tadevaṃ bahudhā śīlaviśuddhiṃ pratipādya ātmabhāvādīnāṃ rakṣāṃ śuddhiṃ pratipādya śubhaviśuddhiṃ pratipādayitum, yaccoktam-



kṣameta śrutameṣeta saṃśrayeta vanaṃ tataḥ|

samādhānāya yujyeta bhāvayedaśubhādikam||

ityetacca abhidhātumupakramate sarvamityādinā-

sarvametatsucaritaṃ dānaṃ sugatapūjanam|

kṛtaṃ kalpasahasrairyatpratighaḥ pratihanti tat||1||



sarvametaditi śīlasaṃvarasamādānaprasūtam| sucaritaṃ kuśalaṃ karma| dānaṃ trividham| sāmānyena sugatapūjanamapi trividham| kṛtam upārjitamanekaiḥ kalpasahasrairyat tat sarvaṃ pratighaḥ sattvavidveṣaḥ pratihanti nirdahati bahnilava iva tṛṇasaṃghātam||



āryamañjuśrīvikrīḍitasūtre cāha-pratighaḥ pratigha iti mañjuśrīḥ kalpaśatopacitaṃ kuśalaṃ pratihanti, tenocyate pratigha iti||



āryasarvāstivādinā paṭhyate-paśyatha bhikṣava etaṃ bhikṣuṃ keśanakhastūpe sarvāṅgena praṇipatya cittamabhiprasādayantam ? evaṃ bhadanta| anena bhikṣavo bhikṣuṇā yāvatī bhūmirākrāntā, adhaścaturaśītiyojanasahasrāṇi, yāvat kāñcanavajramaṇḍalāntare yāvantyo vālikāḥ, tāvantyanena bhikṣuṇā cakravartirājyasahasrāṇi paribhoktavyāni| yāvat| athāyuṣmānupāliryena bhagavāṃstenāñjaliṃ praṇamya bhagavantametadavocat-yaduktaṃ bhagavatā asya bhikṣorevaṃ mahānti kuśalamūlāni| kutremāni bhagavan kuśalāni tanutvaṃ parikṣayaṃ paryādānaṃ gacchanti? nāhamupāle evaṃ kṣatimupahatiṃ ca samanupaśyāmi yathā sabrahmacārī sabrahmacāriṇo'ntike duṣṭacittamutpādayati| tatropāle imāni mahānti kuśalamūlāni tanutvaṃ parikṣayaṃ paryādānaṃ gacchanti| tasmāttarhi upāle evaṃ śikṣitavyaṃ yaddagdhasthūṇāyāmapi cittaṃ na pradūṣayiṣyāmaḥ, prāgeva savijñānake kāye iti||



ata evāha-



na ca dveṣasamaṃ pāpaṃ na ca kṣāntisamaṃ tapaḥ|

tasmātkṣāntiṃ prayatnena bhāvayedvividhairnayaiḥ||2||



na ca dveṣeṇa samaṃ pāpamaśubhaṃ puṇyābhibhavaheturasti| na ca kṣāntyā titikṣayā samaṃ tulyaṃ tapaḥ| sumahatpariśramasādhyatvāt sukṛtam| yata evam, tasmāt kṣāntiṃ kṣamāṃ sarvatātparyeṇa bhavayedabhyaset| vividhairnānāprakārairupāyairvakṣyamāṇaiḥ||



dṛṣṭadharma eva dveṣasya doṣān vṛttatrayeṇopadarśayannāha-



manaḥ śamaṃ na gṛhṇāti na prītisukhamaśrute|

na nidrāṃ na dhṛtiṃ yāti dveṣaśalye hṛdi sthite||3||



pūjayatyarthamānauryān ye'pi cainaṃ samāśritāḥ|

te'pyanaṃ hantumicchanti svāminaṃ dveṣadurbhagam||4||



suhṛdo'pyudvijante'smād dadāti na ca sevyate|

saṃkṣepānnāsti tatkiṃcit krodhano yena susthitaḥ||5||



śamaṃ praśamaṃ na gṛhṇāti nāśrayate| anupaśānta eva sadā dveṣānalaprajvalitatvāt na prītisukhaṃ saumanasyasukhamaśnute āpnoti, tenaivākrāntatvāt| na nidrāṃ na dhṛtiṃ cittasukhaṃ labhate kāyacittasaṃtāpakāriṇi dveṣaśalye hṛdayanivāsini| pūjayati satkaroti lābhasatkārairyān| ye'pi cānujīvinaḥ, evaṃ dveṣiṇaṃ svāminamapakartumicchanti| kimiti ? dveṣadurbhagam apriyamiti hetupadametat| suhṛdo bhitrāṇyapi udvijante uttrasanti asmād dveṣiṇaḥ| dānonmukho'pi bhṛtyavargairna sevyate nopagamyate| kiṃ bahunā ? idamiha saṃkṣepeṇāvadhāryatām-nāsti tadupaśamakāraṇaṃ kiṃcidyena kopanaḥ sukhaṃ labheta||



cittasya karkaśāvasthā dveṣaḥ| tasyodbhūtavṛttistu krodhaḥ, yadvaśāt daṇḍādigrahaṇaṃ kriyate| iti anayorbhede'pi dvayorapi parihartavyatayā abhedenaiva nirdeśaḥ||



evamiha dṛṣṭadharme'pi dveṣadoṣānavagamya tatparityāgāya yatnavatā bhavitavyamityāha-



evamādīni duḥkhāni karotītyarisaṃjñayā|

yaḥ krodhaṃ hanti nirbandhāt sa sukhīha paratra ca||6||



evaṃ yathoktaprakāreṇa duḥkhāni janayati yasmāt, tasmād yaḥ sukṛtātmā nirbandhāt, gāḍhābhiniveśāt| ārabdhavīrya ityarthaḥ| sa sukhī ihaloke paraloke ca||



idānīṃ dveṣopaghātāya tatkāraṇamupahantuṃ vyavasthāṃ kurvannāha-



aniṣṭakaraṇājjātamiṣṭasya ca vighātanāt|

daurmanasyāśanaṃ prāpya dveṣo dṛpto nihanti mām||7||

tasmādvighātayiṣyāmi tasyāśanamahaṃ ripoḥ|



ātmātmīyagrahaprasūte iṣṭāniṣṭe| ātmātmīyayoḥ sukhasādhanamiṣṭam, tadviparītamaniṣṭam, iti kalpanākṛtamevaitat| na tu paramārthataḥ kiṃcidiṣṭamaniṣṭaṃ vā saṃbhavati| tasmānmithyābhiniveśavāsanāvaśāt aniṣṭasya karaṇāt, iṣṭasya copahananād daurmanasyaṃ mānasaṃ duḥkhamupajāyate, tasmāt tatkāriṇi tadvirodhini vā dveṣa utpadyate| iti daurmanasyameva balabadbhojanaṃ labdhasāmarthyaḥ san dveṣo nihanti mām iti niścitya tatpuṣṭikāraṇaṃ ca haniṣyāmi prathamataḥ| tasmin hate sukhameva| tasya hananāt, samūlaghātaṃ hatasya punarutthānāyogācca||



nanu ko'yamatyarthamabhiniveśo bhavata ityāha-

yasmānna madvadhādanyatkṛtyamasyāsti vairiṇaḥ||8||



yasmāt mama vadhaṃ vihāya rātriṃdivamaparaṃ na kiṃcid dveṣasya vairiṇaḥ karaṇīyamasti||



evaṃ dveṣadoṣān vibhāvya sarvopāyena tadvipakśabhūtāṃ kṣāntimutpādayet| tatra kṣāntistrividhā dharmasaṃgītisūtre'bhihitā| tadyathā-duḥkhādhivāsanākṣāntiḥ, dharmanidhyānakṣāntiḥ, parāpakāramarṣaṇakṣāntiśca| tatra tāvadduḥkhādhivāsanākṣāntimadhikṛtyāha-

atyaniṣṭāgamenāpi na kṣobhyā muditā mayā|

daurmanasye'pi nāstīṣṭaṃ kuśalaṃ tvavahīyate||9||



duḥkhādhivāsanākṣāntivipakṣaḥ aniṣṭāgamaprāptaduḥkhabhīrutā, iṣṭavighātaprāptaśca sukhābhiṣvaṅgaḥ| tābhyāṃ daurmanasyam| tato dveṣo līnacittatā vā| ata evāha candrapradīpasūtresukhe'nabhiṣvaṅgaḥ, duḥkhe'vaimukhyam| iti| ratnameghasūtre'pyuktam-ya ime ādhyātmikāḥ śokaparidevaduḥkhadaurmanasyopāyāsāḥ, tān kṣamate adhivāsayatīti||



ato yadi nāma mama śiraśchidyate, tathāpi na kṣobhyā na vikopayitavyā muditā mayā| muditā hi daurmanasyapratipakṣaḥ| duḥkhāgame'pi pramuditacittasya daurmanasyānavakāśāt, iti daurmanasyanirāsāya muditā yatnena rakṣitavyā| kutaḥ ? daurmanasye'pi kṛte iṣṭavighāte sati nāstīṣṭaṃ nābhilaṣitaṃ setsyati| ayaṃ tu viśeṣaḥ syāt-kuśalaṃ punarupahanyate||



muditā ca āryākśayamatisūtre varṇitā-tatra katamā muditā ? yā buddhadharmāṇāmanusmaraṇāt prītiḥ prasādaḥ prāmodyaṃ cittasyānavalīnatā anavamṛdyatā aparitarṣaṇatā, sarvakāmaratīnāmapakarṣaṇāt sarvadharmaratīnāṃ pratiṣṭhānam, cittasya prāmodyam, kāyasyaudvilyam, buddheḥ saṃpraharṣaṇam, manasa utpalavaḥ, tathāgatakāyābhinandanaratiḥ| iti vistaraḥ||



kiṃ cedamavicārayato daurmanasyamutpadyate ityāha-

yadyastyeva pratīkāro daurmanasyena tatra kim|

atha nāsti pratīkāro daurmanasyena tatra kim||10||



yadi ca iṣṭavighātanivartanāya aniṣṭopanipātapratiṣedhāya ca pratīkāraḥ upāyāntaramasti, tadā daurmanasyena tatra kim ? tadeva anuṣṭhīyatām| atha nāsti, tadāpi daurmanasyena tatra kim ? na kiṃcit prayojanam| upāyābhāvāt sarvathā gatametat| iti vicārya daurmanasyanivartanameva varam||



abhyāsād duḥkhamabādhakaṃ bhavatīti prasādhayitumupakramate-

duḥkhaṃ nyakkārapāruṣyamayaśaścetyanīpsitam|

priyāṇāmātmano vāpi śatroścaitadviparyayāt||11||



duḥkhaṃ kāyikaṃ mānasikaṃ ceti dvividham| tatra kāyikaṃ daṇḍādighātajam| mānasikaṃ nyakkārādinimittam| tatra nyakkāro dhikkāraḥ| pārūṣyaṃ marmaghaṭṭanāvacanam| ayaśaśca akīrtiḥ vaiguṇyaprakāśanam| ityetatsarvamanabhilaṣitam| yadi pareṣāṃ śivaṃ nanu ? tadarthamāha-priyāṇām| ātmīyatvena ye svīkṛtāḥ, premasthānaṃ teṣāmātmanaśca| duḥkhādikārakasya punaḥ śatroretadviparyayāt| tasya duḥkhādikamabhīṣṭameva||



tatra duḥkhasahiṣṇutāṃ tāvannirākartumāha-

kathaṃcillabhyate saukhyaṃ duḥkhaṃ sthitamayatnataḥ|

duḥkhenaiva ca niḥsāraḥ cetastasmād dṛḍhībhava||12||



mahatā prāyatnena kuśalapakṣamupasevya kadācit karhicit sudurlabhaṃ saṃsāre sāsravaṃ sukhaṃ labhyate| duḥkhaṃ tu sarvadā sulabham, ayatnasiddhatvāt, iti tadabhyāso na duṣkaraḥ, sarvadā paricitatvāt| kiṃ ca| saṃsāraniḥsaraṇopāyo'pi duḥkhameva| tathāpi pātheyarūpatayā tatparigraho yukta eva| yata evam, tasmāt he citta, duḥkhānubhavanāya dṛḍhībhava, mā kātaratāmāśrayasva||



api ca| idaṃ duḥkhaṃ mahārthasādhakatvāt soḍhumucitam, iti manasi kartavyam, ityāha-

durgāputrakakarṇāṭā dāhacchedādivedanām|

vṛthā sahante muktyarthamahaṃ kasmāttu kātaraḥ||13||



durgāputrakāḥ caṇḍīsutāḥ| mahānavamīsamayādiṣu trirātramekāhaṃ vā upoṣya gātradāhacchedanabhedanaṃ kurvanto duḥkhāṃ vedanāṃ niṣphalamevānubhavanti| tathā karṇāṭadeśādisamudbhūtā dākṣiṇātyā uparināmalikhanamātrābhimānataḥ parasparaṃ spardhamānā anekābhiḥ kāraṇābhirduḥkhamanubhavanto jīvitamapyutsṛjanti| ahaṃ tu svaparātmanoḥ paramadurlabhabuddhatvasādhanāya kṛtotsāhaḥ duḥkhaiḥ kasmāt kāraṇāt kātarībhavāmi ?



syādetat-atyalpaduḥkhaṃ kathaṃcitsoḍhuṃ śakyate| karacaraṇaśiraśchedanādiduḥkhaṃ narakādiduḥkhaṃ vā muktayarthaṃ kathaṃ nu soḍhavyamityatrāha-

na kiṃcidasti tadvastu yadabhyāsasya duṣkaram|

tasmānmṛduvyathābhyāsāt soḍhavyāpi mahāvyathā||14||



śāstrābhyāsakalādi kauśalādi mṛdumadhyātimātraduḥkhānubhavanādi vā vastu na tadvidyate kiṃcit yadabhyāsagocaro na bhavati| sarvameva abhyāsādātmasātkartuṃ śakyata iti bhāvaḥ| yasmāt tasmāt atyalpatarādivyathābhyāsānnarakādimahāvyathāpi soḍhuṃ [śakyate]| yathoktam-tatra alpaduḥkhābhyāsapūrvakaṃ kaṣṭakaṣṭatarābhyāsaḥ sidhyati| yathā ca abhyāsavaśāt sattvānāṃ duḥkhasukhasaṃjñā, tathā sarvaduḥkhotpādeṣu sukhasaṃjñāpratyupasthānābhyāsāt sukhasaṃjñaiva pratyupatiṣṭhate| evaṃ niṣpandaphalaṃ ca sarvadharmasukhākrāntaṃ nāma samādhiṃ pratilabhate| uktaṃ hi pitāputrasamāgame-



asti bhagavan sarvadharmasukhākrānto nāma samādhiḥ, yasya samādheḥ pratilambhād bodhisattvaḥ sarvārambaṇavastuṣu sukhāmeva vedanāṃ vedayate na duḥkhām, nāduḥkhasukhām| tasya nairayikāmapi vedanāṃ kāryamāṇasya sukhasaṃjñaiva pratyupasthitā bhavati| mānuṣīmapi kāraṇāṃ kāryamāṇasya, hasteṣvapi chidyamāneṣu pādeṣvapi karṇeṣvapi nāsāsvapi, sukhasaṃjñaiva pratyupasthitā bhavati| vetrairapi tāḍyamānasya ardhavetrairapi kaśābhirapi tāḍayamānasya sukhasaṃjñā pravartate| bandhanāgāreṣvapi prakṣiptasya, tailapācikāṃ vā kriyamāṇasya, ikṣukuṭṭitikaṃ vā kuṭyamānasya, naḍacippitikaṃ vā cipyamānasya, tailapradyotikaṃ vā ādīpyamānasya yāvat kārṣāpaṇacchedikāṃ chidyamānasya piṣṭapācanikāṃ vā pācyamānasya, hastibhirvā mardyamānasya sukhasaṃjñaiva pravartate|| iti vistaraḥ||



syādevaitad yadi prathamata eva mṛduvyathābhyasaḥ syāt| yāvatā sa eva nāstīti| atrāha-



uddaṃśadaṃśamaśakakṣutpipāsādivedanām|

mahatkaṇḍvādiduḥkhaṃ ca kimanarthaṃ na paśyasi||15||



uddaṃśādikṛtaduḥkhamanarthaṃ kiṃ na paśyasi ? tadayatnasiddhaṃ mṛduvyathābhyāsanimittamastyeva iti bhāvaḥ||



punaranyathā svacittaṃ draḍhayitumāha-

śītoṣṇavṛṣṭivātādhvavyādhibandhanatāḍanaiḥ|

saukumāryaṃ na kartavyamanyathā vardhate vyathā||16||



sukumārataracittasya hi duḥkhamatitarāṃ bādhakaṃ bhavati, duḥkhe'pi dṛḍhacittasya viparyayaḥ||



nanu dṛḍhīkaraṇe'pi cittasya duḥkhamasahyameveti| atrāha-

kecitsvaśoṇitaṃ dṛṣṭvā vikramante viśeṣataḥ|

paraśoṇitamapyeke dṛṣṭvā mūrcchāṃ vrajanti yat||17||



taccittasya dṛḍhatvena kātaratvena cāgatam|

duḥkhaduryodhanastasmādbhavedabhibhavedvayathām||18||



na khalu dṛḍhacittasya kiṃcidaśakyaṃ nāma| tathāhi-kecidvīrapuruṣāḥ saṃgrāmabhūmau svaśoṇitamapi paśyanto'dhikataraṃ śauryamābhajante| kecitpunaḥ kātaracittasaṃtatayaḥ pararudhiradarśanādapi maraṇāntikaṃ duḥkhamanubhavanti| etadubhayamapi cittasya itaretarābhyāsaviparyayāt iti matvā duḥkhaduryodhano nādhigamyo bhavet, duḥkhairapyakampyatvāt| tato'bhibhaved vyathām, na punastayāmibhūyate||



itthamapyabhibhaved vyathāmityāha-

duḥkhe'pi naiva cittasya prasādaṃ kṣobhayed budhaḥ|

saṃgrāmo hi saha kleśairyuddhe ca sulabhā vyathā||19||



prasādaṃ pūrvoktaṃ nāvasādayedvicakṣaṇaḥ| kutaḥ ? yasmāt kleśaśatrubhiḥ saha saṃgrāmo'yamārabdhaḥ| saṃgrāme ca vyathā nāma na bhavediti durlabham, vyathā tu sulamaiva||



nanu tathāpi duṣkaramidamatīva dṛśyata iti| atrāha-

urasārātighātān ye praticchanto jayantyarīn|

te te vijayinaḥ śūrāḥ śeṣāstu mṛtamārakāḥ||20||



abhimukhamabhibhavantaḥ śatrum| tatprahārān vakṣaḥsthalena pratīcchanto ye jayanti samare ripūn, te te śūrapuruṣāḥ pararipuvijayādiha labdhavijayāḥ praśasyante| ye punaranye chalaprahārādibhirabhibhavanti śatrum, te ca akiṃcitkaratayā mṛtamārakā jugupsanīyā eva śūraiḥ||



ito'pi guṇadarśanādduḥkhamadhivāsayitavyamityāha-

guṇo'paraśca duḥkhasya yatsaṃvegānmadacyutiḥ|

saṃsāriṣu ca kāruṇyaṃ pāpadbhītirjine spṛhā||21||



ayamaparaḥ śubhaheturguṇo duḥkhasyāsya saṃbodhimārgānukūlaḥ, yadduḥkhasya samāveśe manasi saṃvega upajāyate| tasmācca yauvanadhanādikṛtasya madasya cyutirbhaṅgo jāyate, saṃsāriṣu ca saṃsāraduḥkhapīḍitesu karuṇācittam, pāpasya phalamidamiti matvā pāpād bhayamakaraṇacittaṃ ca, buddhe ca bhagavati spṛhā bhaktiḥ śraddhā cittaprasādaśca| bhagavāneva hi duḥkhakṣayagāminaṃ mārgamupadiṣṭavāniti||



parapratyayotpannaduḥkhādhivāsanāya parāmṛśannāha-

pittādiṣu na me kopo mahāduḥkhakareṣvapi|

sacetaneṣu kiṃ kopaḥ te'pi pratyayakopitāḥ||22||



pittādidoṣatrayātmakameva śarīram| te ca tathāvidhāhāravihāravaiguṇyād viṣamāvasthāṃ prāptā vyādhīn janayantaḥ sarvaduḥkhahetavo bhavanti| tathāpi na teṣu mama kopaḥ, acetanatvāt| na te saṃcintya duḥkhadāyakāḥ, kiṃ tarhi svakāraṇasāmagrībalena prakopamupāgatāḥ| yadyevam, sacetaneṣu kiṃ kopaḥ ? kiṃ na syāditi cet, te'pi pūrvakarmāparādhāt svakāraṇasāmagrīprakopitā duḥkhadāyakā bhavanti| iti pittādivat teṣvapi na yujyate mama krodhaḥ||



ubhayatrāpi samānaṃ kāraṇādhīnatvamityupadarśayannāha-

aniṣyamāṇamapyetacchūlamutpadyate yathā|

aniṣyamāṇo'pi balātkrodha utpadyate tathā||23||



svapratyayopajanitasāmarthyebhyaḥ pittādibhyo'nabhipretamapi śūlamavaśyamutpadyate yathā, tathā svahetumapariṇāmādhigataśaktibhyo daurmanasyādibhyaḥ krodha utpadyate, iti sādhāraṇamanayorhetupratyayādhīnatvam||



atha syāt-uktamatra sacetanāḥ saṃcintya tathāvidhāniṣṭakāriṇaḥ, na tu punaritare tathetyāha-

kupyāmīti na saṃcintya kupyati svecchayā janaḥ|

utpatsya ityabhipretya krodha utpadyate na ca||24||



tatpratyayasāmagrīmantareṇa kupyāmītyevaṃ buddhipūrvakaṃ saṃcintya na janaḥ svairaṃ prakupyati| krodho'pi utpatsya ityabhisaṃghāya svātantryeṇa naivotpadyate||



tasmādidamevātra pramāṇasiddhamityāha-

ye kecidaparādhāśca pāpāni vividhāni ca|

sarva tatpratyayabalāt svatantraṃ tu na vidyate||25||



idaṃpratyayatāmātrasamupasthitasvabhāvaṃ sarvamidam| na tu svātantryapravṛttaṃ kiṃcidapi vidyate||



na ca pratyayasāmagryā janayāmīti cetanā|

na cāpi janitasyāsti janito'smīti cetanā||26||



pratyayasāmagryapi na svakāryaṃ janayantī saṃcintya janayati| sā hi svahetupariṇāmopanidhidharmatayā tathāvidhaṃ kāryaṃ janayati na tu saṃcintya| na cāpi janitasya kāryasyāpi anayā sāmagryā janito'smīti cetanā manasikāro'sti| tasmānnirvyāpāratayā sarvadharmāṇām, asmin sati idaṃ bhavati, asyotpādādidamutpadyate, iti idaṃpratyayatāmātramidaṃ jagat, nātra kaścitsvatantraḥ saṃbhavati| hetupratyayādhīnatvātsarvadharmāṇām||



syādetat-astyeva svatantraṃ yathā sāṃkhyānāṃ pradhānamātmā ca, naiyāyikānāmākāśādayaḥ| tat kimucyate na kiṃcitsvatantramiha vidyate, ityāśaṅkayāha-



yatpradhānaṃ kilāmīṣṭaṃ yattadātmeti kalpitam|

tadeva hi bhavābhīti na saṃcintyopajāyate||27||



yattadbhavatāṃ sattvarajastamasāṃ sāmyāvasthā prakṛtiḥ pradhānamityabhimatam| kileti pramāṇāsaṃgatametadityaruciṃ prakāśayati| yadapi tadvastu kiṃcidātmeti kalpitamadhyavasitaṃ pramāṇāsaṃgatameva| āha-yasmāttadeva svayameva tadaparakāraṇābhāvād bhavāmi samutpadya iti nābhisaṃdhāya jāyate|



kutaḥ ? yasmāt-

anutpannaṃ hi tannāsti ka icchedbhavituṃ tadā|



tat pradhānādi prāgasadeva| asataśca vandhyāsutāderiva kā bhavitumutpattumicchā bhavet ? atha nāsadutpadyate kiṃcit, kevalamavyaktāvasthāto vyaktāvasthāyāṃ pariṇāmamātram| yadyevam, pariṇāmo'pi kathamasannutpaṃdyate vyaktāvasthā vā ? pariṇāmasya vyaktāvasthāyāśca tatsvabhāvatve tasyāpyutpattiprasaṅgaḥ| vyatireke saṃbandhābhāvaḥ| saṃbandhakalpanāyāṃ ca anavasthā| parato vistareṇa pradhānaṃ nirākariṣyate [9. 127-138]||



syādetat-ātmanyayamadoṣa eva| na hi tasya vayamutpādamicchāmaḥ| sarvadā nityasvabhāvatayā anutpanna evāsau| bhavatu nāma evam| tathāpi sarvathā kharaviṣāṇakalpa evāsau, utpādābhāvāt| tato nātrāpi nivartate-



anutpannaṃ hi tannāsti ka icchedbhavituṃ tadā| iti|



bhāve'pi vā nāsya svātmanyapi prabhutvamasti| prakṛtyupanāmitameva hi viṣayamapi sa bhuṅkte| tadā ca viṣayopabhogātprāk tadbhoktṛtvamasya nāsīt, paścādutpannaṃ ca tatsvabhāvameva| anyathā tasya bhoktṛtvāyogāt| tadutpāde ca tasyāpyutpāda iti kathaṃ nātmana utpāda iṣyata iti| tadevaṃ punaḥ



anutpannaṃ hi tannāsti ka icchedbhavituṃ tadā|

aparamapi dūṣaṇamatrāha-

viṣayavyāpṛtatvācca niroddhumapi nehate||28||



yadyapyasau pradhānopahitaviṣayopabhogāya pravartata itīṣyate, tadā prāgapravṛttasya paścātpravṛttirna yujyate| atha kathaṃcit pravartate, tadāpi viṣaye vyāpṛtasya nivṛttirna syāt| etadevāha-niroddhumapi nehate| viṣayopabhogānnivartitumapi notsahate, tadā tasya tatsvabhāvatvāt, tasya ca nityatayā anivṛtteḥ| nivṛttau vā anityatvaprasaṅgāt| naiyāyikādīnāmātmano vyapadeśo nityatvāt||



viśeṣamapi tasyāha-

nityo hyacetanaścātmā vyomavat sphuṭamakriyaḥ|



acaitanyaṃ sāṃkhyādiha viśeṣaḥ| anyatra samānatā| tatra nityaḥ pūrvāparakālayorekasvabhāvaḥ| acetanaśca acitsvabhāvaḥ| jaḍa ityarthaḥ| anyacaitanyayogāccetayate| vyomavad vyāpī| ata eva sphuṭaṃ vyaktamakriyaḥ| yadāha-



anye punarihātmānamicchādīnāṃ samāśrayam|

svato'cidrūpamicchanti nityaṃ sarvagataṃ tathā||



śubhāśubhānāṃ kartāraṃ karmaṇāṃ tatphalasya ca|

bhoktāraṃ cetanāyogāccetanaṃ na svarūpataḥ||

tathā ca akiṃcitkara evāsau, kvacidapi kārye'nupayogāt| atha aparasahakāripratyayasaṃnidhau niṣkriyasyāpi tasya kriyā[bhyu]pagamyate| yaduktam-



jñānayatnādisaṃbandhaḥ kartṛtvaṃ tasya bhaṇyate|iti|

atrāha-

pratyayāntarasaṅge'pi nirvikārasya kā kriyā||29||



jñānayatnādipratyayāntarasaṃparke'pi nityatvānnirvikārasya pūrvasvabhāvādapracyutasyātmanaḥ kā kriyā ? naiva kriyā yujyate||



yaḥ pūrvavat kriyākāle kriyāyāstena kiṃ kṛtam|

tasya kriyeti saṃbandhe katarattannibandhanam||30||



yathā pūrvamakriyākāle tathākriyākāle'pi yaḥ, tena kārakasvabhāvavikalena kriyāyāḥ kiṃ kṛtam, yena pratyayāntarasaṅge tasya kriyā vyavasthāpyeta ? api ca| ubhayasaṃbandhābhāvāt tasya ātmanaḥ kriyeyamiti saṃbandhe katarattadanyanimittam ? naivāsti kiṃcit||



vistareṇa cātmano nirākariṣyamāṇatvāt [9. 58-60] īśvarasya ca [9.119-126], na svatantraḥ kaścidapi saṃbhavati| evamasvātantryaṃ sarvatra prasādhyopasaṃharannāha-



evaṃ paravaśaṃ sarvaṃ yadvaśaṃ so'pi cāvaśaḥ|

nirmāṇavadaceṣṭeṣu bhāveṣvevaṃ kka kupyate||31||



evamuktanayena paravaśaṃ parāyattaṃ sarvaṃ bāhyādhyātmikaṃ vastujātam| tarhi yadvaśe tadaparāyattaṃ bhaviṣyatīti cet, na| yadvaśaṃ so'pi cāvaśaḥ svahetuparatantraḥ| evaṃ sa heturapi svahetorityanādisaṃsāraparaṃparāyāṃ na svavaśitā kvacidapi saṃbhavati| ato nirvyāpārāḥ sarvadharmā iti| kaḥ kasmai druhyati paramārthataḥ yenāparādhini kvacit kasyacidaparādhe tasya dveṣo yuktaḥ | idamevāha-nirmāṇavat sarvavyāpārakalpanāvigamāt, aceṣṭeṣu nirīheṣu sarvadharmeṣu evaṃ satsu kva kupyatām ? na yujyate prekṣāvatāṃ kvacidapi kopa iti bhāvaḥ||



syādetat-evaṃ hi ekaṃ samarthayato dvitīyaṃ vighaṭate ityāśaṅkayannāha-

vāraṇāpi na yuktaivaṃ kaḥ kiṃ vārayatīti cet|



samarthitanyāyenaiva vāraṇāpi nivartanamapi nirmāṇavadaceṣṭeṣu bhāveṣu na yuktā| evamiti yadā kiṃcidapi svatantraṃ na dṛśyate, sarvaṃ pratyayasāmagrīṃ pratītya jāyate, tadā vāraṇāpi na yuktā| yadi vā-maivam, tathāpi kathaṃ na yuktā ? ko vārayati, svatantraḥ kartā kiṃ niṣedhyaṃ svatantrapravṛttaṃ vārayatīti cet| ayamabhiprāyaḥ-na hi samāne'pi nyāye kvacit pravṛttiḥ sāmānyatvāt| tasmādyuktametat-vāraṇā na yukteti||



yadyevaṃ manyase, atrottaramāha-

yuktā pratītyatā yasmādduḥkhasyoparatirmatā||32||



yuktā vāraṇā, kutaḥ ? pratītyatā, idaṃ pratītyedamutpadyate iti pratītyasamutpannatā yasmādasti nirvyāpāreṣvapi bhāveṣu, ato vāraṇā yuktā, tato na vyāghātaḥ| etaduktaṃ bhavati-yadyapi nirvyāpārāḥ sarvadharmāḥ, tathāpi pratītyasamutpādavaśāt pāratantryamupadarśitam- evaṃ paravaśaṃ sarvam [6. 31] ityādivacanāt| tataḥ avidyādipratyayabalāduttarottaraḥ kāryapravāhaḥ saṃskārādirūpaḥ pravartate, pūrvapūrvanivṛttau nivartate| etacca uttaratra [9. 75] vistareṇa pratipādayiṣyate| tasmādduḥkhasya saṃsārasya uparatirnivṛttirabhimatā| ato dveṣādipāpapravṛttivāraṇā saṃgacchate| tāṃ pratītya tathāvidhamabhyudayaniḥśreyasasvabhāvaṃ phalamutpadyate||



sāṃprataṃ prakṛtameva yojayannāha-

tasmādamitraṃ mitraṃ vā dṛṣṭvāpyanyāyakāriṇam|

īdṛśāḥ pratyayā asyetyevaṃ matvā sukhī bhavet||33||



yasmāt pratītyajaṃ sarvam, tasmādamitretaraṃ [amitramitaraṃ ca ] apakāriṇaṃ pratītya sukhamevālambanīyam| kutaḥ ? īdṛśā apakārakaraṇaśīlahetavaḥ asya amitrasya itarasya vā, iti evaṃ niścitya sukhī bhavet, daurmanasyaṃ na kurvīta||



kiṃ ca| duḥkhopanipātena cittakṣobhe'pi na duḥkhasya nivṛttirastītyupadarśayannāha-

yadi tu svecchayā siddhiḥ sarveṣāmeva dehinām|

na bhavetkasyacidduḥkhaṃ na duḥkhaṃ kaścidicchati||34||



nahi ātmecchāmātreṇa anavimataṃ nivartate, abhimataṃ copatiṣṭhate hetumantareṇa| tathātve sa ti na bhavet kasyacit sattvasya duḥkham| kimiti ? na duḥkhamātmanaḥ kaścidicchati| svasukhābhilāṣiṇa eva hi sarvasattvāḥ||



duḥkhādhivāsanākṣāntimabhidhāya idānīṃ parāpakāramarṣaṇakṣāntimupadarśayannāha-

pramādādātmanātmānaṃ bādhante kaṇṭakādibhiḥ|

bhaktacchedādibhiḥ kopāddurāpastyādilipsayā||35||



udbandhanaprapātaiśca viṣāpathyādibhakṣaṇaiḥ|

nighnanti kecidātmānamapuṇyācaraṇena ca||36||



yadaivaṃ kleśavaśyavād ghrantyātmānamapi priyam|

tadaiṣāṃ parakāyeṣu parihāraḥ kathaṃ bhavet||37||



asamīkṣitakāritā pramādaḥ| svayameva svakāyaṃ kaṇṭakakhāṇukaṭhallapāṣāṇaśarkarādibhirdurgamārgeṣu karmapravṛttāḥ kaṇṭakāstaraṇaśayanādibhirvā bādhante| tathā bhojanapānaparihārādibhiḥ| kimiti ? kopāt agamyaparadāradhanādi labdhumicchayā vā||



udbandhanamūrdhvalambanam| prapātaḥ prapatanaṃ parvatādeḥ| jalāgnipraveśādibhiḥ, viṣāpathyādibhakṣaṇaiḥ, atyāhārātipānādibhiḥ, nighnanti mārayanti kecinmohapuruṣā ātmānaṃ svakāyam| paravadhādibhiḥ, apuṇyācaraṇena ca| paravadhābhiprāyāḥ saṃgrāmādiṣvakuśalakriyayā ca||



yadaivamuktakrameṇa kleśavaśyatvāt kleśaparatantratvāt ete sattvā ātmānamapi priyaṃ vallabhaṃ ghnanti pīḍayanti, tadā eṣāṃ parakāyeṣu paraśarīreṣu apakāraviratiḥ kathaṃ syāt ?



itthaṃ ca kṛpāpātramevaite, na dveṣasthānamityāha-

kleśonmattīkṛteṣveṣu pravṛtteṣvātmaghātane|

na kevalaṃ dayā nāsti krodha utpadyate katham||38||



piśācairiva grasteṣu eṣu apakārakāriṣu uktanayena pravṛtteṣu ātmaghātane parāpakāradvāreṇa vā na kevalaṃ na tāvat kṛpā nāsti, audāsīnyamapi sādhūnāṃ tatrāyuktam| dveṣa utpadyate kathaṃ kṛpāsthāneṣviti viparyayo mahān||



evamapi svacittaṃ nivārayedityāha-

yadi svabhāvo bālānāṃ paropadravakāritā|

teṣu kopo na yukto me yathāgnau dahanātmake||39||



tathā hi vikalpadvayamatra| bālānāṃ pṛthagjanānāṃ yadi etādṛśa eva svabhāvaḥ paropadravakāritā nāma, tadā na khalu svabhāvāḥ paryanuyogamarhanti-kimiti parāpakāraṃ kurvanti te ? iti paribhāvya teṣu dveṣo na yukto me| tadyathā agnau dahanasvabhāve dāhakaraṇāt| anyathā tadabhāve tatsvabhāvatāhāniprasaṅgāt||



dvitīyaṃ vikalpamadhikṛtyāha-

atha doṣo'yamāgantuḥ sattvāḥ prakṛtipeśalāḥ|

tathāpyayuktastatkopaḥ kaṭudhūme yathāmbare||40||



atha doṣo'yamāgantuḥ anya eva na tatsvabhāvabhūtaḥ| sattvāḥ punaḥ prakṛtiprabhāsvaracittasaṃtānatayā peśalā akuṭilasvabhāvāḥ| doṣā hi duṣṭasvabhāvāḥ, na tatsvabhāvāḥ sattvāḥ| tathāpi ayuktasteṣu sattveṣu peśalasvabhāveṣu kopaḥ| kasminniva ? kaṭudhūmo yathā iva ambare| na hi kaṭutā nāma nirmalasyākāśasya svabhāvaḥ, api tu dhūmasya| ataśca taddoṣeṇa dhūma eva doṣo yujyate, nākāśe prakṛtipariśuddhe | tasmāddoṣeṣveva kopo yujyate na sattveṣu|



api ca| yadeva hi pradhānaṃ duḥkhakāraṇam, tatra yukto bhavet kopo nāpradhāne ityāha-

mukhyaṃ daṇḍādikaṃ hitvā prerake yadi kupyate|

dveṣeṇa preritaḥ so'pi dveṣe dveṣo'stu me varam||41||



kāye hi daṇḍaprahārādabhāvitacittasya duḥkhaṃ samutpadyate| tato daṇḍa eva mukhyaṃ duḥkhakāraṇamiti tatraiva kopo yuktaḥ| atha parapreritasya daṇḍasya ko doṣaḥ ? tena preraka eva dveṣyo bhavati| evaṃ tarhi dveṣeṇa so'pi daṇḍaprerakaḥ prerita iti dveṣe dveṣo mama yukto na prerake||



api ca| nādattaṃ kiṃcidupabhujyate sukhaṃ vā duḥkhaṃ vā| iti vicintya parāpakāre'pi na tatra cittaṃ pradūṣayedityāha-

mayāpi pūrvaṃ sattvānāmīdṛśyeva vyathā kṛtā|

tasmānme yuktamevaitatsattvopadravakāriṇaḥ||42||



pūrvaṃ janmāntare mayāpi sattvānāmevaṃvidhaiva pīḍā kṛtā yasmāt, ṛṇapariśodhananyāyena ucitameva mamaitat parāpakārakāriṇaḥ| tatkarmaphalaparipākāditi bhāvaḥ||



yadyasya kāraṇaṃ tasmādetadutpadyate nānyasmāditi parāmṛśya parāpakāraṃ marṣayedityupadaśaryannāha-

tacchasraṃ mama kāyaśca dvayaṃ duḥkhasya kāraṇam|

tena śasraṃ mayā kāyo gṛhītaḥ kutra kupyate||43||



avikalakāraṇasāmagrī hi sarvakāryasya kāraṇamiti pramāṇapariniścitam| sā cātra tathāvidhā vidyate| tathāhi tasyāpakāriṇaḥ śastraṃ khaṅgādi mama kāyaśca, etaddvayaṃ sāmagrīrūpaṃ duḥkhasya kāraṇam| iti samarthakāraṇasadbhāve'pi kāryaṃ kathaṃ notpadyeta ? anyathā tattasya kāraṇameva na syāt| tato'nyadapi, tat utpādayogaḥ ? [=tatsāmagrīto'nyadapi kāraṇaṃ syāt, tataḥ..........] tasmādyādi kāraṇopanāyake kupyate, tadā svātmanyapi kopo yuktaḥ| yataḥ svayamapi duḥkhakāraṇaṃ vahatyupanayati ca bhavān| ātmanyakope paratrāpi na yukta iti bhāvaḥ||



prakārāntareṇoktamevārthaṃ spaṣṭayannāha-

gaṇḍo'yaṃ pratimākāro gṛhīto ghaṭṭanāsahaḥ|

tṛṣṇāndhena mayā tatra vyathāyāṃ kutra kupyate||44||



śarīrākṛtirayaṃ pakvagaṇḍo mayā gṛhītaḥ| sarvaduḥkhahetutvāt sarvopamardasahaḥ| ākoṭanatāḍanādibhirapyabhedyatvāt| duḥkhaparihārāya sukhaprāptaye ca yā tṛṣṇā abhilāṣaḥ, tadandhena pihitaprajñālocanena tasyāṃ vyathāyāṃ satyāṃ kutra kupyate ? na hi gaṇḍasya kuḍyādisaṃparkaje duḥkhe kvacidvivekataḥ kopo yuktaḥ||



api ca | yaḥ kāryeṇānarthī, tena tatkāraṇameva parihartavyaṃ bhavet| ahaṃ tu viparyastamatiriti vimarśamupadarśayannāha-

duḥkhaṃ necchāmi duḥkhasya hetumicchāmi bāliśaḥ|

svāparādhāgate duḥkhe kasmādanyatra kupyate||45||



duḥkhaṃ daṇḍādyabhighātajaṃ necchāmi| tasya punaḥ kāraṇaṃ śarīraṃ pratyapakāriṇaṃ cecchāmi| bāliśa iti bāladharmo viparyāsaḥ| tasmātkāraṇāt svakāye yadduḥkhaṃ tat svāparādhāgatameva| iti kasmādanyatra tatsahakārimātre kupyate ?



ātmavadhāya svayaṃ saṃskṛtaśastrasyaiva anyatra mama kopo na yukta ityāha-

asipatravanaṃ yadvadyathā nārakapakṣiṇaḥ|

matkarmajanitā eva tathedaṃ kutra kupyate||46||



asipatravanaṃ narakasamudbhavam| asaya eva patrāṇyasyeti kṛtvā| asigrahaṇaṃ prādhānyāt| anyadapi śastraṃ nārakaduḥkhaheturyantraṃ ca| vane tasminnivāsino gṛdhrolūkavāyasādayaḥ pakṣiṇo yathā matkarmajanitā eva duḥkhahetavo bhavanti| nānyadatra duḥkhakāraṇamasti| tathā idamapi paraśastrādikaṃ duḥkhaheturmatkarmajanitameva, iti kutra kupyate ?



itthamapi viparyāsa evāyamityupadarśayitumāha-

matkarmacoditā eva jātā mayyapakāriṇaḥ|

yena yāsyanti narakānmayaivāmī hatā nanu||47||



yena madīyena karmaṇā coditāḥ preritā eva mayi pūrvakṛtāpakāre apakāriṇo jātāḥ santo narakān yāsyanti, tena mayaivāmī apakāriṇo hatā nanu| svacittaṃ saṃbodhayati-na amībhirahaṃ hataḥ| ayamabhiprāyaḥ-yadi nākariṣyamahamīdṛśaṃ karma, tadā ete'pi nāpakāriṇo'bhaviṣyanniti matkṛtenaiva karmaṇā apakāriṇo bhavanti||



upakāriṣveva mohādapakāribuddhirmameti kārikādvayena darśayannāha-

etānāśritya me pāpaṃ kṣīyate kṣamato bahu|

māmāśritya tu yāntyete narakān dīrghavedanān||48||



ahamevāpakāryeṣāṃ mamaite copakāriṇaḥ|

kasmādviparyayaṃ kṛtvā khalacetaḥ prakupyasi||49||



etānapakāriṇa āśritya nimittīkṛtya mama pāpaṃ pūrvajanmakṛtaparāpakārajanitaṃ kṣīyate tadduḥkhānubhavanavipākena kṣayaṃ yāti| kṣamataḥ kṣāntimālambamānasya| bahu anekaparyāyeṇa kṛtam| māmāśritya matkarmacoditāḥ evamapyapakāraṃ kṛtvā punarete narakān tīvravedanān duḥsahaduḥkhānubhavān yānti| ata uktakrameṇa ahameva apakārī eṣāmityādi subodham||



nanu yadyapakārī bhavān, tarhi bhavata eva narakagamanamucitam, na tveṣāmityāha-

bhavenmamāśayaguṇo na yāmi narakān yadi|

eṣāmatra kimāyātaṃ yadyātmā rakṣito mayā||50||



yā pratyapakāranivṛttiniṣṭhā etanmamāśayamāhātmyaṃ narakagatinivṛttihetuḥ| narakān na yāmi tadātmāśayamāhātmyabalena| na tu punareṣāṃ durāśayatayā narakeṣu mamāpatanamiti bhāvaḥ| etadevāha-eṣāmityādinā| ayamatra samudāyārthaḥ-yadyahamapakārī sannapi kenacidupāyakauśalena narakān na yāmi, tadaiṣāmu[ma ?]pakāriṇāṃ kimāyātam, kimapakṣīyate ? kā kṣatirityarthaḥ| mayā tāvadekena rakṣitā na bhavantāmanye, rakṣita ātmā ca bhavet| na caitāvatā kiṃcideṣāṃ nyūnādhikaṃ guṇadoṣeṣu syāt||



nanu yadi nāma evam, tathāpi bhavato'pi na yuktamātmarakṣaṇamupakārikṛtajñatayā ityāśaṅkayāha-

atha pratyapakārī syāṃ tathāpyete na rakṣitāḥ|

hīyate cāpi me caryā tasmānnaṣṭāstapasvinaḥ||51||



yadi daṇḍādighātaṃ kurvatsu pratyapakārī bhaveyam, tathāpi ete rakṣitā na bhavanti| na kaścideṣāṃ pratīkāro narakagamanādiṣu kṛtaḥ syāt | pratyuta tāḍitenāpi mayā na pratitāḍitavyam| tathā sarvasattveṣu na maitracittaṃ mayā niści[kṣepta ?]tavyam| antaśo na dagdhasthūṇāyāmapi pratighacittamutpādayitavyam| ityāderbodhisattvacaryāyā mama hānireva syāt| tasmādetarhi pratīkāropāyābhāvāttapasvino varākā rakśitumaśakyatvānnaṣṭā durgatipatitā eva| ityupekṣyante tāvadidānīm| paścāttadupāyamadhigamya tatkariṣyāmi yathaiṣāṃ duḥkhamaṇumātrakamapi na syāt||



tadevaṃ parāpakāramarṣaṇakṣāntiṃ pratipādya adhunā dharmanidhyānakṣāntimupadarśayitumāha-

mano hantumamūrtatvānna śakyaṃ kenacitkvacit|

śarīrābhiniveśāttu cittaṃ duḥkhena bādhyate||52||



dvividhaṃ duḥkhamavicārato bādhakamupajāyate kāyikaṃ mānasikaṃ ceti| tatra manasi na kaściddaṇḍādikaṃ dātuṃ śaktaḥ, amūrtatvānmanasaḥ| iti tadudbhavaṃ duḥkhaṃ paramārthato na saṃbhavati| kalpanākṛtaṃ tu daurmanasyādikaṃ vidyate| etadeva darśayati śarīretyādinā| mamedaṃ śarīramiti vikalpābhyāsavāsanāvaśāt kāyaduḥkhena cittaṃ vihanyate||



tatrāpi pratiniyatameva duḥkhakāraṇamityāha-

nyakkāraḥ paruṣaṃ vākyamayaśaścetyayaṃ gaṇaḥ|

kāyaṃ na bādhate tena cetaḥ kasmātprakupyasi||53||



nyakkārādigaṇaḥ samūhaḥ kāyasya duḥkhaheturna bhavati| na hi kāyasyāyaṃ kaṃcidupaghātaṃ karotīti yena, tena cetaḥ kasmāddhetoḥ prakupyasi ?



athāpi syāt-yadi nāma nyakkārādayaḥ kāyasya bādhakā na bhavanti, tathāpi tacchrutvā mayi lokānāmaprasannaṃ cittamutpadyate, iti mayā neṣyate ityāśaṅkayāha-

mayyaprasādo yo'nyeṣāṃ sa māṃ kiṃ bhakṣayiṣyati|

iha janmāntare vāpi yenāsau me'nabhīpsitaḥ||54||



bhavatu nāma evam, tathāpi vicāraṇīyameva| mayi nyakkārādiśravaṇād yo'yamaprasādo janānām, sa kiṃ māṃ bhakṣayiṣyati ihaloke paraloka vā, yenāsau lokāprasādo mamāpriyaḥ, iti vicārya na kartavyo'trābhiniveśaḥ||



asti vā atrābhiniveśakāraṇaṃ lābhavighāto nāmetyāha-

lābhāntarāyakāritvād yadyasau me'nabhīpsitaḥ|

naṅkṣyatīhaiva me lābhaḥ pāpaṃ tu sthāsyati dhruvam||55||



tathāhi nyakkārādiśravaṇādaprasādo lokānām, tasmācca lābhopanāmanavaimukhyam| tato'sau nyakkārādigaṇo mamāniṣṭa iti cet, tadayuktam| naṅkṣyati vinaśvaradharmatayā apagamiṣyati| ihaiva pratiniyataireva dinairmama lābhaḥ| na tu paralokānubandhī bhaviṣyati| tannimittaṃ nyakkārādikartṛṣu krudhyato yatpāpaṃ tadeva paraṃ sthāsyati paralokānubandhi bhaviṣyati| dhruvamiti aparimukte tatphale tasyāvināśāt||



idamapi cātrālocanīyam-

varamadyaiva me mṛtyurna mithyājīvitaṃ ciram|

yasmācciramapi sthitvā mṛtyuduḥkhaṃ tadeva me||56||



idameva varaṃ śreṣṭhaṃ yallābhābhāvādasminnevāhani me maraṇamastu, na tu punaḥ parāpakāradvāreṇa lābhapratilambhānmithyājīvitaṃ ciraṃ dīrghakālam| kutaḥ ? yasmādvahutarakālamapi jīvitvā maraṇāntaṃ hi jīvitam ityavaśyaṃbhāvino mṛtyorduḥkhaṃ tadeva mama| yatpaścādvarṣaśatātyaye bhaviṣyati, tadevedānīṃ mama mriyamāṇasya iti cirajīviteṣvaviśeṣaḥ||



ito'pyaviśeṣa eveti ślokadvayena darśayannāha-

svapne varṣaśataṃ saukhyaṃ bhuktvā yaśca vibudhyate|

muhūrtamaparo yaśca sukhī bhūtvā vibudhyate||57||



nanu (nūnaṃ ?) nivartate saukhyaṃ dvayorapi vibuddhayoḥ|

saivopamā mṛtyukāle cirajīvyalpajīvinoḥ||58||



yathā kaścitsvapnopalabdhaṃ varṣaśataṃ sukhamupabhujya vibudhyate, anyaḥ punaḥ kṣaṇamātram| sa tāvanmātreṇa sukhinamātmānaṃ manyate| anayordvayorapi svapnopalabdhopabhuktasukhayoḥ prativibuddhayoḥ satoḥ tadupalabdhaṃ vinaṣṭaṃ sukhaṃ na nivartate, jāgradavasthāyāṃ nānuvartate, smaraṇamātrāvaśeṣatvāt| saivopamā svapnopalabdhasukhayoriva puruṣayormṛtyukāle maraṇasamaye cirajīvino'lpajīvinaśca| nanu nivartate saukhyamiti svārthe'pyaṇ| ityalaṃ mithyājīvitena||



asmādapi lābhālābhayorna kaścidviśeṣa ityupadarśayannāha-

labdhvāpi ca bahūṃllābhān ciraṃ bhuktvā sukhānyapi|

riktahastaśca nagraśca yāsyāmi muṣito yathā||59||



pracurataralābhān labdhvāpi samāsādya, cirakālamupabhujya sukhānyapi, punarmṛtyumadhigamya riktahastaśca tucchahastaḥ| na tasmāllābhādīṣadapi pātheyaṃ gṛhītam| nāpi sukhāt kiṃcit pariśiṣṭamavasthitam| kaṭisūtrakamātramapi na pariśeṣitamiti nagnaśca cauraiḥ parimuṣita iva asmāllokātparaṃ lokaṃ yāsyāmi||



syādetat-astyeva viśeṣo lābhasya cīvarādīnāmanupaghātādāyuḥsaṃskārāṇāmupastambhācciratarakālaṃ jīvitaṃ syāt | tataśca pūrvakṛtapāpasya vidūṣaṇāsamudācārādinā parikṣayaṃ śikṣāsaṃvaraparirakṣaṇena bodhicittasevanādinā ca kuśalapakṣasya ca vṛddhiṃ kuryām| yaduktam-



yāvacciraṃ jīvati dharmacārī

tāvatprasūte kuśalapravāham||iti||



ato lābhāntarāyakāriṇi yukta eva pradveṣa ityāśaṅkayannāha-

pāpakṣayaṃ ca puṇyaṃ ca lābhājjīvan karomi cet|



lābhāduktakrameṇa jīvan dhriyamāṇaḥ pāpakṣayaṃ ca puṇyaṃ ca karomītyādi manyase| nanu etaditaḥ samadhikaṃ doṣamapaśyatā abhidhīyata ityāha-

puṇyakṣayaśca pāpaṃ ca lābhārthaṃ krudhyato nanu||60||



lābhārthaṃ lābhanimittaṃ tadantarāyakāriṇi dveṣaṃ kurvataḥ sukṛtakṣaya evopajāyate| yaduktam-sarvametatsucaritam [6.1] ityādinā| ayaṃ tu viśeṣaḥ-akṣāntisamudbhavasya pāpasya rāśirabhivardhate||



athāpi syāt-yathākathaṃcit tāvaccirakālaṃ lābhājjīvitaṃ syāt| tāvataiva naḥ prayojanamityāha-

yadarthameva jīvāmi tadeva yadi naśyati|

kiṃ tena jīvitenāpi kevalāśubhakāriṇā||61||



na khalu bodhisattvasya itarasattvavajjīvitaṃ niṣprayojanamevābhilaṣitam, kiṃ tarhi saṃbhārābhisaṃvardhanārthaṃ pāpakṣayārthaṃ ca| tad yadi sukṛtakṣayanimittameva tat syāt, tadā kiṃ tena tādṛśena jīvitenāpi kevalāśubhakarmakaraṇaśīlena ? ninditameva taditi bhāvaḥ||



syādetat-na lābhāntarāyakāritayā mamāvarṇavādini pratighacittamutpadyate, kiṃ tu guṇapracchādanādikarmaṇā, duḥkhahetutvādityāha-

avarṇavādini dveṣaḥ sattvānnāśayatīti cet|

parāyaśaskare'pyevaṃ kopaste kiṃ na jāyate||62||



ayaśobhidhāyini yo'yaṃ bhavato vidveṣaḥ, so'varṇavādī doṣāviṣkaraṇādguṇapracchādanācca tvāṃ nāśayati| iti matvā cedyadi tannimittakaḥ| athavā| sattvān lokānnāśayati| avarṇavādena mayi nigrāhayati| svayamaprasannacittasteṣāmapi cittamaprasādayatītyarthaḥ| iti avarṇavādini dveṣaścet, ucyate| tadā yo'pi pareṣāmanyasattvānāmayaśaḥ prakāśayati, tatrāpi kopaste kiṃ na jāyate ? so'pi ca avarṇavādī sattvānnāśayati| tadasminnapi yuktarūpa eva kopaḥ||



atrottaramāśaṅkayannāha-

parāyattāprasādatvādaprasādiṣu te kṣamā|



pareṣu anyeṣu sattveṣu āyatta āśrito'prasādo'sya| anyasattvān viṣayīkṛtya samutpanna iti| tasya bhāvastattvaṃ tasmāt| parāśritāprasādattvādaprasādiṣu aprasannacitteṣu avarṇavādiṣu tava kṣamā kṣāntirūtpadyate| ātmacittameva pṛcchati| atrāha-

kleśotpādaparāyatte kṣamā nāvarṇavādini||63||



yadi yaḥ parāyattāprasādaḥ tatra kṣamā bhavato bhavati, tadā svasminnavarṇavādini kiṃ na kṣamā ? kiṃrūpe ? kleśotpādanaparāyatte kleśānāmutpādaparatantre| parāyattāprasādatvaṃ kṣamāhetuḥ tulyamubhayatrāpi ityarthaḥ||



pratimādyupaghātakāriṣu śraddhāvaśādapi pratighacittaṃ notpādayitavyamityāha-

pratimāstūpasaddharmanāśakākrośakeṣu ca|

na yujyate mama dveṣo buddhādīnāṃ na hi vyathā||64||



nāśakā vikopayitāraḥ| ākrośakā doṣabuddhayā vairūpyābhidhāyinaḥ| teṣu na yukto mama dveṣaḥ| kutaḥ ? yasmādbuddhādīnāṃ bodhisattvāryaśrāvakapratyekabuddhānāṃ vitathābhiniveśaprasūtātmagrāhanivṛtterabhiṣvaṅgābhāvānna vyathā cittapīḍālakṣaṇaṃ daurmanasyaṃ nāsti| iti bhāvaḥ| ataḥ pratimāvināśakeṣu dveṣacittaṃ notpādayitavyam| tathā viruddhadharmakāriṣu karuṇaiva tu yujyate teṣu sādhūnām| anyathā tatra viśeṣābhāvāt pāpameva kevalamupajāyate| yadi punardharmato nivārayituṃ śakyate, tadā na doṣaḥ||



yadapi ca dharmakāmatayā gurumātāpitrādyupaghātakāriṣu dveṣacittamutpadyate, tadapi vinivāryamevetyāha-

gurusālohitādīnāṃ priyāṇāṃ cāpakāriṣu|

pūrvavatpratyayotpādaṃ dṛṣṭvā kopaṃ nivārayet||65||





guravo dharmamārgopadeṣṭāro'kuśalapakṣanivartayitāraḥ | sālohitāḥ sodarāḥ | anye'pi jñātisagotrabāndhavādayaḥ | teṣāmapakāriṣu | tathā priyāṇāṃ premasthānānāṃ cāpakāriṣu kopaṃ nivārayediti saṃbandhaḥ | katham? pūrvavatpratyayotpādaṃ dṛṣṭvā | yaduktam-ye kecidaparādhāśca ityādinā | ataḥ sarve'pyamī pūrvakarmopajanitameva phalamupabhuñjate | nātra kaścit pratīkāraheturasti | tadanena yathā aparasamaye devagurudvijātimātāpitṛprabhṛtīnāmarthe pāpaṃ kurvato'pi na doṣa iti matam, na tathā ihābhimatamityuktaṃ bhavati ||



kiṃ ca | idamapi vastutattvaṃ manasi kurvatā na sattveṣu cittaṃ dūṣayitavyamityāha-

cetanācetanakṛtā dehināṃ niyatā vyathā |

sā vyathā cetane dṛṣṭā kṣamasvaināṃ vyathāmataḥ ||66||



samastakāryasya anvayavyatirekābhyāṃ janakatvenāvadhāritaṃ sāmagrīlakṣaṇaṃ kāraṇam| sā ca sāmagrī vastudharmatayā kācit kvacit samarthasvabhāvā| tatra cetanena kṛtā hastapādādiprahāreṇa| acetanena daṇḍaśastrarogādinā| tatrāpi cetanāvadvayāpāro'styeva| sākṣāt pāraṃparyakṛtastu viśeṣaḥ| svayameva yadṛcchayā vā loṣṭakuḍyādyabhighātajanitā vā dehināṃ śarīriṇāṃ niyatā vyathā niyamena samutpadyate| nānyadito vyathākāraṇamasti| sā caivaṃ dvividhakāraṇasāmagrīprasūtāpi cetane savijñānake kāye dṛṣṭā pramāṇapariniścitā| atastadeva tadutpattisthānaṃ nānyat| acetane| vedanāyogāt| tato yad yasyotpattisthānaṃ tat tatraiva bhavati nānyatra, yathā paṅke paṅkajaṃ na sthale| ataḥ asmānyāyāt kṣamasva sahasva enāmanantarakathitobhayarūpāṃ vyathām||



tadānīmubhayorapi sādhāraṇadūṣaṇatayā kvacidapi kopo na yukta iti kathayitumāha-

mohādeke'parādhyanti kupyantyanye vimohitāḥ|

brūmaḥ kameṣu nirdoṣaṃ kaṃ vā brūmo'parādhinam||67||



ātmātmīyagrāhābhiniveśaviparyāsādeke kecidaparādhyanti daṇḍādinā| samākrośādi vā vadantaḥ sadoṣamātmānaṃ kurvanti| anye punastadaparādhena kupyanti| vimohitā mohādeva svakṛtakarmaphalasaṃbandhamananusaranto'vidyāvaraṇāt, pratitāḍanākrośādikamārabhante| itthaṃ brūmaḥ-kam eṣu kleśarākṣasāveśavaśīkṛteṣu nirdoṣam, kaṃ vā brūmo'parādhinam ? ubhayeṣāmapi sādhāraṇadoṣatvāt||



idamapi ca ātmagatameva cintayatā pratighacittaṃ nivartayitavyamityāha-

kasmādevaṃ kṛtaṃ pūrvaṃ yenaivaṃ bādhyase paraiḥ|

sarve karmaparāyattāḥ ko'hamatrānyathākṛtau||68||



kasmātkāraṇāt kimityevam etatphalaṃ hetukarma kṛtam| yeneti lokoktireṣā yadityasyārthe| yadevam| yadi vā yena karmasāmarthyena hetunā| ākrośabandhanatāḍanādibhiḥ bādhyase pīḍyase parairanyaiḥ| nanu yadi nāma evam, tathāpi pratīkāro yukta ityāha-sarva ityādi| sarve duḥkhahetavaḥ karmapratyayopajanitapravṛttayaḥ iti ko'hamatra anyathākṛtau tatphalanivartanāya ? na kaścit| phaladānonmukhasya karmaṇaḥ kenacinnivartayitumaśakyatvāt||



idaṃ punaratra yuktarūpamityāha-

evaṃ buddhvā tu puṇyeṣu tathā yatnaṃ karomyaham|

yena sarve bhaviṣyanti maitracittāḥ parasparam||69||



ete sattvāḥ karmakleśaparāyattāḥ parasparamasamañjasakarmakāriṇo nivartayitumaśakyā iti| evaṃ buddhvā jñātvā punaḥ puṇyeṣu kuśaleṣu karmasu tathā yatnaṃ karomyaham, tena prakāreṇa vīryaṃ samārabhe, yena tathāvidhaṃ sāmarthyaṃ pratilabhya sanmārge pravartitāḥ santaḥ sarve maitracittā hitasukhavidhānatatparāḥ parasparamanyonyaṃ bhaviṣyanti||



drohacittaṃ vinivartya priyavastūpaghātakāriṇi laukikodāharaṇena dveṣaṃ nivartayediti ślokadvayamupadarśayannāha-

dahyamāne gṛhe yadvadagnirgatvā gṛhāntaram|

tṛṇādau yatra sajyeta tadākṛṣyāpanīyate||70||



evaṃ cittaṃ yadāsaṅgādahyate dveṣavahninā|

tatkṣaṇaṃ tatparityājyaṃ puṇyātmoddāhaśaṅkayā||71||



ekasmin gṛhe'gninā dahyamāne yathā tasmād gṛhādanyad gṛhaṃ gṛhāntaraṃ gatvā| agniryatra tṛṇakāṣṭhādau sajjate lagati, tadantargatamanyadapi vastu mā dhākṣīditi śaṅkayā tadākṛṣyāpanīyate, pṛthak kṛtvā nirdhāryate, iti dṛṣṭakramaṃ prakṛte'pi yojayannāha| evamuktodāharaṇanyāyena cittaṃ mano yasya vastuna āsaṅgādāsakto dahyate paritapyate dveṣavahninā pratighānalena tadāsaṅgasthānaṃ vastu tatkṣaṇaṃ na kālāntarapalimbena parityājyaṃ tatrābhiniveśaḥ parihartavyaḥ| kiṃ kāraṇam ? puṇyasyātmā śarīram| puṇyaskandha iti yāvat| tasya uktakrameṇa uddāhaḥ parikṣayo mā bhūt| anyathā gṛhāntargatapadārthavat pradveṣavahniḥ tamapi dahet||



api ca| lābha evāyaṃ labdhaḥ, yanmanuṣyaduḥkhairnarakaphalaṃ karma vipacyate iti pratipādayannāha-

māraṇīyaḥ karaṃ chittvā muktaścetkimabhadrakam|

manuṣyaduḥkhairnarakānmuktaścetkimabhadrakam||72||



yo hi māraṇamarhati, sa yadi hastamātraṃ chittvā mucyate, tadā na kācit kṣatirasya| pratyuta labdhalābhamātmānaṃ manyate atyalpamidaṃ maraṇaduḥkhāt karacchedanaduḥkhamiti| tathā yo'pi manuṣyaduḥkhaṃ tāḍanabandhanatiraskārādikṛtamanubhūya narakaduḥkhādvimukto bhavati, tasyāpi na kiṃcidapacīyate| na kiṃcididaṃ duḥkhaṃ narakaduḥkhāt, sukhameva tat| tato yadi vicakṣaṇaḥ syāt, tadā saumanasyamevātra yuktamasya||



athāpi syāt-na mayā svalpamātre'pi duḥkhe kṣamā kartuṃ śakyata iti, atrāha-

yadyetanmātramevādya duḥkhaṃ soḍhuṃ na pāryate|

tannārakavyathāhetuḥ krodhaḥ kasmānna vāryate||73||



khaṭacapeṭaloṣṭādiprahārakṛtamīṣanmātramapi duḥkhamidānīṃ soḍhuṃ marṣituṃ na pāryate na śakyate| tadatra bhavantaṃ pṛcchāmaḥ-yadi evameva, tadayaṃ nārakaduḥkhasaṃvartanīyaḥ krodhaḥ kopaḥ kasmātkāraṇānna vāryate ? ayameva hi atitarāṃ narakeṣu duḥkhadāyaka iti duḥkhabhīrūṇāmeva krodhaṃ nivartayituṃ yuktaṃ syāt||



kiṃ ca| yadyapi soḍhuṃ na śakyate, tathāpi taddhetukakarmasaṃbhavādanicchato'pi duḥkhamāpatiṣyati bhavataḥ| na ca kiṃcitphalamutpatsyate| marṣaṇāt punastasya mahārthalābho bhaviṣyatīti vṛttadvayena śikṣayitumāha-

kopārthamevamevāhaṃ narakeṣu sahasraśaḥ|

kārito'smi na cātmārthaḥ parārtho vā kṛto mayā||74||



na cedaṃ tādṛśaṃ duḥkhaṃ mahārthaṃ ca kariṣyati|

jagadduḥkhahare duḥkhe prītirevātra yujyate||75||



kopanimittameva| evameva niṣphalameva| narakeṣu saṃjīvādiṣu| sahasraśaḥ anekavāram| ahaṃ kāritaḥ chedanabhedanapāṭanādikāraṇābhiḥ pīḍitaḥ| evaṃ duḥkhamanubhavatāpi mayā na ca naiva ātmārthaḥ dṛṣṭādṛṣṭaphalasādhanaḥ kṛto niṣpāditaḥ| parasya anyasya vā arthaḥ sukhavidhānalakṣaṇaḥ| iti niṣprayojanameva nārakaduḥkhasahasraśaḥ paribhavo jātaḥ| tadadyāpi na tathaiva mamāsahiṣṇutā yuktetyāha-idaṃ duḥkhaṃ naiva tādṛśaṃ yādṛśaṃ narakasamudbhavam| atha ca mahārthaṃ sarvasattvahitasukhavidhānabhūtaṃ buddhatvaṃ sādhayiṣyati| ato jagato duḥkhahare trijagatparyāpannasarvasattvaduḥkhapraśamanakare duḥkhe prītirevātra yujyate nāruciriti bhāvaḥ||



paraguṇaśravaṇerṣyāmalaprakṣālanāyāha-

yadi prītisukhaṃ prāptamanyaiḥ stutvā guṇorjitam|

manastvamapi taṃ stutvā kasmādevaṃ na hṛṣyasi||76||



guṇādhikaṃ stutvā yadi prītisukhaṃ kaiścit prāptam, tadā he manaḥ tvamapi tadguṇasaṃvarṇanena kimiti harṣasukhaṃ nānubhavasi ? kimakāṇḍameva tadīrṣyānalajvālāyāmātmasaṃtānamindhanīkaroṣi ? nanu sarvasukhamāsaṅgātmatayā niṣiddhameva sevitum| tataḥ ahaṃ sarvasukhavaimukhyādidamapi nopādade| vakṣyati hi-

yatra yatra ratiṃ yāti manaḥ sukhavimohitam|

tasmātsahasraguṇitaṃ duḥkhaṃ bhūtvopatiṣṭhate||iti|

āha-

idaṃ ca te hṛṣṭisukhaṃ niravadyaṃ sukhodayam|

na vāritaṃ ca guṇibhiḥ parāvarjanamuttamam||77||



na hi sarvaṃ hṛṣṭisukhamapākṛtam, api tu yat sāvadyamakuśalahetuḥ| idaṃ ca paraguṇāśrayaṃ hṛṣṭisukhaṃ niravadyaṃ tava, na ca akuśalahetuḥ| ataḥ sukhodayaṃ sukhasyodayo'smāditi kṛtvā| ata eva na vāritaṃ ca guṇibhirbhagavacchāsanavidhijñaiḥ| ayamaparo'sya guṇaḥ, yat parāvarjanamuttamaṃ paraguṇeṣu prītyā| guṇeṣu evamayaṃ matsarīti manyamānā anye'pi sattvā āvarjitā bhavanti, ato yuktamevātra prītisukhamupādātum||



syādetat-na paraguṇeṣu akṣamā kācinmama| kiṃ tarhi tāvattasyaiva sukhametaditi mayā soḍhumaśakyamiti| atrāha-

tasyaiva sukhamityevaṃ tavedaṃ yadi na priyam|

bhṛtidānādiviraterdṛṣṭādṛṣṭaṃ hataṃ bhavet||78||



tasyaiva stutikartuḥ sukhamiti evamanenābhiprāyeṇa bhavato yadi idaṃ paraguṇastutipratisamudbhavaṃ sukhaṃ na priyam, tadā atisaṃkaṭe patito'si | katham ? bhṛtidānādivirateḥ| yadapi ca bhavataḥ svātmasukhanimittaṃ svabhṛtyādiṣu bhṛtidānaṃ karmamūlyadānam, tathā upakārakāriṇi pratyupakārakaraṇam| ityāderviratervaimukhyāt, tadapi na kartavyameva syāt parasukhavidveṣiṇā| yatastenāpi tasya sukhameva saṃpatsyate| tato dṛṣṭamaihikaṃ phalam, adṛṣṭaṃ pāralaukikam| ubhayamapi hataṃ bhavet parasukhasaṃpadamarṣiṇā||



kiṃ ca| mithyottaramevedaṃ bhavata iti pratipādayannāha-

svaguṇe kīrtyamāne ca parasaukhyamapīcchasi|

kīrtyamāne paraguṇe svasaukhyamapi necchasi||79||



yadi kaścidbhavato guṇamudīrayati, tadā tasya parasyāniṣṭamapi saukhyamicchasi| atha paraguṇānanuvarṇayati, tadā punarīrṣyāśalyavitudyamānamānasaḥ| svasaukhyamapi necchasi| āstāṃ tāvat parasaukhyamityapiśabdaḥ| tasmāt parasukhasaṃpadīrṣyaiva bhavataḥ, na stāvakasukhāsahiṣṇutā|| yaduktam-



tasyaiva sukhamityevaṃ tavedaṃ yadi na priyam| iti|

[bodhi. 6.78]



tatra viśeṣeṇa dūṣaṇamāha-

bodhicittaṃ samutpādya sarvasattvasukhecchayā|

svayaṃ labdhasukheṣvadya kasmātsattveṣu kupyasi||80||



idamatigarhitameva viśeṣeṇa samutpāditabodhicittasya, yat parasukhasaṃpadasahiṣṇutā nāma| yataḥ sarvasattvāḥ triadhātukāntaścarāḥ samastasukhasaṃpattisaṃtarpitā buddhatvamadhigamya mayā kartavyāḥ iti manasikāreṇa bodhicittamutpādyate| tadutpādya kasmāt sattveṣu kupyate ? adya idānīm| kiṃbhūteṣu prasādasthāneṣu ? svacittamabhiprasādya svayamātmanaiva prāptasukheṣu| iti akaraṇīyameva tat parasukhavaimukhyacittaṃ bodhisattvasyeti bhāvaḥ||



yaḥ punarutpāditabodhicitto'pi parasya lābhasatkārasaṃpattimabhisamīkṣya tadīrṣyākaṣāyitahṛdayaḥ tenaiva śokena dahyate, tasya paribhāṣaṇārthamāha-

trailokyapūjyaṃ buddhatvaṃ sattvānāṃ kila vāñchasi|

satkāramitvaraṃ dṛṣṭvā teṣāṃ kiṃ paridahyase||81||



athavā syādetat-na khalu mayā tatsukhameva na mṛṣyate, kiṃ tarhi tadudbhāvitānyaguṇaśravaṇābhiprasannamānasaiḥ teṣāmupanāmitaṃ lābhasatkāramityatrāha-trailokyetyādi| trayo lokāeva kāmarūpārūpyadhātulakṣaṇāḥ lokaprasiddhayā vā svargādisvabhāvāḥ trailokyam, tatsamudāyo vā| tasya pūjāmarhatīti pūjyamabhyarcanīyam| anena sarvātiśāyitvaṃ pratipāditam| tathābhūtaṃ buddhatvaṃ sattvānāṃ kila vāñchasi| kiletyanena viparyayaṃ dṛṣṭvā aruciṃ prakāśayati| satkāra mityupalakṣaṇam| lābhamapi| śeṣaṃ subodham||



lābhamabhisaṃdhāyāha-

puṣṇāti yastvayā poṣyaṃ tubhyameva dadāti saḥ|

kuṭumbajīvinaṃ labdhvā na hṛṣyasi prakupyasi||82||



tvayā poṣaṇīyaṃ priyaputrakādikaṃ tvadīyaṃ yaḥ puṣṇāti, sa tubhyameva dadāti| tavaiva tenopacayaḥ kṛto bhavet| ataḥ tvatkuṭumbajīvinaṃ tvadīyaṃ kuṭumbaṃ jīvayati yaḥ, taṃ tathāvidhaṃ puruṣaṃ labdhvā prāpya prahṛṣyasi na ? kākvā pṛcchati-prakupyasi, na prahṛṣyase cetyarthaḥ| tathā prakṛte'pi yena sarvasattvā ātmīyatvena gṛhītāḥ, tasya tatsukhaiḥ sukhamevocitamiti||



syādetat-buddhatvameva tvayā teṣāṃ pratijñātam, na tu punaranyasukhamityāśaṅkayāha-

sa kiṃ necchasi sattvānāṃ yasteṣāṃ bodhimicchati|

nanu etadapi na samyak| yasmāt-

jagadadya nimantritaṃ mayā

sugatatvena sukhena cāntarā||



iti pratijñātam| bhavatu nāma evam, tathāpi yaḥ samutpāditabodhicittaḥ teṣāṃ sattvānāṃ bodhiṃ buddhatvamicchati, sa kimanyalaukikalokottaramarthajātaṃ necchati ? atha naivamiṣyate, tadā bodhicittamapi hīyate ityāha-

bodhicittaṃ kutastasya yo'nyasaṃpadi kupyati||83||



bodhicittaṃ kutastasya ? mithyaiva bodhicittapratijñasya| kasya ? yo'nyasaṃpadi kupyati| itaravibhūtau lābhasatkāraprasūtāyām, iti marmacodanā bodhisattvasya kuśalakarmanivṛttihetuḥ||



api ca| aparasya lābhasatkārasaṃpadabhāve'pi na bhavatastadbhāvasaṃbhavaḥ| tatkimakāraṇameva tadvidveṣiṇā ātmaghātāya yatnaḥ kriyate iti pratipādayannāha-

yadi tena na tallabdhaṃ sthitaṃ dānapatergṛhe|

sarvathāpi na tatte'sti dattādattena tena kim||84||



yadi nāma tena tava akṣamāviṣayeṇa sattvena taddīyamānaṃ vastu na labdham, tathāpi sthitaṃ dānapatergṛhe| bhavatastu kiṃ tasmājjātam ? sarvathāpi tena labdhena gṛhāvasthitena vā na tadvastu tavāsti| iti dattādattena te kim ? na kiṃcit prayojanaṃ bhavataḥ| atastatra upekṣaiva yuktā viduṣaḥ||



kiṃ ca| idamapi tāvat paribhāvyatāmityupadarśayannāha-

kiṃ vārayatu puṇyāni prasannān svaguṇānatha|

labhamāno na gṛhṇātu vada kena na kupyasi||85||



yo'sau atiprasannairdāyakadānapatiobhirlābhasatkāraiḥ pūjyate, sa kiṃ vārayatu puṇyāni pūrvajanmakṛtāni vipākonmukhāni, yadvaśāttasya lābhasatkārāḥ| uta prasannān dāyakadānapatīn vārayatu, atha svaguṇān vārayatu, yānāśritya eṣāṃ prasādo jātaḥ| mā prasādamapyeṣāṃ janayiṣyatheti| athavā| labhamāno'pi tebhyo na svīkarotu| brūhi kena prakāreṇa atra na bhavato'paritoṣaḥ syāt| tatra puṇyādīnāṃ vārayitumaśakyatvāt labhyamānāgrahaṇe'pi sarvathāpi na tatte'stītyādinā bādhakasyoktatvāditi na kiṃcit paritoṣakāraṇamasti||



athāpi syāt-parasyaiva lābhasatkārasaṃpattirasti, na mama| atha mama nāsti, tadā parasyāpi mā bhūt, ityetanmamāsaṃtuṣṭinibandhanamityāśaṅkayāha-

na kevalaṃ tvamātmānaṃ kṛtapāpaṃ na śocasi|

kṛtapuṇyaiḥ saha spardhāmaparaiḥ kartumicchasi||86||



subodham| "yat kiṃcidduḥkhaṃ tatsarvaṃ pāpasamudbhūtam| abhilāṣavighāto'pi duḥkham| yadapi paryeṣamāṇo na labhate, tadapi duḥkham" iti vacanāt|| yadvakṣyati-

abhilāṣavighātāśca jāyante pāpakāriṇām| iti|

yat kiṃcit sukhaṃ tat sarvaṃ puṇyaprasūtam| iti sukhābhilāṣiṇā śubhe karmaṇi udyogaḥ karaṇīyaḥ| yadvakṣyati-

puṇyakārisukhecchā tu............ ityādi|

iti kathaṃ kṛtapuṇyaiḥ saha spardhā yujyate ? sukṛtakriyāyāmeva tatsukhābhilāṣiṇāṃ spardhā yuktetyarthaḥ||



api ca| idamapi praṣṭavyo'si-

jātaṃ cedapriyaṃ śatrostvattuṣṭayā kiṃ punarbhavet|



tava śatrordveṣaviṣayasya tvadabhilāṣamātreṇa apriyamaniṣṭaṃ jātamutpannaṃ ced yadi, etāvatā bhavataḥ kiṃ punarbhavet ? bhavatu tāvat tasyāniṣṭam, anyasya tu bhavatu, mā vā|



mama kiṃcideva tāvanmātreṇa prayojanamiti parābhiprāyamāśaṅkayāha-

tvadāśaṃsanamātreṇa na cāheturbhaviṣyati||87||



tavāśaṃsanam icchā| abhilāṣa iti yāvat| tāvanmātreṇa na cāhetuḥ, na vidyate heturasya, ityaheturartho bhaviṣyati||



apriyasya bhavatu nāma evamityabhyupagamyocyate-

atha tvadicchayā siddhaṃ tadduḥkhe kiṃ sukhaṃ tava|



yadi nāma tavecchayā siddhaṃ niṣpannamapriyaṃ śatroḥ, tathāpi tasya duḥkhe samutpanne kiṃ sukhaṃ tava ? na kiṃcit| niṣprayojanamidamabhipretamiti yāvat| nanu idameva prayojanaṃ yat tadduḥkhe mama saṃtuṣṭirityata āha-

athāpyartho bhavedevamanarthaḥ ko nvataḥ paraḥ||88||



evamapi paraduḥkhaparitoṣe yadi arthaḥ prayojanaṃ bhavet, tadā ataḥ paraḥ anarthaḥ ko nu ? nurityatiśaye| ayamevānartho mahānityarthaḥ||



kathaṃ punarayamanartha ityāha-

etaddhi baḍiśaṃ ghoraṃ kleśabāḍiśikārpitam|

yato narakapālāstvāṃ krītvā pakṣyanti kumbhiṣu||89||



yasmādetadidamevaṃvidhaṃ parānarthacittaṃ baḍiśaṃ ghoraṃ mahābhayaṃkaram| kiṃbhūtam ? kleśabāḍiśikārpitam| kleśā eva baḍiśena carantīti bāḍiśikāḥ tairarpitamādattam| yataḥ kleśabāḍiśikāt| bāḍiśikādiva matsyam| narakapālā yamapuruṣāḥ tvāṃ krītvā pakṣyanti pakṣyante| kvacinnītveti pāṭhaḥ| kumbhiṣu narakaviśeṣeṣu| tasmādatrābhilāṣaṃ mā kārṣīriti bhāvaḥ||



yadapi stutyādivighāte duḥkhamutpadyate, tadapi avivecayata evetyupadeśayannāha-

stutiryaśo'tha satkāro na puṇyāya na cāyuṣe|

na balārthaṃ na cārogye na ca kāyasukhāya me||90||

etāvāṃśca bhavetsvārtho dhīmataḥ svārthavedinaḥ|



pañcaprakāra evārthaḥ puruṣārthatvenābhimato viduṣām| tadyathā-puṇyam, āyurvṛddhiḥ, balavṛddhiḥ, ārogyalābhaḥ, kāyasukhaṃ ceti| na caiteṣu kvacidupayujyante stutyādayaḥ| iyāneva hi svārtho bhavato bhavet prajñāvataḥ svārthavedinaḥ| anyasya punaranyathāpi bhavet, iti ātmani parāmṛśati| jānantu yadyapi svārtham, tathāpi svārthavedinaḥ anupāyatvāt pṛthagupadarśitaḥ| dhīmata ityanena tadasaṅgatayā tadapi kathitam||



nanu mānasamapi sukhamasti, tena avadhāraṇamayuktamityatrāha-

madyadyūtādi sevyaṃ syānmānasaṃ sukhamicchatā||91||



mānasaṃ sukhaṃ saumanasyam| tadicchatā madyaṃ dyūtaṃ gaṇikā pāradārikaṃ sevanīyaṃ syāt| yatpunaḥ saddharmaśravaṇāt saumanasyam, tat puṇyagrahaṇena saṃgṛhītamityadoṣaḥ| tasmāt saumanasya heturbhavato'pi stutyādayo bālajanānandakāriṇo'nupādeyā eva||



itthamapi bālajanollāpakāriṇaḥ stutyādaya ityāha-

yaśorthaṃ hārayantyarthamātmānaṃ mārayantyapi|



kecinmohapuruṣāḥ tādṛśaguṇāt svayamatisudūre vartamānā api śakrādiguṇaiḥ stūyamānā bandijanairanyaiśca protphullanayanavadanā yaśorthino hastyaśvādidhanaṃ tṛṇavat tebhyaḥ prayacchanti| tathā taireva guṇaiḥ saṃbhāvitātmanāmapi śakravat śatruvijayasamudbhūtaṃ yaśo mama jagati vipulatāṃ gamiṣyati, ityabhiniveśādduḥsahasaṃgrāmārohaṇānmārayanti|



na cātra paramārthataḥ kiṃcit prayojanam, anyatra mithyāvikalpāditi pratipādayannāha-

kimakṣarāṇi bhakṣyāṇi mṛte kasya ca tatsukham||92||



stutyādyabhidhāyakāni akṣarāṇi varṇāḥ kiṃ bhakṣyāṇi carvitavyāni ? yaśorthaṃ mṛte sati kasya ca tat sukhaṃ yaśaḥśravaṇasamuttham ?



tasmādbālakrīḍāsamānametadityupadarśayannāha-

yathā pāṃśugṛhe bhinne rodityārtaravaṃ śiśuḥ|



yathā kaścid bālo dhūlimayagṛheṇa paramaparitoṣeṇa parikrīḍamānaḥ kenacit tasmin bhagne mahadduḥkhena parigṛhītaḥ paramārtipīḍita iva madgṛhaṃ bhagnamiti karuṇasvaraṃ krandati, saivopamā atrāpi ityāha-

tathā stutiyaśohānau svacittaṃ pratibhāti me||93||



tathaiva stutiyaśohānau vighāte svacittaṃ duḥkhamāviśat pratibhāsate vicārayato mama| atrāpi na vastusatā kenacid vipralambha iti parāmarṣṭavyam||



punaranyathā vicāreṇa bāladharma evāyamiti caturbhiḥ ślokaiḥ parāmṛśayannāha-

śabdastāvadacittatvāt sa māṃ stautītyasaṃbhavaḥ|



śabdo varṇātmako bāhyārthatayā acittaḥ acetanaḥ| tasya bhāvaḥ tasmāt| sa śabdo māṃ stauti madīyaṃ varṇamudīrayati| asaṃbhavaḥ na saṃbhavatyetat| tat kathaṃ saumanasyaṃ jāyate ityāha-

paraḥ kila mayi prīta ityetatprītikāraṇam||94||



anyaḥ puruṣaścetanātmakaḥ| kileti nirarthakametadapītyarucipratipādakam| mayi prītaḥ abhiprasannaḥ ityetadabhisaṃdhānaṃ prītikāraṇam|



tatrāpyevamasaṃbandhātkevalaṃ śiśuceṣṭitam|

iti saṃbandhaḥ||

asaṃbandhameva kalpayannāha-

anyatra mayi vā prītyā kiṃ hi me parakīyayā|

tasyaiva tatprītisukhaṃ bhāgo nālpo'pi me tataḥ||95||



yasmādanyasmin mayi vā prītyā parasaṃtānavartinyā kimāyātaṃ mama ? na kiṃcit| kutaḥ ? tasyaiva tato ya eva prītaḥ stutikartā, tat prītisukhaṃ nānyasya| ato bhāgo nālpo'pi īṣadapi mama tataḥ parasaṃtānavartinaḥ prītisukhāt||



syādetat-parasukhenaiva sukhitvaṃ bodhisattvānām| tat kimiti tato bhāgo nāstīti ? atrāha-

tatsukhena sukhitvaṃ cetsarvatraiva mamāstu tat|

kasmādanyaprasādena sukhiteṣu na me sukham||96||



yadi parasukhena sukhitvam| tadā tasminnanyatra prasādena sukhite'pi mamāstu tatsukhitvam| kimātmanyabhiprasādena prīte parasmin prītiḥ ? na tvanyasmin prasādena sukhiteṣu mama sukham||



tasmādvacanamātramevaitat, na paramārtha iti darśayitumāha-

tasmādahaṃ stuto'smīti prītirātmani jāyate|

tatrāpyevamasaṃbandhāt kevalaṃ śiśuceṣṭitam||97||



tadanyanimittābhāvāt ahaṃ stuta ityevaṃ vikalpanāt prītirātmabni jāyate, na punaḥ parasukhena sukhitvāt| tatrāpi na kevalamanyaprasādena sukhite sati| ātmanyapi evamuktakrameṇa asaṃbandhādapratyāsatteḥ kāraṇāt kevalaṃ bālavilasitametat||



api ca| stutyādayo mama apacayameva dadhatītyupadarśayannāha-

stutyādayaśca me kṣemaṃ saṃvegaṃ nāśayantyamī|

guṇavatsu ca mātsaryaṃ saṃpatkopaṃ ca kurvate||98||



amī stutyādayaḥ mama kṣemaṃ kalyāṇam| atha kṣemaṃ kuśalapakṣaparipālanam| tathā saṃvegaṃ saṃsāraduḥkhanirvedanam| nāśayanti ghnanti| na tāvanmātrameva, kiṃ tu guṇavatsu ca mātsaryam| ātmani guṇādhikamānena paraguṇapracchādanāt| tadguṇāsahanatayā vā saṃpadi lābhasatkārādisvabhāvāyāṃ kopaṃ ca amarṣaṃ kurvate teṣveva| ahameva guṇādhikaḥ, mamaiva sarvā saṃpattirucitā nānyeṣāmiti matvā||



yata ete doṣāḥ stutyādiṣu saṃbhavinaḥ,

tasmātstutyādighātāya mama ye pratyupasthitāḥ|

apāyapātarakṣārthaṃ pravṛttā nanu te mama||99||



tasmāt kāraṇāt | stutyādighātāya virodhāya ye sattvā mama pratyupasthitā udyatāḥ| apāyapāto narakādipatanam | tato rakṣārthaṃ trāṇārthaṃ rakṣaṇanimittaṃ pravṛttā udyuktā nanu te mama| ataḥ kalyāṇamitrāṇi te, nāpakāriṇa iti||



lābhādivirodhini sarvathā pratighacittamayuktaṃ mama ityupadarśayitumāha-

muktyarthinaścāyuktaṃ me lābhasatkārabandhanam|

ye mocayanti māṃ bandhādveṣasteṣu kathaṃ mama||100||



vimuktikāmasya lābhasatkārau bandhanamiva, saṅgasthānatvāt, ayuktaṃ nocitaṃ mumukṣorbandhanam| kalyāṇamitrakṛtyakāriṇaḥ śatrutvenābhimatā vimocayanti viyojayanti māṃ bandhāt saṃsāraduḥkhalakṣaṇāt lābhādisvabhāvādvā| dveṣasteṣu paramopakāriṣu prītisthāneṣu kathaṃ mama ? na yukta ityabhiprāyaḥ||



kathaṃ na yuktamityāha-

duḥkhaṃ praveṣṭukāmasya ye kapāṭatvamāgatāḥ|

buddhādhiṣṭhānata iva dveṣasteṣu kathaṃ mama||101||



lābhasatkārābhiṣvaṅgaprasaṅgāt saṃsāraduḥkhairvimoktukāmasya ye satpuruṣaviśeṣāḥ kapāṭatvamapadvāratvamāgatāḥ| kutaḥ ? buddhānāmadhiṣṭhānato'nubhāvādiva| dveṣasteṣu kathaṃ mama?



kuśalāpaghātakāriṇyapi dveṣaṃ nivārayannāha-

puṇyavighnaḥ kṛto'nenetyatra kopo na yujyate|

kṣāntyā samaṃ tapo nāsti nanvetattadupasthitam||102||



kuśalavighātaḥ kṛto'nena ityevaṃ manasi nidhāya atra puṇyavighātakāriṇi dveṣo na yujyate| kasmāt ? yataḥ kṣāntyā titikṣayā samaṃ tulyaṃ tapaḥ sukṛtaṃ nāsti sarvaśubhakarmahetutvāt| "na ca kṣāntisamaṃ tapaḥ" (bodhi. 6.2) iti vacanāt| nanu tadevedamayatnata eva upasthitamupanatam| puṇyavighnakāricchalena puṇyahetusaṃnidheḥ||



tatra pradveṣe tu ātmanaiva puṇyavighātaḥ kṛto bhavedityāha-

athāhamātmadoṣeṇa na karomi kṣamāmiha|

mayaivātra kṛto vighnaḥ puṇyahetāvupasthite||103||



atha yadi ātmana eva doṣeṇa asahiṣṇutātmakena na karomi kṣamāṃ kṣāntimiha vighnakāriṇi, tadā mayaiva na punaranyena atra puṇye kṛto vighnaḥ| kutaḥ ? puṇyahetau puṇyavighātakāritvenābhimate upasthite saṃnihitībhūte| atretyasmin puṇyahetāviti vā saṃbhāvyate||



yadi puṇyavighātakārī, kathamasau puṇyahetuḥ ? yāvat sa eva vighna ityāha-

yo hi yena vinā nāsti yasmiṃśca sati vidyate|

sa eva kāraṇaṃ tasya sa kathaṃ vighna ucyate||104||



yo bhāvaḥ kāryābhimataḥ yena kāraṇābhimatena vinā nāsti, tadvayatireke na bhavati, sa eva yadbhāvena bhavati, nānyaḥ kāraṇaṃ janakaḥ tasya kāryābhimatasya, tadanvayavyatirekānuvidhānāt| evaṃ prakṛte'pi sa janaka eva kathaṃ tasya janyasya vighna ucyate vighātaheturabhidhīyate ? tathāvidhe'pi tathā vyavahāraṃ kurvato nāsti vipratipattiḥ||



uktamevārthaṃ dṛṣṭāntopadarśanena vyaktaṃ kurvannāha-

na hi kālopapannena dānavighnaḥ kṛto'rthinā|

na ca pravrājake prāpte pravrajyāvighna ucyate||105||



na yasmāt kasyaciddānapaterditsākāle eva saṃprāptenārthinā yācanakena dānavighnaḥ kṛtaḥ ityucyate, yataḥ sa kāraṇameva dānasya| tathā kasyacit pravrajitukāmasya pravrājakasamavadhānaṃ pravrajyā saṃvarādigrahaṇasvabhāvā, na ca tasyā vighna ucyate, api tu kāraṇameva sa tasyāḥ| tamantareṇa tasyā asaṃbhavāt| evaṃ prakṛte'pi draṣṭavyam|



api ca| kṣāntiheturatidurlabha iti tatsamāgame prītireva yujyate ityupadarśayannāha-

sulabhā yācakā loke durlabhāstvapakāriṇaḥ|



atipracuraprāptikā yācanakā loke sarvatra sarveṣāṃ dīyamānagrahaṇāvaimukhyāt, na tu punarapakāriṇaḥ| ataste durlabhāḥ śatasahasreṣu, yadi kathaṃcit kaścit syādvā na veti| kutaḥ punaretadevamityāha-

yato me'naparādhasya na kaścidaparādhyati||106||







yasmādanaparādhasya nivṛttaparāpakārasya mama nirnimittaṃ na kaścideko'pi aparādhyati, nāpakaroti| karmaṇi ṣaṣṭhī||



evamatidurlabhatayā paramopakāritvācca abhinandanīya eva apakārītyāha-

aśramopārjitastasmādgṛhe nidhirivotthitaḥ|

bodhicaryāsahāyatvāt spṛhaṇīyo ripurmama||107||



yasmāt kathaṃcit prāpyante apakāriṇaḥ, tasmād gṛhe prādurbhūto nidhiriva śramamantareṇaivādhigato ripurabhilaṣaṇīya eva mayā syāt, bodhicaryāyāṃ buddhatvasaṃbhāropārjane sahakāritvācca||



evaṃvidhe paramapuruṣārthe sāhāyyaṃ bhajamānasya pratyupakārakaraṇameva kṛtajñatayā mama yuktamityupadarśayannāha-

mayā cānena copāttaṃ tasmādetat kṣamāphalam|

etasmai prathamaṃ deyametatpūrvā kṣamā yataḥ||108||



yasmādasau tatra sāhāyyaṃ kurvan kāraṇameva na vighnaḥ tasmānmayā kṣamāmabhyastatā, anena cāpakāraṃ kurvatā, iti dvābhyāmevopārjitam| etaditi yasya sādhanāya sāhāyyaṃ bhajate| kṣamāphalaṃ dharmādhigamalakṣaṇam etasmai dharmasahāyāya prathamamagrato dātavyaṃ mayā iti praṇidhātavyam| yathā maitrībalena bodhisattvena praṇihitaṃ pañcakānuddiśya| tatra kāraṇamāha-yasmādetatpūrvā, eṣa eva pūrvaṃ kāraṇaṃ yasyāḥ sā tathoktā| na hi apakāriṇamantareṇa anyat kṣāntikāraṇamasti||



yuktamevaitad yadi tenaivābhiprāyeṇa asau pravartate, kevalamapakārāśaya evāyamityāśaṅkayannāha-

kṣamāsiddhayāśayo nāsya tena pūjyo na cedariḥ|

siddhiheturacitto'pi saddharmaḥ pūjyate katham||109||



kṣamā asya bodhisattvasya niṣpadyatām, ityāśayo nāsya apakārodyatasya| tena kāraṇena kuśalaheturapi yadi śatruḥ pūjanīyo na bhavati, evaṃ tarhi kuśalaniṣpattihetuḥ nirabhiprāyo'pi saddharmaḥ pravacanalakṣaṇaḥ kathaṃ pūjyate ? so'pi tadāśayaśūnyatvāt pūjanīyo na syāt, iti bhāvaḥ||



atha saddharmasya nirabhiprāyatayā apakārāśayo'pi nāsti, asya punastadviparyayo dṛśyate, ityāha-

apakārāśayo'syeti śatruryadi na pūjyate|

anyathā me kathaṃ kṣāntirbhiṣajīva hitodyate||110||



apakāraḥ āśayaḥ asya śatroḥ, ityevamabhisaṃdhāya śatruryadi na pūjyate dānamānairna satkriyate| anyatheti apakāriṇi dveṣacittamanivārayataḥ kathaṃ mama kṣāntiḥ ? tadapakāramasahamānasya pratyapakāraṃ vā kurvato naiva yuktetyarthaḥ| anyatrapi kathaṃ kṣāntiḥ ? bhiṣajīva hitodyate, suvaidyavad hitasukhavidhāyake yatra premagauravameva sadā, dveṣanibandhanasya gandho'pi na vidyate||



dveṣacittanivaertanācca kṣāntirucyate| tasmādapakāriṇyeva pratighacittaṃ nivartayataḥ kṣāntiriti | etadeva darśayannāha-

tadduṣṭāśayamevātaḥ pratītyotpadyate kṣamā|

sa evātaḥ kṣamāhetuḥ pūjyaḥ saddharmavanmayā||111||



yato bhiṣajīva hitodyate kṣāntirna yuktā, ataḥ asmāddhetoḥ tasya duṣṭāśayameva pratītya nimittīkṛtya samupajāyate kṣamā| na punaḥ kasyacicchubhāśayam| ataḥ asmāt sa eva yasyāśayaṃ pratītyotpadyate kṣamā kṣamāhetuḥ, na tu punaryo vaidyavadaduṣṭāśayaḥ| iti pūjyaḥ kṣamāsiddhyāśayarahito'pi saddharmavadasau mayā| etaduktaṃ bhavati-kiṃ mamānena āśayavicāreṇa prayojanam ? abhimatasādhyasiddhau cedupayujyate, tāvataiva mamopādeyaḥ syāt| viguṇāśayaphalaṃ tu tasyaiva, yasyāsau viguṇāśayaḥ| mama tu śubhodayaheturevāyam, iti kathamiva pūjanīyo na bhavediti| tasmāt saṃbhāropayogini hetau kiṃ svarūpanirūpaṇena?



etadeva saṃbhārahetutvamasya āgamataḥ prasādhayannāha-

sattvakṣetraṃ jinakṣetramityato muninoditam|

etānārādhya bahavaḥ saṃpatpāraṃ yato gatāḥ||112||



saṃbhāraprasūtipravṛttihetutvāt sattvāḥ kṣetram| buddhā bhagavantastathaiva kṣetram| iti evam| ato buddhatvakāraṇahetutvāt anekaprakāraṃ bhagavatā varṇitam| kutaḥ ? yato yasmādetān sattvān jināṃśca ārādhya ānukūlyānuṣṭhānena bahavo buddhatvamadhigamya sarvalaukikalokottarasarvasaṃpattiparyantaṃ prāptāḥ||



syādetat-yadi nāma sattvā api sarvasaṃpattihetavaḥ, tathāpi tathāgataiḥ saha sādhāraṇatā na yukteti| atrāha-

sattvebhyaśca jinebhyaśca buddhadharmāgame same|

jineṣu gauravaṃ yadvanna sattveṣviti kaḥ kramaḥ||113||



ubhayebhyo'pi buddhadharmāṇāṃ balavaiśāradyādīnāmāgame pratilambhe tulye aviśiṣṭe| ubhayamapi tat prati hetutvamaviśiṣṭamiti bhāvaḥ| ataḥ sādhāraṇe'pi hetubhāve jineṣu gauravaṃ yadvat, tadvanna sattveṣu| ityevaṃ kaḥkramaḥ paripāṭiḥ prekṣāvatām ? naiva yuktetyarthaḥ||



nanu ca sattvānāṃ rāgādimalairhīnāśayatvāt kāraṇatve'pi kathaṃ bhagavatsamānatā yujyate ityāśaṅkayāha-

āśayasya ca māhātmyaṃ na svataḥ kiṃ tu kāryataḥ|

samaṃ ca tena māhātmyaṃ sattvānāṃ tena te samāḥ||114||



yadyapi bhagavatāmaparimitapuṇyajñānopajanitamanuttaramiha māhātmyam, tathāpi upayuktopayogitvena hetubhāvasya tulyatvāt samaṃ māhātmyamucyate| tena hetunā te sattvāḥ samāḥ jinaistulyā ucyante iti nātra viśeṣaḥ kriyate||



yatra punaḥ pratiniyatātmagato viśeṣaḥ, tamupadarśayitumāha-

maitryāśayaśca yatpūjyaḥ sattvamāhātmyameva tat|

buddhaprasādādyatpuṇyaṃ buddhamāhātmyameva tat||115||



sattveṣu maitracittavihārī punaryatpūjyate janaiḥ, tattasyaiva maitryāśayasya pratyātmagataṃ māhātmyaṃ nānyasya| tathā tathāgatamāhātmyamālambya svacittaṃ prasādayato yatpuṇyamutpadyate, tadbhagavata eva māhātmyamasādhāraṇam, anyasya tathāvidhaguṇābhāvāt||



ityasādhāraṇaṃ guṇamabhidhāya prakṛtamupadarśayannāha-

buddhadharmāgamāṃśena tasmātsattvā jinaiḥ samāḥ|

na tu buddhaiḥ samāḥ kecidanantāṃśairguṇārṇavaiḥ||116||



idamatra bījaṃ samatopādāne ityarthaḥ| paramārthatastu na buddhairbhagavadbhiḥ samāḥ kecit sattvāḥ santi| yadi bhaveyustathāvidhāḥ, tadā te'pi buddhā eva syuḥ| kiṃbhūtaiḥ ? guṇārṇavaiḥ| guṇānāmarṇavā guṇaratnākarāḥ, agādhāpāratvāt, taiḥ| punarapi teṣāmaparameva viśeṣaṇamāha-anantāṃśaiḥ| anantaḥ aparyantaḥ aṃśaḥ, ekadeśo'pi yeṣāṃ guṇārṇavānām, te tathā, taiḥ||



uktamevārthaṃ vyaktīkurvannāha-

guṇasāraikarāśīnāṃ guṇo'ṇurapi cetkvacit|

dṛśyate tasya pūjārthaṃ trailokyamapi na kṣamam||117||



guṇeṣu pradhānānāmekarāśayo ye bhagavantaḥ, teṣāṃ guṇaḥ aṇurapi paramāṇumātro'pi| guṇakaṇikāpīti yāvat| yadi kvacit sattvaviśeṣe dṛśyate pratīyate, tasya tadguṇādhārasya pūjānimittaṃ trailokyamapi na kṣamam| trailokyajātāni ratnādīni na pratirūpāṇīti yāvat||



yadyevam, kathaṃ tarhi sattvārādhanamuktamityāha-

buddhadharmodayāṃśastu śreṣṭhaḥ satveṣu vidyate|

etadaṃśānurūpyeṇa sattvapūjā kṛtā bhavet||118||



vyākhyātametat pūrvam||

ito'pi sattvārādhanamucitamityāha-

kiṃ ca niśchadmabandhūnāmaprameyopakāriṇām|

sattvārādhanamutsṛjya niṣkṛtiḥ kā parā bhavet||119||



niśchadmabandhūnāmakṛtrimasuhṛdāṃ buddhānāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ ca| aparyantopakāriṇāṃ niṣkṛtiḥ tatkṛtāpakārasya niṣkrayaṇaṃ pariśodhanamiti yāvat| kimaparaṃ bhavet sattvārādhanamantareṇa| etadeva paraṃ niṣkrayaṇamityarthaḥ||



prabhucittānukūlavartina eva bhṛtyasya vāñchitaṃ sidhyatītyavagamya sattvārādhanamevopādeyamiti pratipādayannāha-

bhindanti dehaṃ praviśantyavīciṃ

yeṣāṃ kṛte tatra kṛte kṛtaṃ syāt|

mahāpakāriṣvapi tena sarvaṃ

kalyāṇamevācaraṇīyameṣu||120||



karacaraṇaśironayanasvamāṃsāni chittvā chittvā pradattāni yeṣāṃ hitasukhavidhānāya, tathā avīcīmapi paraduḥkhaduḥkhino yeṣāṃ kṛte praviśanti tatsamuddharaṇāya| prakṛtatvād buddhā bodhisattvāḥ| tatra teṣu sattveṣu kṛte kṛtaṃ syāt| anyathā tu kṛtamapi na kṛtaṃ bhavet| kṛtaśabdo'yamiha prakṛtādhikārāt sādhukaraṇe vartate| yenaivam, tena paramāpakāriṣvapi na cittaṃ dūṣayitavyam| kiṃ tu sarvamanekaprakāraṃ kāyavāṅmanobhirvā kalyāṇameva hitasukhameva vidhātavyameteṣu||



uktameva prasādhayannāha-

svayaṃ mama svāmina eva tāvad

yadarthamātmanyapi nirvyapeikṣāḥ|

ahaṃ kathaṃ svāmiṣu teṣu teṣu

karomi mānaṃ na tu dāsabhāvam||121||



mama svāmina eva buddhādayaḥ svayameva ātmanaiva| tāvaditi parāmarśe| yadarthaṃ yeṣāṃ nimittam| ātmanyapi svakāyajīvite'pi| uktakrameṇa nirapekṣā nirabhiṣvaṅgāḥ tṛṇavat parityajanti, tadahaṃ punaḥ teṣāṃ bhṛtyaḥ teṣu sattveṣu prabhuputreṣvatyantapriyeṣu kathaṃ karomi mānam, kimiti jānanneva tān pratikūlayāmi ? na tu dāsabhāvam, na punardāsībhūyārādhayāmi ?



ito'pi ca sattvāpakāraṃ parityajya tadārādhanameva kartavyamityāha-

yeṣāṃ sukhe yānti mudaṃ munīndrāḥ

yeṣāṃ vyathāyāṃ praviśanti manyum|

tattoṣaṇātsarvamunīndratuṣṭi-

statrāpakāre'pakṛtaṃ munīnām||122||



yeṣāṃ sattvānāṃ priyaputrāṇāmiva pitaro munīndrā buddhā bhagavantaḥ sukhe kāyamanojanmani mudaṃ harṣaṃ yānti, yeṣāṃ ca duḥkhe manyuṃ praviśanti aparitoṣamāsādayanti| etacca anibhimatatvād bhagavatāmitthamabhidhīyate, na tu vāṇī (sī ?) candanakalyāṇā(lpava ?)t(?) tacchrāvakāṇāmapi pratighānunayāsaṃbhavaḥ(?)| anyat subodham||



kathaṃ punastatrāpakāre munīnāmapakṛtaṃ syādityatrāha-

ādīptakāyasya yathā samantā-

nna sarvakāmairapi saumanasyam|

sattvavyathāyāmapi tadvadeva

na prītyupāyo'sti dayāmayānām||123||



samantāt sarvāvayavānabhivyāpya vahninā prajvalitaśarīrasya yathā pañcakāmaguṇairna saumanasyam, kāyikamapi sukhaṃ nāsti, tasya prajvalitatvādeva duḥkhenākrāntatvāt, tadvat tathaiva sattvānāṃ vyathāyāṃ duḥkhavedanāyāṃ na prīteḥ saumanasyasya upāyo heturasti kṛpātmakānāṃ bhagavatām||



tasmādaparijñānena kleśagrahāveśavaśena vā sattvāpakārakarmaṇā yadakuśalamupacitam, tadapi idānīmupasaṃhāradvāreṇa vāntīkurvannāha-

tasmānmayā yajjanaduḥkhadena

duḥkhaṃ kṛtaṃ sarvamahākṛpāṇām|

tadadya pāpaṃ pratideśayāmi

yatkheditāstanmunayaḥ kṣamantām||124||



yasmādevaṃ sattvāpakāre munīnāmapakṛtaṃ syāt, tasmāt pāpam adya idānīṃ pratideśayāmi, saṃvegabahulasteṣāmeva mahākṛpāṇāmagrataḥ prakāśayāmi| punarevaṃ saṃprajānanna kariṣyāmi, iti āyatyāṃ saṃvaramāpadye| yadi pratirūpamācaritaṃ tatra me kṣāntiṃ kurvantu anukampāmupādāya||



kṣamayitvā sāṃpratamārādhanāyetyādinā tadekaparāyaṇatāmātmano darśayati-

ārādhanāyādya tathāgatānāṃ

sarvātmanā dāsyamupaimi loke|

kurvantu me mūrdhni padaṃ janaughā

vighnantu vā tuṣyatu lokanāthaḥ||125||



tathāgatānāmabhipretasaṃpādanāya loke lokaviṣaye sarvātmanā kāyena vācā manasā vā dāsībhāvaṃ svīkaromi| te'pi me prasādaṃ kurvanto mastake pādaṃ nidadhatu| teṣāṃ pādaṃ pramuditacittaḥ śirasā dhārayāmi| anena mayi purvāparādhamapāsya jagatāṃ patirbhagavān saṃtuṣṭamānaso bhavatu||



bhagavatsu ca gauravakāribhiḥ sattveṣvanādaro na kartavya iti prasādhayannāha-

ātmīkṛtaṃ sarvamidaṃ jagattaiḥ

kṛpātmabhirnaiva hi saṃśayo'sti|

dṛśyanta ete nanu sattvarūpā-

sta eva nāthāḥ kimanādaro'tra||126||



sarvatragadharmadhātuprativedhāt sarvasattvasamatāpādanaparātmaparivartanādinā vā ātmīkṛtaṃ svīkṛtaṃ sarvamidaṃ jagat, na kiyadeva| tairbuddhairbhagavadbhiḥ karuṇāmayacittasaṃtānaiḥ| suniścitamevaitat| anyathā buddhatvāyogāt| tasmāt sattvarūpeṇa buddhā bhagavanta evaite sattvā dṛśyante| tena kimanādaro'tra mūḍhacetasām ? naiva yukta iti bhāvaḥ||



anekārthatvādapi sattvārādhanasya tatraiva yatitavyamityāha-

tathāgatārādhanametadeva

svārthasya saṃsādhanametadeva|

lokasya duḥkhāpahametadeva

tasmānmamāstu vratametadeva||127||



svārthasya buddhatvasaṃbhāralakṣaṇasyaiva| lokasya duḥkhāpahaṃ taddhetutvāt| etadeveti| sarvatra sattvārādhanamiti yojyam||



āgāmibhayadarśanādapi ca parāpakāravaimukhyameva abhyasanīyamityudāharaṇenopadarśayannāha-

yathaiko rājapuruṣaḥ pramathnāti mahājanam|

vikartuṃ naiva śaknoti dīrghadarśī mahājanaḥ||128||



yasya rājño deśanivāsinaṃ tasyāsau rājapuruṣaḥ| mahājanaṃ nagaranigamagrāmakarvaṭādivāstavyam| pramathnāti vimardayati| sa ca āgāmirājadaṇḍabhayadarśitayā mahājano vacanamātreṇāpi yāvadvikāramupagantumasamarthaḥ| tena tāḍito'pi saṃkucitavṛttirevāsti||



kasmāt ?

yasmānnaiva sa ekākī tasya rājabalaṃ balam|



naiva sa rājapuruṣo'sahāya eva draṣṭavyaḥ| kathaṃ punarayamasahāyo na bhavatītyāha-tasyeti| rājño balameva tasya balam, tatpakṣagrahaṇāt|



tathā na durbalaṃ kaṃcidaparāddhaṃ vimānayet||129||



tasmāt kṛśaśaktimapi kṛtāparādhaṃ nāpakuryāt| so'pi na yasmādekākī||



yasmānnarakapālāśca kṛpāvantaśca tadvalam|

tasmādārādhayetsattvān bhṛtyaścaṇḍanṛpaṃ yathā||130||



tasmādārādhayet sattvān| kutaḥ ? yasmānnarakapālāśca tadapakāramiva pratyapakāriṇo'nvācarantaḥ (?) kṛpāvantaśca jinādayaḥ tatpakṣapātino balam| kathamivārādhayet ? adhṛṣyaṃ rājānaṃ sarvānuvṛttikaraṇānujīvino yathā, tathā||



kiṃ ca| lokaprasiddhita idamevamihoktam, na tu punaḥ sattvāprasaktiphalasya rājāparādhaphalena samānatā samastītyāha-

kupitaḥ kiṃ nṛpaḥ kuryādyena syānnarakavyathā|

yatsattvadaurmanasyena kṛtena hyanubhūyate||131||



kimiti kākvā pṛcchati| kiṃ tadduḥkhajātamutpādayituṃ nṛpatiḥ samartho bhavet ? naiveti bhāvaḥ| kiṃbhūtam ? yena duḥkhajātena nārakī vedanā anubhūyate||



tuṣṭaḥ kiṃ nṛpatirdadyādyadbuddhatvasamaṃ bhavet|

yatsattvasaumanasyena kṛtena hyanubhūyate||132||



āstāṃ bhaviṣyadbuddhatvaṃ sattvārādhanasaṃbhavam|

ihaiva saubhāgyayaśaḥsausthityaṃ kiṃ na paśyasi||133||



prāsādikatvamārogyaṃ prāmodyaṃ cirajīvitam|

cakravartisukhaṃ sphītaṃ kṣamī prāpnoti saṃsaran||134||



iti prajñākaramativiracitāyāṃ bodhicaryāvatārapañjikāyāṃ

kṣāntipāramitā nāma ṣaṣṭhaḥ paricchedaḥ||
