evamātmabhāvādīnāmutsargaṃ rakṣāṃ ca pratipādya punarvistareṇa rakṣāśodhanavardhanāni pratipādayitumupakramate| utpāditabodhicittena hi bodhisattvena utsṛṣṭasyāpi cātmabhāvasya rakṣāśodhanavardhanāni kāryāṇi| yasmāt-



paribhogāya sattvānāmātmabhāvādi dīyate|

arakṣite kuto bhogaḥ kiṃ dattaṃ yanna bhujyate||

tasmātsattvopabhogārthamātmabhāvādi pālayet|

kalyāṇamitrānutsargātsūtrāṇāṃ ca sadekṣaṇāt||

tacca ātmabhāvādiparipālanādi śikṣārakṣaṇādeva syāt| anyathā narakādivinipātagamanāt tanna syāt| ata idamabhidhīyate-



śikṣāṃ rakṣitukāmena cittaṃ rakṣyaṃ prayatnataḥ|

na śikṣā rakṣituṃ śakyā calaṃ cittamarakṣatā||1||



śikṣyate upādīyate gṛhītasaṃvaraṇeneti vihiteṣu karaṇīyatā, pratiṣiddheṣvakaraṇaṃ śikṣā, tāṃ rakṣituṃ paripālayituṃ kāmena icchatā bodhisattvena ātmacittaṃ rakṣitavyaṃ prayatnata iti kathayiṣyamāṇāt| atha śikṣārakṣaṇādhikāre kimiti cittaṃ rakṣyata ityāha-na śikṣeti| anyathā śikṣaiva rakṣitumaśakyā calamanāyattaṃ cittamarakṣatā| cittasya calatāyāṃ śikṣāyāḥ sthairyāyogāt||



ito'pi cittameva rakṣaṇīyamityāha-

adāntā mattamātaṅgā na kurvantīha tāṃ vyathām|

karoti yāmavīcyādau muktaścittamataṅgajaḥ||2||



aparikarmitā mattavaravāraṇā na janayanti tāṃ pīḍāmihaloke| paraloke avīcyādau yāṃ karoti svacchandatayāvasthitaṃ cittameva mataṅgaja eva| tathāgatājñāṅkuśena kathaṃcid vaśīkriyamāṇatvāt|



tasyāyattīkaraṇe guṇamāha-

baddhaśceccittamātaṅgaḥ smṛtirajjvā samantataḥ|

bhayamastaṃgataṃ sarvaṃ kṛtsnaṃ kalyāṇamāgatam||3||



yadi baddhaḥ kathaṃcid bhavet| smṛtirvakṣyamāṇalakṣaṇā| saiva rajjurbandhanopāyatvāt| samantataḥ sarvathā asatpakṣe pracāranirodhāt| tadā bhayamastaṃgataṃ pratyastamitaṃ sarvamaśeṣam| sarvaṃ kalyāṇamabhyudayaniḥśreyasalakṣaṇam| āgataṃ saṃprāptam| devaśced vṛṣṭo niṣpannāḥ śālaya iti yathā ||



nanu bahavaśca mṛgavyālādayo'pyupadravakāriṇaḥ santi, tebhyaḥ kathaṃ cittasya vaśīkaraṇād bhayaṃ na bhaviṣyatītyāha-



vyāghrāḥ siṃhā gajā ṛkṣāḥ sarpāḥ sarve ca śatravaḥ|

sarve narakapālāśca ḍākinyo rākṣasāstathā||4||



sarve baddhā bhavantyete cittasyaikasya bandhanāt|

cittasyaikasya damanāt sarve dāntā bhavanti ca||5||

kutaḥ punarevamityāha-

yasmādbhayāni sarvāṇi duḥkhānyapramitāni ca|

cittādeva bhavantīti kathitaṃ tattvavādinā||6||



sarve hyete karmākṣepavaśādaniṣṭadāyakā bhavanti| karma ca cittameva| cetanā karmeti vacanāt| vākkāyakarmaṇorapi cittameva samutthāpakam| tadantareṇa tayoranutpatteḥ| cetayitvā karmeti vacanāt| tasmāt sarvamiha karmanirmitameva| tacca cittānnānyat| tadāha-



karmajaṃ lokavaicitryaṃ cetanā tatkṛtaṃ ca tat|

cetanā mānasaṃ karma tajje vākkāyakarmaṇī| iti|

na ca anapakāracittasya kecidapakāriṇo nāma| yasmāt-

nivṛttapāpacittasya nāsti loke bhayaṃ dviṣaḥ|

sukhahānirna tasyāsti yasya cittaṃ vaśe sthitam||

ata idamuktam-

cittasya damanaṃ sādhu cittaṃ dāntaṃ sukhāvaham|iti|

tattvavādī bhagavān vastutattvakathanaśīlatvāt| tenedaṃ tattvaṃ kathitaṃ prakāśitam-sarvaṃ cittaprasūtamiti| ataḥ sarvatra cittameva pradhānam||



itthamevaitannānyathā iti prasādhayannāha-

śastrāṇi kena narake ghaṭitāni prayatnataḥ|

taptāyaḥkuṭṭimaṃ kena kuto jātāśca tāḥ striyaḥ||7||



narakapālānāṃ kuntāsimusalādīni, asipatravanasamudbhūtāni vā kena kṛtāni ? na tatra kaścit kartāsti īśvarādiḥ, tatkartṛtvasya anyatra niṣiddhatvāt, ihāpi niṣetsyamānatvāt| taptalohamayī ca bhūmiḥ kena ghaṭitā ? tāśca striyaḥ kutaḥ kāraṇasāmagrīto jātāḥ, yāḥ pāradārikaiḥ śālmalīvṛkṣasya adhastādupari ca dṛśyante? sa ca śālmalirvā

? ato nānyat kāraṇamatra cittādupakalpanīyam| yaduktam-



sattvalokamatha bhājanalokaṃ cittameva racayatyaticitram|

karmajaṃ hi jagaduktamaśeṣaṃ karma cittamavadhūya ca nāsti||iti||

tasmāccittamevātra kāraṇaṃ nānyadityata āha-

pāpacittasamudbhūtaṃ tattatsarvaṃ jagau muniḥ|

tasmānna kaścit trailokye cittādanyo bhayānakaḥ||8||



pāpakarmopaskṛtaṃ cittameva teṣāṃ kāraṇaṃ bhagavān kathitavāt| nāparaṃ kiṃcit| yata evam, tasmānna trijagati pāpacittādaparaḥ kaścid bhayaheturasti| tasmāccittameva vaśīkartavyam| yaduktamāryaratnameghe-



cittapūrvagamāḥ sarvadharmāḥ| citte parijñāte sarvadharmāḥ parijñātā bhavanti||



api ca-

cittena nīyate lokaścittaṃ cittaṃ na paśyati|

cittena cīyate karma śubhaṃ vā yadi vāśubham||



cittaṃ bhramate alātavat| cittaṃ vibhramate taraṃgavat| cittaṃ dahate davāgnivat| cittaṃ rohayate (harate) mahāmbuvat| iti ca||



evaṃ byupaparīkṣamāṇaścitte sūpasthitasmṛtirviharati, na ca cittasya vaśaṃ gacchati| api tu cittamevāsya vaśaṃ gacchati| cittenāsya vaśībhūtena sarve dharmā vaśībhavantīti||



syādetat-dānapāramitādiṣu kathamiva cittaṃ pradhānam ? sā hi sarvasattvānāṃ dāridyāpanayanalakṣaṇetyāha-

adaridraṃ jagatkṛtvā dānapāramitā yadi|

jagaddaridramadyāpi sā kathaṃ pūrvatāyinām||9||



dāridyaṃ hi nāma sāsravasukhabhogabubhukṣayā cittakārpaṇyam upakaraṇavaikalyaṃ vā| tadapanīya jagato yadi dānapāramitāparipūrirbhavatītyucyate, tadā sā katham ? na kathaṃcidapi pūrvatāyināṃ pūrvamabhisaṃbuddhānāṃ bhagavatāṃ yujyate| kutaḥ ? jagaddaridramadyāpi, nādyāpi yāvajjagaddāridyamupaśāmyati||



yadyevaṃ neṣyate, kathaṃ sā bhavatītyāha-

phalena saha sarvasvatyāgacittājjane'khile|

dānapāramitā proktā tasmātsā cittameva tu||10||



sarvasvaṃ bāhyādhyātmikaṃ sarvaṃ vastu dānaṃ dānaphalaṃ ca sarvasattvebhyaḥ parityajato'bhyāsena prakarṣagamanād yadā apagatamātsaryamalaṃ nirāsaṅgatayā cittamutpadyate, tadā dānapāramitāniṣpannetyucyate| tasmāt sā cittameva nānyā dānapāramitā||



śīlapāramitā tu sutarāṃ cittamevetyata āha-

matsyādayaḥ kva nīyantāṃ mārayeyaṃ yato na tān|

labdhe viraticitte tu śīlapāramitā matā||11||



prāṇātipātādisarvāvadyaviraticittameva hi śīlam, na punastadāśrayabhūtabāhyaviṣayanivṛttisvabhāvam| yadi punarvadhādiviṣayavastvabhāvena tadvadhādyabhāvācchīlaṃ syāt, tadā te matsyādayaḥ kva nīyantāṃ yatra teṣāṃ darśanaṃ na syāt ? anyathā tadvadhādyupakrame śīlaṃ na syāt| na caivam| tasmātteṣu vidyamāneṣvapi labdhe viraticitte nivṛttimanasikāre śīlapāramitā matā saṃmatā tatsvabhāvavidām| tasmāt sā cittameva||



kṣāntipāramitāpi na cittādbhinnetyāha-

kiyato mārayiṣyāmi durjanān gaganopamān|

mārite krodhacitte tu māritāḥ sarvaśatravaḥ||12||



parāpakārādisaṃbhave'pi cittasyākopanatā kṣāntiḥ| anyathā yadi sarvaśatrūṇāṃ tadvinipātanena vairaniryātanaṃ kṛtavataḥ kenacidvairābhāvādupaśāntavairasya na kaścidapakārī syāt| iti marṣaṇaṃ kṣāntiḥ| tadā etadaśakyānuṣṭhānam| śatravo hi gaganasamatvādaparyantāḥ| teṣāṃ māraṇamaśakyam| tasmāt krodhādinivṛtticittameva teṣāmupāyena māraṇamiva, tatkṛtāpakārasyāgaṇanāt, janmāntaravairāsaṃbhavācca māritaprāyāste||



atra aśakyatāyāmapyupāyena pravṛttau dṛṣṭāntopadarśanena śakyatāmāha-

bhūmiṃ chādayituṃ sarvāṃ kutaścarma bhaviṣyati|

upānaccarmamātreṇa channā bhavati medinī||13||



kaṇṭakādyupaghātarakṣaṇārthaṃ pṛthvī chādayitumucitā| na caitacchakyam, tāvataścarmaṇo'bhāvāt, bhāve'pi chādanasyāśakyatvāt| upāyena punaḥ śakyam| upānahaścarmaṇā kevalena sarvā bhūmiśchāditā bhavati||



dṛṣṭāntoktamarthaṃ prakṛte yojayannāha-

bāhyā bhāvā mayā tadvacchakyā vārayituṃ na hi|

svacittaṃ vārayiṣyāmi kiṃ mamānyairnivāritaiḥ||14||



śatruprabhṛtayo bhāvā mayā vārayitumaśakyāḥ| tadvat medinīcarmacchādanavat apakārakriyāyāḥ| ataḥ svacittameva śakyaṃ vārayiṣyāmi| anyavāraṇasyāpārthakatvāt, svacittavāraṇādeva tatsiddheḥ| tasmāt sā cittameva||



vīryapāramitā tu kuśalotsāhasvabhāvā ativispaṣṭaṃ cittamevetyāha-

sahāpi vākśarīrābhyāṃ mandavṛtterna tatphalam|

yatpaṭorekakasyāpi cittasya brahmatādikam||15||



vacanakāyasahitasyāpi cittasya kuśalapakṣe mandapracārasya na tādṛśaṃ phalamupajāyate, yādṛśaṃ dhyānādiviṣaye paṭupravṛtterekākino'pi cittasya phalaṃ brahmabhūyādikam| tasmāt sā cittameva||



dhyānaṃ tu cittaikāgratālakṣaṇaṃ cittādanyathā vaktumaśakyamityāha-

japāstapāṃsi sarvāṇi dīrghakālakṛtānyapi|

anyacittena mandena vṛthaivetyāha sarvavit||16||



mantrādyāvartanalakṣaṇā vacanavyāpārā japāḥ| tapāṃsi ca indriyadamanalakṣaṇāḥ kāyikāḥ| tāni atibahukālamabhyastānyapi anyatra saktacittena middhādyupahatacittena vā| samānapāṭavavikalenetyarthaḥ| vṛthaiva niṣphalameva, atyarthakṛśaphalatvāt, abhimatārthe'nupayogādvā| putro'pyaputra eva, putrakāryākaraṇādyathā| ityāha bhagavān sarvajñaḥ| tasmād dhyānapāramitāpi cittameva||



prajñā tu nirvivādā cittamevetyāha-

duḥkhaṃ hantuṃ sukhaṃ prāptuṃ te bhramanti mudhāmbare|

yairetaddharmasarvasvaṃ cittaṃ guhyaṃ na bhāvitam||17||



pañcagatisaṃsārajātyādiduḥkhaṃ prahātuṃ tatprahāṇe nirvāṇasukhamadhigantuṃ te sattvā mudhā nirarthakā eva bhramanti ambare kāsīpuṣpamiva niṣphalaṃ saṃsāre| yadanuṣṭhitaṃ kvacidapi na lagnamiti tadevamamidhīyate pañcāgnisevāśiroluñcanādivratam| ke punarevaṃ bhramanti ? yaiḥ saṃsārabhayabhīrubhiḥ sukhārthibhiśca dharmasarvasvaṃ sarvalaukikalokottarakarmanidānabhūtaṃ cittaṃ bālānāmagocarasvabhāvatayā guhyaṃ na bhāvitaṃ tattvacittatayā punaḥ punaḥ sthirīkṛtam| tasmādiyamatitarāṃ cittameva| yathopavarṇitamāryagaṇḍabyūhe-



svacittādhiṣṭhānaṃ sarvabodhisattvacaryā| svacittādhiṣṭhānaṃ sarvasattvaparipākavinayaḥ| peyālaṃ| tasya mama kulaputra evaṃ bhavati-svacittamevopastambhayitavyaṃ sarvakuśalamūlaiḥ| svacittameva parisyandayitavyaṃ dharmameghaiḥ| svacittameva pariśodhayitavyamāvaraṇīyadharmebhyaḥ| svacittameva dṛḍhīkartavyaṃ vīryeṇa| ityādi||



iti cittasvabhāvatāṃ sarvatra pratipādya upasaṃharannāha-

tasmātsvadhiṣṭhitaṃ cittaṃ mayā kāryaṃ surakṣitam|

cittarakṣāvrataṃ mukttvā bahubhiḥ kiṃ mama vrataiḥ||18||



evamutpāditabodhicittena śikṣārakṣaṇe yatnavatā manasi kartavyam-svadhiṣṭhitaṃ smṛtyā surakṣitaṃ saṃprajanyena vakṣyamāṇarītyā mayā svacittaṃ kartavyaṃ tadekāgramānasena| atraiva sarveṣāmantarbhāvāt| ataścittarakṣaṇameva pradhānaṃ vratam| tadvihāya kimanyairvratairbahubhirapi mama prayojanam ? na kiṃcit| tadrahitasya niṣphalatvāt| etāvatī ceyaṃ bodhisattvaśikṣā yaduta cittaparikarma| etanmūlatvāt sarvasattvārthānām| tadyathā dharmasaṃgītisūtre kīrtitam-



mativikramabodhisattva āha-yo'yaṃ dharmo dharma ityucyate, nāyaṃ dharmo deśastho na pradeśastho'nyatra svacittādhīno dharmaḥ| tasmānmayā svacittaṃ svārādhitaṃ svadhiṣṭhitaṃ suparijitaṃ susamārabdhaṃ sunigṛhītaṃ kartavyam| tatkasya hetoḥ ? yatra cittaṃ tatra guṇadoṣāḥ| tadbodhisattvo doṣebhyaścittaṃ nivārya guṇeṣu pravartayati| taducyate-cittādhīno dharmaḥ, dharmādhīnā bodhiriti||



evaṃ cittāyattatāṃ sarvatra niścitya cittadṛḍhatāyāmudāharaṇamāha-

yathā capalamadhyastho rakṣati vraṇamādarāt|

evaṃ durjanamadhyastho rakṣeccittavraṇaṃ sadā||19||



asamāhitajanamadhye punarupaghātabhayāttadgatamanasā yathā vraṇaṃ rakṣati kaścidapramattaḥ, evaṃ tathā śikṣārakṣaṇakāmaḥ akāraṇavairibālajanamadhye saṃvasan tatparaścittaṃ vraṇamiva rakṣet sarvakālam||



yathāprasiddhita idamudāharaṇam| na tu punarmanāgapi sādṛśyamastītyāha-

vraṇaduḥkhalavādbhīto rakṣāmi vraṇamādarāt|

saṃghātaparvatāghātādbhītaścittavraṇaṃ na kim||20||



īṣanmātraṃ duḥkhaṃ duḥkhalavo vraṇakṛtaḥ| tasmādbhīto rakṣāmi vraṇam| prakṛtānurodhe rakṣatīti pāṭho yuktaḥ| ādarāt tātparyeṇa| saṃghātanarakaprabhavādanekavarṣasahasrānubhūyamānaduḥkhāt parvatāghātātsarvato vyāptiprahārāt bhītaḥ cittavraṇaṃ na kiṃ rakṣediti prakṛtena saṃbandhaḥ| yadi vā| ahaṃ tu kiṃ na rakṣāmīti pariṇāmena yojanīyam| athavā| evamutpāditabodhicittena manasā cintayitavyamityavatāryate| tadā rakṣāmīti||



kaḥ punarevaṃ sati guṇaḥ syādityāha-

anena hi vihāreṇa viharan durjaneṣvapi|

pramadājanamadhye'pi yatirdhīro na khaṇḍayate||21||



yasmādevaṃmanasikāreṇa vicaran vanitājanamadhye'pi prāsādapṛṣṭhe ayamanivāryo'tiśayena kāmarāgeṣu| tenedamuktaṃ yatirdhīra iti| asmin manasikāre nidhyaptacittaḥ| na khaṇḍayate śikṣārakṣaṇamanasikārānna skhalati||



punarevaṃ karaṇīyamityatrārthe dṛḍhamabhiniveśaṃ darśayannāha-

lābhā naśyantu me kāmaṃ satkāraḥ kāyajīvitam|

naśyatvanyacca kuśalaṃ mā tu cittaṃ kadācana||22||



civarapiṇḍapātādayo naśyantu, vilayaṃ yāntu mama kāmaṃ yatheṣṭam| satkāro gauraveṇa āsanadānapādavandanādipūjā| kāyo jīvitaṃ ca sarvametannaśyatu| anyadapi yatkiṃcit sukhasaumanasyanimittaṃ tadapi naśyatu| kuśalaṃ punarmama cittaṃ mā kasmiṃścidapi kāle naṅkṣīditi||



atra punarādaramutpādayituṃ śāstrakāra āha-

cittaṃ rakṣitukāmānāṃ mayaiṣa kriyate'ñjaliḥ|

smṛtiṃ ca saṃprajanyaṃ ca sarvayatnena rakṣata||23||



añjaliṃ kṛtvā prārthayāmi| kimartham ? smṛtiṃ ca saṃprajanyaṃ ca| na kevalāṃ smṛtim, nāpi kevalaṃ saṃprajanyamiti parasparāpekṣayā cakāradvayam| tatra smṛtirāryaratnacūḍasūtre'bhihitā-



yayā smṛtyā sarvakleśānāṃ prādurbhāvo na bhavati| yayā smṛtyā sarvamārakarmaṇāmavatāraṃ na dadāti| yayā smṛtyā utpathe kumārge vā na patati| yayā smṛtyā dauvārikabhūtayā sarveṣāmakuśalānāṃ cittacaitasikānāṃ dharmāṇāmavakāśaṃ na dadāti, iyamucyate samyaksmṛtiriti||



saṃkṣepataḥ punariyaṃ smṛtirucyate-vihitapratiṣiddhayoryathāyogaṃ smaraṇaṃ smṛtiḥ| yaccāhasmṛtirālambanāsaṃpramoṣa iti||



saṃprajanyaṃ tu prajñāpāramitāyāmuktam-



caraṃścarāmīti prajānāti| sthitaḥ sthito'smīti prajānāti| niṣaṇṇo niṣaṇṇo'smīti prajānāti| śayānaḥ śayito'smīti prajānāti| yathā yathāsya kāyaḥ sthito bhavati tathā tathainaṃ prajānāti| peyālaṃ| so'tikrāman vā pratikrāman vā saṃprajānacārī bhavati| ālokite vilokite saṃmiñjite prasārite saṃghāṭīpaṭapātracīvaradhāraṇe aśite pīte khādite nidrāklamaprativinodane āgate gate sthite niṣaṇṇe supte jāgarite bhāṣite tūṣṇībhāve pratisaṃlayane saṃprajānacārī bhavatīti||



idameva vakṣyati-

etadeva samāsena saṃprajanyasya lakṣaṇam|

yatkāyacittovakṣāyāḥ pratyavekṣā muhurmuhuḥ||iti||



kaḥ punaranayorvyatireke doṣaḥ, yenaite yatnena rakṣaṇīye kathite ityāha-

vyādhyākulo naro yadvanna kṣamaḥ sarvakarmasu|

tathābhyāṃ vikalaṃ cittaṃ na kṣamaṃ sarvakarmasu||24||



rogopahatasāmarthyo yathā puruṣaḥ sarvakarmasu gamanabhojanādiṣu akarmaṇyo bhavati, tathā smṛtisaṃprajanyābhyāṃ vikalaṃ cittaṃ sarvakarmasu dhyānādhyayanādilakṣaṇeṣu||



anayoḥ samudāyābhāve doṣamuktvā pratyekamabhāve kathayitumāha-

asaṃprajanyacittasya śrutacintitabhāvitam|

sacchidrakumbhajalavanna smṛtāvavatiṣṭhate||25||



na vidyate saṃprajanyaṃ yasmiṃstadasaṃprajanyam| taccittaṃ yasya tasya| śrutacintābhāvanāmayaprajñāpariniṣṭhitaṃ vastu na smaraṇamadhivasati| tanmūlaṃ ca sarvaṃ kalyāṇam| kimiva ? yathā sacchidrakumbhe mukhanikśiptamudakamadhastādgacchati nāvatiṣṭhate||



idamaparaṃ tadvayatireke dūṣaṇamāha-

aneke śrutavanto'pi śrāddhā yatnaparā api|

asaṃprajanyadoṣeṇa bhavantyāpattikaśmalāḥ||26||



bahavo'pi bahuśrutāḥ tathā śraddhāvanto yatnaparāḥ śikṣāyāmādarakāriṇaḥ asaṃprajanyadoṣeṇa āpattikaluṣitā bhavanti kāyacittapracārāpratyavekṣaṇāt||



aparamapi tadabhāve dūṣaṇamāha-

asaṃprajanyacaureṇa smṛtimoṣānusāriṇā|

upacityāpi puṇyāni muṣitā yānti durgatim||27||



asaṃprajanyameva saṃprajanyābhāvaḥ kleśasvabhāvaścauraḥ kuśaladhanāpaharaṇāt| tena smṛtimoṣānusāriṇā rakṣapālabhūtāyāḥ smṛteḥ pramoṣamabhāvamanusṛtya muṣitā viluptakuśaladhanāḥ santaḥ upacityāpi puṇyāni, kuśaladhanānāṃ saṃcayaṃ kṛtvāpi, durgatiparāyaṇā bhavanti||



kutaḥ punarevamiti uktamevārthaṃ spaṣṭayannāha-

kleśataskarasaṃgho'yamavatāragaveṣakaḥ|

prāpyāvatāraṃ muṣṇāti hanti sadgatijīvitam||28||



taskarāścaurāḥ teṣāṃ saṃghātaḥ avatāragaveṣakaḥ piśācavadavatāramārgaprekṣī| chidrānveṣaṇatatpara ityarthaḥ| prāpyāvatāraṃ praveśamārgamāsādya muṣṇāti| tato hanti śobhanagataye jīvitapratilambhaṃ kuśalapātheyābhāvāt||



smṛtimadhikṛtyādhunā prāha-

tasmātsmṛtirmanodvārānnāpaneyā kadācana|

gatāpi pratyupasthāpyā saṃsmṛtyāpāyikīṃ vyathām||29||



yataḥ smṛterabhāve dūṣaṇamevaṃ syāt, tasmādidamatra doṣaṃ paśyatā smṛtirālabamnāsaṃpramoṣalakṣaṇā manodvārāt manogṛhapraveśamārgāt nāpaneyā nāpasāryā| sadā avasthāpayitavyetyarthaḥ| atha kadācit pramādatastato'pagacchet, tadā gatāpi punarnirvartyopasthāpyā tatraivāropayitavyā| katham ? saṃsmṛtya manasi nidhāya āpāyikīṃ narakādidurgativyathām||



tatra dvādaśemāḥ smṛtayo niṣphalaspandavarjanārthaṃ tathāgatājñānatikramānupālanavipākagauravasmṛtiprabhṛtayaḥ śikṣāsamuccaye pradarśitāḥ, tata eva vivekenāvadhāryāḥ||



sāpi smṛtistībrādarātsamutpadyate| ādaro'pi śamathamāhātmyamavagamya ātāpena jāyate| etacca yathāvasaraṃ vakṣyāmaḥ||



keṣāṃcit punaranyathāpi smṛtirutpadyate| tadupadarśayannāha-

upādhyāyānuśāsanyā bhītyāpyādarakāriṇām|

dhanyānāṃ gurusaṃvāsātsukaraṃ jāyate smṛtiḥ||30||



ācāryopādhyāyasaṃnidhau tadanyatamārādhyabrahmacārisaṃnidhau vā saṃvasatāṃ tadanuśāsanyā, bhītya tadbhayenāpi ādaraḥ kāryeṣu sarvabhāvenābhimukhyam, avajñāpratipakṣo dharmaḥ| tatkāriṇāṃ yatnavatāṃ sukṛtināṃ tadanuśāsanīṃ hitāhitavidhipratiṣedhaniyamamanugṛhṇatāmakṛcchreṇaiva smṛtirutpadyate||



itthamapi viharan smṛtimanasikārabahulavihārī bhavatīti kārikādvayena darśayannāha-

buddhāśca bodhisattvāśca sarvatrāvyāhatekṣaṇāḥ|

sarvamevāgratasteṣāṃ teṣāmasmi puraḥ sthitaḥ||31||



iti dhyātvā tathā tiṣṭhet trapādarabhayānvitaḥ|

buddhānusmṛtirapyevaṃ bhavettasya muhurmuhuḥ||32||



sarvadā buddhabodhisattvānāṃ samastavastuviṣayāpratihatajñānacakṣuṣāṃ sarvameva vastujātaṃ purato'vasthitameva| ahamapi teṣāṃ puro'vasthita eva, sarvavastuvat| iti manasi nidhāya tathaiva saṃyatātmā tiṣṭhet| trapādarabhayānvitaḥ| apratirūpe karmaṇi trapā lajjā| śikṣāyāmādaraḥ, tadatikrame bhayam| buddhabodhisattveṣveva vā trapādayaḥ| evaṃ sati aparo'pi viśeṣaḥ syādityāha-buddhetyādi| tadevaṃ viharatastasya pratikṣaṇamakāmata eva buddhānusmṛtiḥ syāt||



saṃprajanyasya utpattisthairyayoḥ smṛtireva kāraṇamiti kathayannāha-

saṃprajanyaṃ tadāyāti na ca yātyāgataṃ punaḥ|

smṛtiryadā manodvāre rakṣārthamavatiṣṭhate||33||



yadā smṛtirmanogṛhadvāri kleśataskarasaṃghātānupraveśanivāriṇī dauvārikavadavasthitā bhavati, tadā saṃprajanyamayatnata evotpadyate, utpannaṃ ca sat sthirībhavati||



evaṃ tāvadanayoranvayavyatirekābhyāṃ guṇadoṣāvabhidhāya anarthavivarjanārthaṃ niṣphalaspandavarjanamāha-



pūrvaṃ tāvadidaṃ cittaṃ sadopasthāpyamīdṛśam|

nirindriyeṇeva mayā sthātavyaṃ kāṣṭhavatsadā||34||



prathamaṃ tāvat idaṃ cittamityadhyātmani cintayati-sarvakālamīdṛśamuktakramayuktamupasthāpayitavyam| tataḥ paraṃ niṣphalaspandavarjanārthamapagatakaraṇagrāmeṇeva niṣphalarūpādiviṣayagrahaṇasarvavikalpopasaṃhārāt mayā sthātavyam| kimiva ? kāṣṭhavat, cakṣurādivyāpāraśūnyatvāt||



idameva vyanakti-

niṣphalā netravikṣepā na kartavyāḥ kadācana|

nidhyāyantīva satataṃ kāryā dṛṣṭiradhogatā||35||



īṣanmukulitapakṣmayugalā nāsāgraviniveśitā yugamātravyavalokinī vā kāryā dṛṣṭiḥ||

prathamārambhiṇaḥ saṃtatābhyāsena kleśasya parihārārthamāha-



dṛṣṭiviśrāmahetostu diśaḥ paśyetkadācana|

ābhāsamātraṃ dṛṣṭvā ca svāgatārthaṃ vilokayet||36||



dṛṣṭicittaparikhedaparityāgāya kadācit karhicit diśo vyavalokayet| atha kadācit kaścit tatsamīpamāgacchet, tadā tasya praticchāyāmātraṃ viditvā svāgatavādena saṃtoṣaṇārthaṃ vilokayet| anyathā tatra tasya avadhyānena akuśalaṃ prasavet||



mārge'pi tathādṛṣṭergacchata upaghātaparihārārthamāha-

mārgādau bhayabodhārthaṃ muhuḥ paśyeccaturdiśam|

diśo viśramya vīkṣeta parāvṛtyaiva pṛṣṭhataḥ||37||



bhayahetucaurādipratipattyarthaṃ caturdiśamiti krameṇa| anyathā ātmabhāvasya rakṣā kṛtā na syāt| sarvadigvyavalokanaṃ tu kriyamāṇamauddhatyopaghātaparihārārthaṃ sthitvā kartavyam| pṛṣṭhato vyavalokanaṃ parāvṛtya paścānmukhībhūya||



asamādhānasya ca rakṣaṇāmāha-

saredapasaredvāpi puraḥ paścānnirūpya ca|

evaṃ sarvāsvavasthāsu kāryaṃ buddhvā samācaret||38||



saretpuraḥ apasaretpaścāt| prapātādyupaghātaṃ nirīkṣya ca| evamityuktakramadiśā svaparahitaprayojanamavagamya pratipattisāro bhavet||



idānīṃ saṃprajanyakāritāṃ śikṣayitumāha-

kāyenaivamavastheyamityākṣipya kriyāṃ punaḥ|

kathaṃ kāyaḥ sthita iti draṣṭavyaṃ punarantarā||39||



caturṇāmīryāpathānāmanyatamasminnīryāpathe| kāyenaivamiti sthitena niṣaṇṇena vā avastheyamiti| tadanantaraṃ svādhyāyādikriyāmārabhya punarantarāle vyavalokitavyaṃ kathaṃ kāyaḥ sthita iti tasminneveryāpathe, uta bhinne īryāpathe| bhinne punaḥ pūrvavadavasthāpyaḥ||



kāyapratyavekṣāmabhidhāya cittapratyavekṣaṇāmāha-

nirūpyaḥ sarvayatnena cittamattadvipastathā|

dharmacintāmahāstambhe yathā vaddho na mucyate||40||



dharmasya svaparahitalakṣaṇasya cintaiva mahāstambho vandhanāyattīkaraṇahetutvāt||

tasmin baddho'pi punaḥ punarnirūpaṇīya ityāha-

kutra me vartata iti pratyavekṣyaṃ tathā manaḥ|

samādhānadhuraṃ naiva kṣaṇamapyutsṛjedyathā||41||



kva punaridaṃ mano mama vartate, pūrvasminnālambane anyatra vā gatam| gatamavagamya tato nirvatya tatraiva yojayitavyam| svarasavāhitāyāmupekṣaṇīyam| iti śamathadhuramekamapi kṣaṇaṃ yathā na parityajati tathā dhārayitavyam| etāvatā śīlaṃ hi samādhisaṃvartanīmamityuktaṃ bhavati| yathoktaṃ candrapradīpasūtre-



kṣipraṃ samādhiṃ labhate niraṅgaṇaṃ

viśuddhaśīlasyimi ānuśaṃsāḥ|| iti|

ato'vagamyate-ye kecit samādhihetavaḥ prayogāḥ, te śīle'nugatā iti| tasmāt samādhyarthinā smṛtisaṃprajanyaśīlena bhavitavyam| tathā śīlārthināpi samādhau yatnaḥ kārya iti||



samādhānaparityāgāvakāśamāha-

bhayotsavādisaṃbandhe yadyaśakto yathāsukham|

dānakāle tu śīlasya yasmāduktamupekṣaṇam||42||



agnidāhādi bhayam| tathā ratnatrayapūjādikṛta utsavaḥ| samadhikataraḥ sattvārthādirvā| tatsaṃbhave yadi sthātumaśaktaḥ, tadā kāmacāra ityanujñātam| sāpattiko na bhavatītyarthaḥ| kutaḥ punarayamaniyamo labhyata ityāha-dānetyādi| śīlaṃ yadyapi dānātprakṛṣṭam, tathāpi avaraśikṣāyāṃ śikṣamāṇasya tadanantarameva uttaraśikṣāvasthitasya abhyāsapāṭavābhāvāt kathaṃcit tāvatkālaṃ tato nivartamānasyāpi nāpattiḥ| dānasyāsau kālo na śīlasya| ata evoktam-yadyaśakta iti| etāvanmātreṇedamudāharaṇam| yathoktam-tatraikasyāṃ śikṣāyāṃ niṣpādyamānāyāmaśaktasya itaraśikṣānabhyāsādanāpattiḥ| āryākṣayamatisūtre'pyevamavocat-



dānakāle śīlopasaṃhārasyopekṣā| iti| na cātaḥ śithilena bhavitavyam||

yatra kuśalapakṣasaṃcāre'pi kvacit samādhānavighātaḥ syāt, tannopādeyamityāha-

yad buddhvā kartumārabdhaṃ tato'nyanna vicintayet|

tadeva tāvanniṣpādyaṃ tadgatenāntarātmanā||43||



svayameva tu yuktyāgamābhyāṃ kalyāṇamitravacanādvā yathābalamavadhārya yatkiṃcitkarma kartumārabdhaṃ dhyānādhyayanādikam, prathamatastadeva tāvanniṣpattiṃ neyaṃ tannimnena cetasā, na punastadaniṣpannameva parityajya paramārambhaṇīyam||



kiṃ punarevaṃ syādyadi na syādityāha-

evaṃ hi sukṛtaṃ sarvamanyathā nobhayaṃ bhavet|

asaṃprajanyakleśo'pi vṛddhiṃ caivaṃ gamiṣyati||44||



yasmādevamanutiṣṭhataḥ sarvaṃ suśliṣṭaṃ kṛtaṃ syāt| tadviparyaye punarduḥśliṣṭamubhayaṃ pūrvaṃ cāttaṃ paścāt svīkṛtaṃ ca syāt| calapravṛtterasaṃprajanyaṃ syāt| praveśe vṛddhiḥ syāt||



itthamapi niṣphalaṃ varjayedityāha-

nānāvidhapralāpeṣu vartamāneṣvanekadhā|

kautūhaleṣu sarveṣu hanyādautsukyamāgatam||45||



anekaprakāre'saṃbaddhābhidhāne'paropādhike pravartamāne āścaryavastuṣu ca samasteṣu svayamapi tatkriyāyāṃ darśanaśravaṇāya vākūcittasya tāratamyaṃ nivārayet||



aparamapi niṣphalavarjanāya prātimokṣoddiṣṭamācaret ityāha-

mṛnmardanatṝṇacchedarekhādyaphalamāgatam|

smṛtvā tāthāgatīṃ śikṣāṃ bhītastatkṣaṇamutsṛjet||46||



bhūmiphalakādiṣu nakhadaṇḍādinā rekhākarṣaṇalekhanādi niṣprayojanamāgatamāpatitaṃ vivarjayet bhagavatā atra nivṛttirājñapteti saṃsmṛtya, tadatikramavipākaphalabhayāt| tatkṣaṇamiti na tatra kālaparilambhaṃ kuryāt||



saṃkleśasamudācāre saṃprajanyakāritāṃ yadetyādibhiḥ saptabhiḥ ślokaiḥ śikṣayitumāha-

yadā calitukāmaḥ syādvaktukāmo'pi vā bhavet|

svacittaṃ pratyavekṣyādau kuryāddhairyeṇa yuktimat||47||



prathamata eva svacittaṃ nirūpya| uktam (?) asaṃkliṣṭāvasthāyāṃ karaṇīyamuktam||

etadeva darśayati-

anunītaṃ pratihataṃ yadā paśyetsvakaṃ manaḥ|

na kartavyaṃ na vaktavyaṃ sthātavyaṃ kāṣṭhavattadā||48||



raktaṃ dviṣṭaṃ vā svacittaṃ yadā paśyet, tadā hastapādādicalanamātramapi na kartavyam, nāpi vacanodīraṇam| anyathā tadutthāpite kāyavāgvijñaptī api saṃkliṣṭe syātām| ato bahirindriyavyāpāravikalpāvupasaṃhṛtya sthātavyaṃ kāṣṭhavattadā| sarvavyāpāravirahānnirvyāpārāḥ sarvadharmā iti manasi nidhāya||



aparamāha-

uddhataṃ sopahāsaṃ vā yadā mānamadānvitam|

sotprāsātiśayaṃ vakraṃ vañcakaṃ ca mano bhavet||49||



uddhatamiti| saddharmādiśravaṇapramādādapi uddhatam| vikṣepabahulamityarthaḥ| sopahāsaṃ vāgviheṭhanārambhakam, tayā yuktaṃ vā| mānaścittasyonnatiḥ| madaḥ svadharme (?) cittasyābhiniveśaḥ| tābhyāmanvitaṃ tatsaṃprayuktam| utprāsaḥ kāyikī viheṭhanā, tena sahotkaṭam| vakraṃ kuṭilaṃ śaṭhaṃ vā| vañcakaṃ pratārakaṃ māyāvi vā| yadi mano bhavet, sthātavyaṃ kāṣṭhavattadeti saṃbandhaḥ||



yadātmotkarṣaṇābhāsaṃ parapaṃsanameva vā|

sādhikṣepaṃ sasaṃrambhaṃ sthātavyaṃ kāṣṭhavattadā||50||



ātmotkarṣaṇaṃ svaguṇātiśayaprakāśanam| tadābhāsaṃ tatpratibhāsaṃ tadvikalpanāt| parapaṃsanaṃ paravigrahaḥ doṣāviṣkaraṇaṃ vā, tadyuktam| adhikṣepaḥ parasya vacanatiraskāraḥ| saṃrambhaḥ sadākalivivādanimittacittapradoṣaḥ| ubhayatra saha tena vartata iti vigrahaḥ| evaṃ yadā paśyetsvakaṃ manaḥ, sthātavyaṃ kāṣṭhavat tadeti sāmānyoktamabhisaṃbadhyate||



lābhasatkārakīrtyarthi parivārārthi vā punaḥ|

upasthānārthi me cittaṃ tasmāttiṣṭhāmi kāṣṭhavat||51||



kīrtiryaśaḥ| parivāraḥ dāsīdāsakarmakarādiḥ| upasthānaṃ pādadhāvanamardanādi| ebhirarthi tadabhilāṣaṃ mama cittam| tasmāttiṣṭhāmi kāṣṭhavat||



parārtharūkṣaṃ svārthārthi pariṣatkāmameva vā|

vaktumicchati me cittaṃ tasmāttiṣṭhāmi kāṣṭhavat||52||



parārtharūkṣaṃ parārthavimukham| svārthārthi svārthābhiniviṣṭam| pariṣat śiṣyāntevāsiprabhṛtijanasamājaḥ| tadabhilāṣi tatparivārārthi||



asahiṣṇvalasaṃ bhītaṃ pragalbhaṃ mukharaṃ tathā|

svapakṣābhiniviṣṭaṃ ca tasmāttiṣṭhāmi kāṣṭhavat||53||



asahiṣṇu asahanaśīlam| alasaṃ kriyāsu akarmaṇyam| kusīdamityarthaḥ| bhītaṃ kāyajīvitabhīru bhayahetubhyo vā| pragalbhaṃ dhṛṣṭam| mukharaṃ durvacaskam, yuktāyuktamanapekṣya abhidhāyakaṃ vā| svapakṣeḥ śiṣyāntevāsijñātisālohitādau abhiniviṣṭaṃ pakṣapātātiśayavat||



sāṃprataṃ pratikāranirdeśamāha-

evaṃ saṃkliṣṭamālokya niṣphalārambhi vā manaḥ|

nigṛhṇīyād dṛḍhaṃ śūraḥ pratipakṣeṇa tatsadā||54||



upadarśitakrameṇa saṃkliṣṭaṃ saṃkleśasaṃprayuktaṃ niṣphalavyāpāraṃ vā jñātvā svacittaṃ sarvapravṛttinigedhena prabhāvamandatāṃ vidhāya nigṛhṇīyādabhibhavet| dṛḍhaṃ yathā punarapi samudācāradharmakaṃ na bhavati| kleśādisaṃgrāme vijayāya kṛtaparikaraḥ śuro bodhisattvaḥ| pratipakṣeṇa yo yasmin pratipakṣa uktaḥ yathā rāgādāvaśubhādi, tena tadviparītavidhānenetyarthaḥ| sadā sarvakālam, yadā yadā saṃkliṣṭaṃ pratīyate| ugraparipṛcchāyāṃ gṛhiṇaṃ bodhisattvamadhikṛtyoktam-



tena surāmaireyamadyapramādasthānāt prativiratena bhavitavyam, amattena anunmattena acapalena acañcalena abhrāntena amukhareṇa anunnatena upasthitasmṛtināsasaṃprajanyena| iti||



atraiva ca pravrajitaṃ bodhisattvamadhikṛtyoktam-smṛti saṃprajanyasyāvikṣepaḥ| iti||



tathā āryatathāgataguhyasūtre darśitam-



na khalu punaḥ kulaputra bodhisattvasya vāg raktā vā duṣṭā vā mūḍhā vā kliṣṭā vā kṣaṇavyākaraṇī vā svapakṣotkarṣaṇavacanā vā parapakṣanigrahavacanā vā ātmavarṇānunayavacanā vā paravarṇapratighātavacanā vā pratijñottāraṇavacanā vā ābhimānikavyākaraṇavacanā veti||



evaṃ niṣphalaspandavarjanena anarthādātmabhāvasya rakṣā pratipāditā bhavati| tasmānmayā śīlasusthitena aprakampena aśithilena bhavitavyamiti||



etacca samāhitacittasya sidhyati| ata idaṃ śamathamāhātmyamavagamya tātparyeṇa bhāvayitavyam| anena tīvra ādaro bhavati śikśāsu| tenāpi smṛtirupatiṣṭhate| upasthitasmṛtirniṣphalaṃ varjayati| tasya anarthā na saṃbhavanti| tasmādātmabhāvaṃ rakṣitukāmena smṛtimūlamanviṣya nityamupasthitasmṛtinā bhavitavyam| etadevāha-



tatrātmabhāve kā rakṣā yadanarthavivarjanam|

kena tallabhyate sarve niṣphalaspandavarjanāt||

etatsidhyetsadā smṛtyā smṛtistīvrādarādbhavet|

ādaraḥ śamamāhātmyaṃ jñātvātāpena jāyate||iti|

śamathamāhātmyaṃ tu yathāvasaramihaiva kathayiṣyate||

ayamatra piṇḍārthaḥ anarthavivarjanārthamavadhārayitavya iti vṛttatritayenopadarśayannāha-



suniścitaṃ suprasannaṃ dhīraṃ sādaragauravam|

salajjaṃ sabhayaṃ śāntaṃ parārādhanatatparam||55||



parasparaviruddhābhirbālecchābhirakheditam|

kleśotpādādidaṃ hyetadeṣāmiti dayānvitam||56||



ātmasattvavaśaṃ nityamanavadyeṣu vastuṣu|

nirmāṇamiva nirmānaṃ dhārayāmyeṣa mānasam||57||



suniścitaṃ saṃdehaviparyāsarahitam| suprasannaṃ sadā prītisaumanasyabahulam| dhīramacañcalam| ādaraḥ kathita eva| gauravaṃ ārādhyeṣu cittasya namratā| tābhyāṃ saha vartate| salajjaṃ pūrvavat| sabhayaṃ skhalita[mālokya] bhītam| śāntaṃ saṃyatendriyam| sattvārādhanayatnavat||



yadekasya rucijanakaṃ tadanyasya viparītam| anyonyaviruddhābhiḥ pṛthagjanecchābhirakheditamavipratisāri| katham ? dayānvitam| hetupadametat| kutaḥ ? yasmāt kleśotpādānna svātantryādidametat parasparaviruddhacaritameṣāṃ bālānāmiti matvā||



ātmasattvavaśaṃ svaparāyattaṃ sarvakālam| kiṃ sarvatra ? na| anavadyeṣu vastuṣu ubhayasāvadyaśūnyeṣu| kiṃvat ? nirmāṇamiva nirmitavat| vigatamānaṃ mānasaṃ dhārayāmi| eṣo'hamiti bodhisattvo manasi niveśayet||



asmādapi saṃvegamanasikārāccittasyānarthavivarjanena rakṣā vidhātavyetyāha-

cirātprāptaṃ kṣaṇavaraṃ smṛtvā smṛtvā muhurmuhuḥ|

dhārayāmīdṛśaṃ cittamaprakampyaṃ sumeruvat||58||



aticireṇa kālena labdham uktaṃ kṣaṇavaraṃ smaraṇena cetasi kṛtvā punaḥ punarantaraṃ sthirīkaromi īdṛśamuktasvabhāvam| aprakampyaṃ kampayitumaśakyaṃ kāmādivitarkapavanaiḥ parvatarājavat||



evametābhyāṃ śīlasamādhibhyāmanyonyasaṃvardhakābhyāṃ cittakarmapariniṣpattiḥ| tasmādavasthitametat-cittaparikarmaiva bodhisattvaśikṣā iti| tena yaduktam-



cittarakṣāvrataṃ muktvā bahubhiḥ kiṃ mama vrataiḥ|

iti, tat pariniṣṭhitam||



punastadekāntamavadhārayituṃ kāyapratyavekṣāmāha-

gṛdhrairāmiṣasaṃgṛddhaiḥ kṛṣyamāṇa itastataḥ|

na karotyanyathā kāyaḥ kasmādatra pratikriyām||59||



kāyasya sarvathā kvacidapi vyāpāro nāsti, svātmanyapi sāmarthyābhāvāt| anyathā cittarahito mṛtasya kāyaḥ | gṛdhrādibhirvipralujyamāna itastataḥ pratikāramātmarakṣaṇārthaṃ kimiti na karotīti pṛcchati sarvasāmarthyavikalatvāt| ata eva cittaparikarmaiva sādhyam| tasmin parikarmite kāyasya ayatnata eva parikarmasiddheḥ, tatparatantratvāttasyetyuktaṃ bhavati||



evaṃ sarvathānupayogini kāye sāpekṣatāṃ nirasyannāha-

rakṣasīmaṃ manaḥ kasmādātmīkṛtya samucchrayam|

tvattaścetpṛthagevāyaṃ tenātra tava ko vyayaḥ||60||



he manaḥ, anātmakameva ātmatvena svīkṛtya māṃsāsthipuñjaṃ kāyasaṃjñakaṃ kasmātkāraṇāt tvaṃ rakṣasi ? kimevamiti cet, bhavato yadi bhinna evāyaṃ kāyaḥ, tena asyāpacaye tava kimapacīyate ?



pūrvameva ciraṃ svīkṛta iti cedāha-

na svīkaroṣi he mūḍha kāṣṭhaputtalakaṃ śucim|

amedhyaghaṭitaṃ yantraṃ kasmādrakṣasi pūtikam||61||



he mūḍha, mohavijṛmbhitametad bhavataḥ| śuciṃ pavitram| ayaṃ ca aśuciḥ| idamevāha-amedhyeti| pūtikaṃ śatanadharmakam||



syādetat-kimanyasminnasannapi doṣa ucyate ityatrāha-

imaṃ carmapuṭaṃ tāvatsvabuddhayaiva pṛthakkuru|

asthipañjarato māṃsaṃ prajñāśastreṇa mocaya||62||



asthīnyapi pṛthakkṛtvā paśya majjānamantataḥ|

kimatra sāramastīti svayameva vicāraya||63||



carmamayaṃ puṭam| svamativiśeṣeṇa pṛthak kuru svakāyādapasāraya| asthighaṭitapañjarād yantrāt prajñātmakena śastreṇa māṃsakartanena| tadanantaramasthīnyapi khaṇḍaśaḥ pṛthag bhinnāni kṛtvā majjānaṃ paśya avalokaya| yadi antaraṃ kāyaḥ caturmahābhūtikaḥ mātapitraśucikalalasaṃbhūtaḥ duḥkhamayaḥ kṛtaghnaśceti vistareṇa pratipādayiṣyatīti kimatra sāramasti vijñapraśastaṃ nyāyyaṃ vā, ityātmanaiva vicāraya||



evamanviṣya yatnena na dṛṣṭaṃ sāramatra te|

adhunā vada kasmāttvaṃ kāyamadyāpi rakṣasi||64||



evaṃ kathitanayena| sādhūktamiti cet, adhunā vada kasmāt tvamadyāpi sarvaguṇavikalamapi kāyaṃ rakṣasi ? evaṃ vidvānapi||



tathāpi asti kiṃcidatropādeyamiti cedāha-

na khāditavyamaśuci tvayā peyaṃ na śoṇitam|

nāntrāṇi cūṣitavyāni kiṃ kāyena kariṣyasi||65||



yadasti, na tadupayuktamiti saṃkṣepārthaḥ| ataḥ kimanupayoginā kāyena kariṣyasi ? atra āsaṅgo na yukta ityarthaḥ||



anyaprayojanābhāvādidamevocitamutpaśyāmaḥ ityāha-

yuktaṃ gṛdhraśṛgālāderāhārārthaṃ tu rakṣitum|

karmopakaraṇaṃ tvetanmanuṣyāṇāṃ śarīrakam||66||



yasmāt karmaṇi kenacit sahakāribhāvenopayujyate iti rakṣyate||



tathāpi nātrābhiniveśaḥ kārya ityāha-

evaṃ te rakṣataścāpi mṛtyurācchidya nirdayaḥ|

kāyaṃ dāsyati gṛdhrebhyastadā tvaṃ kiṃ kariṣyasi||67||



ācchidyeti balāt| bhavato gṛhītvā niṣkṛpo mṛtyustava kāyaṃ gṛdhrebhyo dāsyati, tadāpi na kaścitpratikāro bhaviṣyati ityabhiprāyaḥ||



syādetat-yadyapi evam, tathāpi bhaktācchādanamātreṇāpi paripālanīya ityatrāha-

na sthāsyatīti bhṛtyāya na vastrādi pradīyate|

kāyo yāsyati khāditvā kasmāttvaṃ kuruṣe vyayam||68||



yadi nāma bhṛtyakarmakaraṇaṃ tathāpi tatrānavasthāyisvabhāve vicakṣaṇo jñātvaiva pravartate, evaṃ prakṛte'pi taddharmiṇi kenābhiprāyeṇa he manaḥ, tvaṃ kuruṣe vyayamupakaraṇopakṣayam ? tat kiṃ sarvathaiva niravakāśo'yaṃ kartavyaḥ ? netyāha-



datvāsmai vetanaṃ tasmātsvārthaṃ kuru mano'dhunā|

na hi vaitanikopāttaṃ sarvaṃ tasmai pradīyate||69||



vetanaṃ karmamūlyam| tāvanmātraṃ datvā asmai gatvaraśarīrāya, karmopakaraṇatvāt, svaprayojanamanuvidheyaṃ he manaḥ| anenaivopārjitaṃ kasmādasmai na dīyate iti cet, na hi yasmāt yatkiṃcit karmakareṇopāttaṃ sarvaṃ tasmai karmakarāya pradīyate iti nyāyo'sti||



tasmādevamupastambhamātraṃ datvā-

kāye naubuddhimādhāya gatyāgamananiśrayāt|

yathākāmaṃgamaṃ kāyaṃ kuru sattvārthasiddhaye||70||



kāye naubuddhiṃ kṛtvā pravṛttinivṛttihetoḥ icchāyattaṃ kāyaṃ kuru sattvārthānuṣṭhānāya niṣpattaye vā| he manaḥ iti prakṛtamabhisaṃbadhyate||



iti kāyapratyavekṣayā tatsvabhāvamupayogaṃ ca vicārya pariniścitakāyaprayojanamupasaṃharannāha-



evaṃ vaśīkṛtasvātmā nityaṃ smitamukho bhavet|

tyajed bhṛkuṭisaṃkocaṃ pūrvābhāṣī jagatsuhṛt||71||



uktanītyā āyattīkṛtaḥ ātmā cittakāyalakṣaṇaḥ| sarvadā prasannavadano bhavet| bhrūlalāṭasaṃkocaṃ ca prasādahānikaraṃ tyajet| pūrvameva asaṃcodita eva pareṇa svāgatādivādaiḥ saṃtoṣaṇaśīlo bhavet| sarvasattvānāmakāraṇabāndhavaśca||



ityapi śikṣā anarthavarjanāya kāryetyāha-

saśabdapātaṃ sahasā na pīṭhādīn vinikṣipet|

nāsphālayetkapāṭaṃ ca syānniḥśabdaruciḥ sadā||72||



sahasā tvaritameva niṣprayojanaṃ hastadaṇḍādinā kapāṭaṃ ca nākoṭayet| saṃkṣepataḥ niḥśabdābhiratirbhavet||



kaḥ evaṃ sati guṇaḥ syādityāha-

bako biḍālaścauraśca niḥśabdo nibhṛtaścaran|

prāpnotyabhimataṃ kāryamevaṃ nityaṃ yatiścaret||73||



ete sarve niḥśabdā anuddhatāśca viharanto vivakṣitamarthaṃ labhante| vratināpi tathaiva samādhānakaṇṭakaparihāreṇa vihartavyam||



ityapi śikṣitavyamityāha-

paracodanadakṣāṇāmanadhīṣṭopakāriṇām|

pratīcchecchirasā vākyaṃ sarvaśiṣyaḥ sadā bhavet||74||



kaukṛtyavinodanāvavādānuśāsanīsamarthānāṃ vinayādikovidānām aprārthitahitaiṣiṇāṃ hitavidhāyakaṃ vacanaṃ mūrdhnā gṛhṇīyāt| na teṣu svacittaṃ dūṣayitavyam, nāpyavamānanā kāryeti bhāvaḥ| sarvasattveṣu gurugauravadhiyā samācaritavyamiti sarvaṃ sarvebhyaḥ śikṣet||



īrṣyāmalaprakṣālanāmāha-

subhāṣiteṣu sarveṣu sādhukāramudīrayet|

puṇyakāriṇamālokya stutibhiḥ saṃpraharṣayet||75||



parakīyaguṇavardhanavacaneṣu tatparitoṣaṇāya sādhu sādhu, bhadrakamidam, iti śabdamadhyāśayenoccārayet| kuśalakarmakāriṇamapi dṛṣṭvā sādhu kṛtam, dhanyo bhavān sukṛtakarmakārī, ityādibhiḥ stutivacanaiḥ protsāhayet||



lapanāśaṅkāṃ nirasyannāha-

parokṣaṃ ca guṇān brūyādanubrūyācca toṣataḥ|

svavarṇe bhāṣyamāṇe ca bhāvayettadguṇajñatām||76||



paraguṇān sadbhūtānapi parokṣaṃ brūyānna samakṣam| anyathā lapanāṃ kaścinmanyeta| pareṇa tu tatsamakṣamanyasya guṇe bhāṣyamāṇe tadanuvādakatayā samakṣamapi brūyāt| anyathā nāsya rūciratreti matvā svacittaṃ pradūṣayet paraḥ| svaguṇe punaḥ kenacid guṇapakṣapātinā prasannena samakṣaṃ parokṣaṃ ca kīrtyamāne cittasyonnatiṃ nivārayaṃstasyaiva guṇābhidhāyakasya guṇānurāgitāṃ manasi kuryāt||



paraguṇāmarṣaṇaṃ vārayannāha-

sarvārambhā hi tuṣṭayarthāḥ sā vittairapi durlabhā|

bhokṣye tuṣṭisukhaṃ tasmātparaśramakṛtairguṇaiḥ||77||



sarveṣāṃ hīnamadhyotkṛṣṭānāṃ sattvānām| sarve vā upakramāḥ duḥkhaparihāreṇa tuṣṭayarthāḥ| sarvārambhapariśrameṇa tuṣṭirevotpādayitavyetyarthaḥ| sā ca tuṣṭirdhanavisargairapi durlabhā, syādvā na veti| iha punarayatnasiddhopasthitā kasmātparihīyata iti matvā bhokṣye anubhaviṣyāmi saṃtoṣasukham anyayatnaniṣpāditairguṇairupanāmitam| na hi priyaputraguṇairakṣamāyuktā| iti bhāvanayā paraguṇaśravaṇāccittakārkaśyamapakuryāt||



atraivopacayamāha-

na cātra me vyayaḥ kaścitparatra ca mahatsukham|

aprītiduḥkhaṃ dveṣaistu mahadduḥkhaṃ paratra ca||78||



naiva asminnarthe pravṛttimato mama ihaloke vā upakṣayaleśo'pi saṃbhavati| upacayaḥ punarvidyata eveti darśayati-paratra mahatsukhaṃ paraguṇābhinandanāt| evamakriyamāṇe punarapacayo dṛśyate, ubhayaloke'pi duḥkhaṃ paraguṇāsahanāt||



tasmāt sarvakalmaṣaparityāgena iyamucitā karmakāritā śiksaṇīyetyāha-

viśvastavinyastapadaṃ vispaṣṭārthaṃ manoramam|

śrutisaukhyaṃ kṛpāmūlaṃ mṛdumandasvaraṃ vadet||79||



sarvāvadyavinirmuktatvādviścastam| ānupūrvyā vyavasthitapadam| asaṃdigdhārtham| manaḥprahlādanakaram| śravaṇāpyāyakam| karuṇārasaniṣyandabhūtaṃ na rāgādinidānam| mṛdusvaramakarkaśavacanam| mandasvaraṃ yāvatā dhvaninā pratipādyasya pratītiḥ syāt, na tato nyūnaṃ nātiriktamudīrayan|



ṛju paśyetsadā sattvāṃścakṣuṣā saṃpibanniva|

etāneva samāśritya buddhatvaṃ me bhaviṣyati||80||



avakramakuṭilaṃ paramaprītirasabharāvanatena cakṣuṣā tṛṣita iva śītalajala paramāhlādakaraṃ saṃpivanniva sattvān vyavalokayan| na raktena na duṣṭena mugdhena| paramopakārakā hyete| kutaḥ ? yasmādetān sattvān samāsādya durlabhalābhaṃ buddhatvaṃ me bhaviṣyati utpatsyate| evaṃ ca viharan adyatve'pi sattvārthasamartho bhavatyeva| yaduktam-



sarvatrācapalo mandamitasnigdhābhibhāṣaṇāt|

āvarjayejjanaṃ bhavyamādeyaścāpi jāyate|| iti|

etadeva ca bodhisattvasya kṛtyaṃ yaduta sattvāvarjanaṃ nāma| yathā dharmasaṃgītisūtre āryāpriyadarśanena bodhisattvena paridīpitam-



tathā tathā bhagavan bodhisattvena pratipattavyaṃ yatsahadarśanena sattvāḥ prasīdeyuḥ| tatkasmāddhetoḥ ? na bhagavan bodhisattvasyānyat karaṇīyamasti anyatra sattvāvarjanāt| sattvaparipāka eveyaṃ bhagavan bodhisattvasya dharmasaṃgītiriti||



evamakriyamāṇe ko doṣa iti cet-

anādeyaṃ tu taṃ lokaḥ paribhūya jināṅkuram|

bhasmacchannaṃ yathā bahniṃ pacyeta narakādiṣu||iti|

tasmāt sattvārādhanameva bodhisattvasya karma upakārikṣetramasādhāraṇaṃ puṇyaprasūtiheturiti||



tatprasaṅgena anyadapi darśayannāha-

sātatyābhiniveśotthaṃ pratipakṣotthameva ca|

guṇopakārikṣetre ca duḥkhite ca mahacchubham||81||



samādānena kriyamāṇam| abhiniveśotthaṃ tīvraprasādajanitam| pratipakṣotthaṃ kleśapratipakṣaśūnyatādibhāvanāprasūtam| guṇakṣetraṃ buddhabodhisattvādi| upakārikṣetraṃ mātāpitādi| duḥkhitā glānādayaḥ| eteṣu svalpamati kṛtamaprameyaśubhaheturupajāyate||



idamapi bodhisattvenābhyasanīyamityāha-

dakṣa utthānasaṃpannaḥ svayaṃkārī sadā bhavet|

nāvakāśaḥ pradātavyaḥ kasyacitsarvakarmasu||82||



dakṣaḥ sarvatra paṭupracāraḥ| utthānasaṃpannaḥ kausīdyāpanayanād vīryasamanvāgataḥ| ata eva svayameva sarvaṃ karaṇīyam, na parāpekṣā kvacidapi karmaṇi kāryā| idameva nāvakāśa ityādinā darśayati||



pāramitābhyāse'narthavivarjanāyānupūrvakāritāmāha-

uttarottarataḥ śreṣṭhā dānapāramitādayaḥ|

netarārthaṃ tyajecchreṣṭhāmanyatrācārasetutaḥ||83||



uparyuparitaḥ| dānācchīlaṃ śreṣṭham, śīlāt kṣāntirityādayaḥ| ato'varapāramitāhetoruttaraṃ na tyajet| tadvirodhena na seveteti bhāvaḥ| kiṃ sarvathā ? netyāha-anyatreti| bodhiattvānāṃ ya ācāraḥ śikṣāsaṃvaralakṣaṇaḥ sa eva kuśalajalarakṣaṇāya setubandho vihitaḥ, tasmādanyatra taṃ vihāya| sa yathā na bhidyate ityarthaḥ||



tasmātsaṃbhāramupāditsunā karuṇāparatantreṇa sarvaṃ karaṇīyamuktamityāha-

evaṃ buddhvā parārtheṣu bhavetsatatamutthitaḥ|

niṣiddhamapyanujñātaṃ kṛpālorarthadarśinaḥ||84||



evamanuttaraṃ jñātvā sattvānāṃ hitasukhavidhānāya nityamārabdhavīryo bhavet| pratiṣiddhārthe pravṛttau kathaṃ na sāpattika iti cet, na| kvacinniṣiddhamapi sattvārthaviśeṣaṃ prajñācakṣuṣā paśyataḥ karaṇīyatayā anujñātaṃ bhagavatā| saniḥsaraṇaṃ ca bhagavataḥ śāsanam| taccāpi na sarvasya, api tu kṛpāloḥ karuṇāprakarṣapravṛttitayā tatparatantrasya parārthaikarasasya svaprayojanavimukhasya| iti prajñākaruṇābhyāmudbhūtaparārthavṛtterupāyakuśalasya pravartamānasya nāpattiḥ| atra ca upāliparipṛcchāyāmāpattyanāpattivibhāgo veditavyaḥ| tathā upāyakauśalyasūtre jyotiṣkamāṇavakādhikāre||



eṣā rakṣātmabhāvasya bhaiṣajyavasanādibhiḥ|

ityetat pratipādayitumāha-

vinipātagatānāthavratasthān saṃvibhajya ca|

bhuñjīta madhyamāṃ mātrāṃ tricīvarabahistyajet||85||



bhaiṣajyavasanādibhirātmabhāvo hi paripālanīyaḥ parārthopayogitvāt| yathoktaṃ prākūtatra dvividhaṃ bhaiṣajyaṃ satatabhaiṣajyaṃ glānapratyayabhaiṣajyaṃ ca| tatra satatabhaiṣajyamodanādi| tadarthaṃ piṇḍāya gocare caratā grāmapraveśe yathoktaśikṣāyāṃ smṛtimādhāya caritavyam| tato labdhāt piṇḍapātāt caturthabhāgavibhaktāt vinipātagatānanāthavratasthān saṃvibhāginaḥ kuryāt| ekaṃ pratyaṅgaṃ vinipātinām| dvitīyamanāthānām| tṛtīyaṃ sabrahmacāriṇāṃ datvā caturthamātmanā paribhuñjīta| sa paribhuñjāno na raktaḥ paribhuṅkte asaktaḥ, agṛddhaḥ, anadhyavasitaḥ, anyatra yāvadevāsya kāyasya sthitaye yāpanāyai| madhyamāṃ mātrām| tathā ca paribhuṅkte yathā nātisaṃlikhito bhavati, nātigurukāyaḥ| tatkasya hetoḥ ? ati saṃlikhito hi kuśalapakṣaparāṅmukho bhavati, atigurukāyo middhāvaṣṭabdho bhavati| tena taṃ piṇḍapātaṃ paribhujya kuśalapakṣābhimukhena bhavitavyam| iti āryaratnameghe'bhihitam| āryaratnarāśāvapi-



paribhuñjatā ca evaṃ manasikāra utpādayitavyaḥ-santi asmin kāye aśītikṛmikulasahasrāṇi, tāni anenaivojasā sukhaṃ viharantu| idānīṃ caiṣāmāmiṣeṇa saṃgrahaṃ kariṣyāmi| bodhiprāptaśca punardharmeṇa saṃgrahaṃ kariṣyāmi| iti vistaraḥ||



punaratraivoktam-

dvayorahaṃ kāśyapa śraddhādeayamanujānāmi| katamayordvayoḥ ? yuktasya muktasya ca| iti||

anayā diśā sarvaparibhogāḥ sattvārthamadhiṣṭhātavyāḥ| anyathā-

ātmatṛṣṇopabhogāttu kliṣṭāpattiḥ prajāyate||iti||

yathoktaṃ candrapradīpasūtre-

te bhojanaṃ svādurasaṃ praṇītaṃ

labdhvā ca bhuñjanti ayuktayogāḥ|

teṣāṃ sa āhāru vadhāya bhoti

yatha hastipotāna bisā adhautakāḥ||

vistareṇa caitacchikṣāsamuccaye draṣṭavyam||



glānabhaiṣajyaṃ tu yāmikaṃ sāptāhikaṃ yāvajjīvikamiti trividham| etacca bhikṣuvinaye pratipāditaṃ tatraivāvadhāryam||



vasanādibhirātmarakṣāmāha-tricīvarabahistyajet| iti| sacedāgatya kaścid bodhisattvaṃ pātracīvaraṃ yāceta, tena atityāgo na kartavyaḥ| kiṃ tu yattadanujñātaṃ bhagavatā-tricīvaraṃ śramaṇakalpaḥ, tato'tiriktaṃ ca yadbhavet, tyaktavyamarthine, nānyathā| uktaṃ ca bodhisattvapratimokṣe-sacetpunaḥ kaścidāgatya pātraṃ vā cīvaraṃ vā yāceta, sacettasyātiriktaṃ bhaved buddhānujñātāttricīvarāt, yathāparityaktaṃ dātavyam| sacetpunastasya ūnaṃ tricīvaraṃ bhavet yanniśritya brahmacaryāvāsaḥ, tanna parityaktavyam| tatkasmāddhetoḥ? avisarjanīyaṃ hi tricīvaramuktaṃ tathāgatena| sacecchāriputra bodhisattvastricīvaraṃ parityajya yācanaguruko bhavet, na tena alpecchatā āsevitā bhavet| iti||



atityāgaṃ niṣedhayan punarātmarakṣāmupadarśayannāha-

saddharmasevakaṃ kāyamitarārthaṃ na pīḍayet|

evameva hi sattvānāmāśāmāśu prapūrayet||86||



satāṃ satpuruṣāṇāṃ bodhisattvānāṃ dharmaḥ| laukikalokottaraparahitasukhavidhānam| tatsevakaṃ kāyam alpārthanimittaṃ na pīḍayet| anyathā mahato'rtharāśerhāniḥ syāt| ata eva pūrvasmin hetupadametat| kutaḥ punarevam ? yasmādanenaiva sukumāropakrameṇa saṃvardhamānaḥ śīghrameva sattvānāṃ hitasukhasaṃpādanasamartho bhavati||



yata evaṃ tasmāt-

tyajenna jīvitaṃ tasmādaśuddhe karuṇāśaye|

tulyāśaye tu tattyājyamitthaṃ na parihīyate||87||



svaśarīraśirodānādi na kartavyamiti niṣiddham| kadā ? aśuddhe mitrāmitretarasarvavyasanijanasādhāraṇapravṛtte kṛpācitte| atyārabdhena hi vīryeṇa svaparahitārthasya bādhā syāt| samapravṛtte punarāśaye svaparātmano'tirikte vā na niṣidhyate| yaduktam-tathā svaparabodhipakṣaśrutādyantarāyakarau tyāgātyāgau na kāryau| adhikasattvārthaśaktestulyaśaktervā bodhisattvasya adhikatulyakuśalāntarāyakarau tyāgātyāgau na kāryāviti siddhaṃ bhavati| idameva ca saṃdhāya bodhisattvaprātimokṣe'bhihitam-yastu khalu punaḥ śāriputra abhiniṣkrāntagṛhāvāso bodhisattvo bodhyaṅgairabhiyuktaḥ, tena kathaṃ dānaṃ dātavyam, kataraṃ dānaṃ dātavyam, kiyadrūpaṃ dānaṃ dātavyam| peyālaṃ| dharmadāyakena bhavitavyam| yaśca śāriputra gṛhī bodhisattvo gaṅgānadīvālikāsamāni buddhakṣetrāṇi saptaratnaparipūrṇāni tathāgatebhyo'rhadbhayaḥ samyaksaṃbuddhebhyo dānaṃ dadyāt, yaśca śāriputra pravrajyāparyāpanno bodhisattvaḥ ekāṃ catuṣpadikāṃ gāthāṃ prakāśayet, ayameva tato bahutaraṃ puṇyaṃ prasavati| na śāriputra tathāgatena pravrajitasya āmiṣadānamanujñātam| peyālaṃ| yasya punaḥ śāriputra pātrāgataḥ pātraparyāpanno lābho bhaveddhārmiko dharmalabdhaḥ, tena sādhāraṇabhājinā bhavitavyaṃ sārdhaṃ sabrahmacāribhiriti||



tatraivāha-yastu khalu punaḥ śāriputra anabhiniṣkrāntagṛhāvāso bodhisattvaḥ, tena dharma āsevitavyaḥ| tatra tenābhiyuktena bhavitavyamiti| anyathā hi ekasattvārthasaṃgrahārthaṃ mahataḥ sattvarāśestasya ca sattvasya bodhisattvāśayaparikarmāntarāyānmahato'rthasya hāniḥ kṛtā syāditi||



anenopāyakauśalena viharan na bodhimārgātparibhraśyate| ayamabhiprāyaḥ-dattaḥ pūrvameva anena ātmabhāvaḥ sarvasattvebhyaḥ | kevalamakālaparibhogātparirakṣaṇīyaḥ| ato na mātsaryasyāvakāśaḥ| nāpi pratijñātārthahāniriti| yaduktam-



bhaiṣajyavṛkṣasya sudarśanasya

mūlādibhogyasya yathaiva bījam|

datvāpi saṃrakṣyamakālabhogāt

saṃbuddhabhaiṣajyatarostathaiva||iti||



sattvāśayarakṣaṇādapyātmā rakṣitavya ityāha-

dharmaṃ nirgaurave svasthe na śiroveṣṭite vadet|

sacchatradaṇḍaśastre ca nāvaguṇṭhitamastake||88||



devamanuṣyapūjito hi bhagavato dharmaḥ| tato'vadhyāyanti devatādayo gauravamakurvato dharmaprakāśanāt| niṣiddhaṃ caitadbhagavatā iti tadājñātikrame sāpattiko bhavet| na vastrādibaddhaśirasi| sahaśabdena triṣvapi saṃbandhaḥ| tathottarīyādinā pihitaśīrṣe| pratyekaṃ svastha iti saṃbandhanīyam| glāne punaranāpattiḥ| upalakṣaṇaṃ caitat| na sthitena suptāya niṣaṇṇāya vā, na niṣaṇṇena suptāya, na cānāsanena niṣaṇṇāya| notpathayāyinā mārgayāyine, nāgragāmine pṛṣṭhagāminā, nāpyalaṃkārayuktāya| ityādayo'pi draṣṭavyā iti||



idamapyanarthavivarjanāya mūlāpattikāraṇamakaraṇīyamityāha-

gambhīrodāramalpeṣu na strīṣu puruṣaṃ vinā|



gambhīro durmedhasāmagādhatvāt| udāraśca prakarṣaparyantatvāt| tādṛśaṃ ca dharmamalpeṣu asaṃskṛtabuddhiṣu hīnādhimuktiṣu vā na vadediti prakṛtena saṃbandhaḥ| na mātṛgrāmasya ekākī rahogato dharmaṃ vadet| vadan sāpattiko bhavati| na doṣaḥ puruṣo yadi syāt||



hīnotkṛṣṭeṣu dharmeṣu samaṃ gauravamācaret||89||



śrāvakayānabhāṣiteṣu vā mahāyānabhāṣiteṣu vā dharmeṣu tulyaṃ cittaprasādādikaṃ kuryāt| anyathā saddharmapratikṣepaḥ syāt||



nodāradharmapātraṃ ca hīne dharme niyojayet|

na cācāraṃ parityajya sūtramantraiḥ pralobhayet||90||



gambhīrodāradharmabhājanaṃ ca sattvaṃ nimittajñairjñātvā na śrāvakayānādidharmeṣvavatārayet| na ca ācāraṃ śikṣāsaṃvarakaraṇīyatāṃ muktvā sūtrāntādipāṭhenaiva tava śuddhirbhaviṣyati iti dharmakāmaṃ prabhāvayet| āha cātra-punaraparo'nartho ratnakūṭe dṛṣṭaḥ-aparipāciteṣu sattveṣu viśvāso bodhisattvaskhalitam| abhājanībhūteṣu udārabuddhadharmaprakāśanā bodhisattvaskhalitam| udārādhimuktikeṣu sattveṣu hīnayānaprakāśanā bodhisattvaskhalitamiti||



āryasarvadharmavaipulyasaṃgrahe sūkṣmo'pyanartha uktaḥ-sūkṣmaṃ hi mañjuśrīḥ saddharmapratikṣepakarmāvaraṇam| yo hi kaścinmañjuśrīḥ tathāgatabhāṣite dharme kasmiṃścit śobhanasaṃjñāṃ karoti, kvacidaśobhanasaṃjñām, sa saddharmaṃ pratikṣipati| tena saddharmapratikṣeptrā tathāgato'bhyākhyāto bhavati, saṃgho'pavādito bhavati, ya evaṃ vadati-idaṃ yuktamidamayuktam| iti vistaraḥ||



āryākāśagarbhasūtre ca mūlāpattiprastāve coktam-punaraparamādikarmiko bodhisattvaḥ keṣāṃcidevaṃ vakṣyati-kiṃ bhoḥ prātimokṣavinayena ? śīlena surakṣitena śīghraṃ tvamanuttarāyāṃ samyaksaṃbodhau cittamutpādayasva| mahāyānaṃ paṭha| yatte kiṃcit kāyavāṅmanobhiḥ kleśapratyayādakuśalaṃ karma samudānītam, tena te śuddhirbhaviṣyatyavipākam, yāvadyathā pūrvoktam| iyamādikarmikasya bodhisattvasya tṛtīyā mūlāpattiriti||



ataḥ idamapi prātimokṣaniṣiddhaṃ nācaraṇīyamityāha-



dantakāṣṭhasya kheṭasya visarjanamapāvṛtam|

neṣṭaṃ jale sthale bhogye mūtrādeścāpi garhitam||91||



kheṭasya śleṣmaṇo visarjanamapāvṛtaṃ na kuryāt| jale sthale bhogye upabhogye mūtrapurīṣāderapi kutsitam| atrāpi devatādyavadhyānādapuṇyaṃ prasavet||



mukhapūraṃ na bhuñjīta saśabdaṃ prasṛtānanam|

pralambapādaṃ nāsīta na bāhū mardayetsamam||92||



mukhaṃ pūritaṃ kṛtvā mahatkavalagrahaṇāt| saśabdaṃ sukasunikādiśabdena| [prasṛtānanaṃ] dūraṃ vidāritamukham| pralambapādaṃ bhūmyādyalagnapādaṃ khaṭvādyārohaṇe sati nāsīta| dvāvapi bāhū samamekasmin kāle na mardayet| kramamardane na doṣaḥ| sati pratyaye||



naikayānyastriyā kuryādyānaṃ śayanamāsanam |



ekayā advitīyayā anyastriyā| gṛhipravrajitayoridamiha sādhāraṇamityanyagrahaṇam| na kuryādyānādi| saṃkṣepeṇa saṃkalayya darśayannāha-



lokāprasādakaṃ sarvaṃ dṛṣṭvā pṛṣṭvā ca varjayet||93||



lokānāṃ yat prasādajanakaṃ na bhavati, tat sarva dṛṣṭvā śāstre vyavahāre vā| pṛṣṭvā vijñān| varjayet| anenaitaddarśitaṃ bhavati-dṛṣṭe'pi yadbādhākaramevaṃvidhaṃ tadvarjayet āpattirbhavatīti| yaduktam-



ratnameghe jinenoktastena saṃkṣepasaṃvaraḥ|

yenāprasādaḥ sattvānāṃ tadyatnena parityajet||iti||

yathāha-katame ca te bodhisattvasamudācārāḥ ? yāvadiha bodhisattvo nāghaḥsthāne viharati, nākāle| nākāle bhāṇī bhavati| nākālajño bhavati| nādeśajño bhavati| yatonidānamasyāntike sattvā aprasādaṃ pratisaṃvedayeyuḥ| sa sarvasattvānurakṣayā ātmanaśca bodhisaṃbhāraparipūraṇārthaṃ samyagīryāpatho bhavati, mṛdubhāṇī mandabhāṇī asaṃsargabahulaḥ pravivekābhimukhaḥ suprasannamukhaḥ iti||



na bodhisattvena avamanyanā kvacidapi kartavyetyāha-

nāṅgulyā kārayetkiṃciddakṣiṇena tu sādaram|

samastenaiva hastena mārgamapyevamādiśet||94||



ekayā aṅgulyā tarjanyādikayā na kiṃcidupadarśayet, api tu samastenaiva samagreṇaiva hastena| dakṣiṇena na vāmena| mārgamapi kathayet| āstāṃ tāvatsagauravaṃ vastu||



lokāprasādanivāraṇāyāha-

na bāhūtkṣepakaṃ kaṃcicchabdayedalpasaṃbhrame|

acchaṭādi tu kartavyamanyathā syādasaṃvṛtaḥ||95||



na bhujamutkṣipya kaṃcidāhvayet, alpaprayojanatāratamye| mahati punaradoṣaḥ| acchaṭādiśabdaṃ tu kuryāt| tadakaraṇe'samāhitacāritāyāmasaṃvṛtaḥ syāt| etāvatā auddhatyaparihāro'pi darśito bhavati||



sa hi śayyāṃ parikalpayannevaṃ parikalpayedityupadarśayannāha-

nāthanirvāṇaśayyāvacchayītepsitayā diśā|

saṃprajānaṃllaghūtthānaḥ prāgavaśyaṃ niyogataḥ||96||



bhagavato mahānirvāṇaśayyāmiva śayyāṃ parikalpayet| abhimatayā diśā śiro vidhāya, dakṣiṇena pārśvena, pādasyopari pādamādhāya, dakṣiṇaṃ bāhumupadhānaṃ kṛtvā, vāmaṃ ca prasārya jaṅghopari niveśya, cīvaraiḥ susaṃvṛtakāyaḥ, smṛtaḥ, saṃprajānānaḥ, utthānasaṃjñī, ālokasaṃjñī, śayitaḥ, nācittakamiddhāvaṣṭabdhaḥ| na ca nidrāsukhamākhādayet, na ca pārśvasukham anyatra yāvadevaiṣāṃ mahābhūtānāṃ sthitaye yāpanāyai iti| laghutthānaḥ śīghramevottiṣṭhet| na tu jṛmbhikāṃ gātramoṭanaṃ kurvannālasyopahitaścireṇa| etebhya eva sarvebhyaḥ pūrvameva||



idamaparamabhisaṃkṣipya kathayannāha-

ācāro bodhisattvānāmaprameya udāhṛtaḥ|

cittaśodhanamācāraṃ niyataṃ tāvadācaret||97||



ācāraḥ śikṣaṇīyam| aprameyaḥ asaṃkhyeyaḥ bodhisattvaprātimokśādiṣu pradarśitaḥ| tatsaṃgraharūpaṃ prathamataḥ cittaśodhanameva ācāramācaret| niyatamavaśyaṃtayā||



sāmānyāpattiśodhanāyāha-

rātriṃdivaṃ ca triskandhaṃ triṣkālaṃ ca pravartayet|

śeṣāpattiśamastena bodhicittajināśrayāt||98||



triṣkṛtvo rātreḥ| triṣkṛtvo divasasya| triskandhaḥ trayāṇāṃ skandhānāṃ pāpadeśanāpuṇyānumodanābodhipariṇāmanānāṃ samāhāraḥ| triskandhaṃ pravartayet| śeṣā mūlāyā anyāḥ| athavā, saṃcitya kṛtā yāḥ pratikṛtāḥ tābhyo'nyāḥ smṛtisaṃpramoṣeṇa asaṃprajānatā vā kṛtāḥ| tāsāṃ praśamaḥ pratikaraṇaṃ tena triskandhaparivartanena bodhicittasya jinānāṃ ca bhagavatāṃ samāśrayaṇācca||



etena vidūṣaṇāsamudācārādayo darśitā bhavanti||

tatra pāpaśodhanaṃ caturdharmakasūtre deśitam-



caturbhirmaitreya dharmaiḥ samanvāgato bodhisattvo mahāsattvaḥ kṛtopacitaṃ pāpamabhibhavati| katamaiścaturbhiḥ ? yaduta vidūṣaṇāsamudācāreṇa, pratipakṣasamudācāreṇa, pratyāpattibalena, āśrayabalena ca| tatra vidūṣaṇāsamudācāraḥ akuśalaṃ karma kṛtvā vipratisārarūpātsavigarhaṇā pāpadeśanā, tadanuṣṭhānaṃ tatsamudācāraḥ| tatra pratipakṣasamudācāraḥ akuśalapratipakṣaḥ kuśalam, tatsamudācāraḥ, kṛtvāpyakuśalaṃ karma kuśale karmaṇyatyantamabhiyogaḥ| tatra pratyāpattibalaṃ saṃvarasamādānādakaraṇasaṃvaralābhaḥ| tatrāśrayabalaṃ buddhadharmasaṃghaśaraṇagamanam, anutsṛṣṭabodhicittatā ca| sa balavatsaṃniśrayeṇa na śakyate pāpenābhibhavitum| ebhirmaitreya caturbhirdharmaiḥ samanvāgato bodhisattvo mahāsattvaḥ kṛtopacitaṃ pāpamabhibhavatīti||



viśeṣatastu bodhisattvāpattīnāṃ gurvīṇāṃ ladhvīnāṃ ca deśanā āryopāliparipṛcchāyāmuktāḥ| tāḥ śikṣāsamuccaye draṣṭavyāḥ||



sarvāpattayo bodhisattvena pañcatriṃśatāṃ buddhānāṃ bhagavatāmantike rātriṃdivamekākinā deśayitavyāḥ| tatreyaṃ deśanā- ahamevaṃnāmā buddhaṃ śaraṇaṃ gacchāmītyārabhya yāvat saṃghaṃ śaraṇaṃ gacchāmi, namaḥ śākyamunaye tathāgatāyārhate samyaksaṃbuddhāya| namo vajrapramardine ityārabhya yāvat upaimi sarvān śaraṇaṃ kṛtāñjaliḥ|



iti vistaramuktvāha-iti hi śāriputra bodhisattvena imān pañcatriṃśato buddhān pramukhān kṛtvā sarvatathāgatānugatairmanasikāraiḥ pāpaviśuddhiḥ kāryā| tasyaivaṃ pāpaviśuddhasya ta eva buddhā bhagavanto mukhānyupadarśayanti| peyālaṃ| na tat śakyaṃ sarvaśrāvakapratyekabuddhanikāyairāpattikaukṛtyasthānaṃ viśodhayituṃ yadbodhisattvasteṣāṃ buddhānāṃ bhagavatāṃ nāmadheyadhāraṇaparikīrtanena rātriṃdivaṃ triskandhakadharmaparyāyapravartanena āpattikaukṛtyānniḥsarati, samādhiṃ ca pratilabhate||



etatsākalyena śikṣāsamuccaye veditavyam||



ukto vidūṣaṇāsamudācāraḥ| pratipakṣasamudācārapratyāpattibale api vistareṇa śikṣāsamuccayādeva draṣṭavye| āryamaitreyavimokṣe tu bodhicittena pāpaviśuddhiruktā| taccoktameva prāk| jināśrayāt pāpaviśuddhau sūkarikāvadānamudāhāryam|



ye buddhaṃ śaraṇaṃ yānti na te gacchanti durgatim|

prahāya mānuṣān kāyān divyān kāyāṃllabhanti te||

evaṃ dharmaṃ saṃghaṃ cādhikṛtya pāṭhaḥ| anenāśrayabalamuktam||



punaraniyamena darśayannāha-

yā avasthāḥ prapadyeta svayaṃ paravaśo'pi vā|

tāsvavasthāsu yāḥ śikṣāḥ śikṣettā eva yatnataḥ||99||



svayamātmanā parāyatto vā sattvārthakriyāyāṃ pravṛttaḥ||

kiṃ punarevamaniyamenābhidhīyata ityāha-

na hi tadvidyate kiṃcidyanna śikṣyaṃ jinātmajaiḥ|

na tadasti na yatpuṇyamevaṃ viharataḥ sataḥ||100||



yasmāt sarvākāraṃ sarvavastutattvamadhigamya sarveṣāṃ hitasukhavidhānārthamudyacchadbhirbuddhasutaiḥ na tadasti kiṃcit, yanna śikṣitavyam| anyathā sarvākāraḥ sarvasattvānāmarthaḥ kartumaśakyaḥ| puṇyasaṃbhāro'pi evaṃ vicarato'paryanta eva syāt||



iyamapi śikṣāpadamudrā avadhārayitavyetyāha-

pāraṃparyeṇa sākṣādvā sattvārtha nānyadācaret|

sattvānāmeva cārthāya sarvaṃ bodhāya nāmayet||101||



antataḥ svayamāhārādikriyayā parapreraṇayā aparāparadūtapreraṇayā vā, sākṣāt svayameva āmiṣadānādinā vā, yat sattvānāṃ hitasukhaheturna bhavati, tanna kuryāt kārayedvā| na caitadeva kevalam| kiṃcit sattvānāmeva saṃsāraduḥkhapatitānāṃ tato niḥsaraṇāya sarvaṃ kuśalamūlamanuttarāyāṃ samyaksaṃbodhau pariṇāmayet||



etāvatā ślokadvayena puṇyavṛddhirupadarśitā bhavati||



yaduktaṃ kalyāṇamitrānutsargāditi [śikṣā. sa. kārikā-6] tadāha-

sadā kalyāṇamitraṃ ca jīvitārthe'pi na tyajet|

bodhisattvavratadharaṃ mahāyānārthakovidam||102||



kalyāṇakarmaṇi abhyudayaniḥśreyasaprāptilakṣaṇe mitramasādhāraṇo bandhuḥ, tat kāyajīvitavipraṇāśabhayabhīto'pi na tyajet| kalyāṇamitrānuśaṃsāśca prajñāpāramitāyāmāryāṣṭasāhasrikāyāṃ [aṣṭa. 30] sadāpraruditaparivartādveditavyāḥ| caturdharmakasūtre'pyuktam- kalyāṇamitraṃ bhikṣavo bodhisattvena mahāsattvena yāvajjīvaṃ na tyaktavyamapi jīvitahetoriti| aparityājyasya kalyāṇamitrasya lakṣaṇamāha-bodhisattvaśikṣāsaṃvare vyavasthitam| mahāyānārthapaṇḍitam| etādṛśaṃ sudurlabham||



kalyāṇamitrasya paryupāsanaparijñānārthamāha-

śrīsaṃbhavavimokṣācca śikṣedyadguruvartanam|



śrīsaṃbhavavimokṣāt āryagaṇḍavyūhaparivartāt kalyāṇamitraparyupāsanaṃ śikṣet jānīyāt| yathoktamāryagaṇḍavyūhe āryaśrīsaṃbhavena-kalyāṇamitrasaṃdhāritāḥ kulaputra bodhisattvā na patanti durgatiṣu| yāvat-saṃcodakāḥ kalyāṇamitrā akaraṇīyānām| saṃnivārakāḥ pramādasthānāt| niṣkāsayitāraḥ saṃsārapurāt| tasmāttarhi kulaputra evaṃmanasikārāpratiprasrabdhena kalyāṇamitrāṇyupasaṃkramitavyāni| pṛthivīsamacittena sarvabhārodvahanāparitasanatayā| vajrasamacittena abhedyāśayatayā| cakravālasamacittena sarvaduḥkhāsaṃpravedhanatayā| lokadāsasamacittena sarvakarmasamādānāvijugupsanatayā| rajoharaṇasamacittena mānābhimānavivarjanatayā| yānasamacittena gurubhāranirvāhanatayā| aśvasamacittena akrudhyanatayā| nausamacittena gamanāgamanāparitasanatayā| suputrasadṛśena kalyāṇamitramukhavīkṣaṇatayā| ātmani ca te kulaputra āturasaṃjñotpādayitavyā kalyāṇamitreṣu ca vaidyasaṃjñā, anuśāsanīṣu bhaiṣajyasaṃjñā, pratipattiṣu vyādhinirghātanasaṃjñā| ātmani ca te kulaputra bhīrusaṃjñotpādayitavyā, kalyāṇamitreṣu śūrasaṃjñā, anuśāsanīṣu praharaṇasaṃjñā, pratipattiṣu śatrunirghātanasaṃjñā||



yaduktaṃ sūtrāṇāṃ ca sadekṣaṇāditi [śikṣā. sa. kā.-6], tadupadarśayitumāha-



etaccānyacca buddhoktaṃ jñeyaṃ sūtrāntavācanāt||103||



etadiha śāstre pratipāditam, anyadyadiha noktam| buddhena bhagavatā bodhisattvānāṃ karaṇīyatayā nirdiṣṭam, tannānāsūtrāntārthaparicayād veditavyam||



etadeva darśayati-

śikṣāḥ sūtreṣu dṛśyante tasmātsūtrāṇi bācayet|

śikṣā bodhisattvānāṃ heyopādeyalakṣaṇāḥ| sūtreṣu mahāyānasūtrānteṣu ratnameghādiṣu|

yata evaṃ tasmāt| idaṃ tu viśeṣanirdeśamāha-



ākāśagarbhasūtre ca mūlāpattīrnirūpayet||104||



āryākāśagarbhasūtre kṣatriyasya mūrdhābhiṣiktasya pañca mūlāpattayo nirdiṣṭāḥ| tathā sāmānyena ekā mūlāpattiḥ | tathā ādikarmikasya bodhisattvasya aṣṭau mūlāpattaya iti| tathā ca tatroktam-pañca kulaputra kṣatriyasya mūrdhābhiṣiktasya mūlāpattayaḥ yābhirmūlāpattibhiḥ kṣatriyo mūrdhābhiṣiktaḥ sarvāṇi pūrvāvaropitāni kuśalamūlāni jhoṣayati| vastupatitaḥ parājitaḥ sarvadevamanuṣyasukhebhyaḥ apāyagāmī bhavati| katamāḥ pañca ? yaḥ kulaputra kṣatriyo mūrdhābhiṣiktaḥ staupikaṃ vastu apaharati sāṃghikaṃ vā cāturdiśasaṃghe niryātitaṃ vā, svayaṃ vā apaharati hārayati vā| iyaṃ prathamā mūlāpattiḥ | evaṃ triyānabhāṣitadharmapratikṣepāt dvitīyā| pravrajitasya śīlavato duḥśīlasya vā kāṣāyāpaharaṇāt, gṛhasthakaraṇāt, kāyaprahārāt, cārake prakṣepāt, jīvitaviyojanādvā tṛtīyā| pañcānantaryeṣvanyatamakaraṇāccaturthī| mithyādṛṣṭeḥ, daśākuśalakarmapathasamādānāt, parasamādāpanādvā pañcamīti||



tathā grāmabhedādikaraṇāt sarveṣāṃ sādhāraṇī caikā| tatraivoktam-



ādikarmikāṇāṃ mahāyānasaṃprasthitānāṃ kulaputrāṇāṃ kuladuhitṛṇāṃ ca aṣṭau mūlāpattayaḥ, yāmirmūlāpattibhiḥ skhalitā ādikarmikā mahāyānasaṃprasthitāḥ sarvāṇi pūrvāropitānītyādi pūrvavat| katamā aṣṭau ? ye sattvāḥ pūrvaduścaritahetunā asmin kliṣṭe pañcakaṣāye loke utpannāḥ, te itvarakuśalamūlāḥ| yāvat, teṣāmidaṃ paramaṃ gambhīraṃ śūnyatāpratisaṃyuktaṃ sūtrāntaṃ yāvadvistareṇāgrataḥ smārayanti prakāśayanti| te hi akṛtaśramā bālapṛthagjanāḥ śṛṇvanta utrasyanti, yāvad vivartayanti anuttarāyāḥ samyaksaṃbodheścittam, śrāvakayāne cittaṃ praṇidadhati| eṣā ādikarmikasya bodhisattvasya mūlāpattiḥ prathamā, yayā mūlāpattyā ityādi pūrvavat| tasmādbodhisattvena parasattvānāṃ parapudgalānāmāśayānuśayaṃ prathamaṃ jñātvā yathāśayānāṃ sattvānāmanupūrveṇa dharmadeśanā kartavyeti| sopāyāyāḥ samyaksaṃbodhervinivartya hīnayāne parasya cittamutpādayato dvitīyā| prātimokṣaśikṣāsaṃvaraṃ vihāya mahāyāne cittotpādamātreṇa tatpaṭhanena cāsya śuddhiprakāśanāt tṛtīyā| śrāvakādiyānasya tatphalasya gopananindāprakāśanāt, mahāyāne sarvaśuddhiprakāśanāt, pareṣāṃ tadvacanakaraṇāccaturthī| kīrtilābhādihetoḥ mahāyānapaṭhanādinā, tathā tatpratyayāt pareṣāṃ kutsānindādibhāṣaṇāt, ātmotkarṣaṇāt, uttaramanuṣyadharmopagamāt pañcamī| pāṭhamātreṇa gambhīradharmādhigamaprakāśanāt, pareṣāṃ tathaiva samādāpanāt ṣaṣṭhī| kṣatriyasya purohitāmātyacaṇḍālairye bhikṣavo daṇḍitā arthadaṇḍena sāṃghikaṃ staupikaṃ vā cāturdiśasāṃghikaṃ vā dravyamapahṛtya tebhya evopanāmayanti| te ca kṣatriyā ubhaye'pi mūlāpattimāpadyante| iyaṃ saptamī| dharmādharmavivādanāpūrvaṃ śikṣāpraṇayanāt, tanmūlācāravipannānāṃ satkārāt, prahāṇikānāmupabhogaparibhogāṇyanyatra pariṇāmanāt ubhaye'pi mūlāpattimāpadyante| iyamaṣṭamī||



āsāṃ ca mūlāpattīnāṃ sukhagrahaṇārthaṃ śāstrakāropadarśitāḥ saṃgrahakārikā ucyante-



ratnatrayasvaharaṇādāpatpārājikā matā|

saddharmasya pratikṣepād dvitīyā muninoditā||



duḥśīlasyāpi vā bhikṣoḥ kāṣāyastainyatāḍanāt|

cārake vā vinikṣepādapapravrājanena ca||



pañcānantaryakaraṇānmithyādṛṣṭigraheṇa ca|

grāmādibhedanādvāpi mūlāpattirjinoditā||



śūnyatāyāśca kathanātsattveṣvakṛtabuddhiṣu|

buddhatvaprasthitānāṃ tu saṃbodhervinivartanāt||



prātimokṣaṃ parityājya mahāyāne niyojanāt|

śiṣyayānaṃ na rāgādiprahāṇāyeti vā grahāt||



pareṣāṃ grahaṇādvāpi punaḥ svaguṇakāśanāt|

parapaṃsanato lābhasatkāraślokahetunā||



gambhīrakṣāntiko'smīti mithyaiva kathanātpunaḥ|

daṇḍāpayedvā śramaṇān dadyādvā śaraṇatrayāt||



gṛhṇīyāddīyamānaṃ vā śamathatyājanātpunaḥ|

pratisaṃlīnabhogaṃ ca svādhyāyiṣu nivedanāt||



mūlā āpattayo hyetā mahānarakahetavaḥ|

āryasyākāśagarbhasya svapne deśyāḥ puraḥsthitaiḥ||



bodhicittaparityāgādyācakāyāpradānataḥ|

tīvramātsaryalobhābhyāṃ krodhādvā sattvatāḍanāt||



prasādyamāno yatnena sattveṣu na titikṣate|

kleśātparānuvṛttyā vā saddharmābhāsavarṇanāt||iti||



tasminneva sūtre samuddharaṇamāsāmuktam||

śikśāsamuccaye'pi bodhisattvānāṃ karaṇīyamupadiṣṭamiti tadapi nirūpaṇīyamityāha-



śikṣāsamuccayo'vaśyaṃ draṣṭavyaśca punaḥ punaḥ|

vistareṇa sadācāro yasmāttatra pradarśitaḥ||105||



śikśāsamuccayo'pi svayamebhireva kṛtaḥ| avaśyaṃ niyamena| draṣṭavyaḥ punaḥ punarasakṛt| abhyasanīya iti bhāvaḥ| kutaḥ ? yasmāt satāṃ bodhisattvānām| ācaraṇamācāra itikartavyatā| tatra śikṣāsamuccaye| vistareṇa prabandhena| pradarśitaḥ vispaṣṭīkṛtya prakāśitaḥ, tasmāt||



yadi tasyābhyāse'śaktiḥ, tadā-

saṃkṣepeṇāthavā tāvatpaśyetsūtrasamuccayam|



nānāsūtraikadeśānāṃ vā samuccayamebhireva kṛtaṃ saṃkṣepeṇa paśyet vyavalokayet granthato'rthato vā| atrāpi pūrvakameva prayojanam|| yadi vā-

āryanāgārjunābaddhaṃ dvitīyaṃ ca prayatnataḥ||106||



āryanāgārjunapādairnibaddhaṃ dvitīyaṃ śikṣāsamuccayaṃ sūtrasamuccayaṃ ca paśyet prayatnataḥ ādarataḥ| yadiha na dṛśyate, tat tatra dṛśyate iti bhāvaḥ||



niyamena śikṣādarśane'pi sākalyena sarveṣāmupayogamāha-

yato nivāryate yatra yadeva ca niyujyate|

tallokacittarakṣārthaṃ śikṣāṃ dṛṣṭvā samācaret||107||



yato heyādakaraṇīyānnivāryate, na karaṇīyametaditi pratiṣidhyate| yatra śikśāsamuccaye sūtrasamuccaye vā| yadeva karma kartavyatayā niyujyate vidhīyate, tat prasiddhaṃ vihitaṃ vā| lokānāṃ cittamāśayaḥ tasya rakṣārtham, tadyathā vikopitaṃ na syāt| śikṣāṃ dṛṣṭvā śikṣāsamuccayādiṣu| pratipādaṃ samācaret, yatra yadyathā yujyate, tatra tathā vyavaharet| anyathā arthasaṃmūḍhavyavahārasya āpattikaśmalatā syāt||



etāvatā ātmabhāvasya śuddhirākhyātā| yadāha-

ātmabhāvasya kā śuddhiḥ pāpakleśaviśodhanam|

saṃbuddhoktyanusāreṇa yatnābhāve tvapāyagaḥ||iti||

yaduktam-sadā smṛtisaṃprajanyacāriṇā bhavitavyamiti, tataḥ smṛteḥ svanāmnaiva svarūpaṃ pratītam| saṃprajanyasya tu na jñāyate kīdṛśamiti, tatsvarūpapratipattaye prāha-



etadeva samāsena saṃprajanyasya lakṣaṇam|

yatkāyacittāvasthāyāḥ pratyavekṣā muhurmuhuḥ||108||



yatkāyāvasthāyāḥ cittāvasthāyāśca sarveryāpatheṣu pratyavekṣā nirūpaṇaṃ sarvavāraṃ yathā pratipāditaṃ prāk||



sarvametaduktaśikṣākauśalaṃ karmaṇā niṣpādayitavyaṃ na vacanamātreṇeti niyamayitumāha-

kāyenaiva paṭhiṣyāmi vākpāṭhena tu kiṃ bhavet|

cikitsāpāṭhamātreṇa rogiṇaḥ kiṃ bhaviṣyati||109||



manaḥpūrvaṃgamatvāt kāyavyāpārasya, so'pyanenaiva pratipāditaḥ| pratipattyā sarvaṃ saṃpādayiṣyāmi, na tu śabdamātraghoṣaṇayā niṣphalatvāditi bodhisattvena yatitavyam| kathamiva ? vaidyakaśāstrādhyayanamātreṇa tatkriyāmakurvato vyādhigrastasya kiṃ phalaṃ niṣpatsyate ? tāvanmātreṇa rogasya tasyāvinivṛtteḥ| na kiṃciditi bhāvaḥ| tasmāt sarvametat kriyānuṣṭhānena niṣpādayitavyamiti||



iti prajñākaramativiracitāyāṃ bodhicaryāvatārapañjikāyāṃ

saṃprajanyarakṣaṇaṃ nāma pañcamaḥ paricchedaḥ||
