti codyāvakāśaḥ||

arūpiṇāṃ punaḥ

cittaṃ caitasikaiḥ sārdhaṃ

avinirbhāgena (ṇa) jāyata iti varttate|

saṃskṛtaṃ tu svalakṣaṇaiḥ||

sarva hi saṃskṛtaṃ svalakṣaṇaiḥ saha jātyādibhirutpadyata iti veditavyam||

abhidharmadīpe vibhāṣāprabhāyāṃ vṛttau dvitīyasya[adhyāyasya] dvitīyaḥ pādaḥ||

yaduktaṃ caitasikāstu sahotpadyanta iti tadabhidhīyatām| ke punaste caitasikā dharmāḥ ?

te pañcaprabhedāḥ-mahābhaumāḥ, kuśalamahābhaumāḥ, kleśamahābhaumāḥ, akuśalamahābhaumāḥ, parīttakleśamahābhaumikāśca| mahatī cittabhūmireṣāmiti ta ime mahābhaumāḥ| bhūmirgatirityarthaḥ| eva sarvatra vigrahaḥ kāryaḥ|

tatra tāvanmahābhaumā nirdiśyante|

[112] daśadharmā mahābhaumā vitsaṃjñācetanāsmṛtiḥ|
chandaḥ sparśo'dhimokṣaśca dhīḥ samādhirmanaskṛtiḥ||

ete daśadharmāḥ sarvasyāṃ cittabhūmau traidhātukyāmanāsravāyāṃ ca samagrā bhavanti|

tatra vedanā sukhādistrividho'nubhavaḥ| trividhaṃ saṃveditamiti paryāyaḥ| iṣṭāniṣṭobhayaviparītaviṣayendriyavijñānasannipātajā dharmayoniḥ kāyacittāvasthā viśeṣaḥ prahlādyupatāpī tadubhayaviparītaśca tṛṣṇāheturvedi(da)netyucyate|

nimittanāmārthaikyajñā saṃjñā vitarkayoniḥ|

cittābhisaṃskāraścetanā|

cittavyāpārarūpā smṛtiḥ| cittasyārthābhilapanā kṛtakartavyakriyamāna(ṇa)karmāntāvipramoṣalakṣaṇāḥ(ṇā)|

ccha(cha)ndaḥ kartukāmatā vīryāṅgabhūtaḥ|

viṣayendriyavijñānasannipātajā cittasya viṣayaspṛṣṭiḥ, caitasikadharmo jīvanalakṣaṇaḥ sparśaḥ|

cittasya viṣaye'dhimuktiravi(dhi)mokṣo rucidvitīyanāmā cittasya viṣayāpratisaṃkocalakṣaṇaḥ|

dhīḥ prajñā dharmasaṃgrahādyupalakṣaṇasvabhāvā|

cittasyaikāgratā samādhiścittasthitilakṣaṇaḥ|

cittasyābhogo manaskāraḥ pūrvānubhūtādisamanvāhārasvarūpaḥ|

sūkṣmaḥ khalu cittacaittānāṃ viśeṣo duravadhāro rūpinī(ṇī)nāmeva tāvadoṣadhīnāṃ bahurasānāmindriyagrāhyo'pi rasaviśeṣo duravadhāraḥ, kimaṅga punaramūrtāṇāṃ(nāṃ) cittacaitasikānāṃ dharmāṇāmekakalāpavartināṃ buddhigamyaḥ ? sa tu hetuphalasvabhāvairmatimadbhirabhyūhya iti||

kuśalamahābhaume bhavāḥ kuśalamahābhaumāḥ| te puṇaḥ(naḥ)

[113] śraddhāpekṣā'pramādaśca prasrabdhirhrīrapatrapā|
mūlavīryamahiṃsā ca śubhabhūkā daśasmṛtāḥ||

tatra śraddhā cetasaḥ prasādo guṇiguṇārthitvābhisaṃpratyayākāraḥ, cittakāluṣyāpanāyī| tadyathodakaprasādako maṇiḥ sarasi prakṣiptaḥ sarvaṃ kāluṣyamapanīyācchatāmutpādayati tadvaci(cci)ttasarasi jātaḥ śraddhāmaṇiriti|

a[pra]mādaḥ kuśaladharmabhāvanā tadavahitatetyarthaḥ|

prasrabdhiścittakarmaṇyatā| kāyaprasrabghirapyasti| sā tu tadānukūlyādbodhyaṅgaśabdaṃ labhate| tadyathā prītiḥ| prītisthānīyāśca dharmāḥ prītibodhyaṅgamuktaṃ bhagavatā| samyagdṛṣṭisaṃkalpavyāyāmāśca prajñānukūlyāt prajñāskandha ityuktāḥ| tadvatkāyakarmaṇyatā cittakarmaṇyatā bodhyaṅgāvāhakatvāttacchabdenoktā|

upekṣā cittasamatā cittānābhogaḥ saṃskārāṇi(ni)mittābhogamadhyupekṣānimittapravana(ṇa)tā|

hrīḥ svātmāpekṣā| akāryakaraṇe lajjā|

apatrāpyantu parāpekṣāḥ (kṣam)|

dve tu kuśalamūle alobhādveṣau| amohastu prajñāsvabhāvatvānmahābhaumeṣūkta iti na gaṇyate|

vīrvaṃ kuśalākuśaladharmotpādanirodhābhyutsāhaḥ, saṃsāranimagnasya cetaso'bhyunnatirityarthaḥ|

avihiṃsā sattvāviheṭhanā|
uktāḥ kuśalamahābhaumāḥ||

[114] styānaṃ pramattirāśraddhyamālasyaṃ mūḍhiruddhati[:]|

styānaṃ kāyacittākarmaṇyatā |

pramādaḥ kuśalānāṃ dharmāṇāmabhāvanā| bhāvanāvipakṣabhūto dharmaḥ|

āśraddhyaṃ cittāprasādaḥ, cittakāluṣyamityarthaḥ| guṇeṣu guṇavatsu cāsaṃpratyayo'narthitvaṃ ca|

kausīdyaṃ cittasyānabhyutsāhaḥ|
mūḍhiravidyānukārā'saṃprakhyānarūpā|
auddhatyaṃ cittasyāvyupaśamaḥ|
uktāḥ ṣaṭ kleśamahābhaumāḥ|

abhidharme tu daśa paṭhyante-"āśraddhaym, kausīdyam, muṣitasmṛtitā, cetaso vikṣepaḥ, avidyā, asaṃprajanyam, ayoniśo manasikāraḥ, mithyādhimokṣaḥ, auddhatyam, pramādaśca" iti|

tatra muṣitasmṛtivikṣepāsaṃprajanyāyoniśomanasikāramithyādhimokṣāḥ pañcamahābhaumeṣu paṭhitāḥ| kliṣṭā'kliṣṭānāmubhayeṣāṃ smṛtyādisvābhāvyāditīha na pṛthaggaṇyante| tasmāt ṣaḍeva kleśamahābhaumāḥ|

aśubhe tu dve āhrīkyamanapatrapā||

akuśale tu cetasi āhrīkyamanapatrāpyaṃ ca dvau dharmāvakuśalamahābhaumikau bhavataḥ| tatrāhrīkyaṃ hrīvipakṣabhūto dharmaḥ| anapatrāpyamapatrāpyasyeti| akāryaṃ kurvāṇasyālajjā svātmano[']hrīḥ| parebhyo[']lajjā anapatrāpyamityapare|

parīttakleśamahābhaumā nirdiśyante|

[115] māyāśāṭhyamadakrodhavihiṃserṣyāpradaṣṭayaḥ|
sūkṣmopaṇā(nā)hamātsaryāṇyalpakleśabhuvo daśa||

ete hi kleśā bhāvanāheyenāvidyāmātreṇa manobhūmikenaiva saṃprayujyante|
eṣāṃ tu lakṣaṇamupakleśacintāyāṃ pañcame'dhyāye'bhidhāyiṣyate||

kathaṃ puṇa(na)ridaṃ vijñāyate cittādarthāntarabhūtāścaitasikāḥ ? cittameva hi tadvedanādināmabhirvyapadiśyata ityevaṃ ceṣyamāne buddhasūtramanulomitaṃ bhavati| yaduktaṃ bhagavatā-“ṣaḍdhāturayaṃ bhikṣavaḥ puruṣapudgalaḥ” ityatra vijñānadhāturevoktaḥ| tasmānnārthāntarabhūtāścaitasikā iti bhadantabuddhadevaḥ| taṃ pratīdamabhidhīyate-

[116] pṛthivyādi yathā dravyaṃ nīlādiguṇayogataḥ|
taistairviśeṣyate śabdaiścaittayogānmanastathā||

yathā hi pṛthivīdhāturabdhāturvā rūparasagandhādyupādāyarūpairviśeṣyate| nīlā gra(grā)vāṇaḥ, nīlamudakaṃ madhurā drākṣā madhurāḥ kharjūrā madhurataro guḍa ityevaṃ sukhitaṃ cittaṃ duḥkhitaṃ cittaṃ samāhitaṃ cittaṃ sotsāhaṃ kusīdaṃ mūḍhaṃ raktaṃ dviṣṭamityevamādibhiḥ śabdaiścaitasikairdharmairyogādviśeṣyate| sādhyasamatvādayuktamiti cet| na| uktottaratvāt| vihitamatra- bhūtabhū(bhau)tikānyatvacintāyāmuttaramiti| tasmādviśeṣapratyayānāmanākasmikatvātsiddhamanyatvaṃ caitāsikānāmiti|

itaśca cittacaitasikānyatvam-

[117] bhūtabhautikanānātvaṃ svarūpehākṛtaṃ yathā|
tathaiva cittacaittānāṃ pṛthaktvamupadhāryatām||

yathā khalu bhūtānāṃ bhautikasya ca rūpasya svabhāvabhedāt, kriyābhedāccānyatvam; tathā cittasya caittānāṃ ca svabhāvakriyābhedādanyatvaṃ draṣṭavyam||

[118] yathā saṃbandhisaṃbandhādvikāro'mbhasi lakṣyate|
tathā saṃsargisaṃsargāccetovikṛtirīkṣyatām||

yathā khalu vahniharītakīguḍalavaṇādidravyasaṃbandhādvikāro'mbuni dṛśyate, uṣṇamamblaṃ kaṣāyaṃ madhuraṃ lavana(ṇa)miti| tadvaccaitasikasaṃbandhāccittamapi sukhitaṃ duḥkhitaṃ prasannamabhyunnataṃ sālokaṃ sāndhakāramiti|

sūtre'pi cānyatvamuktam-“saṃjñā ca vedanā ca caitasika eṣa dharmaḥ” iti||

idamidānīṃ vaktavyam| yugapadutpannānāṃ cittacaitasikānāṃ dharmāṇāṃ kathaṃ caitasikā dharmā ityucyante ? ko vā dharmārthaḥ? tadapadiśyate-

[119] guṇo viśeṣaṇaṃ dharmo mātrāvṛttistathāśrayī|
ityevamādayaḥ śabdāḥ pradhānāpekṣavṛttayaḥ||

pradhānaṃ hi dravyaṃ viśeṣyabhūtamapekṣyaḥ(kṣya) guṇadharmaviśeṣeṇa mātrāvṛttayaḥ śabdāḥ pravartante| ki puṇa(na)ratra pradhānam ?

[120] cittaṃ pradhānameteṣāṃ

kuta iti cet|

vastumātragrahādibhiḥ|

vastūpalabdhimātraṃ hi cittaṃ tenopalabdhe vastuni saṃjñāsmaraṇe lakṣaṇānusmaraṇābhinirūpaṇādayo viśeṣāḥ saṃjñāprajñāsmṛtyādibhirgṛhyante| ‘ādi’grahaṇādatrātmābhiniveśādrājasthānīyatvācca| kiñca,

bījaṃ caitatpravṛttīnāṃ śuddhisaṃkarayorapi||

uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“cittasaṃkleśātsattvāḥ saṃkliśyante | cittavyavadānahetorviśudhyante” iti| tasmātpradhānaṃ cittam| yathoktam-

“dūraṅgamamekacaramaśarīraṃ guhāśayam|
ye citta(ttaṃ) damayiṣyanti te mokṣyante mārabandhanāt||”

tatra dūraṅgamaṃ śāstuḥ sarvalokadhātusthavineyakāryakaraṇāt| ekacaraṃ yugapad dvitīyacittābhāvāt| aśarīraṃ mūrtyabhāvāt, kriyāmātrānumeyasvabhāvatvācca| guhāśayaṃ śarīrabalena| tadvṛttivyakteriti| tasya dharmāḥ saṃprayogiṇaścaitasikā iti|

vyākhyātāḥ pañcaprakārāścaittāḥ| anye'pi cāniyatāḥ paṭhyante-vitarkavicārakaukṛtyamiddhādayaḥ|

tatredaṃ vaktavyam| kasmiṃścitte kati caittā bhavanti ?

kāmāvacaraṃ tāvat pañcaprakāraṃ cittam| kuśalam, akuśalaṃ dvividhamāveṇikamanyatkleśasaṃprayuktaṃ ca| avyākṛtaṃ dvividhaṃ nivṛtānivṛtāvyākṛtākhyam||

tatra tāvatkāmāvacaraṃ cittamavaśyaṃ savitarkasavicāram| atastat

[121] abhyudgacchati kāmāptaṃ dharmairdvādaśabhiḥ saha|
akliṣṭāvyākṛtaṃ cittaṃ raśmivāniva raśmibhiḥ||

kāmāvacaramanivṛtāvyākṛtaṃ cittaṃ daśabhirmahāmaumairvitarkavicārābhyāṃ ca sahāvaśyamudeti||

[122] tathāṣṭādaśabhiścittairnivṛtaṃ jāyate manaḥ|

satkāyāntagrāhadṛṣṭisamprayuktaṃ cittaṃ kāmadhātau nivṛtāvyākṛtam| tatrāṣṭādaśa caitasikā bhavanti| daśamahābhaumāḥ[ṣaṭ kleśamahābhaumāḥ] vitarkavicārau ca| dṛṣṭirnādhikā pūrva[vat]|

dvāviṃśatyā sahāvaśyaṃ śubhaṃ bhavati mānasam||

daśamahābhaumāḥ daśakuśalamahābhaumāḥ vitarkavicārau ca||

[123] cetasossaha viṃśatyā cittamutpadyate'śubham|

yadakuśalaṃ cittamāveni(ṇi)kaṃ tatra viṃśatiścaittāḥ-daśamahābhaumāḥ ṣaḍle(kle)śamahābhaumā dvāvakuśalamahābhaumau vitarko vicāraśca| āveṇikaṃ nāma cittaṃ yatrāvidyaiva kevalā nānyaḥ kleśo'sti rāgādiḥ|

dṛṅmohamātrayuktaṃ yat

dṛṣṭiyukte'pyakuśale viṃśatirya evāveni(ṇa)ke| nanu ca dṛṣṭiradhikā ? nādhikā, prajñāviśeṣa eva hi kaścid dṛṣṭirityucyate| sa ca mahābhaumeṣu paṭhitaḥ|

kaḥ puṇa(na)rayaṃ vitarkaḥ ko vā vicāraḥ ? vitarko ṇā(nā)ma cittaudāryalakṣaṇaḥ saṃkalpadvitīyanāmā viṣayanimittaprakāravikalpī saṃjñāpavanoddhatavṛttiḥ, audārikapañcavijñānakāyapravṛttihetuḥ| vicārastu cittasaukṣmyalakṣaṇo manovijñānapravṛttyanukūla(laḥ)| ityetau dvau dharmau kāmāvacare cetasi sarvasminniyamenotpadyete|

tadidamatisāhasaṃ vartate yadviruddhayorapi dvayordharmayorekatra citte samavadhānaṃ pratijñāyate| na hyetalloke dṛṣṭaṃ yadviruddhayorekatra sahāvasthānamiti kośakāraḥ|

tatra kecidāhuḥ-sarpiryathā'psu niṣṭhyūtaṃ nātiśyāyate nātivilīyate, evaṃ vitarkavicārayogāccittaṃ nātisūkṣmaṃ bhavati nātyudāramityubhayorapi tatra vyāpāraḥ| evaṃ tarhi ṇi(ni)mittabhūtau vitarkavicārāvaudāryasūkṣmatayoḥ prāpnuto yathā''paścātaśca sarpiṣaḥśyānatvavilīnatvayorṇa(rna) puṇa(na)statsvabhāvau|

anye puṇa(na)rāhuḥ-vāksaṃskārā vitarkavicārāḥ sūtre'bhihitāḥ|

“vitarkya vicārya vācaṃ bhāṣate nāvitarkyāvicārya” iti| tatra ya audāryāste vitarkāḥ| ye sūkṣmāste vicārāḥ| yadi caikatra citte'nyo dharma audāriko'nyaḥ sūkṣmaḥ ko'tra virodha iti ? na virodho yadi jātibhedaḥ syāt| ekasyāntu jātau mṛdvadhimātratā yugapanna saṃbhavati| jātibhedo'pyasti sa tarhi vaktavyaḥ| durvaco hyasau| ato mṛdvadhimātratayā vyajyate| naivaṃ vyakto bhavati| pratyekaṃ jātīnāṃ mṛdvadhimātratvāt|

tadidamanghavilāsinīkaṭākṣaguṇotkīrtaṇa (na)kalpaṃ codyamārabhyate| yadanavabudhya tallakṣaṇaṃ codyavidhiḥ mithyā pratārya(ya) te| tayorhi yathoktalakṣaṇayorekasmiṃścetasi sadbhāvamātraṃ pratijñāyate na yugapad vṛttyudrekatālābhaḥ| yathā vidyavidyayoḥ saṃśayanirṇayayośceti tūṣṇīmāsva| mā vidvadbhiravajīhasaḥ svamātmānam|

sā punardṛṣṭistriprakārā mithyādṛṣṭyādyā veditavyāḥ|

krodhādyaistvadhikaṃ vadet||

krodhādyaistūpakleśairadhikaṃ bhavati| sa ca krodhādirupakleśo'dhikaḥ| kleśaiśca saṃprayuktaṃ rāgapratighamānavicikitsābhiśca yuktaṃ cittaṃ tena ca kleśādhikaṃ bhavatītyekaviṃśatirbhavanti||

[124] sarvatra saṃbhavānmiddhaṃ yatra syāttatra nirdiśet|
tadvadeva ca kaukṛtyamadhikaṃ gaṇayetkvacit||

yatra middhaṃ tatra tadevādhikaṃ gaṇayet| yatrāpi tadevādhikamiti ya eṣa kāmadhātau caittānāṃ niyama u[ktasta]taḥ||

[125] sāśubhaṃ middhakaukṛtyaṃ rūpadhātau na vidyate|
dhyānāntare vitarkaśca vicāraścāpi nopari||

na kiñcidakuśalaṃ middhaṃ kaukṛtyaṃ ca prathamadhyānādau vidyate| tena tatra pratighaśāṭhyamadamāyāvarjyāśca krodhādayaḥ, āhrīkyānapatrāpye ca na santi| ya eva prathame dhyāne santi ta eva ‘dhyānāntare’, ‘vitarkaśca na vidyate| pūrvoktāśca na santīti ‘ca’śabdāt| vicāraścāpi nopari|’ dhyānāntarāttūparivicāraścāpi nāsti pūrvoktāśca| ‘ca’śabdāt māyā śāṭhyaṃ ca nāstīti gamyate|

brahmano(ṇo) hi yāvacchāṭhyaṃ paṭhyate, parṣatsaṃbandhāt| sa hi svasyāṃ parṣadi aśvajitā bhikṣuṇā praśnaṃ pṛṣṭaḥ “kutra tāni catvāri mahābhūtānyapariśeṣaṃ nirudhyante” ityaprajānan kṣepamakārṣīt-“ahamasmi brahmā mahābrahmā īśvaraḥ karttā nirmātā sraṣṭā sṛjaḥ pitṛbhūto bhāvānām” iti| gatamidam||

idaṃ vaktavyam| saṃprayuktāḥ saṃskārāḥ kasmāducyante ? tadārabhyate|

[126] saṃprayuktaḥ saṃskāraḥ samatā yasya pañcadhā|
viprayuktaśca boddhavyaḥ samatā yasya nāstyasau||

pañcabhiḥ samatābhiḥ saṃprayuktāḥ saṃprayuktāḥ| tāḥ punarāśrayālambanākārakāladravyasamatākhyāḥ| “yathaiva hyekaṃ cittamevaṃ caittā apyekaikāḥ” iti vistaraḥ| yasya puṇa(na)retāḥ samatā na vidyante sa viprayukta iti||

codakaḥ-kaścidrūpaṃ tarhi viprayuktaṃ prāpnoti, asaṃskṛtaṃ ceti ? saṃpratyucyate|

[127] viśiṣṭāṇā(nā)masadbhāvātprasaṃgo nāsti rūpiṇām|
saṃskāragrahaṇāccaiva khādīnāṃ ṇa(na) prasajyate||

viśiṣṭena khalu nirogeṇa(niyogena) rūpiṣu saṃjñā sanniviśanta iti teṣvaprasaṃgaḥ| saṃskāragrahaṇācca khādiṣu viprayuktasaṃjñā na pravartata iti siddham||

ke punaste viprayuktāḥ saṃskārāḥ ? kiyanto veti ? nahi vayameteṣāṃ svabhāvamupalabhāmahe| nāpi kṛtyam| nacaite dharmā loke prasiddhā nāpi buddhavacane| na vedādiṣu śāstreṣviti| tadatropavyāhrīyate-

[128] prāptyādayastu saṃskārā viprayuktāstrayodaśa|
āptoktisvakriyāliṅgā liṅgameṣāṃ gadiṣyate||

yattāvat svabhāvakriyābhāvāditi| tadatrobhayamabhidhāyiṣyate| yadapi buddhavacane na paṭhyanta iti| tatrāpyāptavacanaṃ sārvajñaṃ vyāhariṣyate| yatta loke na vedādiṣu paṭhyanta iti taccodyam| ye khalu sarvajñaviṣayā dharmāḥ pratisaṃvillābhināṃ buddhivṛttiviṣayamāyāntyāryamaitreyasthaviravasumitrācāryāśvaghoṣapramukhāṇāṃ(nāṃ) ca bodhisattvānāṃ buddhiprasādavidhāyinastejolpānāṃ stanandhayabudvīnāmabhidharmaparīkṣamativṛttīnāṃ ca kathaṃ sāndhakāreṣu manassu gocaratāmāyāntīti||

tatra tāvat

[129ab.] prāptiḥ samanvitirlabdhirdharmavattā vyavasthitiḥ|

prāptarṇā(rnā)ma samanvāgamo lābha iti paryāyaḥ| sarvathā bhāvāñchabdaireva śabdānācaṣṭe| yathaiṃva khalu prāptirityetacchabdagaḍumātraṃ śrūyate tathaiva samanvāgamo lābha ityetadapi padadvayaṃ vāgvastumātramiti na paryāyanāmnā lakṣaṇamudyotitaṃ bhavati| tasmādavyabhicāri tatprasāda(dha)kaṃ liṅgamucyatām| ime brū maḥ| śrota(tra)mavadhatsva manaścaikāgratāyāṃ sanniyuktvā| ‘dharmavattā vyavasthitiḥ|’ dharmāḥ khalu tridhā kuśa[lāḥ].........

............rūpe'pi kuśalayā vijñaptyā vartamānayā yāvadvijñāpayati, atītayā ca samanvāgataḥ|

[130cd.] śrutacintāmayānāṃ ca samāpattidvayasya ca|

śrutacintāmayānāmapi| sahajā paścād bhavati dvayoścāści(ci)tta samāpattyossaha paścād bhavatīti|

[131] ni[:]kleśasaṃskṛtāpūrva(rvaṃ) śubhānāṃ tu rajasvatām|
ādilābhe saha prākca tadūrdhvaṃ vā tridheṣyate||

anāsravānāṃ(ṇāṃ) ca skandhānāṃ, anucitānāṃ ca kuśalasāsravānāṃ(ṇāṃ) na pūrvajā| eṣāmeva yattoktānāṃ ‘tadūrdhvaṃ tu tṛ(tri)dheṣyate|’ yadā tena saṃmukhībhūtā tadā dvidhaiveti vartate||

[132] kliṣṭāṇāṃ kuśalānāṃ ca tadanyeṣāṃ tridhā matā|

kliṣṭāṇāṃ ca skanghānāṃ traiyadhvikī prāptiḥ| ‘kuśalānāṃ ca tadanyeṣāṃ’ tebhyo'nāsravebhyastebhyaścānucittebhyaḥ kuśalasāsravebhyo'nyeṣāṃ kuśalasāsravānāṃ(ṇāṃ) traiyadhvikyeva|

nivṛtāvyākṛtā jñānanirmāṇamanasāṃ tathā||

traiyadhvikīti vartate||

[133] nirvāṇasyādito lābhe nityasyānyasya sarvadā|

nirvāṇasya tatprathamato lābhe dvaiyadhvikyeva| anāgatavartamānālabdhasyātītā'pi| ‘nityasyānyasya sarvadā|’

ajā tavartamānā ca

apratisaṃkhyānirodhasyānāgatavartamānaiva nityam|

kadācittu tridheṣyate||

yena labdhastasya traiyaghvikītyuktametat|

vyākhyāte prāptyaprāptī||

sabhāgatā vaktavyā| keyaṃ sabhāgatā nāma ? nahīha pravacane tīrthyaparikalpitasāmānyaviśeṣapadārthagandho'pyasti| tatkeyaṃ tadabhyāsagateti ? tadidaṃ pratārya (ya)te|

[134] ekārtharuciheturyaḥ sattvānāṃ sa sabhāgatā|

sabhāgatā nāma dravyam| sattvānāmekārtharuciḥ sādṛśyahetubhūtam| nikāyasabhāga ityasya śāstrasaṃjñā| sā punarabhinnā bhinnā ca| abhinnā sarvasatvānāṃ sattvasabhāgatā| sā pratisattvaṃ sarveṣvātmasnehāhāraratisāmyāt| bhinnā punasteṣāmeva sattvānāṃ dhātubhūmigatiyonijātistrīpuruṣopāsakabhikṣuśaikṣāśaikṣādīnāmekārtharucitvabhedapratiniyamahetuḥ| tasyāṃ khalvasatyāṃ sarvāryāṇā(nā)ryalokavyavahārasaṃkaradoṣaḥ prasajyeta| tasyāṃ tu satyāmeṣa doṣo na bhavatītyasti sabhāgatā nāma dharmaḥ, ‘ekārtharucihetuḥ’ iti|

syāccyavetopapadyeta na ca sva[sa]bhāgatāṃ vijahyāt, na [ca] pratilabheteti ? catuṣkoṭikaḥ| prathamā kauṭiḥ-yataścyavate tatravopa[pa]dyamānaḥ| dvitīyā-niyāmamavakrāman, sa hi pṛthagjanasabhāgatāṃ vijahātyāryasabhāgatāṃ pratilabhate| tṛtīyā-gatisaṃcārāt| caturthī-etānākārān sthāpayitvā|

atha pṛthagjaṇa(na)tvasyāsyāśca kaḥ prativiśeṣaḥ ? pṛthagjanasabhāgatā khalūktarūpā| pṛthagjanatvaṃ tu sarvānarthakarabhūtamiti sumahāṃstadviśeṣaḥ| āptavacanenāpi tadanyatvasiddhiḥ| uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“sa ceditthatvamāgacchati manuṣyānāṃ(ṇāṃ) sabhāgatāṃ pratilabhate” iti| na caivaṃ pṛthagjanatvaṃ pratilabhyate vā tyajyate vā|

siddhā sabhāgatā| kośakāraḥ punastāṃ vaiśeṣikaparikalpitajātipadārtheṇa(na) samīkurvan vyaktaṃ pāyasavāyasayorvarṇasādharmyaṃ paśyatīti||

atha kimidamāsaṃjñikaṃ nāma ? tadapadiśyate|

āsaṃjñikaṃ vipāko yaccittopacchedyasaṃjñiṣu||

asaṃjñisattveṣu deveṣūpapannānāṃ yaccittopacche didharmāntaraṃ viprayuktaṃ vipākajamutpadyate tadāsaṃjñikaṃ nāma| yena tatropapannānāṃ cittamanāgatve(te)'dhvani kālāntaraṃ sannirudhyate, notpattuṃ labhate| tatpunarekāntena vipākajasvabhāvam| kasya vipākaḥ ? asaṃjñisamāpatteḥ pūrakasya karmaṇaḥ| keṣu pu[nastat] ? devanikāyeṣu bhavati| tadāha-“asaṃjñiṣu| asaṃjñisattvā nāma devā bṛhatphaladevanikāyasaṃgṛhītā dhyānāntarikāvat|” kiṃ punaste naiva kadācit saṃjñino bhavanti ? bhavantyutpattikāle cyutikāle ca| “prakṛṣṭamapi kālaṃ [sthitvā saha]saṃjñotpādātteṣāṃ sattvānāṃ tasmāt sthānāccyutirbhavati” iti sūtrapāṭhaḥ| te ca tato dīrghasvapnavyutthitā iva cyutvā kāmadhātāvupapadyante, nānyatra| tadupapannānāmavaśyaṃ kāmāvacarā'paraparyāyavedanīyakarmasadbhāvāt| yathottarakauravānāṃ(ṇāṃ) devopapattivedanīyaṃ karmeti||

kā punarasāvasaṃjñisamāpattiriti ? tadapadiśyate-

[135] śubhā'saṃjñisamāpattirdhyāne'ntye cittarodhinī|

āsaṃjñikamavyākṛtam| vipākaphalatvāt| iyaṃ tu śubhāḥ(bhā)| sā punariyaṃ ‘dhyāne'ntye’ caturthadhyānasaṃgṛhītetyarthaḥ| ‘cittarodhinī’, yathaiva tatphalaṃ cittasannirodhi tathaiveyamapi cittasaṃrodhinī| cittagrahaṇācca caittānāmanuktasiddhirādityāstagamane kiraṇāstagamanavat|

kimarthaṃ puṇa(na)retāṃ yogiṇaḥ(naḥ) samāpadyante ?

niḥsṛtīcchāpravṛttitvāt

te hi nissaraṇasaṃjñāpūrvakeṇa manaskāreṇa tāṃ samāpadyante mokṣakāṅkṣayā| sā punariyam-

nāryasya

āryā hi tāmapāyasthānamiva manyante| pṛthagjanāstu kecinmokṣasthānamiti|

kiṃ puṇa(na)riyamupapattyā vā vairāgyeṇa vā labhyate ? netyāha| kiṃ tarhi ?

āpyā prayogataḥ||

yatnena tāmutpādayatīti||

[136] nirodhākhyā tu vijñeyā vijihīrṣorbhavāgrajā||

nirodhasamāpattirapi cittacaittānāṃ dharmāṇāṃ kañcitkālamutpattisannirodhinī| sā punariyaṃ vihārasaṃjñāpūvakena(ṇa) manasikāreṇa nirvāṇasadṛśaṃ sukhamanubhavitukāmairyogibhiḥ saṃmukhīkriyate| ‘bhavāgrajā’ ceyaṃ samāpattiḥ|

śubhā'ryaṃsya prayogāpyā dvivedyā'niyatā matā||

dvayoḥ kālayorvedyā ‘dvivedyā’| upapadyavedanīyā cāparaparyāyavedanīyā ca| aniyatavedanīyā ceyam| yo hyetāmutpādya pariṇi(ni)rvāti sa nāsyā vipākaṃ pratisaṃvedayate| tasyā hi bhavāgre catuskandhako vipāko vipacyate| āryaścaitāmutpādayituṃ śaknoti nānāryaḥ| ucchedabhīrutvācchāśvatadṛṣṭiprahānā(ṇā)dāryamārgavalotpādanācca| āryasyāpi ceyaṃ prayogalabhyā na vairāgyalabhyeti|

atra punaḥ kośakāraḥ pratijānīte-“sacittikeyaṃ samāpattiḥ” iti| “samāpatticittameva hi taccittāntaraviruddhamutpadyate| yena kālāntaramanyasya cittasyāpravṛttimātraṃ bhavati| tadviruddhāśrayāpādanāt sā'sau samāpattiriti prajñāpyate|”

[137] cetaścatuṣṭayāyogādāgamādupapattitaḥ|
nirveditamanobhāvātsiddhyatīyamacittikā||

bhavāgre khalu catvāri cittāni vidyante| vipākajaṃ nivṛtāvyākṛtaṃ kuśalamupapattilābhikaṃ prāyogikaṃ ca| tebhyaścaturbhyaḥ kataraccittaṃ yannirodhasamāpannasyānyacittanirodhītyucyate ?

tatra tāvadvipākajaṃ tatratyāṃ .............................

“.............dharme pratipattyevājñāmārādhayati| nāpi maraṇakālasamaye| bhedācca kāyasyātikramya devān kabaḍīkārabhakṣānanyatamasmin divye manomaye kāya upapadyate| sa tatropapannaḥ [abhokṣṇaṃ] saṃjñāveditanirodhaṃ samāpadyate ca vyuttiṣṭhate ca| asti caitatsthānamiti yathābhūtaṃ prajānāti” iti|

atra sthavira udāyī sthaviraśāri[pu]tramidamavocat-“mā tvamāyuṣmannevaṃ vocaḥ|” sa hi manyate sma bhāvāgrīkīyaṃ samāpattirdivyaśca manomayaḥ kāyaścaturthaghyānabhūmika ukto bhagavatā tatkathametadupapatsyate| tadetad bhadantodāyinā parihāni(ṇi)majānānenābhidharmasaṃmūḍhena pratyuktaḥ sa bhagavatā paramābhidhā makeṇāvasādanārthamabhihitaḥ-“tvamapi mohapuruṣa śāriputreṇa bhikṣuṇā sārdhaṃ gabhbhīre'bhidharme saṃlapituṃ manyase ?” [iti]

nikāyāntarīyāścaturthaghyānabhūmikāmapi nirodhasamāpattimicchanti| teṣāṃ vinā parihānyā(ṇyā) siddhatyetatsūtra[m]| ye (e)tadeva tu na siddhyati-caturthadhyānabhūmikāpyasāvastīti| katham ? “navānupūrvasamāpattayaḥ” iti sūtre vacanāt| prāptakāmavaśitvāttu santaḥ paścādvilaṃdhyāpi vyutkrāntasamāpattiṃ samāpadyanta iti||

vyākhyāte samāpattī|

[138] gatiprajñaptyupādānamāyuścittoṣmaṇoḥ sthitiḥ|
āgamādyuktitaścaiva dravyatastatsadiṣyate||

āyurjīvitamityanarthāntaram| uktaṃ hyabhidharme-“jīvitendriyaṃ katarat ? traidhātukamāyuḥ” iti| tatpunaḥ ‘gatiprajñaptyupādānaṃ’ vipākajasvabhāvatvāt| uktaṃ hi sūtre-“nirvṛtte vipāke nāraka iti saṃkhyāṃ gacchati| evaṃ yāvannavasaṃjñānāsaṃjñāyatanopagasaṃkhyāṃ gacchati” iti| na cānyadindriyaṃ vipākajaṃ traidhātuka vyāpyasti yajjanmaprabandhā'vicchedena vartamānaṃ gatiprajñaptyupādānaṃ syāt, anyatra jīvitendriyāt|

tatpunarastīti kathaṃ gamyate ? āgamādyuktitaśca| āgamastāvadayam-

“āyuruṣmātha vijñānaṃ yadā kāyaṃ jahatyamī|
apaviddhastadā śete yathā kāṣṭhamacetanam||”

sarvaṃ hi jīvitendriyaṃ kāmadhātāvavaśyaṃ kāyendriyoṣmasahacariṣṇu| tattvavaśyaṃ vijñānasahavarti nāpi cakṣurādīndriyasahavarti| rūpadhātau tu sarvaṃ kāyādipañcendriyasahavarti| na tvavaśyaṃ cittasahacariṣṇa| ārūpyadhātau tu sarvaṃ vijñānasahavarti, anyatra nirodhasamāpatteḥ|

jīvitendriyaṃ gatiprajñaptyupādānamastīti dravyam| anyathā hi kuśalanivṛtte cetasi nirmalo(le) vā'dhobhaume tadgatiprajñaptyupādānavipākajaṃ kiṃ kalpyeta yatsadbhāvādasau tato na pracyutaḥ syāt ? na ca śakyaṃ pratijñātumanāsravānā(ṇā)[ma]dhobhūmivijñānabījaṃ tadgatisaṃjñaptyupādānaṃ kalpayitum, anāsravasya cittasya samucchedāya pravṛttatvāt| na cānyadvijñānaṃ tadbhaumaṃ śakyaṃ kalpayituṃ manovijñānadhātuvyatiriktasyānākāramālambanasya vijñānasyāprasiddhatvāt| manodhāturiti cet| na| manovijñānadhātorevāvasthāntare tannāmaprajñapteḥ| yuktirapi-cakṣurādivattadādhipatyaviśeṣāt|

“samādhibalena karmajaṃ jīvitāvedhaṃ nirvartyāyuḥ saṃskārādhiṣṭhānajam, āyurna vipākaḥ” iti kośakāraḥ| tatra kimuttaramiti ? na tatrāvaśyamuttaraṃ vaktavyaṃ yasmānnaitatsūtre'varati, vinaye na saṃdṛśyate, dharmatāṃ ca viloma yati| tasmād bālavacanavadadhyupekṣyametat|

kathaṃ tāvatsūtre nāvatarati, vinaye na saṃdṛśyate ? sūtre hyaktam- “asthānamanavaka śo yatprahāna(ṇa)hetorvā upakramahetorvā apakvaṃ paripācayet, paripakvaṃ vā anyena nayena nayet” iti vistaraḥ|

vinaye'pi “niyatavedanīyaṃ tri[prakā]raṃ karma sadevakenāpi lokena na śakyaṃ vyāvartayitum” iti parigrahaḥ|

abhidharme'pi sarvāparimitamāyurākṣipyate| tasyāpakṣālāḥ kālasthānāntarāvasthānādiṣu niyamyante| ityevaṃ tāvadāgamādapetaṃ nottarārham|

tathāpi tu yuktimaduttaramucyate| yadi bhagavān samādhibalena svecchayā[']pūrvaṃ sattvaṃ savijñānakaṃ sendriyamutpādayet, svātmano vā jīvitamanākṣiptaṃ prākkarmabhiryogabalenākṣipet, tato buddho bhagavānnārāyanī(ṇī)kṛtaḥ syāt apūrvasattvanirmāṇāt| sa ca kāruṇikatvānneva pariṇi(ni)rvāyāt, śāsanaṃ(na)sambhedasaṃdehāṃśca cchindyāt| tasmādvaitulikaśāstrapraveśadvāramārabdhaṃ tena bhadantenetyadhyupekṣa metat|

atha kimāyuḥkṣayādeva maraṇaṃ bhavatyāhosvidanyathā'pi ? prajñaptyāmuktam-“astyāyuḥkṣayānmaraṇaṃ na puṇyakṣayādibhiḥ? catuṣkoṭikaḥ| prathamā koṭiḥ-āyuviṃpākasya karmaṇaḥ paryādānāt| dvitīyā-bhogavipākasya| tṛtīyā-ubhayoḥ| turthī-viṣamāparihāreṇa|

jñānaprasthāna uktam-“āyuḥ santatyupanibaddhaṃ vartata iti vaktavyam ? sakṛdutpannaṃ tiṣṭhatīti vaktavyam ? āha-kāmāvacarāṇāṃ sattvānāmasaṃjñisamāpattiṃ nirodhasamāpattiṃ vā samāpannānāṃ santatyupanibaddhaṃ vartata iti vaktavyam| samāpannānāṃ santatyupanibaddhaṃ vartata iti vaktavyam| samāpannānāṃ rūpārupyāvacarāṇāṃ ca sattvānāṃ sakṛdutpannaṃ tiṣṭhatīti vaktavyam||”

kaḥ puṇa(na)rasya bhāṣitasyārthaḥ ? yasyāśrayopaghātādupadhātastatsantatyadhīnatvāt prathamam| yasyāśrayopaghāta eva nāsti tadyathotpannāvasthānād dvitīyam| sāntarāyaṃ prathamaṃ nirantarāyaṃ dvitīyamiti kāśmīrāḥ| tasmādastyakālamṛtyuḥ|

sūtra uktam-“catvāra ātmabhāvapratilambhāḥ| astyātmabhāvapratilambho yatrātmasaṃcetanā krāmati na parasaṃcetanā” iti catuṣkoṭikaḥ| ātmasaṃcetanāvakrāmati kāmadhātau krīḍāpramoṣakāṇāṃ devānāṃ manaḥpradoṣakāṇāṃ ca devānām| teṣāṃ hi praharṣamanaḥpradoṣābhyāṃ tasmātsthānāccyutibhaṃvati, nānyathā| buddhānāṃ ceti vaktavyam, svayaṃmṛtyutvāt| parasaṃcetanaiva krāmati garbhāṇḍāgatānām| ubhayam-anyeṣāṃ kāmāvacarāṇāṃ prāyeṇa| nobhayam-sarveṣāmantarābhavikānāṃ rūpārūpyāvacarāṇāmekatīyānāṃ ca kāmāvacarāṇām| tadyathā nārakāṇāṃ ca darśaṇa(na)mārgamaitrīnirodhasamāpattisamāpannānāṃ rājarṣijinadūtajinādiṣṭaprabhṛtīnāṃ sarveṣāṃ ca caramabhavikānāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ mātustadgarbhāyāścakravartiṇa(na)śca tadgarbhāyāḥ|“

vyākhyātaṃ jīvitendrim||

saṃskṛtalakṣaṇānīdānīṃ vyākhyāyiṣyante| tāni puṇaḥ (naḥ) kāni kiyanti veti ? tadupavyākhyāyate-

[139] jātiḥ sthitirjarāṇā(nā)śaḥ saṃskṛtāṅkacaṣṭatuyī|

etāni khalu catvāri saṃskṛtalakṣaṇāni bhagavatā'bhidharme'bhihitāni| etānyeva vineyaprayojanavaśāt sūtre sthityanyathātvamekīkṛtya trīṇyuktāni| gāthāyāṃ tvebhyo'ṅgadvayaṃ sāmarthyādgamyamānamantarṇīya pradarśyate| sthitirhi dharmāyogamicchantī taddharmamupaguhyāvatiṣṭhate| sā ca tathā pravartamānā lokasya cittonnativiśeṣaṃ janayati| tato bhagavatā'nyathātvākhyayā jarayā sahoktā śrīriva kālakarṇyānubaddhā saṃvegānukūlā bhaviṣyatītyeṣo'rtha[vi]ṣayo dṛśyate| tasmāccatvāri| itaśca-

catvāri sthitināstitve hetutvādyaprasiddhitaḥ||

yadi hi dharmasya sthitirṇa(rna) syāt, tasyātmanyavasthitasya hetvākhyaḥ śaktiprabhāvaviśeṣo na syāt| anityatāgra[sta]sya ca notpaktiśaktirityataśca kriyāṃ na kuryāt| kriyā'bhāvātphalābhāvaḥ syāt| phalārthaścāyamārambhaḥ| tasmādāstikairṇā(rnā)stikapakṣaṃ vikṣipya sthitiḥ pratigṛhyata iti siddham||

catvārīti na siddhyanti jarābhāvāt| bhavatu sthitiḥ, jarā tu sarvathā na yujyate| katham ? uktaṃ hi-

”tathātvena jarāsiddhiraṇya(nya)thātve'nya eva saḥ|
tasmānai(nnai)kasya bhāvasya jarā nāmopapadyate||”

taṃ pratīdamucyate-

[140] śaktihānerjarāsiddhiḥ

unmiṣito hi dharmo jāyate hṛṣitaḥ phalamākṣipatīti| tasya yadi jarasā śaktirna vihanyeta sa dvitīyamapi phalamākṣipeta| na ca śaknotyākṣeptum | tasmādgamyate kaścijjarākhyaḥ śatruastaṃ jarjarīkṛtyopahṛtasāmarthyamanityatāpiśācyāḥ samarpayatīti yuktamuktam ‘śaktihānerjarāsiddhiḥ’ iti| naitadyuktamuktaṃ pariṇāmadoṣaprasaṅgāt| evaṃ laghvācakṣāṇena bhavatā sāṃkhyīyaḥ pariṇāmo'bhyupagato bhavati| nābhyupagataḥ, yasmāt-

nānyatvāt pariṇāmitā|

anya eva hi no jarākhyo dharmo, anyaśca dharmī| sāṃkhyasya tvavasthitasya dharmiṇaḥ svātmabhūtasya dharmāntarasyotsargaḥ svātmabhūtasya cotpādaḥ pariṇāma iti|

kathaṃ puṇaḥ(naḥ) kṣaṇikasya dharmasya śaktihānirbhavati ? evam-yasmādasyājahadātmakasya-

ekakāritranāśābhyāṃ śaktihāniḥ prasiddhyati||

yena khalu dārḍhyeṇo(no)peto yamekaṃ phalamākṣipate, yadi tenaiva yuktaḥ syād dvitīyamapyākṣipet| na cainaṃ śaktimantamanityatā hiṃsyāt| tasmād gamyate'nyathībhūto'yamanityatāvyāghrīmukhaṃ praviśati| ityekaṃ phalamākṣipya naśyatītyuktametat-‘ekakāritranāśābhyāṃ śaktihāniḥ prasiddhyati|’

na prasiddhyati, nirhetukatvādvināśasya| ye hyarthatmāno hetumantaste khalvanityā dṛṣṭāḥ| katham ? aṃkuravat| na vināśasya vināśo'sti, tasmādahetukaḥ| kiñca, ye cārthātmānaḥ paścādbhavanti teṣāṃ pūrvaheturasti tadyathā bhasmano bījādisaṃyogaḥ| na ca vināśasya heturasti| tasmādasau na paścādbhavatīti| tatra yaduktaṃ jātasya sthityanyathātvamapekṣya vināśo bhavatīti tadayuktam| atra pratyavasthānam-

[141] sati janmani tadbhāvād dravyakāritranāśataḥ|
āgamādupapatteśca vināśo'pi sahetukaḥ|

saheturvināśa iti sthāpanā| kutaḥ ? ‘sati janmani tadbhāvāt |’ uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“asmin satīdaṃ bhavati| yāvadavidyāpratyayāḥ saṃskārāḥ |” sati cotpattimati vināśo bhavati| tasmātsahetukaḥ| yasya punarahetukastasya prāgapi janmanaḥ so'stīti janmaiva na syāt, viruddhānāmanyataropapatteḥ| tayoravirodhādvā tadvyapadeśānupapattiratāddharmyaṃ ca saṃskārāṇāmiti|

dharmā(rma)ṇā(nā)stitvamātraṃ vināśa iti cet| na| tadastitvapūrvakatvāt| astitvapūrvakaṃ hi tannāstitvamiti tadapi sahetukam| nāsti kiñcittaditi cet| na| astitvavirodhānupapatteḥ| kiñca, bhāvavirodhitve satyabhāvasya bhavatāpatteḥ| avi[rodhi]tve bhāvanityatvaprasaṃgādubhayābhāve vāṅmātratvāt| kā caiṣā vāco yuktiḥ sati ca bhavati tadviśeṣyaścātadvirodhī ca| na ca kiñcidityevaiṣā vācoyuktirasaṃbaddhāḥ(ddhā)| nirarthikā caiṣā vācoyuktiḥ| ataste bhāvābhāvo vāgvastumātram| pratiṣedhasāmarthātpratiṣeghyo bhāvo'stīti cet| nāsti| śaśaviṣāṇavacchabdo gaḍumātratvātpratiṣedhadvayārthānupapatteśca| kiñca, kāritramātranāśācca| viruddhapratyayasānnidhye kriyāmātraṃ hi no[de]ti, naśyati| tasmānnā[na]rthavān vināśaśabdaḥ| kutaśca ? āgamādupapatteśca|

uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“utpannānāmakuśalānāṃ dharmāṇāṃ nirodhāya” iti| tathoktam-“ihaikatīyaḥ prāṇātipātiko bhavati” iti vistaraḥ| tathā-“tisraḥ saṃvartanyo'nalajalānilākhyā yābhiḥ krameṇa yāvacchubhakṛtsnā vinaśyante” iti| tathā-“jātipratyayaṃ jarāmaraṇam” iti|

upapattirapi| janmano'pyahetukatvaprasaṃgāt| yadi khalvasati sadbhāve'pyahetuko vināśaḥ, janmāpyahetukaṃ bhavatviti| tatsamarthahetusāmagrīsannidhāne janmadarśaṇā(nā)t, tatsahetukatvamiti cet| na| tadvināśe tulyatvāttasyāpi samarthahetusāmagryantarasannidhānābhyupagamāt|

vyākhyātāni lakṣaṇāni||
nāmakāyādayo vaktavyāḥ| na khalu vaktavyāḥ| na hi te śabdādanye vidyante, svabhāvakriyābhāvāditi| tadupadarśanārthamidamārabhyate|

[142] vākchabdādhīnajanmānaḥ svārthapratyāyanakriyāḥ|
saṃjñādyaparaṇā(nā)mānastrayo nāmādayaḥ smṛtāḥ||

viprayuktāḥ khalu nāmādayaḥ saṃskāraskandhasaṃgṛhītāḥ| vāk tu rūpaskandhasaṃgṛhītā vāggīrniruktirityarthaḥ| te ca tadadhīnotpattayo niruktyadhīnārthapravṛttayaśca jñānavadarthasya pratinidhisthānīyāḥ| nirukti[:]nāma saṃjñā| nārthāṇā(nā)mekasaṃjñatvāt| yathā tu cakṣurvijñānakāyādayaḥ pañcarūpādyāyattavṛttayaḥ, tadvatte'pi ‘vākchabdādhīnajanmānaḥ’ | ataścoktam-”vāṅ nāmni pravartate, nāmārthaṃ dyotayati |” iti| vācā saha kacaṭatapādayo jāyante tayā nidhīyanta iti| prativarṇānuvartinīnāṃ vācāṃ sāvayavatve'pi sati tadabhidhānānupapattiriti cet| na| śabdabhedasaṃcayasya pratyayatve tadabhidhānasāmarthyopapatteḥ|

kiñca, kriyayā ca tadastitvaṃ nirdhāryate| kā ca setyucyate| svārthapratyāyanaṃ kriyā| svaṃ svamarthaṃ pratyāyayatyapauruṣeyatvānnāmārthasaṃbandhasyaiṣa teṣāṃ kṛtāntaḥ|

te punarnāmasaṃjñādyaparanāmānaḥ|
tatra nāmaparyāyaḥ saṃjñākaraṇaṃ yathā ghaṭa iti|

padaparyāyo vākyam| yathā ghaṭo dṛśyata iti| yena kriyāguṇakālaviśeṣā gamyanta iti kvacit| “yāvadbhirarthavadbhiḥ padairvivakṣitārthaparipūrirbhavati tāvatāṃ samūhaḥ padam” ityābhidharmikāḥ|

vyañjanaparyāyo'kṣaraṃ yathā ka ityetadakṣaraṃ niravayavamamūrtamapratighaṃ rūpalakṣaṇavimuktaṃ traikālikārthapratyāyanasamarthaṃ manovada pratihatagamanamiti|

na, asiddhatvāt| na khalu vākchabdādanye nāmādayaḥ siddhyanti| vākchabda evārtheṣu saṃjñākartṛkṛtāvadhiḥ smṛtyā gṛhītāvayavasamudāyaḥ śroturarthaṃ pratyāya[ya]tīti kimanyairnāmādibhiḥ parikalpitaiḥ ? tatredaṃ pratyavasthīyate-

[143] anye nāmādayaḥ śabdādaprāptārthaprakāśanāt|

śabdo hiparamānu(ṇu)saṃcayaḥ| sa prāpyārthaṃ prakāśayet, pradīpavat| nājātadhvastasvargādideśasthānā(na)rtha(rthā)n prāptuṃ śaknoti| tasmātpratipadyasva [na] śabdo'rthaṃ pratyāyatīti| [i]taśca kramayaugapadyapratyāyanāsaṃbhavāt| katham ? balvajavat | iha hi bahūni balvajadravyāṇi pratyekamasamarthāṇi(ni) saṃbhūya rajvā(jjvā)tmanāvasthitāni dārvādyākarṣaṇakriyāsāmarthyopetāni bhavanti| na caivaṃ vākyātmānaḥ śabdāḥ buddhyupagṛhotāvayavasamudāyasaṃkṣepāḥ kramalabdhajanmānaḥ pratyekamarthaṃ(rtha)pratyāyanasamarthāḥ, ṇā(nā)pi saṃbhūya pratyāyayanti, saṃbhūyānavasthānād balvajavat| tasmātkramayaugapadyātpratyāyanā'saṃbhavānna śabdāḥ kañcidarthaṃ pratyāyayantīti siddham|

itaśca, pratyāyyapratyāyakādisaṃbandhānupapatteḥ| katham ? pradīpavat| tadyathā pradīpastamasi ghaṭādipratyāyyapratyāyakaśaktiyukto ghaṭadarśaṇā(nā)rthibhirupādīyate na ca kaścicchabdaḥ kasmiṃścidarthe kenacitsaṃbandhiviśeṣeṇa niyatavṛttiḥ, yastaṃ gṛhītvā pratyāyayemeti|

tatra tāvat| [na] pradīpasyai(sye)va pratyāyyapratyāyakasaṃbandho'sti| akṛtasaṃketasyāpratyāyanāt| nāpi saṃyogākhyaḥ saṃbandho'sti sadasatostadanupapatteḥ| guṇatvācceti kasmiścinna samavāyākhyaḥ| ata evākāśaguṇatvācceti kaścit| tasmātpratyāyyapratyāyanādisaṃbandhānupapatteḥ yadagadiṣma na śabdo'rthaṃ pratyāya[ya]tīti tatsamyagabhyadhāmeti |

sāmayikaḥ śabdo'rthapratyāyanaliṅgamiti cet| na| sādhyatvādvitarkavicārādhīnajanmanaḥ śabdasya kramayaugapadyapratyāyanānupapatteśca| prativarṇaviṣayā smṛtiḥ pratyāyayatīti cet| na| tatsamānadoṣatvātpūrvapakṣotsargatvācca| saṃskāra iti cet| na| asiddhatvāduktottaratvāca(cca)| yādṛcchikasaṃvṛttiśabdamātrābhyupagame vakṣyamāna(ṇa)doṣaprasaṃgācceti|

kiṃ punarete nāmakāyādayo nityā āhosvidanityā iti ?

anityāste tu vijñeyāḥ

tu śabdo[']nityatvavādaviśeṣa| rtho hetuḥ| ka iti cet| so'yamucyate-

sāpekṣārthavibhāvanāt||

katham ? jñānavat| tadyathā jñānaṃ cakṣurādīn hetūnapekṣyārthaṃ vibhāvayati tadvannāmādayo'pi ghoṣādīn hetūnapekṣyārthaṃ pratyāyayanti| tasmātsāpekṣapratyāyanādanityā iti||

yadi tarhi nāmādayo'rthaṃ pratyāyayanti, tatkathamidaṃ sadbhirapyucyate-‘śabdo'rthaṃ pratyāyayati’ iti ? tadatrābhidhīyate-

[144] svarūpaṃ vedayaṃścchabdo vyañjanādīni ca dhruvam|
arthapratyāyakaḥ prājñarbhaktikalpanayocyate||

āñjasā hi vāṅ nāmni pravartate nāmābhilapatotyarthaḥ| nāma tvarthaṃ dyotayatīti prativarṇānuvartino vāk khalu nāmābhilapanto svañca rūpamudbhāvayantī santānena pravartamānā guṇakalpanayā'rthaṃ pratyāyayatītyapadiśyate| na tvarthaḥ śabdavācyo dyotyo vā|

itaśca na śabdo'rthaṃ pratyāyayati| yasmāt-

[145] paramānu(ṇu)svabhāvatvād ghoṣaikatvaṃ na yujyate|

“edaitau kaṇṭhatālavyau” iti pratijñāyate| na caikasyāna(ṇu)vacanasya viśliṣṭasthānadvaye vṛttirupapadyate| paramāṇusaṃghātasya tūpapadyate| paramāna(ṇa)vo'pi pratyekaṃ[na]pratyāyayanti, digbhāgāstitvanāstitve tadabhāvācceti| samudāyo'pi madhyasthairapratyāyanānumānādantadvayenāpi na pratyāyayatītyadhyavasīyate| na cārthāntaraṃ samudāyibhyaḥ samudāyo'sti| sa kathamarthaṃ pratyāyayiṣyatīti| atītavarṇasamudāyastvantyavarṇāpekṣo manobuddhyopagṛhītasvarūpaḥ saṃbandhinyarthe buddhimutpādayan pratyāyayatīti yuktarūpo vyapadeśaḥ|

atra mīmāṃsā(saka) vaiyyākaraṇau pratyācakṣa(kṣā)te| nāsiddhatvāt| na khalu śabdasya paramānu(ṇu)mayatvaṃ siddham| tasmādanuttarametat| tau pratyabhidhīyate|

tādātmyaṃ pratighātitvāt

pratihanyate khalu śabdaḥ prākārabhittyādiṣu tasmātpratighātī śabda iti| na| asiddhā(ddham)| siddhasādhanādasiddheḥ| yatkhalu bhavatā pratighātitvenāprasiddhaṃ paramānu(ṇu)mayatvaṃ sādhyata ityasadetat| tatredaṃ pratyavasthīyate|

tatsiddhirvaraṇādibhiḥ||

ālāṅgalagrāhebhyaḥ siddhametadgarbhagṛhāntargatena pihite kavāṭe'bhihanyamānāḥ paṭahāḥ dhmāpyamānāśca śaṃkhā na śrūyante| hūṇanāḍonirghoṣeṇa ca nagaraprākārāṇi pātyante| tasmātsiddhena jālmaja(je)nāsiddhasya sādhanamidamāviṣkriyate nāsiddheneti|

yadapyucyate sphoṭaḥ śabdo dhvaniḥ śabdaguṇa iti tatrāpadiśyate-

[146] sphoṭākhyo nāparo ghoṣācchabdo nityaḥ prasiddhyati|

tasmāddhdhaniḥ śabdaḥ sphoṭa ityanarthāntaram| yathā hastaḥ karaḥ pāṇiriti lokaprasiddhametat| tasmāt-

kramavṛtterṇa(rna) śabdena kaścidartho'bhidhīyate||

iti prāgāviṣkṛtametat| tanmā pramoṣīḥ||

yadapyucyate vaiyākaraṇaiḥ śabdo buddhinirgrāhya eṣa vaiśeṣikairapi śrotragrāhyaḥ, śabdaścā(syā)nyatve'pi ca śabdatvādayaḥ śrotreṇa gṛhyanta iti| tayoridamucyate-

[147] na śrutyā śrūyate śabdastadanyā ca gatiḥ śruteḥ|
yo brūyātsa svamātmānaṃ vidvadbhirapahāsayet||

iti| tasmātpratītapadārthako loke dhvaniḥ śabdaḥ| tataścānye nāmādayaḥ sarvārthaviṣayā iti sthāpanā|

[148] pratidyotyaṃ yathāyogaṃ niyatāniyatāśca te|

tatra ya āryayā niruktyā nirucyante dvādaśāyatanaviṣayāste niyatābhidheyaṃ(yasaṃ)bandhāḥ, laukikyāśca kecinniyatābhidheyā nirucyante| ubhaye'pyete kṛtasaṃketasyārthaṃ pratyāyayanti| ye tu yathecchaṃ pitrādibhiḥ kriyante nāmakāyādibhiste hyaniyatā yadṛcchikā ityucyante| tadyathā ḍitthaḍavitthādayaḥ|

prathamāstu buddhotpāda eva pravartante nānyadeti| uktaṃ hi bhagavatā-“tathāgatānāmutpādānnāmapadavyañjanakāyānāmutpādo bhavati” ityetasmāt-

niyatodbhāvanād buddhaḥ sarvajña iti gamyate||

ye hyapaurūṣeyā dhātvāyatanaskandhādyavadyotakāste prathamaṃ buddhaviṣayā eva| tadavabodhācca bhagavānsarvajña ityabhidhīyate| te puṇa(na)rete-

[149] sattvākhyāḥ kāmarūpāptā niṣyandā'vyākṛtāstathā|

sattvākhyā hyete| yaśca dyotayati sa taiḥ samanvāgataḥ| na yo dyotyate| kāmāpta[aḥ] rūpāptāścaite vākchabdādhīnajanmatvāt| naiṣyandikā anivṛtāvyākṛtāścaiva|

yathā caite nāmādayaḥ

tathaiva ca vipākaśca sābhāgyaṃ[prāptayo dvidhā]|

[abhidharmadīpe vibhāṣāprabhāyāṃ vṛttau dvitīyasyādhyāyasya tṛtīyaḥ pādaḥ||]
