7 vīryapāramitā nāma saptamaḥ paricchedaḥ|



tadevaṃ vipakṣapratiṣedhena tridhā kṣāntiṃ pratipādya vīryaṃ pratipādayitumāha-



evaṃ kṣamo bhajedvīryaṃ vīrye bodhiryataḥ sthitā|

na hi vīryaṃ vinā puṇyaṃ yathā vāyuṃ vināgatiḥ||1||



evamuktakrameṇa kṣamāyuktaḥ kṣamaḥ svayamabhyastakṣāntiḥ| bhajedvīryaṃ vīryamārabheta| anyathā duḥkhāsahiṣṇutayā vīryasya prasrabdhirna syāt| kasmāt punarvīryamupādīyata ityāha| vīryaṃ ityādi-yasmādvīrye buddhatvamavasthitam| taddhetukatayā tadāyattatvādbuddhatvasya| etadapi kutaḥ ? yasmānna vīryamantareṇa puṇyaṃ puṇyasaṃbhāro'sti| upalakṣaṇametat| jñānamapi draṣṭavyam, vīryasyobhayahetutvāt| tadanena vīryāt puṇyajñānasaṃbhārau, tābhyāṃ ca buddhatvamityuktaṃ bhavati||



vīryasvarūpāparijñānāt pṛcchati-

kiṃ vīryaṃ kuśalotsāhastadvipakṣaḥ ka ucyate|

ālasyaṃ kutsitāsaktirviṣādātmāvamanyanā||2||



kimetadvīryaṃ nāma ? atrāha-kuśalotsāhaḥ| yo'yaṃ kuśalakarmaṇi dānādau śrutādau ca samudyamaḥ, tadvīryamabhidhīyate| akuśale tu kausīdyameva| vipakṣeṇopahataṃ vīryamanaṅgamevābhimatasiddhaye iti tadvipakṣamapanayanāya darśayitumāha-tadvipakṣa ityādi| tasya vīryasya viruddho vināśāya pakṣo vipakṣaḥ ka ucyate ? uttaramāha-ālasyamityādi| ālasyaṃ kausīdyaṃ kāyamanasorakarmaṇyatā| kutsite jugupsanīye hāsyalāsyādau āsaṅgaḥ| viṣādo viṣaṇṇatā| duṣkare karmaṇi cittasya vinivṛttiḥ| anadhyavasānamityarthaḥ| tena ātmano'vamanyanā avajñā| ayaṃ tadvipakṣaḥ||



tadālasyaniṣedhāya tatkāraṇaṃ tāvadupadarśayitumāha-

avyāpārasukhāsvādanidrāpāśrayatṛṣṇayā|

saṃsāraduḥkhānudvegādālasyamupajāyate||3||



saṃsāraduḥkhānudvegādasaṃvegāt, yo'yamavyāpāro nirvyāpāratā, tatra tena vā sukhāsvādaḥ sukhābhirāmaḥ| sa ca nidrā ca middhākramaṇam| tābhyāṃ middhākramaṇamapāśrayatṛṣṇā avaṣṭambhanābhilāṣaḥ, tayā| ālasyamupajāyate iti yojanīyam| yadi vā| saṃsāraduḥkhānudvegādavyāpāraḥ, kvacidapi kuśalakarmaṇi na pravṛttiḥ, tasmāt sukhāsvādaḥ, tato nidrā, tasyāśca apāśrayatṛṣṇā, tayā||



ataḥ saṃsāraduḥkhānudveganivartanārthamiyamatra saṃvegabhāvanā āmukhīkartavyetyāha-

kleśavāgurikāghrātaḥ praviṣṭo janmavāgurām|

kimadyāpi na jānāsi mṛtyorvadanamāgataḥ||4||



vāgurikā matsyādivadhikā jālikā ucyante kaivartādayaḥ (dibhiḥ ?)| kleśā eva vāgurikāḥ , tairāghrāta āyattīkṛtaḥ| kathamiti cet, praviṣṭo janmavāgurām, nikāyasabhāgatotpattireva vāgurikā jālam, tat praviṣṭaḥ, tadantargata ityarthaḥ| idamiha tadātmasātkaraṇe kāraṇam| adyāpi etāṃ daśāṃ prāpto'pi mṛtyormukhaṃ praviṣṭaḥ san kimiti na vetsi ? jātaścenmaraṇamavaśyaṃbhāvītyarthaḥ||



idamaparaṃ saṃvegakāraṇamāha-

svayūthyānmāryamāṇāṃstvaṃ krameṇaiva na paśyasi|

tathāpi nidrāṃ yāsyeva caṇḍālamahiṣo yathā||5||



yūthaṃ vargaḥ, tatra bhavā yūthyāḥ, yaiḥ saha bālyādyavasthāyāṃ krīḍitahasitādinā vicaritam| tān svavargyān| caṇḍālānāmavaśyaṃmāraṇīyamahiṣavat| na paśyasi mamāpi iyamavasthitiḥ syāditi||



avaśyamiha kiyatkālaṃ parilambya mṛtyurāgamiṣyati| tena tāvatkālaṃ sukhānubhavanameva mama yuktamityatrāha-yadi nāmaivam, tathāpi nāvaśyaṃbhāvini maraṇe viśvāso yuktaḥ|



yamenodvīkṣyamāṇasya baddhamārgasya sarvataḥ|

kathaṃ te rocate bhoktuṃ kathaṃ nidrā kathaṃ ratiḥ||6||



iti vadhyapuruṣasyeva sarvato vadhyaghātakairadhiṣṭhitasya vadhyabhūmiṃ nīyamānasya niḥsaraṇamapaśyataḥ sukhāsikāvalambanamanucitameva bhavataḥ| tasmāt saṃvegato bhāvanayā anayā hetunivartanādālasyamapāsya kuśalapakṣotsāhavardhanamanuṣṭheyam||



athāpi syāt-yadi nāma avaśyaṃbhāvitā mṛtyoḥ, tathāpi tatsaṃnidhānamavagamya ālasyamapahāsyāmi ityāśaṅkayāha-

yāvatsaṃbhṛtasaṃbhāraṃ maraṇaṃ śīghrameṣyati|

saṃtyajyāpi tadālasyamakāle kiṃ kariṣyasi||7||



saṃbhṛtaḥ sajjīkṛtaḥ saṃbhāraḥ sāmagrī vadhāya vyādhijarālakṣaṇo yena| yāvaditi lokoktam| śīghraṃ tvaritamanabhisaṃdhānāt| tadā mṛtyumukhāntargataḥ asamaye ālasyaṃ tyaktvāpi kiṃ kariṣyasi ? na tadā kiṃcit prayojanamiti bhāvaḥ||



akālatāmevāsya samarthayituṃ vṛttatrayeṇāha-

idaṃ na prāptamārabdhamidamardhakṛtaṃ sthitam|

akasmānmṛtyurāyāto hā hato'smīti cintayan||8||



śokavegasamucchūnasāśruraktekṣaṇānanān|

bandhūnnirāśān saṃpaśyan yamadūtamukhāni ca||9||



svapāpasmṛtisaṃtaptaḥ śṛṇvannādāṃśca nārakān|

trāsoccāraviliptāṅgo vihvalaḥ kiṃ kariṣyasi||10||



idaṃ yadanāgate kartavyatayā manasikṛtaṃ tanna prāptam| idamārabdhaṃ yatkāryamādita eva kartumiṣṭam| idamardhakṛtaṃ sthitam, yat kiyanniṣpannaṃ kiyadaniṣpannam | iti kāryaparyantamagatasyaiva akasmānmṛtyurāgato mama| aho bata atikaṣṭam, hato'smīti vicintayan vihvalaḥ kiṃ kariṣyasītyanāgatena saṃbandhaḥ| śokaḥ priyaviprayogakṛtaścittaparitāpaḥ| tasya vego'nivāryapravṛttiḥ| tena samucchūnāni samunnatāni sāśrūṇi sabāṣpāṇi raktāni tāmravarṇāni locanāni yeṣu ānaneṣu tāni tathā| tathābhūtāni ānanāni mukhāni yeṣāṃ bandhūnāṃ te tathā| tān saṃpaśyan vilokayan| tatrākarmakādhikārāt parasmaipadaṃ dṛśaḥ| kiṃbhūtān ? nirāśān| kva ? pratyujjīvanaṃ prati tyaktāśān, tatsānāthyavikalān vā| maraṇasamayopasthitakṛtāntānucaramukhāni ca saroṣaparuṣabhṛkuṭīni saṃpaśyan vihvalaḥ kiṃ kariṣyasi ? svayaṃkṛtapāpakarmasmaraṇena maraṇasamaye kimityevaṃ mayā kṛtamiti paścāttāpena tāpitaḥ| naitāvanmātrameva, kiṃ tu śṛṇvannādāṃśca nārakān tīvrakāraṇānubhavanadukhanirmuktān vikrośitaśabdān narakasamudbhūtān arthāntarakopāṇāmeva (?)| tacchrutvā mamāpyevamevāvasthā iti saṃtrāsena yaḥ purīṣotsargo viṭpravṛttiḥ, tenopaliptagātraḥ| vihvalaḥ anāyattakāyavākcittapracāraḥ| kiṃ kariṣyasi sarvakriyāsu nivṛttavyāpāraḥ||



iti matvā svasthāvasthāyāmeva yatitavyam iti śikṣayitumāha-

jīvamatsya ivāsmīti yuktaṃ bhayamihaiva te|

kiṃ punaḥ kṛtapāpasya tīvrānnarakaduḥkhataḥ||11||



jīvanta eva matsyāḥ krameṇa bhakṣaṇārthaṃ prāyaḥ prāgdiṅanivāsibhireva janai rakṣyante| jīvanopalakṣitā matsyā jīvamatsyā iti teṣāmeva samayaḥ| śākapārthivāditvānmadhyamapadalopī samāsaḥ| tadvadahamapi adya śvo vā niyatameva mariṣyāmi iti manasi kṛtvā yuktaṃ bhayamihaiva te| ihaiva saṃprajānadavasthāyāmeva tavāsaṃprāptamaraṇasya maraṇataḥ, kiṃ punaḥ kṛtapāpasya bhavato bhayaṃ yuktaṃ na bhavati, ityapi āhāryam| atiduḥsahānnarakaduḥkhataḥ||



nirvyāpārasukhāsvādābhiratamadhikṛtyāha-

spṛṣṭa uṣṇodakenāpi sukumāra pratapyase|

kṛtvā ca nārakaṃ karma kimevaṃ svasthamāsyate||12||



taptavāriṇāpi saṃspṛṣṭaḥ| sukumāreti saṃbodhanam| atimṛduśarīratayā soḍhumaśakto'si| yadyevam, tadā kṛtvā cetyādi subodham||



aparamapi taṃ pratyāha-

nirudyama phalākāṅkṣin sukumāra bahuvyatha|

mṛtyugrasto'marākāra hā duḥkhita vihanyase||13||



sukhahetūtpādanāya vyāpāraśūnyo'si| atha ca tasya phalaṃ sukhamabhilaṣasi| duḥkhāsahiṣṇurasi, atha ca bahuvyatho'si sarvaduḥkhākaratvāt| mṛtyunā ca vaśīkṛto'si, atha ca amaraṇadharmāṇamātmānaṃ manyase| evaṃ ca viparyastaṃ caritamasya vipaśyan karuṇāyamānaḥ sakhedamenamāha-hā duḥkhita vihanyase| saṃmohabahulatayā kaṣṭāṃ daśāṃ praviṣṭo'si| ātmagatameva vā vimṛśati| evamanyatrāpi yathāsaṃbhavaṃ draṣṭavyam| nirudyamādīni cāmantritapadāni||



nidrāparatantraṃ pratyāha-

mānuṣyaṃ nāvamāsādya tara duḥkhamahānadīm|

mūḍha kālo na nidrāyā iyaṃ naurdurlabhā punaḥ||14||



aṣṭākṣaṇavinirmuktaṃ manuṣyabhāvapratilambhaṃ nāvamiva abhyudayādipāragamanāya prāpya tara plavasva duḥkhamayīṃ mahānadīm| sarvaduḥkhāni pṛṣṭhīkuruṣva| vīryāvalambaneneti yāvat| he mohaparavaśa, nāyaṃ kālo nidrāyāḥ, yāvadiyaṃ nauḥ saṃnihitā| yadi nedānīmeva yatnaḥ kriyate, tadā punariyaṃ durgatigatasya naurdurlabhā bhaviṣyati| yaduktam-



punarapyeṣa samagamaḥ kutaḥ| iti||

evamālasyaṃ nivārya kutsitāsaktiṃ nivārayannāha-

muktvā dharmaratiṃ śreṣṭhāmanantaratisaṃtatim|

ratirauddhatyahāsyādau duḥkhahetau kathaṃ tava||15||



śubhakarmaṇāṃ ratiṃ śreṣṭhāmuttamām| kiṃbhūtām ? anantaratisaṃtatim| sugatiparaṃparāsaṃjananādanantā aparyavasānā ratisaṃtatiḥ sukhapravāho yasyāḥ sā tathā| ata eva uttame tyuktam| tāmapahāya ratirabhirāmaḥ, auddhatyamunnatatā| kāyacittayoḥ krīḍanaśīlateti yāvat| hāso vāgauddhatyam| sarabhasasya vāgvikāra iti yāvat| ādiśabdādgītādiparigrahaḥ| tatra kathaṃ ratistava ? na yuktetyabhiprāyaḥ| kiṃbhūte ? duḥkhahetau| narakādidurgatyupanayanādduḥkhasya heturbhavati||



evaṃ kutsitāsaktimapi nirākṛtya viṣādātmāvamanyanāṃ vīryavipakṣaṃ nirākartum, aparamapi ca tadvipakṣanirasanāya pratipādayannāha-

aviṣādabalavyūhatātparyātmavidheyatā|

parātmasamatā caiva parātmaparivartanam||16||



viṣādaviparīto'viṣādaḥ| balānāṃ vyūhaḥ samūho vakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇaḥ| tātparyaṃ nipuṇatā| ātmavidheyatā ātmavaśavartitā| etāḥ sarvāḥ kṛtadvandvasamāsāḥ| yadi vā| ebhiḥ sahitā ātmavidheyatā| parātmasamatāparātmaparivartane dhyānaparicchede [bodhi.8] vakṣyamāṇe| idamapi samastaṃ kausīdyaprahāṇāya vīryasamṛddhaye prabhavatītyuddeśaḥ||



uddiṣṭamevārthaṃ krameṇa nirdiśannāha-

naivāvasādaḥ kartavyaḥ kuto me bodhirityataḥ|



kuto me bodhiriti, kathamahaṃ varākaḥ samyaksaṃbodhibhājanam ? buddhatvaṃ hi tīkṣṇendriyasya ārabdhavīryasya aparimitapuṇyajñānasaṃbhāraiḥ atiduṣkarakarmānuṣṭhānaiḥ anekaiśca kalpāsaṃkhyeyaiḥ kasyacit puruṣaviśeṣasya sādhyaṃ bhavati| ahaṃ tu na tādṛśa iti kathaṃ madvidhānāṃ tathāvidhaṃ buddhatvaṃ saṃbhāvyeta, ityevamākāramanasikārādavasādo viṣādo na kartavyaḥ, mahārthabhraṃśasya hetutvāt | yathoktam-avasādo'pyanartha iti [śi. sa. 34] || kasmāt?

yasmāttathāgataḥ satyaṃ satyavādīdamuktavān||17||



yasmāt tathāgataḥ idaṃ vakṣyamāṇaṃ satyamavitathamuktavān kathitavān| kathaṃ jñāyate ityāha-satyavādīti| jñānakriyāsaṃbhavādaviparītavādī| ataḥ satyābhidhānahetupadametat||



kiṃ tatsatyamuktavān?

te'pyāsan daṃśamaśakā makṣikāḥ kṛmayastathā|

yairutsāhavaśāt prāptā durāpā bodhiruttamā||18||



ityāha| te'pi buddhā bhagavantaḥ purvaṃ śākyamuniratnaśikhidīpaṃkaraprabhṛtayaḥ saṃsārasāgarāvartāntargatāḥ pṛthagjanāvasthāyāṃ paribhramanta evaṃbhūtā evāsan babhūvuḥ, yairutsāhabalāt vīryotkarṣasāmarthyāt saṃbhārān saṃbhṛtya prāptā adhigatā durāpā durlabhapratilambhā bodhiruttamā anuttarā| ārabdhavīryasya na kiṃcidduṣkaramiti bhāvaḥ| idaṃ tat satyam||



ato mama punaratitarāṃ na durlabhā bodhirityāha-

kimutāhaṃ naro jātyā śakto jñātuṃ hitāhitam|

sarvajñanītyanutsargādbodhiṃ kiṃ nāpnuyāmaham||19||



kiṃ punarahaṃ manuṣyabhūto janmanā| śakto jñātuṃ hitāhitamiti| idaṃ hitamidamahitam, śubhamaśubhaṃ ca karmetyupadiṣṭam, jñātumavaboddhuṃ samartho'smi, iti vicintya sarvajñasya sarvavastutattvavedinaḥ nītirnayaḥ upādeyatattvapratipādanam| tasya anutsargādaparityāgāt| tasya ādānopādānasevanādityarthaḥ| buddhatvaṃ nāpnuyāmaham| kākvā paṭhanād āpnuyāmeveti| etadbhagavatā ratnameghe darśitam| yathoktam-



iha bodhisattvo naivaṃ cittamutpādayati-duṣprāpyā bodhirmanuṣyabhūtena satā| idaṃ ca me vīryaṃ parīttaṃ ca hīnaṃ ca| kusīdo'ham| bodhiśca ādīptaśiraścailopamena bahūn kalpān bahūni kalpaśatāni bahūni kalpasahasrāṇi samudācaratā samudānetavyā| tannāhamutsahe īdṛśaṃ bhāramudvoḍhum| kiṃ tarhi bodhisattvenaivaṃ cittamutpādayitavyam-ye'pi te'bhisaṃbuddhāstathāgatā arhantaḥ samyaksaṃbuddhāḥ, ye'pi vā abhisaṃbhotsyante, te'pi īdṛśenaiva nayena, īdṛśyā pratipadā, īdṛśenaiva vīryeṇābhisaṃbuddhāḥ, yāvanna ca te tathāgatabhūtā evābhisaṃbuddhāḥ| ahamapi tathā tathā ghaṭiṣye, tathā tathā vyāyaṃsye sarvasattvasādhāraṇena vīryeṇa sarvasattvārambaṇena vīryeṇa yathāhamapyanuttarāṃ samyaksaṃbodhimabhisaṃbhotsye iti||



yuktamevaitat, kevalamatiduṣkarakarmaśravaṇādanadhyavasāyo vinivartayitumaśakya iti vikalpayannāha-

athāpi hastapādādi dātavyamiti me bhayam|



karacaraṇaśiraḥ prabhṛtidānamantareṇa buddhatvaṃ na prāpyate, iti atiduṣkarakarmasu pravṛttibhayādutsāho nivartata eva| iti cenmanyase svacittamevamāha-

gurulāghavamūḍhatvaṃ tanme syādavicārataḥ||20||



tadetad gurulāghavamūḍhatvameva me| alpe bahutaraṃ bahutare cālpataramiti mohavaśena avicārato'vivekānmama syāt, na tu paramārthavicārataḥ||



paramārthavicāreṇa gurulāghavaviparyāsa evāyamityupadarśayannāha-

chettavyaścāsmi bhettavyo dāhyaḥ pāṭyo'pyanekaśaḥ|

kalpakoṭīrasaṃkhyeyā na ca bodhirbhaviṣyati||21||



saṃsāracārake nivasaṃstathāvidhakarmavaśācchettavyaścāsmi karacaraṇādyaṅgapratyaṅgacchedanānnarakādiṣu| tathā bhettavyo'smi śaktikuntādibhiḥ| dāhyo narakadahanādinā| pāṭyo jvalitakrakacādinā| anekaśaḥ anekavārān| narakādiṣu kāraṇāmanubhavan aparyantapathi saṃsāre| kalpānāṃ koṭīrasaṃkhyeyāḥ saṃkhyātumaśakyāḥ iti| akāmasyāpi duḥkhamaparyantamanekaprakāramāpatiṣyati, na ca buddhatvasaṃbhārāya tat saṃpatsyate||



idaṃ saṃsārāparyantatayā duḥkhaṃ bahutaraṃ niṣphalaṃ ca| buddhatvaprasādhakaṃ punaralpataraṃ saphalaṃ cetyupadarśayannāha-

idaṃ tu me parimitaṃ duḥkhaṃ saṃbodhisādhanam|

naṣṭaśalyavyathāpohe tadutpādanaduḥkhavat||22||



yad buddhatvaprasādhakaṃ tadidaṃ duḥkhaṃ parimitaṃ mama pratiniyatakālabhāvitayā, duḥkha [praśamana]hetuśca| tattathābhūtaṃ śalyaṃ tena vyathā, tasyā apoho nivṛttiḥ| tannimittaṃ tadvayudāsāya| yāvajjīvaṃ tatkṛtaduḥkhaprahāṇāyetyarthaḥ| tasya naṣṭaśalyasyotpāṭanaṃ śarīrāduddharaṇam| apakarṣaṇamiti yāvat| tena yadduḥkhaṃ pratiniyatakālamalpataram| dīrghakālikaduḥkhopaśamanimittam| tadvat soḍhumucitamidamapi duḥkham||



ato'pi samucitamidamityāha-

sarve'pi vaidyāḥ kurvanti kriyāduḥkhairarogatām|

tasmādvahūni duḥkhāni hantuṃ soḍhavyamalpakam||23||



sarve'pi na kecideva| laṅghanapācanādikṛtairyatheṣṭāhāravihārapratiṣedhajanitaiśca kriyāduḥkhaiḥ rogapīḍitānāmārogyaṃ vidadhāti| anyathā tatkartumaśakyam| yata evam, tasmādatiśayena alpamalpakaṃ duḥkhaṃ soḍhavyam| kimartham ? bahūni duḥkhāni hantum| sarvasattvānāmātmanaśca dīrghakālikasarvaduḥkhapraśamanāyetyarthaḥ| evaṃ tāvat svīkartuṃ yuktaṃ dhīmataḥ||



na cedaṃ yuktamapi duṣkaraṃ karma ādikarmikasya prathamanujñātaṃ bhagavateti darśayannāha-

kriyāmimāmapyucitāṃ varavaidyo na dattavān|



kriyāmimāṃ samanantarapratipāditāṃ duḥkhotpādanīm| ucitāmapi sevanīyāmapi| varavaidyo bhagavān sarvathā sarvāvyadhicikitsakaḥ| prathamaṃ na dattavān, na kartavyatayā pratipāditavānādikarmikasya| kathaṃ tarhi rāgādivyādhīnapanayati ? āha-

madhureṇopacāreṇa cikitsati mahāturān||24||



sukumāratareṇopacāreṇa upakrameṇa| yathākṣamaṃ cikitsāpraṇayanenetyarthaḥ| cikitsati rogamuktān karoti| mahāturān dīrgharogiṇo rāgādimahāvyādhigrastān||



kaḥ punarayaṃ madhuropacāra ityāha-

ādau śākādidāne'pi niyojayati nāyakaḥ|

tatkaroti kramātpaścādyatsvamāṃsānyapi tyajet||25||



mātsaryamalāpanayanārthaṃ sukhasukhena saṃbhārasaṃvardhanārthaṃ ca śakyaparityāge śākasaktupiṇḍikādidānena prathamataraṃ pravartayati nāyako bhagavān| punastathopāyaviśeṣeṇa niyojanaṃ karoti| taditi lokoktau vā| yadyathā dātā mṛdudānābhyāsakrameṇa adhimātrādhimātradānābhyāsaprakarṣamāsādayan paścāduttarakālamakṛcchreṇaiva svamāṃsarudhirādikamapi prasanna eva prayacchet||



kathaṃ punaretadevamityāśaṅkayāha-

yadā śākeṣviva prajñā svamāṃse'pyupajāyate|

māṃsāsthi tyajatastasya tadā kiṃ nāma duṣkaram||26||



yasmin kāle dānābhyāsāt paramaprakarṣagamanāt sarvathāpagatamātsaryatayā śākeṣviva svamāṃse'pi nirāsaṅgā buddhirupajāyate, tadā svamāṃsādidāne'pi nāśakyānuṣṭhānabuddhiriti tasmin kāle kiṃ nāma duṣkaram ? naiva kiṃcidityarthaḥ||



athāpi syāt-atidīrghakālaṃ parārthe saṃsaratā tadduḥkhaṃ kathamiva parihartuṃ śakyamityatrāha-

na duḥkhī tyaktapāpatvātpaṇḍitatvānna durmanāḥ|

mithyākalpanayā citte pāpātkāye yato vyathā||27||



dvividhameva hi duḥkhaṃ bādhakamupajāyate kāyikaṃ mānasikaṃ ceti| tadetad dvayamapi bodhisattvasya na saṃbhavati| kāyavacanamanobhiḥ sarvāvadyavirateḥ kāyikaṃ duḥkhamasya na jāyate| yuktyāgamābhyāmubhayanairātmyasya ca niścayanānmānasamapi kutaḥ ? yato mithyākalpanayā asadvikalpena ātmātmīyagrahapravṛttena bhāvādyabhiniveśakṛtena vā citte duḥkham, pāpāt prāṇātipātādeḥ kāye| evaṃ tāvadduḥkhahetuparihārādduḥkhamasya na jāyate iti pratipāditam||



idānīṃ sukhameva kevalamasyāstīti pratipādayannāha-

puṇyena kāyaḥ sukhitaḥ pāṇḍityena manaḥ sukhi|

tiṣṭhan parārthaṃ saṃsāre kṛpāluḥ kena khidyate||28||



sukhaṃ jātamasya kāyasyeti sukhitaḥ| sukhaṃ vidyate'sya manasa iti sukhi| evamubhayasukhasamanvāgatatvāt kṛpāvān parārthaṃ saṃsāre saṃsaran kena duḥkhena khidyate, khedaṃ manyate ? yadi vā| kena khidyate ? khedahetorabhāvānna kenaciditi bhāvaḥ| tat kimidamakāraṇabhīrutayā vaimukhyamupādīyate ?



syādetat-dīrghakālamāsevitabhāvitabahulīkṛtena mahatā puṇyasaṃbhāreṇa samyaksaṃbodhiradhigamyate| tadvaraṃ mumukṣūṇāṃ śīghrakālatayā śrāvakayānamevāśrayaṇīyaṃ syādityāśaṅkayāha-

kṣapayan pūrvapāpāni pratīcchan puṇyasāgarān|

bodhicittabalādeva śrāvakebhyo'pi śīghragaḥ||29||



pūrvakṛtāni yāni pāpāni tāni bodhicittabalādeva kṣayīṇi kurvan| yathoktaṃ prāk-

yugāntakālānalavanmahānti

pāpāni yannirdahati kṣaṇena|iti|

[bodhi. 1.14]

tathā bodhicittabalādeva pratīcchan ādadānaḥ puṇyasāgarān|

yaduktam-

avicchinnāḥ puṇyadhārāḥ pravartante nabhaḥsamāḥ|iti|

[bodhi .1.19]

evaṃvidhopāyabalajavena mahāyānamārūḍho bodhisattvaḥ śrāvakebhyo'pi śīghragaḥ tvaritagāmī||



evaṃ sukhātsukhaṃ gacchan ko viṣīdetsacetanaḥ|

bodhicittarathaṃ prāpya sarvakhedaśramāpaham||30||



pratipāditamevārthaṃ piṇḍīkṛtya darśayati| evamuktakrameṇa sarvāvadyavirateḥ purākṛtapāpakṣayācca svapne'pi durgatigamanābhāvāt tīvrābhiprāyeṇa anekasukhena aharniśamākāśadhātuvyāpinaḥ puṇyasāgarasyābhivardhanācca sugatiparaṃparāsanmārgāvataraṇabodhicittaṃ rathamiva āsādya| āruhyeti yāvat| sarvakhedaiḥ parikleśaiḥ śrama āyāsaḥ, tamapahantīti pratipāditanayena, sarvakhedaśramaṃ vā apahantīti tam| sukhādekasmādaparamuttarottaramadhikādhikaṃ sukhaṃ devamanuṣyasaṃpattilakṣaṇaṃ gacchan anuprāpnuvan ko nāma prekṣāvān viṣādamāpadyeta ?



tadevamanekavidhaviṣādanimittapratiṣedhena aviṣādaṃ pratipādya balavyūhaṃ pratipādayitumāha-

chandasthāmaratimuktibalaṃ sattvārthasiddhaye|

chandaṃ duḥkhabhayātkuryādanuśaṃsāṃśca bhāvayan||31||



idamapyuddeśavākyameva| chanda iha kuśalābhilāṣaḥ| sthāma ārabdhadṛḍhatā| ratiḥ satkarmāsaktiḥ muktirasāmarthye tāvatkālamutsargaḥ| etaccaturaṅgabalam, anekāvayavasamudāyātmakatvāt, hastyādibalavat| sattvārthasiddhaye vīryahetutvāt, asya vīryasya ca sarvābhimatasādhanatvāditi bhāvaḥ| tatra chandabalasya bahukaratvāt, chandamityādinā asyotpattinimittamāha-duḥkhabhayāditi| aśubhakarmaṇo duḥkhaṃ jāyata iti trāsācchandaṃ kuryāt| anuśaṃsāṃśca bhāvayan| anuśaṃsāḥ phaladvāreṇa guṇaviśeṣāḥ| te ca arthāt kuśalakarmaṇa eva| tān bhāvayan| śubhakarmaṇo'nekaprakāreṇa madhuraphalotpattiṃ punaḥ punaḥ saṃcintayannityarthaḥ||



sāṃprataṃ balasya vyāpāramupadarśayitumāha-

evaṃ vipakṣamunmūlya yatetotsāhavṛddhaye|

chandamānaratityāgatātparyavaśitābalaiḥ||32||



evamuktaprabandhenetyādi| vipakṣamālasyādi| unmūlya pratipakṣabhāvanā vidhinā apasārya| vīryapravardhanāya yatnaṃ kuryāt| kenopāyenetyādi(ha ?)-mānaścittasyonnatiḥ| ayaṃ sthāmabalasyopabṛṃhaṇam, sthāmabalameva vā| teṣāṃ balaiḥ sāmarthyaiḥ| sāmarthyaparyāyo'tra balaśabdaḥ||



tatra tāvacchandotpādanāya prathamamāha-

aprameyā mayā doṣā hantavyāḥ svaparātmanoḥ|

ekaikasyāpi doṣasya yatra kalpārṇavaiḥ kṣayaḥ||33||



tatra doṣakṣayārambhe leśo'pi mama nekṣyate|

aprameyavyathābhājye noraḥ sphuṭati me katham||34||



guṇā mayārjanīyāśca bahavaḥ svaparātmanoḥ|

tatraikaikaguṇābhyāso bhavetkalpārṇavairna vā||35||



guṇaleśe'pi nābhyāso mama jātaḥ kadācana|



sarvasattvānāmupakaraṇatayā ātmanaśca samastakleśaprahāṇāya niḥśeṣaguṇotpādanāya ca mayā bodhicittamutpāditam| tacca na śithilavyāpārasādhyamityavagamyāpi yadi anārabdhavīryatayā mandasamārambha eva tiṣṭhāmi, tadā durgativinipātamantareṇa nānyā gatirasti mameti vicintya saṃvegamāmukhīkurvan chandamutpādayediti samudāyārthaḥ||



avayavārthastu ucyate-aprameyāḥ pramātumaśakyāḥ| doṣāḥ kāyavākcittasamāśritāḥ| hantavyāḥ prahantavyāḥ| svaparātmanoḥ svātmanaḥ parātmanaśca| ekaikasyāpīti| āstāṃ tāvadvahūnām| yatra yeṣu| mandavīryeṇa kalpārṇavaiḥ anekaiḥ kalpaśatasahasraiḥ kṣayaḥ prahāṇaṃ kriyate| tatra teṣu doṣakṣayārambhe doṣaprahāṇotsāhe| leśo'pi svalpamātramapi mama nekṣyate na dṛśyate| ataḥ aprameyavyathābhājye aparimitaduḥkhabhājanasya mama noraḥ sphuṭati hṛdayaṃ vidīryate| kathaṃ kena prakāreṇa| guṇā mayetyādi subodham| iti vicintya saṃvegamupadarśayati-



vṛthā nītaṃ mayā janma kathaṃcillabdhamadbhutam||36||



vṛthā viphalameva mayā janma akṣaṇavinirmuktaṃ nītaṃ preritam| vṛthīkṛtamiti yāvat| kathaṃcillabdhaṃ mahārṇavayugacchidrakūrmagrīvārpaṇavat sucireṇa prāptam| ata eva āścaryasthānatvādadbhutam||



ito'pi viphalamityāha-

na prāptaṃ bhagavatpūjāmahotsavasukhaṃ mayā|

na kṛtā śāsane kārā daridrāśā na pūritā||37||



bhītebhyo nābhayaṃ dattamārtā na sukhinaḥ kṛtāḥ|

duḥkhāya kevalaṃ māturgato'smi garbhaśalyatām||38||



tathāgatānāṃ satkriyābhirmahotsavamatiśayavadabhinandanam| tena sukhaṃ saumanasyaṃ na prāptaṃ nādhigataṃ mayā| nāpi śāsane pratimāstūpasaddharmādisatkāraiḥ vihārārāmaśayanādivastupradānaiśca kārā pūjā kṛtā| nāpi daridrāṇāṃ dhanahīnānāmāśā abhilāṣaḥ sarvopakaraṇasaṃpattisaṃpādanena pūritā| nāpi bhītebhyaḥ sapatnādibhayasamākulitebhyo mā bhaiṣīrityabhayaṃ dattam| nāpi kāyamanoduḥkhairārtāḥ pīḍitāḥ tadapanīya sukhinaḥ kṛtāḥ| iti sarvaiḥ satpuruṣadharmairvirahitatvādāha| duḥkhāyetyādi subodham||



kathaṃ punaretāṃ dharmadaśāṃ prāpto bhavānityāha-

dharmacchandaviyogena paurvikeṇa mamādhunā|

vipattirīdṛśī jātā ko dharme chandamutsṛjet||39||



dharmābhilāṣasyābhāvena prāktanajanmopacitena mama adhunā asmin janmani vipattirīdṛśī jātā| sarvasāmarthyavaikalyasvabhāvā samanantarakathitā samutpannā| evaṃ jñātvā ko dharme chandamutsṛjet parityajet ? ko nāma nopādadīta vicakṣaṇa iti bhāvaḥ||



kiṃ punaḥ kuśalārthināṃ chandotpādane yatna ityāśaṅkaya yaccoktaṃ chandaṃ duḥkhabhayāt kuryāt ityādi, tadvayaktīkartuṃ cāha-

kuśalānāṃ ca sarveṣāṃ chandaṃ mūlaṃ munirjagau|

tasyāpi mūlaṃ satataṃ vipākaphalabhāvanā||40||



na kevalaṃ vipattiparihārārtham, śukladharmopacayārthamapi cchandotpādane yatitavyamiti cakārārthaḥ| sarveṣāmiti na keṣāṃcideva| chandaṃ mūlaṃ kāraṇaṃ bhagavānuktavān, na tu svayamutprekṣya ucyate ityarthaḥ| tasyāpi cchandasyāpi mūlaṃ satataṃ sarvakālaṃ vipākaphalabhāvanā| śubhāśubhakarmaṇo vipākaphalaṃ paraloke iṣṭāniṣṭaprāptilakṣaṇam, tasya bhāvanā punaḥpunarāmukhīkaraṇam||



tatra aśubhakarmaṇo vipākaphalamupadarśayannāha-

duḥkhāni daurmanasyāni bhayāni vividhāni ca|

abhilāṣavighātāśca jāyante pāpakāriṇām||41||



yāvanti kāyikamānasikāni narakādigatau duḥkhāni vividhāni nānāprakārāṇi jāyante bhavanti sarvāṇi pāpakāriṇāmeva| bhayāni badhabandhanatāḍanādibhyaḥ| paryeṣamāṇasya lābhavighātena abhilāṣavighātāśca||



sukṛtakarmaṇo vipākaphalamāha-

manorathaḥ śubhakṛtāṃ yatra yatraiva gacchati|

tatra tatraiva tatpuṇyaiḥ phalārgheṇābhipūjyate||42||



iṣṭāśaṃsanavikalpo manorathaḥ, yasya loke manorājyamiti prasiddhiḥ śubhakṛtāṃ puṇyakāriṇām| yatra yatraiveti vīpsāyāṃ na kvacideva| gacchati prasarati| phalārgheṇeti | abhivāñchitaphalopanāmanameva argha ivārghaḥ pūjā||



tena punaraśubhasya phalamāha-

pāpakārisukhecchā tu yatra yatraiva gacchati|

tatra tatraiva tatpāpairduḥkhaśastrairvihanyate||43||



sukhecchā sukhābhilāṣaḥ| tatpāpairiti kartari tṛtīyā| duḥkhaśastrairiti karaṇaiḥ| duḥkhānyeva śastrāṇīva tadicchāvicchedahetutvāt||



pṛthagjanāsādhāraṇaśubhakarmavipākaphalamasādhāraṇamāha-

vipulasugandhiśītalasaroruhagarbhagatā

madhurajinasvarāśanakṛtopacitadyutayaḥ|

munikarabodhitāmbujavinirgatasadvapuṣaḥ

sugatasutā bhavanti sugatasya puraḥ kuśalaiḥ||44||



pratilabdhamuditādibhūmayo hi bodhisattvā anicchanto mātṛkukṣau notpadyante, kiṃ tarhi sukhāvatyāṃ viśvadalakamalakośeṣu jāyante| teṣāṃ sukhavibhūtimanena kathayati-vipulāni vistīrṇāni sugandhīni manojñagandhāni śītalāni śītasukhasparśāni tāni ca saroruhāṇi paṅkajāni ceti, teṣāṃ garbhāṇi| saroruhagarbhāṇāṃ vā viśeṣaṇānyetāni| teṣu gatāḥ saṃsthitāḥ prajñopāyamahākaruṇāniryātapuṇyajñānakalalasaṃvalitasaṃbodhicittāḥ sugatasutā bhavanti kuśalairiti saṃbandhaḥ| kathaṃ punaḥ padmagarbheṣu puṣṭiṃ labhanta ityāha-madhuretyādi| madhuraiḥ sarvasvarāṅgopetatayā paramasaumanasyakāribhiḥ saṃbaddhadharmaghoṣāśanairāhāraiḥ kṛtā upacitā dyutayo vapūṃṣi yeṣāṃ te tathā| kathaṃ ca tato niryāntītyata āha-munikaretyādi| munikaraiḥ paripākakālamavagamya tathāgataraśmibhirbodhitāni vikāsitāni ca tānyambujāni ceti| tato vinirgatāni niryātāni santi lakṣaṇavyañjanālaṃkṛtatayā śobhanāni vapūṃṣi yeṣāṃ te tathā| tathābhūtāḥ santaḥ sugatasutā bodhisattvā bhavanti jāyante| sugatasya puraḥ sukhāvatyāmamitābhasya bhagavato'grataḥ| kuśalairekāntaśuklaiḥ karmabhiḥ| tadanena mātṛkukṣau samutpadyamānānāmetadviśeṣaṇaviparyayeṇa duḥkhaṃ veditavyamityupadarśitaṃ bhavati| tathā hi tatra saṃkaṭe durgandhini jaṭharānalasaṃtapte ca utpannasya mātāpitraśucisaṃbhūtasya mātuḥ pītāśitairvāntakalpaiḥ saṃvardhamānasya garbhamalapaṅkanimagnasya paripākakāle kathaṃcit kaṇṭhagataprāṇasya yantraniṣpīḍitasyeva tato nirgamanamiti prāyeṇa manuṣyabhūtasya vyatimiśrakarmavipākaphalamuktam||



ekāntakṛṣṇasya tu vipākaphalamāha-

yamapuruṣāpanītasakalacchavirārtaravo

hutavahatāpavidrutakatāmraniṣiktatanuḥ|

jvaladasiśaktighātaśataśātitamāṃsadalaḥ

patati sutaptalohadharaṇīṣvaśubhairbahuśaḥ||45||



yamapuruṣaiḥ kāladūtairapanītā viśleṣitā jvalitamudgarādiprahāraiḥ sakalā samastā chaviścarma prabhāvo vā yasya sa tathā| atiśayenārtaḥ san patati sutaptalohadharaṇīṣu| punarapi kiṃbhūtaḥ ? tīvrānalatāpena dravībhūtaṃ yattāmraṃ tena niṣiktā snāpitā tanuḥ kāyo yasya| ato'pyapanītasakalacchaviḥ| jvalantaḥ asayaḥ śaktayaśca śastraviśeṣāḥ, teṣāṃ ghātaśatairanekaiḥ prahāraiḥ śātitāni viccheditāni māṃsadalāni śakalāni yasya sa tathābhūtaḥ san patati| suṣṭhu taptāsu lohamayabhūmiṣu| aśubhairakuśalaiḥ karmabhiḥ| bahuśa iti bahūn vārān| dīrghakālena tatphalasya parikṣayāt||



tadevaṃ śubhāśubhakarmaṇorvipākaphalaṃ pratipādya cchandabalamupasaṃharannāha-

tasmātkāryaḥ śubhacchando bhāvayitvaivamādarāt|



yata evaṃ śubhāśubhakarmaṇormadhurakaṭukaphalavipākaḥ, tasmādevaṃ paribhāvya śubhacchanda eva ādareṇāśubhakarma vihāya kāryaḥ| sāṃprataṃ sthāmabalaṃ pratipādayitumāha-

vajradhvajasthavidhinā mānaṃ tvārabhya bhāvayet||46||



vajradhvajasūtrapratipāditavidhānena mānaṃ punaḥ sādhyaṃ karmārabhya bhāvayet| athavā| ārabhya bhāvayediti gāḍhasamārambheṇa bhāvayet, cetasi sthiraṃ kuryāt, na śithilopakrameṇetyarthaḥ||



ārambhameva śikṣayitumāha-

pūrvaṃ nirūpya sāmagrīmārabhennārabheta vā|



pūrvaṃ prathamata eva abhimatakāryaniṣpādanāya sāmagrīṃ kāraṇasākalyaṃ nirūpya, tasyā balābalaṃ vicārya, ārabheta sati bale, nārabheta vā asati bale| kimevaṃvicāreṇa prayojanamiti cedāha-

anārambho varaṃ nāma na tvārabhya nivartanam||47||



anārambho varaṃ nāma prathamata eva, na tvārabhya nivartanamaśaktatve sati||

nanu kimatra dūṣaṇaṃ yenaiva neṣyate ityāha-

janmāntare'pi so'bhyāsaḥ pāpādduḥkhaṃ ca vardhate|

anyacca kāryakālaṃ ca hīnaṃ tacca na sādhitam||48||



tathā kriyamāṇaḥ anyasminnapi janmani so'bhyāsa ityārabhya nivartanaṃ nāma| pratijñātamakurvataśca pāpaṃ tato duḥkhaṃ vardhate| anyacca hīnaṃ naṣṭaṃ yatparityajya tadārabdham, kāryakālaṃ ca hīnam| ārabdhaparityaktakāryasya kālo'sya kāryasyeti| tasmin kāle yadanyat kāryaṃ kartavyaṃ tadityarthaḥ| tacca yadārabhya parityaktam, tadapi na sādhitaṃ na niṣpāditam| iti pañcaprakāramatra dūṣaṇam| tena neṣyata ityabhiprāyaḥ||



atha kimayaṃ mānaḥ sarvatra na kartavyaḥ ? netyāha-

triṣu māno vidhātavyaḥ karmopakleśaśaktiṣu|



keṣu triṣu ? tadāha-karmasu upakleśeṣu śaktau ca| tatra upakleśāḥ kṣudravastukasaṃjñitāḥ krodhopanāhamrakṣapradāśādayaḥ sapta| pañcāśat kleśā eva vā rāgādaya upakleśā ucyante| tatra karmamānaṃ vyākhyātumāha-

mayaivaikena kartavyamityeṣā karmamānitā||49||



yatkiṃcidanavadyaṃ karma āpatitaṃ bhavati sattvānām, tat sarvaṃ mayaivaikena kartavyam| nānyasyāvakāśo dātavya ityarthaḥ||



etadeva darśayannāha-

kleśasvatantro loko'yaṃ na kṣamaḥ svārthasādhane|

tasmānmayaiṣāṃ kartavyaṃ nāśakto'haṃ yathā janaḥ||50||



kleśaiḥ parāyattīkṛtaḥ sarvo'yaṃ janakāyaḥ kvacidapi svārthasādhane samartho na bhavati, iti eṣāṃ sarvasukhotpādanāya mayā bodhicittamutpāditam| yata evam, tasmānnāśakto'hamīdṛśaṃ bhāramudboḍhuṃ yathā ayaṃ janaḥ| ato mayaivaiṣāṃ sarvaṃ kartavyam||



dīne'pi karmaṇi vaimukhyaṃ notpādayitavyamityāha-

nīcaṃ karma karotyanyaḥ kathaṃ mayyapi tiṣṭhati|



nīcamatigarhitaṃ loke bhārodvahanādikam| mayyapi sarvasattvānāṃ dāsabhūte'pi tiṣṭati vidyamāne'pi| matkaraṇīyaṃ kathamanyaḥ karoti ? mayaiva kartumucitamiti bhāvaḥ| athāpratirūpam, mamaiva tat karmeti cittasyonnatiṃ nivārayitumāha-

mānāccenna karomyetanmāno naśyatu me varam||51||



ko'muṣyaputraḥ, idaṃ ca karma atinihīnam, tadayuktaṃ mama kartumiti mānādyadi na karomi, tadā māno naśyatu me varam| kimanena mahārthabhraṃśakāriṇā mama, na tu nīcakarmapravṛttiḥ||



iti karmasu mānamabhidhāya upakleśeṣu mānamupadarśayitumāha-

mṛtaṃ duṇḍubhamāsādya kāko'pi garuḍāyate|

āpadābādhate'lpāpi mano me yadi durbalam||52||



yadi upakleśeṣu nihatamānatayā durbalavṛtti mama cittaṃ syāt, tadā āpadāpattiḥ ābādhate ākrāmati yathā sāpattikaṃ syādityarthaḥ| alpāpi mṛdupracāropakleśajanitāpi| kathamivetyāha-mṛtamapagataprāṇaṃ duṇḍubhaṃ prāpya yathā kāko'pi garuḍavadācarati||



kutaḥ punarevamityāha-

viṣādakṛtaniśceṣṭe āpadaḥ sukarā nanu|

vyutthitaśceṣṭamānastu mahatāmapi durjayaḥ||53||



cittonnativirahite viṣaṇṇatayā mandakāyacittapravṛttau ālasyopahate muṣitasmṛtau āpadaḥ sukarāḥ sulabhāḥ| utpadyanta eva svalpāpadāpi gamyatvāt| vyutthitaḥ samunnatacittatayā punarutsāhasaṃpannaḥ ceṣṭamānaḥ smṛtisaṃprajanyābhyāmupakleśānāmanavakāśaṃ dadānaḥ mahatāmapi durjayaḥ ajayyaḥ syāt||



tasmāddṛḍhena cittena karomyāpadamāpadaḥ|

trailokyavijigīṣutvaṃ hāsyamāpajjitasya me||54||



sthāmabalāvalambanaṃ nigamayan darśayati-yata evaṃ tasmāt dṛḍhena cittena mānasaṃnāhaḥ| āpada eva āpadamanarthaṃ karomi sarvathā tadanupraveśaṃ nivārayannunmūlitasaṃtānaṃ karomi| anyathā trijagadvijayārambho mama hāsyamupahasanīyam, āpadā āpadāyattatayā varākikayā jitasya gamiṣyati||



kīdṛśametadityāha-

mayā hi sarvaṃ jetavyamahaṃ jeyo na kenacit|

mayaiṣa māno voḍhavyo jinasiṃhasuto hyaham||55||



kutaḥ ? yasmājjinā eva bhagavantaḥ siṃhāḥ sarvamāramṛgairanabhigamyatvāt| teṣāṃ sutaḥ ahamapi kathamanyaiḥ parājito nāma nāmadheyaṃ lapsye iti manasi nidhāya mayaiṣa māno boḍhavyaḥ| yathā hi siṃhakiśoraḥ pratilabdhavaiśāradyaḥ sarvānyamṛgairanabhibhūta eva vane vicarati, tathā mayā dṛḍhena bhavitavyamityarthaḥ||



syādetat-yadi yavam, tadā ye'pi sapatnādivijayāya mānamudvahanti, te'pi māninaḥ praśasyāḥ kathaṃ na bhaveyuḥ? ityatrāha-



ye sattvā mānavijitā varakāste na māninaḥ|

mānī śatruvaśaṃ naiti mānaśatruvaśāśca te||56||



mānavijitāḥ mānena abhibhūtāḥ varākāstapasvinaḥ te mānino bhavantyeva| kutaḥ ? mānī śatruvaśaṃ naiti na gacchati| nāsau vairijanānuvṛttiṃ karotītyarthaḥ| ye bhavatābhimatā māninaḥ, te mānaśatruvaśāḥ tadāyattapravṛttayaḥ||



etadeva ślokadvayena samarthayitumāha-

mānena durgatiṃ nītā mānuṣye'pi hatotsavāḥ|

parapiṇḍāśino dāsā mūrkhā durdarśanāḥ kṛśā||57||



sarvataḥ paribhūtāśca mānastabdhāstapasvinaḥ|

te'pi cenmānināṃ madhye dīnāstu vada kīdṛśāḥ||58||



saptavidhamāneṣu anyatamena mānena durgatiṃ nītā narakādiṣu pātitāḥ| atha kathaṃcinmanuṣyapratilambho bhavati teṣām, tadā tatrāpi tannindāphalena hatotsavā nirānandā bhavanti| hīnadīnamanasa ityarthaḥ| parapiṇḍāśinaḥ āhāravaikalyāt paradattabhikṣāhārabhujaḥ| dāsāḥ paratantravṛttayo bhṛtyāḥ| mūrkhāḥ sarvavikekaśūnyāḥ| durdarśanāḥ virūpātmabhāvā aprītijanakāśca| kṛśāḥ durbalaśarīrāḥ sāmarthyarahitāśca| sarvataḥ sarvebhyo'kṛtāparādhā api kāyavacaḥparibhavalābhino bhavanti| ke punarevam ? mānastabdhāstapasvinaḥ mānena stabdhāḥ anamrāḥ| tapasvino varākāḥ| te'pi cet, evaṃbhūtā api yadi mānināṃ madhye gaṇyante, tarhi dīnāḥ kṛpaṇāḥ kṛpāpātramityarthaḥ| punaranye dīnāḥ kīdṛśā bhavantīti vada brūhi [iti] codakamāmantrayate||



yadi evaṃvidhā mānino nocyante, kīdṛśāstarhi te bhavantītyāha-

te mānino vijayinaśca ta eva śūrā

ye mānaśatruvijayāya vahanti mānam|

ye taṃ sphurantamapi mānaripuṃ nihatya

kāmaṃ jane jayaphalaṃ pratipādayanti||59||



ta eva mānina ucyante ye bodhisattvāḥ taṃ sphurantamapi prabhavantamapi mānavairiṇaṃ nihatya vidhūya| kāmaṃ yatheṣṭam| uddāmeti yāvat| jane loke sadevakādike jayaphalaṃ prakāśayanti buddhatvāvasthāyām| etādṛśaṃ tanmānaśatruvijayaphalaṃ yādṛśamasmāsu dṛśyate ityabhiprāyaḥ| ta eva vijayinaśca labdhavijayāḥ| ta eva śūrāstejasvina iti padadvayaṃ yathāsaṃbhavaṃ yojyam||



upakleśeṣu mānaṃ pratipādya śaktau mānamāha-

saṃkleśapakṣamadhyastho bhavedduptaḥ sahasraśaḥ|



saṃkleśānāṃ pakṣo vargaḥ, tasya madhye tiṣṭhan sahasraguṇena dṛptataro bhavet, atiśayavacchauryabalamavalambeta| kiṃbhūtaḥ sannityāha-

duryodhanaḥ kleśagaṇaiḥ siṃho mṛgagaṇairiva||60||



duḥkhena yodhyata iti duryodhanaḥ| kathaṃcidapi na parājīyate ityarthaḥ| kathamiva ? yathā hi siṃho mṛgarājaḥ mṛgakulamadhye mahātejobalasamanvāgato viharan vane sarvamṛgānabhibhavati, na ca tairabhibhūyata iti, evaṃ bodhisattvo duryodhano bhavet||



idamaparamapi nimittamudgahītavyamityāha-

mahatsvapi hi kṛcchreṣu na rasaṃ cakṣurīkṣate|

evaṃ kṛcchramapi prāpya na kleśavaśago bhavet||61||



atiprakarṣavatsu api kṛcchreṣu duḥkheṣu satsu rasaṃ madhurādikaṃ jihvendriyagrāhyaṃ na cakṣurīkṣate na pratipadyate| na viṣayīkarotītyarthaḥ| tasyāviṣayatvāt| nāviṣaye pravartata iti bhāvaḥ| evamuktarasacakṣurnyāyena kaṣṭamapi prāpya na kleśavaśaṃ gacchet||



ityuktena prabandhena sthāmabalaṃ vidhāya ratibalamāvedayitumāha-

yadevāpadyate karma tatkarmavyasanī bhavet|

tatkarmaśauṇḍo'tṛptātmā krīḍāphalasukhepsuvat||62||



karma saṃbhāranibandhanaṃ dhyānādhyayanādilakṣaṇaṃ yadevāpadyate, kramakaraṇayogenāpatitaṃ bhavet, tasminneva karmaṇi vyasanī bhavet tatkriyārasanimagnacittaḥ| tatkarmaśauṇḍaḥ tatpravṛttilampaṭaḥ| atṛptātmā punaḥpunarabhilāṣayuktaḥ| ka iva ? krīḍāphalasukhepsuvat dyūtādikrīḍāyā yatphalaṃ sukhaṃ tadāptumicchuriva||



ito'pi vicārayatā karmaṇi ratirutpādayitavyetyupadarśayannāha-

sukhārtha kriyate karma tathāpi syānna vā sukham|

karmaiva tu sukhaṃ yasya niṣkarmā sa sukhī katham||63||



sarvaireva karmaphalasukhalipsayā karma kriyate| anyathā tatra pravṛttirna syāt| tathāpi evaṃ cetasā pravṛttāvapi kasyacit karmaṇo'bhivāñchitaphalaṃ syāt, kasyacit punarna syāt| niṣphalārambhasyāpi saṃbhavāt| tathāpi karmārambhāt punaḥ phalasaṃbhāvanayā naiva nivartate janaḥ| yasya punaḥ karmaiva sukham, na taduttaramaparasukhābhilāṣaḥ, sa niṣkarmā karmavirahitaḥ kathaṃ sukhī syāt ? na kathaṃcidityarthaḥ||



idamapi bhāvayatā karmaṇyabhiniveṣṭavyamityāha-

kāmairna tṛptiḥ saṃsāre kṣuradhārāmadhūpamaiḥ|

puṇyāmṛtaiḥ kathaṃ tṛptirvipākamadhuraiḥ śivaiḥ||64||



rūpādiviṣayaiḥ| saṃsāra iti saṃsarati punaḥ punaḥ| abhūtairatṛptiḥ anāpyāyanam| kiṃbhūtaiḥ ? kṣuradhārāmadhūpamaiḥ kṣuradhārāyāṃ yanmadhu madhurasaṃ yadāsvādya tṛṣṇāvaśājjihvocchedanottarakālaṃ duḥkhamupajāyate, tenopamā upamānaṃ yādṛśaṃ yeṣāṃ te| āpātamātramādhurye'pi pariṇatiduḥkhena kaṭukarasattvātteṣāmityabhiprāyaḥ| puṇyānyeva amṛtānīva, taiḥ kathaṃ tṛptirastu ? kiṃviśiṣṭaiḥ ? vipākamadhurairabhyudayaphalasukhahetutayā pariṇāmena madhurarasatvāt| paramasukhajanakaiḥ śivaiḥ kalyāṇakāribhirniḥśreyasāvāhakatayā| ajarāmaraphaladānaparatvāt sarvaduḥkhanirvartakairityarthaḥ| ata eva puṇyāmṛtairityatra hetupadametat||



tasmādityupasaṃhāreṇa punaḥ karmābhirāmaṃ draḍhayannāha-

tasmātkarmāvasāne'pi nimajjettatra karmaṇi|

yathā madhyāhnasaṃtapta ādau prāptasarāḥ karī||65||



tasya ārabdhasya karmaṇaḥ avasāne'pi nimajjet, tadabhiniveśarasanimagna eva vimuñcet| kathamiva ? yathā grīṣmasamaye madhyaṃdinavartini sūrye sarvato jalamalabhamānaśca ātāpatāpito hastī paramābhiniveśasaṃyuktaḥ atiśayavadāhlādakāriśītalajalaparipūritaṃ hadamāsādya prathamato nimajjati tathā iti samudāyārthaḥ| prāptaṃ saro yena sa tathā| paścātkarmadhārayaḥ| ādāvityasya nimajjatītyanena saṃbandhaḥ||



idānīṃ ratibalaṃ vyākhyāya muktibalaṃ vyākhyātumāha-

balanāśānubandhe tu punaḥ kartuṃ parityajet|

susamāptaṃ ca tanmuñceduttarottaratṛṣṇayā||66||



ārabdhakarmaniṣpādane sāmarthyakṣayamātmano'vagamya sāmarthyapratilambhe sati punaḥ kariṣyāmi ityabhiprāyeṇa tāvatkālaṃ parityajet muñcet| na tāvatāsya vikṣepaḥ syāt| anyathā tathāpi tadaparityāge'narthasamāveśa eva syāt| yadāpi suniṣpannaṃ tadārabdhaṃ karma bhavet, tadāpi moktavyam| anyathā svarasavāhitayāpi tasmin pravṛtte punarvyāpārādvikṣepa eva syāt| tasmādaparāparaviśeṣākāṅkṣayā tanmuñcet parityajet| etena yaduktaṃ prāk-pūrvaṃ samīkṣya sāmagrīm [7.47] ityādi, tasyotsargasyāyamapavāda uktaḥ||



tadevamavāntaraviśeṣopadarśanena balavyūhaṃ sarvathābhidhāya prathamoddeśapratipāditamapi punaśchandādigaṇe [7.16] kathitaṃ tātparyaṃ vyācakṣāṇa āha-

kleśaprahārān saṃrakṣet kleśāṃśca prahareddṛḍham|

khaṅgayuddhamivāpannaḥ śikṣitenāriṇā saha||67||



kleśānāṃ prahārān upaghātān saṃrakṣet nivārayet| yathā teṣāṃ praharo na prabhavatītyarthaḥ| kleśān punaḥ praharet nihanyāt| dṛḍhaṃ gāḍhaprahāreṇa| yathā punaravakāśaṃ na labheran| atra nidarśanamāha-yathā śikṣitena śastravidyākauśalasamanvāgatena śatruṇā saha nipuṇataraḥ khaṅgena saṃgrāmayan tamabhibhavati, na ca tenābhibhūta iti||



tathā tatretyādinā punastātparyaṃ śikṣayitumāha-

tatra khaṅgaṃ yathā bhraṣṭaṃ gṛhṇīyātsabhayastvaran|

smṛtikhaṅgaṃ tathā bhraṣṭaṃ gṛhṇīyānnarakān smaran||68||



tatra tasmin khaṅgayuddhe yathā khaṅgaṃ hastāt kathaṃcit vicalitaṃ punaḥ saṃvṛtya gṛhṇīyāt samayaḥ, mā māmayaṃ chalamanupraviśya śatrurvadhīt| tvaranniti śīghrameva| na kālapratilambeneti yāvat| tathā tadvadeva smṛtipramoṣe| smṛtireva khaṅga iva kleśaśatruvijayāya| taṃ bhraṣṭamapagataṃ gṛhṇīyāt āmukhīkuryāt| narakān rauravādīn smaran| skhalite sati tadduḥkhabhāgitāṃ manasikurvan||



nanu sūkṣmakleśasamudācāre'pi kā kṣatiḥ yena tatra upekṣā na kriyate ityatrāha-

viṣaṃ rudhiramāsādya prasarpati yathā tanau|

tathaiva cchidramāsādya doṣaścitte prasarpati||69||



aṇumātrasyāpi doṣasya avakāśo na dātavyaḥ| anyathā tanmātrasyāpyanupraveśe citte tatprasarāvarodhasya kartumaśakyatvāt| yathā hi svalpavraṇe'pi rudhirasaṃparkavato viṣasya śarīre| tasmādaṇumātrakleśaprahāranivāraṇe'pi tātparyaṃ kuryāt||



punaranyathā tātparyaṃ dṛḍhīkurvannāha-

tailapātradharo yadvadasihastairadhiṣṭhitaḥ|

skhalite maraṇatrāsāttatparaḥ syāttathā vratī||70||



yathā kaścit puruṣaścaṇḍanṛpājñayā tailaparipūrṇapātramādāya picchalasaṃkrameṇa asihastai rājapuruṣaiḥ bindumātratailabhraṃśe'pi adyaiva tvāṃ prāṇairviyojayiṣyāma iti bruvāṇairadhiṣṭhito gacchan yadi mamātra kathaṃcit skhalitaṃ syāt, tadā nūnamamī māṃ vyāpādayeyuriti maraṇabhayāttatparo bhavati, tathā vratī gṛhītasaṃvaraḥ prakṛtaskhalite narakādiduḥkhatrāsāt tadanavakāśāya tatparaḥ syāt yatnavān bhavet||



uktamupasaṃhṛtya darśayannāha-

tasmādutsaṅgage sarpe yathottiṣṭhati satvaram|

nidrālasyāgame tadvat pratikurvīta satvaram||71||



yata evam, tasmādutsaṅgage kroḍagate sarpe āśīviṣe yathā tvaritamevottiṣṭhati-mā māmayamahirdakṣīt, tathaiva nidrālasyāgame middhastyānaprādurbhāve pratikurvīta tatpratipakṣānityatādibhāvanaya pratīkāraṃ kuryāt||



asya caivaṃ yatnavato'pi kathaṃcit kiṃcit skhalitaṃ śūraskhalitanyāyena syāt| tadā pratīkāraṃ kṛtvā punaryatnavān bhavet| ityupadarśayannāha-

ekaikasmiṃśchale suṣṭhu paritapya vicintayet|

kathaṃ karomi yenedaṃ punarme na bhavediti||72||



smṛtipramoṣe sati ekaikasmin pratyekaṃ chale skhalite kathaṃcit kleśānāmanupraveśe sati paritapya adhyāśayena manastāpaṃ kṛtsna vicintayet-aho bata jānanneva skhalito'smi, tatkena prakāreṇātra pratividhānaṃ karomi yena punaridaṃ chalaṃ na syāt ? ityevaṃ dṛḍhasamārambhaṃ samādāya viharet| na tu punaḥ śithilaḥ syāditi bhāvaḥ||



ata eva vivekakāmānāṃ pratiṣiddhamapyanujānannāha-

saṃsargaṃ karma vā prāptamicchedetena hetunā|



ācāryopādhyāyatadanyasabrahmacāriprabhṛtibhiḥ bahuśrutaiḥ tripiṭakavedibhiḥ kaukṛtyavinodanakuśalaiḥ saha saṃsargaṃ samavadhānamicchedāśaṃset| tanniśrita eva tiṣṭhedityabhiprāyaḥ| karma vā prāptaṃ tadavavādānuśāsanīlakṣaṇam, āpattisamuddharaṇam, tairdaṇḍakarmapraṇayanaṃ vā samutpannamicchet| etena hetunā teṣāmavatārasaṃrakṣaṇābhiprāyeṇa| etadevāha-



kathaṃ nāmāsvavasthāsu smṛtyabhyāso bhavediti||73||



kena vidhinā nāma āsu avasthāsu kleśāvatāradaśāsu smṛtyabhyāso bhavet, ayatnata evālambanāt saṃpramoṣo na syāt, ityanena abhiprāyeṇa| ayaṃ samudāyārthaḥ-kalyāṇamitrasaṃnidhānāt tadavavādānuśāsanītaḥ tadācārasaṃdarśanācca sadā smṛtisaṃprajanyavihāriṇaḥ kleśā nāvatāraṃ labhante| tato'sya avirodhata eva utsāho vardhata iti yuktam|



sadā kalyāṇamitraṃ ca jīvitārthe'pi na tyajet| iti|

tathā-

upādhyāyānuśāsanyā bhītyāpyādarakāriṇām|

dhanyānāṃ gurusaṃvāsāt sukaraṃ jāyate smṛtiḥ||iti||

[bodhi. 5.30]



adhunā tātparyamupadarśya ātmavidheyatāmupadarśayitumāha-

laghuṃ kuryāttathātmānamapramādakathāṃ smaran|

karmāgamādyathā pūrvaṃ sajjaḥ sarvatra vartate||74||



sarvakarmaṇyamātmānaṃ kāyavākcittalakṣaṇaṃ tathā kuryāt, utsāhābhyāsādāyattiṃ nayedityarthaḥ| yathā karmāgamāt karmārambhāt pūrvaṃ prāgeva sajjaḥ āyattīkṛtaḥ sudāntāśvavat tanmārganirīkṣaṇāsīna iva karmaṇi pravartate||



uktamevārthamudāharaṇena vyaktīkurvannāha-

yathaiva tūlakaṃ vāyorgamanāgamane vaśam|

tathotsāhavaśaṃ yāyādṛddhiścaivaṃ samṛdhyati||75||



tūlakaṃ karpāsādisamudbhūtaṃ yathā vāyorgamane ca āgamane ca vaśamāyattam, tathā tadvadeva utsāhavaśaṃ yāyāt vīryavaśavartī bhavet| evamabhyāsaparāyaṇasya ṛddhiśca ākāśagamanādilakṣaṇā samṛdhyati saṃpadyate||



parātmasamatāparātmaparivartane punaḥ ubhayatrāpi upayukte iti dhyānaparicchede eva vyākhyeye||



iti prajñākaramativiracitāyāṃ bodhicaryāvatārapañjikāyāṃ

vīryapāramitā nāma saptamaḥ paricchedaḥ||
