pramāṇadvitayādanyapramāṇagaṇadūṣaṇam |

nāpūrvamucyate tattu prayogeṇātra mudrayate ||



iha khalu pramāṇamātre na kecid vipratipadyante | antataścārvākasyāpi saṃpratipatteḥ | pramāṇamātrocchedavādī ca tattadāṅśakya pratividhānādasmadgurubhiravajñātaḥ



pramāṇamapramāṇaṃ ced vicārāvasaro hataḥ |

bruvatā niyataṃ kiñcit sādhyaṃ vā bādhyameva vā ||



tatrāyuktiṃ bruvāṇasya ślāghā sadasi kīdṛśī |

nānumāyāḥ parāyuktiḥ kiṃ siddhaṃ tadanādare ||



svīkṛtā tena setyasmāttanmatyā bādhanaṃ yadi |

abādhane'syāḥ svīkārāttadbhiyā bādhanaṃ katham ||



sādhyaṃ na kiñciditi ced bādhāyā api sādhyatā |

sā'pi neti vaco vyarthaṃ praśnamātre'pi kiṃ phalam ||



phalaṃ yadi giraḥ kvāpi nānyattaccāvabodhanāt |

vācaḥ pratyāyane śaktā nākṣadhūmādi sundaram ||



saṃ(vṛ)tau mānamiṣṭaṃ ced vicāro'pyeṣa saṃvṛtiḥ |

saṃvṛtāvapi neṣṭaṃ ced vadan jetā yathā tathā ||



saṃvṛtiśca vinā mānaṃ vāṅmātreṇa na sidhyati |

mānato yadi duarvāraḥ pramāṇasya parigrahaḥ ||

aniṣṭeścet pramāṇaṃ hi sarveṣṭīnāṃ nibandhanam |

bhāvābhāvavyavasthāṃ kaḥ kartuṃ tena vinā prabhuḥ ||

tadevaṃ pramāṇamātrāpratikṣepe pratyakṣaṃ tāvadādau gaṇanīyam, tanmūlatvādaparapramāṇopapatteḥ | na ca cārvāko'pyanumānamanavasthāpya sthātuṃ prabhavati, vyāpāratrayakaraṇāt |



tacchāstre hi pratyakṣetarasāmānyayoḥ pramāṇetaravidhānaṃ lakṣaṇapraṇayanato vidhātavyam | tacca lakṣaṇaṃ pratyakṣe dharmiṇi lakṣye prāmāṇye pratyetavye svabhāvo hetuḥ | parabuddhipratipattau ca kāyādivyāpāraḥ kāryahetuḥ | paralokapratiṣedhe ca dṛśyānupalambho'ṅgīkartavya iti kathamanumānāpalāpaḥ |

pramāṇāntarasadbhāvapratiṣedhācca kasyacit ||

api ca

arthasyāsaṃbhave'bhāvātpratyakṣe'pi pramāṇatāḥ |

pratibaddhasvabhāvasya taddhetutve samaṃ dvayam ||



ityanumānamapi pramāṇam | prāmāṇyaṃ ca pramāṇāntarāgṛhītaniścitapravṛttiviṣayārthatayā tatprāpaṇe śaktiḥ ||



nanvastu prāpaṇe śaktiḥ prāmāṇyam, paramasaunārthādutpatteḥ, api tvarthadarśanādi(ti) cet | kimidamarthadarśanam | arthasya dharmo dṛśyatvam | jñānasya dharmo draṣṭṛtvam | prathamapakṣe nīlatvavad dṛśyatvasyāpi sādhāraṇatvādekagocaro'rthaḥ sarvagocaraḥ syāt | na hi pratipuruṣamarthānāṃ bhedo nairātmyaprasaṅgāt | dvitīyapakṣe tu kathamanyasmin jñānasvabhāve draṣṭṛtve satyanyasyāsamba(ddha)syārthasya pratyāśā syāt | draṣṭṛtvaṃ dṛśyatvamantareṇānupapadyamānaṃ tadākṣipatīti cet | nanu jñānārthayorutpattisārūpyabalato draṣṭṛdṛśyatvavyavasthā(pa)nametat | anabhyupagame draṣṭṛtvaṃ dṛśyatvaṃ ca na saṃbhavatīti kiṃ kenākṣipyatām | bhavatu vā prakārāntareṇāpi draṣṭṛdṛśyabhāvastathāpi bhede satyavyabhicārastadutpattireva prāptinimittam | sā ca prāpaṇaśaktiḥ pratyakṣānumānayoraviśiṣṭeti pramāṇe eva |



nanvanyadapi śābdopamānādikaṃ pramāṇamasti | tathā hi śabdāccodanārūpādasannikṛṣṭe'rthe svargādau yajjñānamutpadyate tadapi śābdaṃ jñānaṃ pramāṇameva | pratyayitoditavākyaprasūtaṃ ca jñānaṃ pramāṇam | yadāha kumārilaḥ



taccākartṛkato vākyādanyādvā pratyayito (?) ditāt | iti |



tatra yadā śabdasamutthaṃ jñānaṃ pramāṇaṃ tadopādānādibuddhiḥ phalam | yadā tu śabdastadā tadālambanaṃ jñānaṃ phalamiti | naiyāyikasya punaḥ



āptopadeśaḥ śabdaḥ



iti śabdapramāṇalakṣaṇasūtram | tatra śabda iti lakṣyapadam | āptopadeśa iti lakṣaṇapadam | asyāyaṃ saṃkṣepārthaḥ | āptopadiṣṭaḥ śabdaḥ pramāṇamiti | āptaśca sākṣātkṛtaheyopādeyatattvo yathādṛṣṭasya cārthasyācikhyāsayā prayukta upadeṣṭā abhidhīyate | pramāṇaphalavyavasthā ca pūrvavad draṣṭavyeti |



tathā mīmāṃsakānāmupamānaṃ pramāṇam | yaduktaṃ śabarasvāminā upamānamapi sādṛśyamasannikṛṣṭe'rthe buddhimutpādayati | yathā gavayadarśanaṃ goḥ smaraṇasyeti |



asyāyamarthaḥ | ekatra dṛśyamānaṃ sādṛśyaṃ kartṛ | pratiyogyantare dṛśyamānapratiyogisādṛśyaviśiṣṭatayaitatsādṛśyaviśiṣṭo'sau ityasannikṛṣṭe'rthe yāṃ buddhimutpādayati tadupamānaṃ pramāṇamiti | yattadoradhyāhāra iti | tasmāt smaratīti smaraṇaṃ puruṣaḥ | tenāyamarthaḥ - yathā gavaye dṛśyamānaṃ sādṛśyaṃ gāṃ smarato manuṣyasya etatsādṛśyaviśiṣṭo'sau gauriti buddhimutpādayatīti |



na cedamupamānaṃ smaraṇaṃ kartavyam, gavayasādṛśyaviśiṣṭasya gorgoviśiṣṭasya ca sādṛśyasya prameyatvāt | gosādṛśyayorviśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāvasyopamānapramāṇaviṣayasya gogrāhiṇā gavayagrāhiṇā vā pratyakṣeṇa kenacidagrahaṇāt | yadāha bhaṭṭaḥ

pratyakṣe'pi yathā deśe smaryamāṇe ca pāvake |

viśiṣṭasyānyataḥ siddheranumānapramāṇatā ||

pratyakṣeṇāvabuddhe ca sādṛśye gavi ca smṛte |

viśiṣṭasyānyato'siddherupamānapramāṇatā ||



na ca grahaṇamantareṇa smaraṇamasti | tasmānnopamānaṃ smaraṇamataḥ pramāṇamiti | naiyāyikādīnāṃ tūpamānasūtram,

prasiddhasādharmyāt sādhyasādhanamupamānam iti |



asyāyamarthaḥ | prasiddhaṃ sādharmyaṃ yasya tasmād gavayādeḥ sādhyasya saṃjñāsaṃjñisambandhasya sādhanaṃ siddhistadupamānaphalam | samākhyāsambandhapratipattiheturupamānamityarthaḥ | ayamasya prapañcaḥ | yaḥ pratipattā gāṃ jānāti na gavayam, ādiṣṭaśca svāminā gacchāraṇyam gavayamānayāsmāditi, gavayaśabdavācyamarthama jānāno vanecaramanyaṃ vā tajjñaṃ pṛṣṭavān, bhrātaḥ kīdṛśo gavaya iti | tena cādiṣṭaṃ yathā gaustathā gavaya iti | tasya śrutātideśavākyasya kasyāñcidaraṇyānyāmupagatasyātideśavākyārthasmaraṇasahakāri yad gavayasārūpyajñānaṃ tatprathamata evāsau gavayaśabdavācyo'rtha iti pratipattiṃ prastuvānamupamānaṃ pramāṇamiti |



tathārthāpattisaṃjñaṃ pramāṇaṃ mīmāṃsakasya | arthāpattirapi dṛṣṭaḥ śruto vārtho'nyathā nopadyamāno yadarthāntaraṃ parikalpayati | sārthāpattiḥ | yathā jīvati devadatte gṛhābhāvadarśanena bahirbhāvasyārthasya parikalpanā | asyāyamarthaḥ | pratyakṣādibhiḥ ṣaḍbhiḥ pramāṇaiḥ prasiddhoḥ yo'rthaḥ sa yena vinā na yujyate tasyārthasya kalpanamarthāpattiriti | sā ca ṣaṭpramāṇapūrvikā ṣaṭprakāraiveti ||



pratyakṣānumānādipramāṇapañcakābhāvasvabhāvamabhāvākhyaṃ pramāṇam | prameyaṃ ghaṭādyabhāvaḥ | nāstīha ghaṭādīti jñānaṃ ghaṭādyabhāvālambanaṃ phalam | yadāha kumārilaḥ



pratyakṣāderanutpattiḥ pramāṇābhāva ucyate |

sātmano'pariṇāmo vā vijñānaṃ vānyavastuni ||

pramāṇapañcakaṃ yatra vasturūpe na jāyate |

vastusattāvabodhārthaṃ tatrābhāvapramaṇatā || iti ||



etāni ṣaṭ pramāṇāni pratyakṣādīnyasaṃkīrṇasvasvalakṣaṇayogitvādanyonyāpraviṣṭasvabhāvāni pratyetavyānīti ||



atrocyate | codanāyāstāvad vāhye'rthe pratibandhābhāvānna prāmāṇyam | prayogaḥ - yasya yatra pratibandho nāsti na tasya tatra prāmāṇyam | yathā dahane'pratibaddhasya rāsabhasya | apratibaddhāśca bahirarthe vaidikāḥ śabdāḥ iti vyāpakānupalabdhiḥ | na tāvadayamasiddho hetuḥ| śabdānāṃ vastutaḥ pratibandhābhāvāt | pratibaddhasvabhāvatā hi pratibandhaḥ | na ca sā nirnibandhanā, sarveṣāṃ sarvatra pratibaddhasvabhāvatāprasaṅgāt | nibandhanaṃ cāsyāstādātmyatadutpattibhyāmanyannopalabhyate, atatsvabhāvasyātadutpatteśca tatrāpratibaddhasvabhāvatvāt | na hi śabdānāṃ vahirarthasvabhāvatāsti bhinnapratibhāsāvabodhaviṣayatvāt | nāpi śabdā bahirarthādupajāyante, arthamantareṇāpi puruṣasyecchāpratibaddhavṛtteḥ śabdasyotpādadarśanāt |



nanu yogyatayaiva kiñcat pratibaddhasvabhāvamupalabhyate | yathā cakṣurindriyaṃ rūpe | cakṣuḥ khalu vyāpāryamāṇam rūpamevopalabhbhayati | tathaivaite vaidikāḥ śabdāstādātmyatadutpattiviyuktā api yogyatāmātreṇātīndriyamarthaṃ bodhayiṣyanti tatkathaṃ tādātmyatadutpattivirahamātreṇāpratibandho yenaivaṃ vyāpakānupalabdhiḥ sidhyatīti | naiṣa doṣaḥ | yataścakṣurindriyamapi rasādiparihāreṇa rūpa eva prakāśakatvena pratiniyataṃ tatkāryatvāt | rūpaṃ hi cakṣurupakaroti | na sattāmātreṇa cakṣū rūpaṃ prakāśayati, vyavahitasyāpi rūpopalabdhiprasaṅgāt | tasmād rūpād yogyadeśasannihitāt tajjñānajananayogyatāmāsādya cakṣū rūpajñānamutpādayattatkāryamiti vyaktamavasīyate | anyathā tadupakārānapekṣasya tasyāpi tatprakāśananiyamo nopapadyate | na hyanupakāryatvāviśeṣe cakṣū rūpasyaiva prakāśakam, na rasāderiti ghaṭāmupaiti niyamaḥ | ayameva tarhi niyamaḥ kuto yad rūpeṇaiva cakṣurūpakartavyam, na rasādineti | yadi vastuvaśādeva rūpamupakaroti na rasādikam, hanta tarhi yathopakāryatvaṃ prati niyamaścakṣuṣo rūpeṇa, tathā śabdānāmapi svābhāvika evāstu bahirarthapratyāyananiyama iti |



atrocyate | na cakṣuṣaḥ svābhāviko rūpopakāryatāniyamaḥ, kasyacid vastunaḥ svābhāvikatvānupapatteḥ | tathā hi svābhāvikatvaṃ vastudharmasyānujānānaḥ praṣṭavyaḥ - kiṃ svābhāvika iti svato bhavati, āhosvit parataḥ, athāhetutaḥ | yadi svato bhavati, tadasaṅgatam, svātmani kriyāvirodhāt | athāhetutaḥ tadayuktam, ahetordeśādiniyamāyogāt | tasmānna svābhāviko rūpopakāryatāpratiniyamaścakṣuṣaḥ | kiṃnibandhanastarhi svahetupratibaddha iti, brūmaḥ - cakṣūḥ khalu svahetunā janyamānaṃ tādṛśameva janitam yadrūpopakartavyameva bhavati | rūpamapi tādṛśameva svahetunā janitaṃ yattadupakārakasvabhāvam |



śabdānāmapi sa svabhāvaḥ svahetupratibaddho yenaite bāhyārthāvyabhicāriṇa iti cet | na śakyamevamabhidhātum, nityatvābhyupagamādvedavākyānām | athānityatvamabhyupagamyāyamākṣepaḥ parihartumiṣyate, tadapi duṣkaram, doṣāntaraprasaṅgāt | yadi svahetunaiva te niyamārthopadarśanaśaktimanto janitāḥ, tadāvyutpannasamayasyāpi svārthamavavodhayeyuḥ | yathā cakṣuḥ svaheto rūpaprakāśakamutpannaṃ sat prakāśayatyeva rūpamasaṅketavido'pi, na ca śabdāduccaritāt prāgapratītasamayasyāpi viśeṣāvagamaḥ samasti | tasmānna svahetupratibaddhaścakṣurāderiva śabdānāmarthapratipādananiyama iti niścayaḥ ||



atha svahetubhirevāyamīdṛśasteṣāṃ svabhāvo datto yena te saṃketaviśeṣasahāyā eva kamapyarthamavabodhayanti | na tarhi saṅketaparāvṛttau padārthāntaravṛttayo bhaveyuḥ | yadi hyayamagnihotraśabdaḥ saṃketāpekṣo yāgaviśeṣapratipādakaḥ, kathaṃ saṅketānyatvenārthāntaraṃ pratipādayati | na hi kṣityādyapekṣeṇa bījena svahetoraṅkurajananasvabhāvenotpannena rāsabhaḥ śakyo janayitum, tathā śabdo'pi yadarthapratipādananiyatastameva prakāśayet ||



atha tattatsaṅketāpekṣastattadarthapratyāyanayogya evāyaṃ jāta ityucyate | tadapi na prastutopayogi | na hyevamasya prāmāṇyamavatiṣṭhate | yadā hi saṅketenāpuruṣārtha pratipādanamapi saṃbhāvyata eva, tadā na śakyamupakalpayituṃ kimayamabhimatasyaivārthasya dyotako na veti | tarhi vācyavācakalakṣaṇaḥ śabdārthayoḥ saṃbandho bhaviṣyati | tathā cāha



vācyavācakasaṃbandhāḥ santi yadyapi vāstavāḥ |

saṅketairanabhivyaktā na te'rthavyaktihetavaḥ ||



iti cet | nanu tasya vāstavatve'saṅketavido'pyarthapratipattirbhavedityuktam, saṅketāpekṣāyāṃ cārthāntare na pravartetetyādyabhihitam | ataḥ pūrvamevāyaṃ pratyākhyāto vācyavācakalakṣaṇaḥ sambandhaḥ | tasmānna bahirarthe pratibandhaḥ śabdānāmiti nirṇayaḥ ||



tataśca nāsiddho hetuḥ ||



nāpi viruddhaḥ, viparyayavyāptyabhāvāt | tadabhāvaśca sapakṣe vṛttyupadarśanāt | na hi viruddhasya sādharmyavati dharmiṇi sadbhāvo yuktaḥ, sādhyaviparyayasya tatrābhāvāt | na ca vyāpakamantareṇa vyāpyasya saṃbhavaḥ, tatpracyutiprasaṅgāt ||



nāpyanaikāntiko hetuḥ, viparyaye bādhakapramāṇasaṃbhavāt | prāmāṇyapratiṣedhe hi sādhye pramāṇyameva vipakṣaḥ | na ca tasmin pratibandhābhāvalakṣaṇo heturasti, svaviruddhena pratibandhena vyāptatvāt | na khalvayaṃ prādeśikaḥ pramāṇaśabdo jñāneṣu nirnibandhana eva, sarvajñāneṣu prāmāṇyavyapadeśaprasaṅgāt | nibandhanaṃ ca svaviṣayapratibandhādanyannopapadyate | tasmāt pramāṇasya pramāṇavyapadeśaviṣayatvaṃ svaviṣayapratibandhane vyāptam | ataḥ pramāṇe dharmiṇi vipakṣe prāmāṇyasya viruddhavyāptasyopalambhena vipakṣe vyavacchedasiddhernānaikāntiko hetuḥ |



na cānyo doṣaḥ saṃbhavī | tasmānnirastāśeṣadoṣeṇa hetunā yat prasiddhaṃ tadupādeyameva satām (iti) paṇḍitaśrījitāripādaireva vedāprāmāṇye darśitam |



evaṃ ca vaidikaśabdānāṃ pramāṇye niraste tadutthaṃ jñānamapyapramāṇameva | āptapraṇītasya punarvacanasyārthāvyabhicāre tajjanmano jñānasyāvyabhicārasaṃbhave'pi na prāmāṇyamupagantuṃ śakyate, paracittavṛttīnāmaśakyaniścayatvenāptatvāparijñānāt vacanasyāpi tatpraṇītatvāpratipatteḥ | prayogaścātra -



yad yena rūpeṇa na niścitaṃ na tat tena rūpeṇa vyavahriyate | yathā rathyāpuruṣaḥ sarvajñatvena | na pratīyate cābhimatapuruṣa āptatveneti vyāpakānupalabdhiḥ ||



nāyamasiddhaḥ, āptābhimatasya tathātvāniścayāt | tathā hi paracittavṛttayo'tīndriyatvānna pratyakṣasamadhigamyā iti kāyavāgvyavahārato'numātavyāḥ | tau ca kāyavāgvyavahārau buddhipūrvamanyathāpi kartuṃ śakyete | tatastatpratibaddhatvenāniścayāt kathaṃ kāyavāgvyavahārato viśiṣṭaparacittavṛttyanumānam ||



nāpi viruddhaḥ, sapakṣe sadbhāvasaṃbhavāt ||



nāpyanaikāntikaḥ, prāmāṇikatadrūpavyavahartavyatvaniścitatvayorvyāpyavyāpakabhūtayorvidhibhūtayorvṛkṣatvaśiṃśapātvayoriva pratyakṣānupalambhābhyāṃ sarvopasaṃhāreṇa vyāpteḥ siddhatvāt | tadataḥ sādhanād doṣatrayarahitāt sādhyaṃ siddhyadavācyameva | tadevamāptatvasya durbodhatvena tatpraṇītatvāniścayādekaprahāranihatamāptavacasaḥ prāmāṇyam |



ato yadetasya prāmāṇyaprasiddhyarthaṃ vācaspatiprabhṛtīnāṃ valgitaṃ tadaprāptāvasarameva | evaṃ pratyayoditamapi bhaṭṭābhimataṃ śābdaṃ pramāṇyaṃ vyastamiti boddhavyam | tasmāt sthitametat na śābdaṃ bahirarthe pramāṇamastīti | buddhyākāre tu tatkāryaprasūtatvāttadanumānameveti |



mīmāṃsakoktaṃ tāvadupamānaṃ mānameva na bhavati, nirviṣayatvādasya | ihāpi prayogaḥ -



yasya na viṣayavattvaṃ na tasya prāmāṇyam | yathā keśoṇḍukajñānasya | na siddhaṃ ca viṣayavattvamupamānajñānasyeti vyāpakānupalambhaḥ |



nāyamasiddho hetuḥ, nirviṣayatvādupamānasya | tathā hi sādṛśyaviśiṣṭaḥ piṇḍaḥ piṇḍaviśiṣṭaṃ vā sādṛśyamupamānasya viṣayo varṇyate | na sadṛśavastuvyatiriktaṃ sādṛśyaṃ vyavasthāpayituṃ śakyate, pramāṇenāpratītatvāt |



nanu sādṛśyaṃ vastu durvārameva | yadāha

sādṛśyasya ca vastutvaṃ na śakyamapavādhitum |

bhūyo'vayasāmānyayogo jātyantarasya tat ||



iti | atrocyate | yadi sadṛśātiriktaṃ sādṛśyaṃ vastu dṛśyaṃ syāt, tadā dṛśyānupalambhagrastameva, śāstrānāhitasaṃskāreṇāpi kenacittasyādarśanāt | tasya cāstitve sarva sarvatrāstītyapravṛttinivṛttikaṃ jagadāpadyeta | athādṛśyaṃ tatsādṛśyamupeyate, tathāpi tatra prasiddhaliṅgābhāvādasiddhameva | siddhena ca tena viṣayavattopamānasya sidhyeta | sādṛśyapratyayastu svahetostathotpannena sadṛśavastunāpi kriyamāṇoghaṭata eva iti na sādṛśyamupasthāpayituṃ prabhavati | upamānapramāṇabalādeva sādṛśyasiddhiriti cet | na | pramāṇāntarasiddhayoreva sādṛśyapiṇḍayorviśeṣaṇaviśeṣyabhāvasyopamānaviṣayatvāt kathaṃ sādṛśyamātrasyopamānāt siddhiḥ | tataśca sādṛśyasyāsiddherna tadviśiṣṭaḥ piṇḍaḥ piṇḍaviśiṣṭaṃ vā sādṛśyamupamānasya viṣayaḥ | tadevamupamānasya nirviṣayatvaṃ siddhamiti nāsiddho hetuḥ |



nāpi viruddhaḥ, sapakṣe bhāvāt |



na cānaikāntikaḥ | tathā hi prāmāṇyābhāve sādhye pramāṇyameva vipakṣaḥ | tacca viṣayavattayā vyāptam, nirnimittatve sarvajñānaprāmāṇyaprasaṅgāt | tadayaṃ viruddhavyāptopalabdhyā vipakṣānnivartamāno viṣayavattvābhāvalakṣaṇo hetuḥ prāmāṇyābhāvalakṣaṇa eva viśrāmyatīti vyāptisiddhiḥ | ato nopamānaṃ pramāṇamiti |



naiyāyikaparikalpitopamānanirākaraṇāryamapyayameva prayogo draṣṭavyaḥ, tasyāpi nirviṣayatvāt | tathā hi samākhyāsaṃbandhastasya viṣayo varṇyate | sa ca paramārthato nāsti | sa hi saṃbandhaḥ saṃbandhibhyāṃ bhinno'bhinno vā | yadi bhinnastadā tayoriti kutaḥ| na ca saṃbandhāntarāditi vaktavyam, tadapi kathaṃ teṣāmiti cintāyāmanavasthāprasaṅgaḥ | na ca yathā pradīpaḥ prakāśāntaramantareṇa prakāśate tathā saṃbandho'pi saṃbandhāntaramantareṇa saṃbaddho bhaviṣyatīti vaktumucitam | pramāṇasiddhe hi vasturūpe'yamasya svabhāva iti varṇyate | yathā pradīpasyaiva | saṃbandhastu na pramāṇapratītaḥ | tatka evaṃ jānātvayamasya svabhāva iti, yadvā nāstyevāyamiti | ayamanayoḥ saṃbandhaḥ saṃbaddhāvetāviti tu buddhiḥ svahetubalāt saṃbaddhavastudvayādapi saṃbhāvyamānā na saṃbandhamākṣeptuṃ prabhavati | tasmānna bhinnasaṃbandhasiddhiḥ | athābhinnaḥ tadā saṃbandhināveva kevalāviati na samākhyāsaṃbandho nāma, yaḥ kaścidupamānasya viṣayaḥ syāt |



nanu saṃbandhabuddhijanakatvaṃ saṃbaddhapadārthādbhinnamabhinnaṃ vā | bhede ca sa eva sambandhaḥ, nāmni paraṃ vivādaḥ | athābhinnam, tadā yathā saṃbaddhapadārthasya svabhāvaḥ sarvapadārthasādhāraṇastathā tadapi rūpaṃ tadavyatibhinnaṃ sarvapadārthasādhāraṇamiti sa padārtho'bhimatapadārtheneva parairapi padārthaiḥ saha saṃbaddhaḥ syāt |



nacaivam, tasmādbhinnaṃ tatsabandhabuddhijanakatvaṃ saṃbaddhapadārthādeṣṭavyamiti cet | nanvetadāśaṅkya rājakulapādaiḥ parihṛtameva | tathā hi



saṃbaddhaṃ svayameva cennanu yathā taṃ tasya saṃbandhinaṃ

pratyātmā jagatīmapi prati tathā tatkena yogo'sya na |

saṃbandhe parato'pi tulyamakhilaṃ tenaiva cet saṃyamo

hetuḥ kiṃ na niyāmakaḥ sa ca kathaṃ yogaḥ kvacinnāpare ||

arthāpattirapi | yadetat sāmānyalakṣaṇaṃ pratyakṣādipratīto yo'rthaḥ sa yena vinā nopapadyate tasyārthasya parikalpanamarthāpattirityatra vicāryate | yasyārthasya darśanād yo'rthaḥ parikalpyate tayoryadi pratibandho'stitadārthāpattiranumānameva | arthāpattiriti nāmāntarakaraṇe nāsmākaṃ kācidvipratipattiḥ | tathā hi pramāṇaparidṛṣṭo'rthaḥ kenacidvinā nopapadyata iti kuto labhyate, yadi paridṛśyamānaparikalpyamānayoḥ kaścit saṃbandhaḥ syāt | anyathā tena vinā nopapadyata ityahrīkādanyo na brūyāt, ghaṭapaṭavat | sa ca sambandhaḥ kvacit pūrvamavaśyaṃ pratyakṣānupalambhataḥ kvacidadṛśyatve'pi viparyayabādhakapramāṇabalādvā niścetavyaḥ | anyathā tena vinānupapattijñānasyaivānupapatteḥ | sati caivam, ekaṃ saṃbandhinaṃ dṛṣṭvā yatrasthena vinā tatrasthaṃ nopapadyate, tasya dvitīyasya saṃbandhinaḥ kalpanamanumānameva | tatra svabhāvapratibandhe svabhāvahetujaiva sārthāpattiḥ | tadutpattipratibandhe kāryāliṅgajaiva | taduktam - anyathānupapannatvamanvayavyatirekiṇyarthe bhavati yat, tasmānnārthāpattiḥ pramāṇāntaramiti | tasmāt paridṛśyamānaparikalpyamānayoḥ sati pratibandhe nārthāpattiḥ pramāṇāntaramiti | atha tayorna pratibandhaḥ, tadārthāpattiḥ pramāṇameva na bhavatīti mantavyam, sākṣāt pāramparyeṇa ca saṃbandhābhāvāt | yasya yatra pratibandho nāsti na tasya tatra prāmāṇyamityādirveda nirākaraṇārtha yaḥ pūrvamupanyastaḥ sa evāsyā api prāmāṇyanirākaraṇāya draṣṭavyaḥ | sāmānyenaivārthāpattau nirākṛtāyāṃ pratyakṣādipūrvakatvalakṣaṇastatprapañco nirasto bhavatyeveti tadarthaṃ na prabandho'bhidhīyate, gavi nirākṛte śāvaleyanirākṛtivat | tasmānnārthāpattiḥ pramāṇāntaramiti |



tathā abhāvapramāṇasyāpi prāmāṇyaṃ nopapadyate, tasyāpi nirviṣayatvāt | tataśca mīmāṃsakopavalgitopamānanirākaraṇārthamupanyasto yo viṣayavattvābhāvalakṣaṇo'nupalambhaḥ sa evāsyāpi nirāsārthamupanyasitavyaḥ | nanu cātrāsiddho hetuḥ | tathā hi yadi ghaṭābhāvo vāstavaḥ prameyabhūto na syāt, tadā nāstīha ghaṭa iti pratyayaḥ kathamutpadyata iti cet | kevalapradeśagrāhipratyakṣāditi brūmaḥ | nanu yadi kaivalyaṃ praveśasvarūpaṃ tattarhi saghaṭe'pi pradeśe vidyata iti tatrāpi tasya pratyayasya sadbhāvaprasaṅgaḥ | athātiriktaḥ, mukhāntareṇābhāva evābhyupagato bhavatīti cet, na | kaivalyaṃ tadviviktatvamasaṅkīrṇatvamityādibhiḥ padaiḥ pradeśasya ghaṭaṃ pratyanāpannādhārabhāvasya svahetuta utpannasya ghaṭapradeśādanya evātmābhidhīyate | sa eva cābhāvapratyayaṃ janayatīti kimapareṇābhāvena kartavyam |



nanu ghaṭaṃ pratyanāpannādhārabhāvasya pradeśasyeti ghaṭābhāvayuktasya pradeśasyetyuktaṃ bhavatīti cet | tarhi ghaṭābhāvo'pi ghaṭaṃ pratyanāpannādhārabhāvaḥ kimabhāvāntareṇa svarūpeṇaiva vā | prathamapakṣe'navasthā | atha tadabhāvarūpatvādabhāvāntaramantareṇaiva ghaṭābhāvo ghaṭaṃ pratyanāpannādhārabhāvaḥ | yadyevamasahāyaḥ pradeśaviśeṣo'pi paryudāsavṛttyā ghaṭābhāvarūpatvādabhāvaṃ vinaiva ghaṭaṃ pratyanāpannādhārabhāvo yukta iti kimakāṇḍamāhopuruṣikayā mithyāpralāpenābodhaviklavaṃ śiṣyapudgalamākulayasi | tasmād bhūtalātiriktasyābhāvasyāsiddhatvānnāyaṃ viṣayavattābhāvalakṣaṇo heturasiddhaḥ | pramāṇapañcakābhāvādeva tu prameyābhāvasiddhipratyāśāpi na yujyate, vipratipattiviṣayatvādasyā nenaiva prameyābhāvasiddherayogāt |



viruddhānaikāntikatve ca pūrvameva hetoḥ parihṛte | tadataḥ siddhamabhāvapramāṇābhimatasyāprāmāṇyamiti |



athavābhāvapramāṇasvarūpameva nirūpyatām | kaḥpunaḥ pramāṇābhāvātmābhimato bhavatām, kiṃ prasajyavṛttyā pramāṇānutpattimātram, atha vā paryudāsavṛttyā bhāvāntaram | vastvantaramapi jaḍarūpaṃ jñānarūpaṃ vā | jñānarūpamapi jñānamātrakamekajñānasaṃsargivastujñānaṃ veti ṣaḍ vikalpāḥ |



tatra na tāvannivṛttirūpo'bhāvo yujyate | sa khalu nikhilaśaktivikalatayā na kiñcit | yacca na kiñcit tatkathamabhāvaṃ paricchindyāt, tadviṣayaṃ vā jñānaṃ janayet, pratītaṃ vā tatkathamiti sarvamandhakāranartanam | yadāhuḥ -



na hyabhāvaḥ kasyacit pratipattiḥ pratipattiheturvā tasyāpi kathaṃ pratipattiriti | nāpi vastvantaratāpakṣe jaḍarūpo'bhāvaḥ saṅgacchate, tasyābhāvalakṣaṇaprameyaparicchedābhāvāt, paricchedasya jñānadharmatvāt | nāpi jñānamātrasvabhāvo'bhāvo vaktavyaḥ, deśakālasvabhāvaviprakṛṣṭasyāpi tato'bhāvaprasaṅgāt, tadapekṣayāpi jñānamātratvāt tasya | athaikajñānasaṃsargivastujñānasvabhāvo'numanyate tadāstamabhāvapramāṇapratyāśayā, pratyakṣaviśeṣasyaivābhāvanāmakaraṇāt | tasya cāsmābhirdṛśyānupalambhākhyasādhanatvena svīkṛtatvāt | ato na kācid vipratipattirnāma | tasmādabhāvapramāṇasvarūpamarpi nirūpyamāṇaṃ viśīryata eva | yadapyasya lakṣaṇamuktam
